A/N: A good friend/brother of mine, loves Attack of the Graveyard Ghouls and so do I. But I also based this story off of an Are You Afraid of the Dark episode called The Tale of Old Man Corcoran that I was sorely let down by because it had a great plot idea but left too many plot holes to fully create a masterpiece. So here I am blending it together with Graveyard Ghouls as a sequel. Enjoy!
"My name is David Michael Levy. But I like being called Davey. It's kind of a mix of my first and last name while being a nickname for David. Cool huh? I'm twelve, of course. I have my dad's first and last name but I don't have his middle name - I don't want to be called junior.
These days, I only live with my mom because I lost my dad when I was five to cancer. He loved all things paranormal and so do I, and that's why I'm so glad we moved here to Highgrave, Indiana from Indianapolis a few weeks ago. My mom's so cool! She told me she likes that I want to study ghosts! In fact she told me all about an incident that happened right here in town in Fall 1998 with some kid named Spencer -"
"That's quite enough, Mr. Levy." interrupted Mrs. Collins-White.
"Did I do something wrong?" asked Davey, sounding puzzled.
"The assignment was telling us about you," she explained, sounding disappointed. "Not made up legends that clearly didn't really happen."
"But it did actually happen!" insisted Davey, much to the amusement of his classmates. "Spencer and his best friend got possessed!"
His classmates began to laugh and laugh, much to the annoyance of Davey whose temper began to flare.
"Class!" exclaimed Mrs. Collins-White, her features tightened. "This is not a joking matter."
"This assignment is a joking matter." muttered Davey to himself as he slunk back into his seat.
A few of Davey's classmates heard his snarky remark. And much to Davey's dismay - so did Mrs. Collins-White.
"David Levy." she said in a stern tone, her wrinkled face tightening, her blue eyes full of annoyance and anger. "Meet me after class."
Davey sighed and ran his fingers through his curly brown hair in frustration. He then buried his face in arms on the desk.
"Great going, Davey." he whispered to no one in particular, as his classmates remarked with faint "Oooohs" and "Davey's in big trouble now.".
Davey felt his anger growing throughout his body. He just couldn't fathom why Mrs. Collins-White wouldn't want him talking about the Spencer Kassimir/Audra Rusinas incident. Why that in a town known for its distinctive looming graveyard, he couldn't talk of any paranormal activity? And of course, being a laughingstock wasn't helping either.
Once class for the day concluded, Davey tried to sneak out between two other larger classmates.
"Mr. Levy, please come here," called Mrs. Collins-White. "I wish to speak with you immediately.
"Of all the times of being tall." groaned Davey in thought as slunk into a chair next to Mrs. Collins-White's desk.
He expected the worst. He fully expected for the elderly teacher chew him out like most other teachers have done for Davey's snark. But the teacher, patted his hand and gazed at him with a sympathetic expression.
"You can relax, Davey." she soothed. "I'm not mad."
"Thanks Mrs. C-W," replied Davey. "I'm sorry for what I said."
"Believe me, I understand how hard it is to be a new kid in a new town, and new school," she laughed. "It's okay, you just gotta get used to our old spooky town."
Davey suddenly remembered his annoyance. "Why can't I talk about the Spencer-Audra Incident?"
Mrs. Collins-White looked at Davey now with a serious expression, and palmed his hand. "Davey, it's a rule that no one is allowed to talk about Highgrave Cemetery, especially that incident."
"Why?" asked Davey, shrugging. "It's a cool cemetery! I've never seen a cemetery sit on a huge hill and loom over us like it does!"
Mrs. Collins-White sighed and looked around. Then she turned back to Davey. "It's because what happened to Spencer and Audra really happened. Their bodies got taken, and the town suffered for it." she explained quietly.
"The town suffered?" Davey quizzed, with a raised eyebrow. "And didn't Spencer and Audra get their bodies back?"
"They did - but it was still quite the chaotic situation and temporary mix up," shuddered the elderly teacher. "I saw it happen and what those two possessed kids did to our town. In fact we call the ghosts that caused that trouble, The Graveyard Ghouls."
Davey tried to contain his excitement as his brown eyes flickered with wonder - the paranormal incident DID happen. And actual ghosts, let alone ghouls just might exist in this old town!
"We don't talk about the Graveyard Ghouls incident, because we don't want it to ever happen again," Mrs. Collins-White told Davey with a stern look. "We don't want anymore kids getting possessed like Spencer and Audra did, even though the ghouls that took their bodies are long gone."
"Woah, that's freaky," remarked Davey, causing a slight snicker from his teacher. "Did the evil ghouls ever attack again?"
"Not since 1998 after Spencer and Audra somehow defeated the ghouls," replied Mrs. Collins-White now staring out the window to the looming graveyard in the distance. She then turned to Davey and grew stern. "And we must keep it that way. Promise me, you won't talk about the graveyard or ever go there. Bad things happen when those spirits are disturbed."
Davey tucked one hand in his pocket and held one hand up. "I promise that I won't, Mrs. C-W.". he solemnly vowed. But as the teacher smiled, she didn't know that Davey's pocketed tan hand, had fingers crossed.
After a polite, "Off to lunch, Mr. Levy." from Mrs. Collins-White, Davey turned and headed towards the door to meet his friends for lunch. Oh his head was buzzing with what his sixth grade teacher just told him. Actual paranormal activity happens! And he could probably meet an actual ghost! He could make his father proud and make first contact with an actual ghost!
The cafeteria was large and full of rounded tables with six chairs each for students to sit at. Davey collected his food on his lunch tray from the cafeteria worker and walked to a table where two of his friends, both with brown skin and neatly cut black hair were sitting, and chatting with each other.
"Davey!" called one friend, who's name was Jack. "I thought you were gonna have to eat lunch in the classroom with The C-W."
"He probably would've liked that." joked his other friend.
"Kenny, we all know you're the one with the crush on her," shot Davey, with a chuckle. "We all see how you bat your eyes at C-W when she gives you an A."
That prompted laughter from the three boys, until a teacher on duty in the cafeteria told them to be quiet. The boys had befriended Davey soon after he came to town. Davey is the taller of the three, while Jack is slightly short with Kenny being the shortest of the bunch. Jack had an uptown fade of a haircut, while Kenny's was more buzz cut.
"But seriously, she talked to me about the cemetery!" whispered Davey so only his two friends could hear him. "She told me what my mom said was real!"
Jack and Kenny looked at each other and laughed.
"Uh-huh," laughed Jack. "Yeah - two possessed kids nearly destroyed the town in the 90's because of the Graveyard Ghouls."
"You think it was because Michael Jordan was leaving the Bulls?" added Kenny sarcastically, causing a snort of laughter from Jack.
"Well why would The C-W lie?" asked Davey in annoyance. "She seems cool when she's not mad."
"To make you feel better, probably." answered Jack, taking a bite of pizza.
"Or because she wants to warn me about the graveyard, for real," retorted Davey as he then sipped milk. "Besides, she's old enough to be my grandmother. She had to be there AND see Spencer and Audra destroying everything."
"I don't know man," sighed Kenny. "I mean The Graveyard Ghouls is just a myth. My dad told me that. It can be real."
Davey sighed and took a bite of his pizza next. Soon thoughts began to race through his mind. "My mom and C-W can't be lying, could they? Were they trying to spark my interest? Even though the Graveyard Ghouls died again, surely there has to be more ghosts there, right?"
"Okay, I'll prove that there are ghouls. And that ghosts still exist in this town!" declared Davey suddenly. "I got my dad's old recording stuff. I'll have a ghost talk to me tonight!"
"Well good luck with that." laughed Jack, as he shook his head.
"For real," added Kenny. "And we'll be here to hear all about how you got caught."
"You guys aren't gonna come with me?" asked Davey with a slight smirk.
"Bro, have you seen horror movies?" asked Jack with a laugh.
"You see, even if the ghouls are real - stuff doesn't pan out well for people like us in those situations." laughed Kenny.
"Oh that's just bad writing!" chuckled Davey, trying to remain serious. "I'll come back and you'll see that ghosts exist here and that they weren't lying."
"Well good luck with that," shrugged Kenny. "Can I have your X-Box if you don't come back?"
"Whatever man," snorted Davey as he continued to eat his lunch. "I'll show you."
If only Davey listened to his teacher's warnings. He wouldn't have been in store for an awful surprise as the late summer days go on.
A/N: I kinda based Davey and his two friends off of the relationship I had with two friends growing up. So that was nice to write. I hope you enjoy this chapter! There more to come!
