They all enter the Bay Aquarium and go to all the exhibits which are the White Sturgeon, Bay Ray, Jellyfish, River Otter, Sea Star, California Sheephead, Sevengil Shark, and Eastern Pacific Red Octopus. Also the touch pools, the Bay Lab which houses several land dwelling animals including chinchillas, tortoises, and frogs can be found in this exhibit. These animals specially selected to share messages of how their habits and habitats are affected by climate change. They explore the Near Shore Tunnel and the Sharks of Alcatraz Tunnel. Then they enter the gift shop. Katie, Andy and Steven pick out stuffed animals. The older kids accept for Lucas but keychains.
"What stuffed animals did you pick out?" Logan asks, Katie, Andy and Steven.
"I got a cute baby penguin. Andy got a tie dye tortoise and Steven got an otter." Katie says.
"Great choices." Katie says.
"I really enjoyed the sea stars. They're beautiful fish." Hannah says.
"They're not fish." Steven says.
"Yeah they are. The other name for them is star fish." Hannah says.
"Not a fish." Steven says.
"He's right. They're not fish." Andy says.
"Who are you now? Jacques Cousteau?" Hannah says with an attitude.
Sighs. "No I just know this fact: Sea stars, sometimes called star fish, are not really fish. They're invertebrates that come in thousands of shapes and colors, and are found in oceans around the world. For the last several years, thousands of various sea star species along the California coast have died due to an unidentified disease called seastar wasting syndrome. Scientists are still working to identify the causes of the disease, but meanwhile the massive die-offs could affect the delicate balance of biosystems along the coast." Andy says.
"Ok well so what? I made a mistake." Hannah says rolling her eyes.
"You're really pushing your luck for someone who assured Dad you'd keep your cool and treat me and Steven with respect. Just so you know, he's right behind you and might just take that keychain back," Andy remarks with a teasing grin.
Hannah spins around, her smile faltering as she faces their dad. "It was just a mistake, Dad. I didn't mean to be disrespectful to him or Steven," she explains.
He shakes his head, exhaling deeply. "Given your track record with your brothers, I find it hard to believe that was just an accident. You snapped at Andy because he corrected your misunderstanding about sea stars. Remember when I told you that you have three chances before facing consequences? Well, that was strike two. My patience is wearing thin. Let me be clear: stop being rude to your brothers. Andy was generous enough to share the right information about sea stars, and instead of showing gratitude, you chose to be dismissive. Until you can demonstrate respect, I'm taking your phone and that keychain. Your little social media escapade is over. If you earn another strike, you'll lose phone privileges for two months and won't be allowed on social media for the rest of the year. Do you understand me?" His voice is firm and commanding.
"Yes, sir," Hannah replies, hesitantly surrendering her phone and keychain.
"You better not screw up again, Hannah," Andy warns as they all step out of the building.
"You get to decide what happens next, Steven," Kendall suggests.
"Carousel," Steven replies, pointing enthusiastically.
"Oh, the San Francisco carousel looks like a blast!" Logan exclaims.
"It seems dull and meant for toddlers," Audrey retorts.
"It's for everyone, Audrey. If you don't want to ride, that's your choice," Ms. Knight interjects calmly.
"Why did Steven pick such a silly baby ride? Is his brain the size of a walnut?" Audrey scoffs.
"Not as small as yours might be," Andy shoots back.
"What did you just say?!" Audrey snaps, eyes blazing.
"Maybe your hearing is as limited as your compassion, because you're being really rude right now," Andy replies coolly.
Audrey steps closer, ready to confront him.
"Mark, I don't want to tell you how to parent, but if you don't rein in your daughter right now, I will raise my voice, and she'll be humiliated. Get her away from my son this instant," Hannah, Andy, and Steven's father, asserts firmly.
"Audrey, cut this out right now," Mr. Mark commands.
"Why should I?" Audrey replies defiantly.
"Because I'm your father, and I said so! Now do as I say!" Mr. Mark insists.
"Whatever," Audrey huffs, rolling her eyes as she turns away from Andy.
Mr. Mark's eyes spark with fiery determination as he confronts Audrey's misbehavior. "If you choose to act like a brat, then a brat you shall be treated as," he declares, reaching out for her phone with a firm hand. "For the remainder of our time on this pier, you will sit out of any activities we partake in. Consider yourself in the same boat as your brother, and expect consequences when we return home."
Audrey's protests ring out, echoing against the backdrop of the bustling pier. "That's not fair, Dad! I haven't done anything wrong!" she cries.
But Mr. Mark stands his ground, unwavering in his decision. "You have indeed, and now is the time to hand over your phone," he insists.
With a dramatic groan that catches the attention of a few passersby, Audrey relents. "Fine," she huffs, begrudgingly surrendering her phone to her father. "You're the worst, Dad."
Mr. Mark, undeterred by her theatrics, tries to maintain control. "Your immaturity is showing, Audrey. And please, lower your voice," he urges in a quiet, yet firm tone.
Sensing the tension, Ms. Knight swiftly steps in to diffuse the situation. "Let's head to the carousel before the line grows too long," she suggests, prompting the family to move forward toward the whimsical ride.
