Walter, the employee, emerges from the backroom, cradling the camera in his hands. "I've got some news for you—both good and bad. The good news is that your camera can definitely be repaired. The bad news? It's going to take some time and cost a pretty penny," he explains.
Carlos, a hint of relief in his voice, asks, "That's great to hear! But how much will it set me back?"
"I'll need to assess the damage and run some numbers. I'll keep you posted once the repairs are done," Walter replies.
"How long will it take to get my camera back?" Carlos inquires, his brow furrowing with concern.
"It'll take a bit. Swing by in about two hours. By the way, are you locals?" Walter asks.
"No, we're from Los Angeles, just here for a fun day trip. But with my camera breaking, it's not feeling so fun anymore," Carlos sighs, disappointment creeping into his voice.
"Why not take a break and explore a bit? You might stumble upon a cool gadget at the mall that could lift your spirits," Walter suggests.
"Alright, I'll give that a shot. Just promise me you'll handle my camera with care. It was a gift from my dad, and it means the world to me. I've barely had it for a year, and now it's almost ruined," Carlos pleads.
"On my honor as a former Boy Scout, I assure you your camera will be in good hands," Walter vows.
"You were a Boy Scout?" Andy interjects, curiosity piqued.
"Yep, all through my school years," Walter confirms.
"I was a Boy Scout too! I quit before middle school, though. I earned a ton of badges, but I didn't really make any friends," Logan reminisces.
"I have a special surprise in mind for us to bide our time while we wait for your camera to be fixed, Carlos," Mr. Mark reveals with a mischievous smile. "But I'll keep it a secret until we get there."
"I can't seem to shake off this gloom until I have my camera back," Carlos admits with a heavy heart.
"Don't worry, the place we're headed to will definitely put a smile back on your face," Mr. Mark reassures him before turning to Lucas. "And you, young man, will not be allowed to join in the excitement when we arrive."
"Yes sir," Lucas grumbles.
As the group chats, Logan can't help but bring up Carlos's recent altercation with Lucas. "Is your face still bothering you from Lucas's roughhousing earlier?" he inquires.
Carlos nods. "It stings a bit, but I'll manage."
"You know, taking some pain medication might help with the discomfort," suggests Logan.
"I said I'm fine," Carlos snaps before storming out of the store.
Logan is left shocked by Carlos's outburst. "That was unexpected," he remarks.
"That's not like him at all. We might have a problem on our hands," James observes.
Kendall concurs, "This could be trouble."
