Chapter 10
Here we go! It's time for the ultimate battle Issei will face, and the last Champion who stands in his way is Steven, the Master of Steel Pokemon.
"At last. My final opponent is here." Issei said to himself as he looked at the team that he had chosen for this battle today since it was very important to him. His team knew it as well, which is why they were excited as well to face the final challenger that stood in their master's way of becoming Champion of his region.
The battles with Sidney, Glacia, Phoebe, and Drake were challenging, but Issei was able to pull through them all, which left his final challenge to become a Champion of his league.
"Wallace and Steven are two of the eight strongest trainers in the world, but now I will face Steven and defeat him to become the champion of my future league," Issei said while placing his team on his belt, a team that was special to him since it was his team that he gained in Sinnoh, Kalos, and Unova, the first three leagues he entered and won against the second strongest Trainer in the world, Cynthia, the strongest Trainer, Leon, and then Alder.
Issei headed out of his room and headed to the arena where he would face Steven until he saw a head of blond hair come from the corner with a certain coordinator who was smiling at him.
"Ursula? What are you doing here?" Issei asked as he hugged Ursula, who smiled and hugged him back before the girl smiled and replied.
"Cynthia thought I should be here and support you from the stands as you face the final champion," Ursula explained before she asked with concern. "You okay and ready?"
Issei smiled as he nodded in response. "Yeah. We're ready."
Ursula smiled as she then kissed Issei's lips before letting him go to see Cynthia pouting since she wanted affection, which Issei obliged as he kissed her lips, making Cynthia moan in delight as she wrapped her arms around his neck and began to invade his mouth to challenge him but was stopped with Issei gently biting her tongue and separating from the thirsty Champion of Sinnoh.
"Behave Cynthia."
"Ah, boo," Cynthia said with another pout which made the two wonder how a woman older than them can be mature but so childish at times?
Issei chuckled at Cynthia's playful pout, gently ruffling her hair before turning to head toward the arena. His heart raced with a mixture of anticipation and determination, knowing that this battle would be the ultimate test of his skills and the bond he shared with his Pokémon.
As he stepped into the grand arena, the roar of the crowd filled his ears. The stadium was packed, and the atmosphere was electric. In the center of the battlefield stood Steven Stone, the stoic and composed Champion of the Hoenn region, known for his mastery over Steel-type Pokémon.
Steven met Issei's gaze with a calm smile. "I've been looking forward to this battle, Issei. Your journey has been remarkable, and I can see why Cynthia holds you in such high regard. But today, you face me, and I won't go easy on you."
Issei grinned, feeling a surge of confidence. "I wouldn't have it any other way, Steven. My team and I have come a long way for this moment, and we're not backing down."
The referee raised his hand, signaling the start of the battle. "This is the final match of the Champion League! The challenger, Issei Hyoudou, versus the reigning Hoenn League Champion, Steven Stone! Each Trainer will use six Pokémon! When the first three Pokémon on one side are defeated, we will have a small break to replace the field. Let the battle begin!"
The arena appeared as a grass field, which both trainers didn't mind as they called out their first Pokémon.
"Skarmory! Let's go!" Steven said as the armored bird appeared, which Issei was surprised by before he pulled out his first one.
"Let's go, Sherif!" Issei said as he summoned a Magnezone, which surprised Steven and others before Ursula asked Cynthia.
"Why would Issei call on a Magnezone if Skarmory is a Steel type alone?" Ursula asked before Cynthia replied.
"You'll have to wait and see," Cynthia said before the battle began.
The air was thick with anticipation as Issei and Steven locked eyes across the battlefield. The crowd's energy surged, fueling the intense atmosphere. Magnezone hovered slightly above the ground, its magnets crackling with electricity, while Skarmory spread its metallic wings, glinting under the stadium lights.
Steven analyzed Issei's choice. A Magnezone was an interesting first pick, especially against his Skarmory. "I see you've brought a powerful ally from Sinnoh. This will be an intriguing battle."
Issei smirked, "Sherif and I have been through a lot together. We're ready for anything."
The referee's flag sliced through the air. "Begin!"
"Skarmory, start with Spikes!" Steven commanded.
Skarmory took off, scattering sharp, pointed spikes across Issei's side of the battlefield. The metallic clinks echoed as they embedded into the ground, creating a treacherous terrain for Issei's future Pokémon.
"Annoying but manageable. Sherif, use Thunderbolt!" Issei responded without hesitation.
Magnezone's magnets whirred to life, generating a powerful bolt of lightning that shot across the battlefield toward Skarmory. The attack connected, sending a surge of electricity through the Steel-type bird. Skarmory shrieked as the super-effective attack forced it to the ground, its wings trembling from the electrical onslaught.
Steven remained calm. "Skarmory, shake it off and use Steel Wing!"
Skarmory rose again, albeit with some difficulty, and its wings glowed a bright silver as it swooped down toward Magnezone, aiming to strike with full force.
"Gravity, now!" Issei ordered.
Magnezone's central eye glowed as it focused its energy. Suddenly, a heavy force seemed to press down on the battlefield. The once freely floating Skarmory faltered as the effects of Gravity took hold, forcing it to the ground. The audience gasped in surprise.
"That's why. Issei wanted to prevent Skarmory from dealing too many area moves since Skarmory is a good Steel-type Pokémon, but when facing a powerful one like Sherif, the bird's wings will be clipped." Cynthia said while Steven's eyes narrowed slightly, impressed.
"You've trained your Magnezone well, Issei. But this battle is far from over."
Issei smirked as he decided to draw first blood. "Sheriff, Lock on and then Zap Cannon!"
Magnezone charged up a brilliant beam of light between its magnets as his eyes became targets until he was locked on his target, firing it straight at Skarmory, who was struggling to stand up. The beam hit Skarmory directly, and with a loud, electrifying crash, Skarmory was sent spiraling to the ground, fainting from the impact.
"Skarmory is unable to battle!" The referee announced, raising his flag towards Issei, who smiled at this and congratulated his partner until Steven returned his Skarmory and summoned his next one.
"Let's go, Aggron!" The iron giant roared as he appeared on the battlefield, which made Issei concerned since he was ready for
The hulking Steel/Rock-type Pokémon roared, its presence dominating the battlefield. Wasting no time, Steven immediately called the first move. "Aggron, use Dragon Tail!"
Aggron's tail glowed with fierce draconic energy, and with a single, swift motion, it struck Magnezone with overwhelming force. The impact was so intense that it sent Magnezone flying back into its Poké Ball, forcibly triggering a switch in Issei's lineup.
The next Poké Ball on Issei's belt automatically activated, releasing Roserade onto the battlefield. "Rose, you're up!" Issei called, though the sudden appearance of his Grass/Poison-type against such a formidable opponent was far from ideal.
Steven's eyes gleamed as he saw the opportunity. "Aggron, use Mean Look!"
Aggron's eyes glowed with sinister energy, locking Roserade in place and preventing her from switching out. Rose glanced nervously at Issei, who immediately realized what Steven was planning.
"Now, Aggron, Flamethrower!" Steven commanded.
Aggron unleashed a torrent of flames from its mouth, engulfing Roserade in a searing inferno. Rose cried out in pain as the flames licked at her, leaving her scorched and battered.
"Rose, hang in there!" Issei shouted, his voice filled with concern. But the assault was far from over.
"Aggron, follow up with Steel Fist!" Steven ordered with precision.
Aggron's fists became smooth as metallic energy covered its left arm as it lunged forward, delivering a brutal punch to Roserade. The impact caused Roserade to flinch, her body trembling from the pain coursing through her. Before she could recover, Aggron blasted her with another Flamethrower, sending Roserade crashing into the arena wall. The impact was so severe that it seemed the battle was almost over.
"N-No way. Is Rose really?" Ursula asked while Cynthia narrowed her eyes and asked herself.
'Why is Issei holding back his Pokemon's strength?' Cynthia asked since she knew that Roserade could defeat Aggron with ease. Still, for some reason, Issei isn't using Roserade's special gift that the Legendary Justice Pokemon gave her in Sinnoh.
The referee began to raise his hand to call the match, "Roserade is—"
"ROSE!" Roserade's voice rang out, weak but determined, as she slowly pushed herself off the ground. The crowd gasped in disbelief as they witnessed the battered Pokémon stand once more, her resolve unbroken.
Aggron, sensing her defiance, taunted her with a 'come hither' gesture, challenging her to continue.
Issei locked eyes with Rose, his heart heavy with concern.
'Do you want to switch out, Rose?' he mentally asked, prepared to protect his beloved partner.
Rose shook her head firmly, a fierce determination burning in her eyes. Issei knew that Rose was stubborn like him, but Issei didn't want to win with a cheap move until Cynthia looked his way, which made Issei meet her eyes as she nodded his way.
'Show them how strong your team really is, Issei Hyoudou. I was hoping you could show me the same person who faced so many Legendaries, went back in the past and helped the Ultra Beasts. Use her Battle Aura and bring out the Justice Pokemon's apprentice, the Hero Bloom.' Cynthia said, which made Issei sigh before looking at Rose, who was shocked to see him nod to use that tactic before Rose smiled as she then began her comeback.
Rose began to generate an Energy Ball, but instead of attacking with it, she did something unexpected. With a resolute expression, she consumed the Energy Ball, swallowing it whole. The entire stadium watched in stunned silence as Roserade's body began to glow with radiant energy.
The crowd erupted in shock, and even Aggron and Steven were taken aback by the sudden transformation.
The Energy Ball she absorbed created a brilliant flash of light, and when the light subsided, Roserade stood in her Heroic Bloom form. Her petals gleam with a heroic blue hue, and her flaming fists blaze with justice.
The crowd gasps in awe at the sight of Roserade's transformation. Aggron, taken aback by the sudden change, watches as Roserade's new form radiates a powerful aura, ready to unleash her newly granted abilities. The battlefield is charged with renewed energy as Roserade, now a symbol of heroic strength and justice, prepares for the next phase of the intense battle.
"You ready, Rose?" Issei asked before Rose smiled as she changed in at Aggron and began to use Sludge Bomb at Aggron, which didn't harm the Steel-type Pokémon until Rose smiled as she fired a flame-infused punch at the sludge that was on the ground, which caused an explosion, making Aggron roar in pain.
This snapped Steven out of his trance and countered. "Aggron! Use Iron Head!"
Aggron roared as he charged at Roserade, who was ready by planting her feet into the ground and catching the massive giant before pulling back her left hand and generating a massive Hidden Power into her flaming fist, causing it to grow even hotter.
Steven's eyes widened at this before shouting at Aggron.
"Aggron! Use Flash Cannon!"
"Too late! Rose, use Hidden Power!"
The two Pokémon roared as Roserade punched Aggron just as he fired the Flash Cannon, causing the two to be covered in an explosion until the smoke cleared with the two collapsed on the ground.
"This match is a draw due to both Aggron and Roserade being unable to battle!" The referee called while the audience cheered for them both.
"Woah! What a turn of events! It looked as though Aggron was about to win, but a transformation was able to help Roserade win!" The commentator said that as they both returned their Pokémon, Issei heard someone speak through the conversation that he had with someone in the audience.
'There is no shame in using your Pokémon's talents or gifts like Rose's gift that she was given from the Justice Pokémon.' Cynthia said, which made Issei's left-hand twitch since he was able to learn so much more about powers in this world that can truly make a Pokemon seem invincible, like Urshifu's fighting styles, learning how to use Aura from his sensei's in Kalos, meeting legendary Pokémon that didn't just gift him when he earned their respect but also his Pokémon as well.
'I know, but I was afraid that if I did use the talents that my Pokémon were given, then they wouldn't think I actually have any real skills in being a champion or caring for my Pokémon.' Issei said before Cynthia replied.
'I understand your fears and doubts more than the other Champions since I have the same power as well due to my connection with the Dragons. Why do you think I'm known as the Dragon Queen?' Cynthia replied as Issei summoned his Volcarona and Steven summoned his next one, Empoleon.
The referee's flag sliced through the air. "Begin!"
"Empoleon, use Stealth Rock!" Steven commanded before Empoleon stomped the ground, summoning sharp rocks that floated ominously around Issei's side of the field, waiting to inflict damage on any Pokémon that entered.
This didn't faze Issei since he expected this to go with Spikes and had a Pokémon on his team to deal with them, but for now, he would focus on the battle.
"Volcana, Quiver Dance!"
Volcarona began to dance in the air, its wings shimmering with radiant light as its speed, special attack, and special defense increased.
Steven knew he had to act quickly before Volcarona unleashed its signature move. "Empoleon, Hydro Pump!"
Empoleon launched a powerful jet of water at Volcarona with incredible force.
"Volcana, dodge and use Fiery Dance!" Issei countered as Volcarona deftly avoided the Hydro Pump and spun into a graceful fiery dance, launching spirals of flame at Empoleon.
The flames struck Empoleon hard, its steel armor heating up under the intense heat. The attack not only dealt significant damage but also boosted Volcarona's special attack further.
Steven clenched his fist, knowing that Empoleon had taken serious damage from Volcarona. He knew that even if he swapped out Empoleon for one of his other Pokémon, they'd be either beaten or tired if they defeated Volcarona. Hence, he had to end it as soon as possible.
"Empoleon, use Aqua Jet!" Steven shouted as Empoleon shot forward in a burst of water, closing the distance between them in an instant. The attack hit Volcarona, the water colliding with its fiery form, causing Volcarona to flinch slightly but held on as she flew back toward Issei.
Issei knew he had to press the advantage due to Empoleon looking tired after the Fiery Dance.
"Volcarona, finish it with Fiery Buzz!"
Volcarona's wings vibrated rapidly, creating a powerful sound wave combined with a Fiery Dance that slammed into Empoleon. The attack was devastating, causing the arena to tremble. Empoleon, already weakened by the fiery onslaught, staggered before collapsing, unable to continue the fight.
"Empoleon is unable to battle! Volcarona wins!" The referee announced, raising his flag toward Issei.
The crowd erupted into cheers, amazed by the power and coordination between Issei and Volcarona. Issei smiled, proud of his partner.
Steven returned Empoleon to its Poké Ball, a small smile playing on his lips despite the loss. "Impressive, Issei. But the battle is far from over."
Issei nodded, ready for whatever Steven had planned next. The battle was only beginning, and both Trainers knew that each move would bring them closer to the ultimate prize—the title of Champion.
"And with that, Steven has lost three Pokemon while Issei has lost one. How exciting! What will we see from our Champion and Champion in the making? Find out after a break while we replace the arena!" The commentator said as they took a break from battle, Issei looked over his team and smiled as he tended to Roserade, Magnezone, and Volcarona.
The three enjoyed the special care to detail when Issei checked them for injuries and granted Roserade was out of the competition, but the other two still enjoyed the comfort of their master.
Roserade, still slightly worn out from the intense battle with Aggron, gave a soft smile as Issei gently brushed a hand over her petals.
"You did amazing out there, Rose," Issei said softly, his voice filled with pride and affection. "You really showed Aggron your true strength."
Roserade nodded, her eyes glimmering with satisfaction despite the exhaustion. Magnezone hovered close by, its magnets whirring contentedly as Issei checked its exterior for any lingering effects from Skarmory's attacks. Volcarona, though less worn out, fluttered gently next to him, basking in the attention.
"You too, Volcana. You handled Empoleon perfectly," Issei added with a grin. "And Sherif, you really set the tone for this battle."
Magnezone let out a low hum of appreciation while Volcarona's wings shimmered in response.
As Issei finished tending to his team, he heard footsteps approaching. He looked up to see Cynthia making her way down from the stands. The Sinnoh Champion had a proud smile on her face, her long blonde hair flowing gracefully as she moved. Ursula followed close behind, giving Issei a playful wink.
"Congratulations, Issei. That was an incredible display," Cynthia said warmly as she reached him. Her gaze softened as she looked over his Pokémon. "You've come so far."
Issei stood up, offering a modest smile. "Thanks, Cynthia. It means a lot coming from you. But I couldn't have done it without my team."
Cynthia nodded, her eyes flicking briefly to Roserade, who was resting after the intense battle. "Your bond with your Pokémon is strong. But I noticed something during your match with Aggron. You held back, didn't you? You didn't have Roserade use her transformation until the very end."
Issei hesitated, his hand still gently resting on Roserade's head. He knew Cynthia had noticed. She always did.
"Yeah," he admitted quietly, his gaze dropping to the ground. "I didn't want to rely on Roserade's transformation right away. It's a powerful gift, and I didn't want to seem like I was using it as a crutch. I wanted to show that we could win without it."
Cynthia's expression softened further as she stepped closer to Issei. "I understand your concern, but you need to realize that your Pokémon's gifts, those transformations, are a part of who they are. Just like you've trained them to be strong, they've earned those powers through their journeys. Holding back doesn't make you less of a trainer. If anything, it shows that you're trying to challenge yourself."
Issei looked up, meeting Cynthia's gaze. "I guess... I didn't want people to think I was taking the easy way out. That I couldn't win without these special abilities."
Cynthia placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch reassuring. "No one who has seen you battle would ever think that, Issei. You've proven your skills time and time again. Your tactical mind and your connection with your Pokémon are what make you a great trainer. Using their gifts doesn't diminish that. It's about knowing when and how to use everything at your disposal, and that includes their transformations."
Issei took a deep breath, letting Cynthia's words sink in. He glanced down at Roserade, who was looking up at him with those determined eyes that had never wavered, even in the heat of battle.
"Thanks, Cynthia," he said, his voice filled with renewed resolve. "I needed to hear that."
Cynthia smiled, giving his shoulder a gentle squeeze before stepping back. "Now, go finish this. Steven's strong, but you've got what it takes to become Champion. And don't hold back—use everything you've got."
Issei nodded, a fire igniting in his eyes as he looked back at his team. "Right. We'll give it everything we have."
As the announcement came that the break was over and the battlefield was ready, Issei stood tall, confidence radiating from him. He recalled Volcarona and Magnezone, giving them a brief rest before their next battles, and then turned to Roserade.
"You ready to watch from the sidelines, Rose?" he asked gently, knowing she had done more than enough.
Roserade nodded, a satisfied smile on her face as she returned to her Poké Ball. With his Pokémon secure, Issei took a deep breath and turned to head back to the battlefield. The crowd's roar grew louder as he stepped back into the arena, where Steven was already waiting with a calm, composed expression.
As the battle was about to resume, Issei's mind was clear. Cynthia was right—this was his moment, and he wasn't going to hold anything back.
The referee raised his hand. "Trainers, ready your next Pokémon!"
Issei's hand hovered over his Poké Balls, his heart racing with anticipation. This was it—the final stretch. With a determined grin, he selected his next Pokémon and locked eyes with Steven.
"Let's finish this, Steven," Issei called out, his voice steady and filled with determination.
Steven gave a small, approving nod. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
The referee's hand dropped. "Begin!"
And with that, the final phase of the ultimate battle began.
As the referee's hand dropped, signaling the start of the final phase of their battle, Steven reached for his next Poké Ball with practiced precision. The familiar glint of determination in his eyes spoke volumes as he threw the Poké Ball into the air.
"Cradily, let's show them our strength!" Steven called out.
In a flash of light, Cradily emerged onto the battlefield, its long, tentacle-like appendages waving gently as it stood firmly rooted in place. The ancient Rock- and Grass-type Pokémon was a formidable opponent, known for its incredible defenses and resilience. Its vibrant, flower-like head swayed in the air, giving it an almost serene appearance, but Issei knew better than to underestimate it.
Issei wasted no time in responding. He already had his next Pokémon in mind, one that could match Cradily's defensive capabilities and hit hard in return.
"Avalugg, you're up!" Issei shouted as he threw his Poké Ball.
With a roar, Avalugg appeared on the battlefield, its massive, iceberg-like body gleaming in the arena lights. The Ice-type Pokémon's solid, glacier-like exterior was a testament to its incredible defense, making it the perfect choice to face Steven's Cradily. As the two Pokémon faced each other, the tension in the arena was palpable.
Steven was the first to act. "Cradily, start with *Stealth Rock*!"
Cradily's tentacles glowed with a soft, green light as it raised them high into the air. Large, sharp rocks materialized out of nowhere and hovered ominously around Avalugg, preparing to strike any future Pokémon that Issei might call upon.
Issei didn't flinch. He had anticipated this move. "Avalugg, use *Rapid Spin*!"
Avalugg's massive body began to rotate, its immense bulk moving with surprising speed. As it spun, the Stealth Rocks that had surrounded it were flung away harmlessly, clearing the battlefield of any lingering hazards. The spinning also increased Avalugg's speed slightly, giving it a bit more agility in the battle to come.
Steven's eyes narrowed slightly, impressed but undeterred. "Cradily hit it with *Energy Ball*!"
Cradily gathered energy between its tentacles, forming a glowing green orb of concentrated Grass-type power. With a quick motion, it hurled the *Energy Ball* at Avalugg, aiming for its weak spot.
"Avalugg, *Mirror Coat*!" Issei commanded.
The *Energy Ball* struck Avalugg hard, but instead of recoiling, Avalugg's body shimmered with a reflective aura. The energy from the attack was absorbed and then returned at double the force, the radiant blast surging back toward Cradily with devastating speed.
"Cradily, *Protect*!" Steven called out quickly.
Cradily reacted instantly, forming a transparent barrier in front of it. The reflected *Energy Ball* crashed against the shield, dissipating harmlessly. It was a perfectly executed defense, showcasing the synergy between Steven and his Pokémon.
Issei still needed to be finished. "Avalugg, follow up with *Avalanche*!"
Avalugg roared as it summoned a massive wave of ice and snow, sending it crashing down onto Cradily. The sheer power of the move, combined with Avalugg's natural affinity for Ice-type attacks, made it a formidable offensive maneuver.
"Counter with *Giga Drain*!" Steven shouted.
As the Avalanche of ice bore down on Cradily, it reached out with its tentacles, glowing with green energy. The *Giga Drain* connected with Avalugg just as the icy wave hit Cradily, sapping Avalugg's strength while Cradily took the full force of the attack. Both Pokémon recoiled from the exchange, but it was clear that Cradily had managed to regain some of its health, while Avalugg had taken significant damage.
Issei knew he had to change tactics. "Avalugg, go on the defensive—use *Recover*!"
Avalugg's body shimmered with a soft light as it began to heal itself, some of the ice on its body reforming and repairing the damage from the battle. It was back in fighting shape, though Issei knew he couldn't keep this up forever.
Steven, recognizing the shift, pressed the attack. "Cradily, don't let up—use *Ancient Power*!"
Cradily's eyes glowed as it summoned ancient, mystical energy from deep within the earth. The ground beneath Avalugg began to rumble as massive boulders, charged with prehistoric power, erupted toward the surface, crashing into Avalugg with tremendous force.
Avalugg staggered under the onslaught, but Issei wasn't ready to give up. He needed to think strategically. The battlefield was full of potential advantages and hazards, and he had to find a way to turn the tide.
"Avalugg, use *Ice Fang*—target Cradily's roots!" Issei called out, an idea forming in his mind.
Avalugg lunged forward, its jaws glowing with icy energy. It aimed for Cradily's base, where its roots connected to the ground, hoping to slow it down or even freeze it in place. The icy fangs clamped down hard, sending a chilling surge through Cradily's body.
Cradily shuddered from the impact, the frost beginning to creep up its tendrils. But Steven was quick to react.
"Cradily, break free with *Ingrain*!"
Cradily extended its roots deep into the ground, anchoring itself firmly and absorbing nutrients from the earth. The icy grip of Avalugg's *Ice Fang* loosened as Cradily's natural healing took effect, mitigating the damage and reinforcing its defenses.
Issei realized that Cradily's endurance was becoming a problem. He needed to outmaneuver Steven if he wanted to break through.
"Avalugg, switch it up! Use *Curse*!"
Avalugg began to chant a low, eerie mantra, its body glowing with dark energy. Though it slowed down as a result, its attack and defense stats were boosted considerably. The battlefield shifted as Avalugg's already impressive defenses became even more formidable, and its attacks grew more powerful.
Steven's eyes narrowed. He knew that Avalugg's boosted stats could pose a serious threat, but he had a plan. "Cradily, let's end this—use *Earth Power*!"
The ground beneath Avalugg began to tremble violently as Cradily summoned the energy of the earth itself. The ground erupted in an explosion of energy, targeting Avalugg's weakened state.
Issei knew this was it. "Avalugg, use Avalanche one more time!"
As the Earth Power surged toward Avalugg, the Ice-type Pokémon channeled all its remaining strength into one final Avalanche. The icy wave surged forward, meeting the Earth Power head-on. The collision of the two forces created a massive explosion of energy and ice, obscuring the battlefield in a blinding flash of light.
When the dust settled, both Pokémon were still standing, but it was clear they were both on their last legs. Avalugg's breathing was labored, its icy body chipped and cracked, while Cradily's petals were wilted, and its tentacles drooped with exhaustion.
For a moment, there was silence as both trainers and their Pokémon stared each other down, the next move potentially deciding the outcome.
Issei and Steven locked eyes, each understanding the Gravity of the moment. They had pushed their Pokémon to their limits, and now it all came down to this.
"Cradily, use Recover!" Steven called out, hoping to restore Cradily's strength for one final push.
But Issei wasn't going to let that happen. "Avalugg, use Gyro Ball!"
Avalugg, despite its exhaustion, began to spin once more, this time putting all its weight and remaining strength into the attack. The metallic sheen of the Gyro Ball glowed as Avalugg launched itself at Cradily with surprising speed, given its lowered mobility from the Curse.
The Gyro Ball connected just as Cradily began to heal, sending it reeling from the impact. Cradily struggled to stay upright, its attempt to recover cut short by the powerful, heavy blow.
For a moment, it seemed as though both Pokémon were about to collapse. The tension in the arena was palpable as the crowd held its breath, waiting to see who would remain standing.
Finally, with a final, labored breath, Cradily fell to the ground and fainted.
With Cradily down, Steven recalled his Pokémon with a quiet word of thanks for its efforts. He knew this battle was far from over. Grabbing his next Poké Ball, Steven's determination didn't waver.
"Armaldo, it's your turn!" Steven called out, throwing the Poké Ball.
In a flash of light, Armaldo materialized on the battlefield. The ancient Bug- and Rock-type Pokémon stood tall, its armored exoskeleton gleaming under the arena lights. Its sharp claws clicked together menacingly, and its piercing eyes locked onto Avalugg, who was still on the field, breathing heavily from its previous battle with Cradily.
Issei knew Avalugg was at a disadvantage after the grueling battle, but he also saw an opportunity. Avalugg's Ice-type moves could deal serious damage to Armaldo, and Issei hoped that Avalugg had just enough strength left to finish the fight quickly.
"Avalugg, let's keep going! Use *Avalanche*!" Issei commanded, his voice resolute.
Avalugg roared and summoned a massive wave of ice and snow, sending it crashing toward Armaldo with tremendous force. The move was boosted by Avalugg's earlier use of *Curse, making it an incredibly powerful attack. The icy wave barreled down on Armaldo, who braced itself for impact.
"Armaldo, stand your ground!" Steven ordered.
Armaldo crossed its claws in front of its body, tanking the blow head-on. The *Avalanche* struck with full force, and for a moment, Armaldo was engulfed in a blizzard of ice and snow. When the attack subsided, Armaldo emerged, visibly battered but still standing strong. Its sturdy armor had absorbed much of the impact, though it was clear the hit had taken a toll.
Issei still needed to finish this battle. "Follow up with *Ice Fang*!"
Avalugg surged forward, its jaws glowing with icy energy once more. It aimed to bite down on Armaldo, hoping to deal additional damage and possibly freeze it in place. Avalugg's sheer size and power made this a dangerous move, especially at such close range.
"Armaldo, dodge, and use X-Scissor!" Steven countered.
Armaldo nimbly sidestepped Avalugg's lunge, its speed surprising given its bulky appearance. As Avalugg's Ice Fang snapped shut on empty air, Armaldo retaliated with a powerful X-scissor. Crossing its claws, Armaldo slashed at Avalugg with glowing green energy, the Bug-type move cutting deep into Avalugg's side.
Avalugg roared in pain, stumbling back from the blow. The repeated hits were wearing it down, but Issei knew he couldn't afford to back down now. Avalugg's Ice-type moves were his best shot at taking down Armaldo, and he needed to finish this quickly.
"Avalugg, one more time—Avalanche!" Issei called out.
Avalugg gathered what little strength it had left, summoning another wave of ice and snow. The Avalanche surged toward Armaldo once again, this time even larger and more ferocious, fueled by Avalugg's desperation and determination.
But Steven was ready. "Armaldo, get in close and finish this with *Guillotine*!"
Armaldo charged straight into the oncoming Avalanche, its body glowing with dark, ominous energy. The ancient Pokémon pushed through the icy wave, taking the brunt of the attack head-on. Its armored body was battered and frozen in place, but Armaldo's resolve didn't waver. As it closed the distance between itself and Avalugg, the energy around its claws intensified, forming a deadly, slicing-edge.
In a blur of movement, Armaldo leaped at Avalugg. Its claw raised high. The Guillotine attack was a high-risk, high-reward move—an all-or-nothing strike that could end the battle in an instant.
And in that instant, Armaldo's claw came down with precision, striking Avalugg at its most vulnerable point.
There was a moment of silence as the move connected, and then Avalugg let out a low, pained groan. The immense Ice-type Pokémon swayed on its feet before collapsing to the ground with a heavy thud, the life force drained from its body in one fell swoop.
Issei's eyes widened in disbelief as the referee raised a hand, signaling Avalugg's defeat. Armaldo had pulled off the impossible, tanking Avalugg's relentless attacks and delivering a one-shot victory with *Guillotine* at close range.
The crowd erupted into cheers and gasps, marveling at the sheer intensity and skill displayed by both trainers. Issei recalled Avalugg, his mind racing. He knew he still had more Pokémon to battle with, but losing Avalugg was a heavy blow. He couldn't afford any more mistakes—Steven was a champion for a reason, and this battle was far from over.
As Issei prepared to call out his next Pokémon, he couldn't help but respect the tenacity and power of Steven's Armaldo. This was going to be one of the toughest battles he had ever fought, but he was ready to give it everything he had.
As the dust settled from Avalugg's fall, the referee raised his arm, signaling the defeat. "Avalugg is unable to battle. Trainer Issei now has two Pokémon down." His voice echoed through the arena, drawing murmurs from the crowd. This match was proving to be a test of endurance and strategy, with Steven taking the lead.
Issei took a deep breath, trying to shake off the disappointment of losing Avalugg. He knew he couldn't afford to dwell on it. He had chosen his next Pokémon carefully, anticipating Steven's strengths and Armaldo's tenacity. With a steady hand, Issei reached for a Poké Ball on his belt.
"You've done well so far, Steven," Issei said, a determined edge to his voice. "But I'm not out of this yet. Let's turn this around. Venusaur, I choose you!"
He threw the Poké Ball into the air, and in a burst of light, Venusaur emerged onto the battlefield. The large, Grass- and Poison-type Pokémon let out a deep roar, its massive flower blooming vibrantly atop its back. The scent of Venusaur's flower-filled the arena, a subtle reminder of its immense power and the connection it had with nature.
Steven's eyes narrowed as he analyzed the situation. Venusaur was a versatile Pokémon, and he knew it wouldn't go down easily. Armaldo was already weakened from the previous battle, but its Bug-type moves could be a serious threat to Venusaur. However, he was aware of Issei's reputation for being resourceful, so he prepared for a battle that could go in any direction.
"Armaldo, let's not give Venusaur any room to breathe! Use *X-Scissor*!" Steven commanded.
Armaldo, despite its injuries, charged at Venusaur with remarkable speed, its claws glowing green with the energy of the Bug-type move. The attack could do significant damage if it landed, and Steven hoped to end this quickly before Venusaur could set up.
But Issei was ready. "Venusaur, keep your distance! Use *Leech Seed*!"
As Armaldo closed in, Venusaur quickly shot out a cluster of seeds from the flower on its back. The seeds flew through the air and latched onto Armaldo just before it reached Venusaur. The seeds sprouted instantly, wrapping Armaldo in thick vines that sapped its energy with every passing second.
Armaldo slashed through the vines with *X-Scissor, but the move lost some of its momentum, the damage mitigated by Venusaur's defensive positioning. The attack still hit, causing Venusaur to grunt in pain, but the Grass-type Pokémon remained firm, its eyes glowing with determination.
"Now, use *Giga Drain*!" Issei ordered.
Venusaur's flower glowed bright green as it unleashed tendrils of energy that shot toward Armaldo. The tendrils latched onto the weakened Bug- and Rock-type, draining its remaining energy and transferring it back to Venusaur. The effect was immediate—Armaldo's movements grew sluggish as its energy was sapped, while Venusaur's wounds began to heal, the life force revitalizing it.
Steven clenched his jaw. He knew this tactic well. Issei was using long-range and draining moves to wear down Armaldo while keeping Venusaur safe from its Bug-type attacks.
It was a smart strategy, exploiting Armaldo's lack of speed and endurance.
"Armaldo, try to break free! Use *Stone Edge*!" Steven called out.
Armaldo roared and summoned sharp, jagged stones from the ground, launching them at Venusaur in a desperate attempt to deal heavy damage. The stones flew through the air, threatening to crush Venusaur if they hit.
"Dodge it and use *Energy Ball*!" Issei countered.
Venusaur reacted quickly, sidestepping the incoming stones with surprising agility for its size. The stones crashed into the ground, missing their target by inches. Without missing a beat, Venusaur retaliated by gathering a glowing orb of green energy in its mouth before firing it at Armaldo.
The *Energy Ball* struck Armaldo squarely, the force of the impact sending it skidding backward. The combination of *Leech Seed, *Giga Drain, and now *Energy Ball* was proving too much for Armaldo to handle. Despite its tough exterior, Armaldo's energy was rapidly depleting, and it was clear that the ancient Pokémon was on its last legs.
Steven knew that he had to make a last-ditch effort. "Armaldo, one more time—use *X-Scissor*!"
Armaldo pushed forward, its claws glowing once more with the green energy of *X-Scissor*. It charged at Venusaur, determined to land one final, powerful hit.
But Issei was ready to end this. "Venusaur, finish it with *Giga Drain*!"
As Armaldo closed in, Venusaur unleashed another wave of green tendrils, this time with even greater intensity. The tendrils wrapped around Armaldo, draining the last of its energy just before it could land its attack. Armaldo's claws fell short, the glowing energy dissipating as it collapsed to the ground, completely drained of its strength.
The referee raised his arm again. "Armaldo is unable to battle! Venusaur wins!"
Issei let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. Venusaur stood victorious, the flower on its back glowing brightly, a testament to its strength and the strategy Issei had employed. With Armaldo defeated, the score was now even, five Pokémon down for the Steel Champion.
Steven recalled Armaldo, giving it a nod of respect for its valiant efforts. He knew this battle was only going to get more intense from here. Both trainers were giving it their all, and with the battle in its final stage, this battle will determine the outcome.
Issei and Steven stood on opposite sides of the battlefield, their eyes locked in determination. Issei recalled his victorious Venusaur. He knew that it was time to bring out one of his most trusted partners, one that had seen him through countless battles.
With a confident smile, Issei reached for his next Poké Ball. "You've done well, Venusaur. Now, it's your turn to shine, Lucario!"
Issei threw the Poké Ball into the air, and in a flash of light, Lucario appeared, its sharp eyes scanning the battlefield. The Fighting- and Steel-type Pokémon radiated an aura of calm intensity, its red and black fur bristling with anticipation.
Steven nodded in approval. "Lucario, huh? It's a fine choice. But I think it's time I brought out a Pokémon that can match it in power and resolve." He took a Poké Ball from his belt, the polished surface gleaming in the light. "Metagross, it's your time to battle!"
The ball opened, releasing Steven's ace, Shiny Metagross. The Steel- and Psychic-type Pokémon landed with a heavy thud, its metallic body shining under the arena lights. The four-legged Pokémon's red eyes glowed with fierce intelligence, and it immediately focused on Lucario, recognizing a formidable opponent.
The atmosphere in the stadium shifted as the crowd sensed the tension rising. Both Lucario and Metagross were known for their immense power, but the trainers had something even more exciting in mind.
Issei and Steven exchanged a look, a silent agreement passing between them. This was going to be more than just a battle—it would be a clash of titans.
"Let's make this one to remember, Steven," Issei said, reaching for the keystone embedded in his bracelet.
Steven mirrored the gesture, revealing his keystone. "Agreed. Let's see whose bond is stronger. Metagross, Mega Evolve!"
"Lucario, Mega Evolve!"
As both trainers activated their keystones, a surge of energy enveloped the battlefield. Lucario and Metagross began to glow with an intense light as they tapped into the power of Mega Evolution. The transformation was swift yet powerful, their forms shifting and their strength increasing exponentially.
Lucario's body grew more muscular, its spikes extending and its aura sensors glowing with a vibrant blue light. As Mega Lucario, it stood even taller, exuding an aura of pure fighting spirit.
Metagross, now Mega Metagross, floated above the ground, its four limbs extending outwards, making it look even more menacing. The X-shaped cross on its face turned a deep crimson, and its eyes glowed with an eerie red light, signaling the boost in its psychic power.
The crowd erupted in cheers as the two Mega Evolved Pokémon faced each other, their energies crackling in the air.
"Lucario, let's start strong! Use *Aura Sphere*!" Issei commanded.
Mega Lucario raised one paw, forming a glowing sphere of blue energy between its claws. With precision and speed, it hurled the *Aura Sphere* at Mega Metagross, the attack homing in on its target.
"Metagross, counter with *Psychic*!" Steven ordered.
Mega Metagross's eyes glowed brighter as it unleashed a wave of psychic energy, intercepting the *Aura Sphere* mid-flight. The two attacks collided, resulting in a powerful explosion that shook the battlefield, but neither Pokémon flinched. They were both in their element, ready for the next move.
"Close the distance, Lucario! Use *Bone Rush*!" Issei shouted.
Mega Lucario dashed forward with incredible speed, summoning a long, glowing bone made of pure energy. It spun the bone expertly in its paws, aiming to strike Mega Metagross with a flurry of powerful blows.
"Not so fast! Metagross, *Meteor Mash*!" Steven countered.
Mega Metagross's metallic claws glowed with a bright white light as it met Lucario's charge head-on. The two Pokémon clashed with immense force, their moves sending shockwaves through the stadium. Lucario's *Bone Rush* struck with rapid, precise hits, but Mega Metagross countered each one with its crushing blows, neither Pokémon giving an inch.
The trainers watched intently, knowing that this battle would be decided by both strategy and the bond they shared with their Pokémon.
"Time to switch things up, Lucario! Use *Extreme Speed*!" Issei called out.
Lucario's form blurred as it moved faster than the eye could follow, darting around Mega Metagross with incredible agility. It struck from all sides, landing hits that kept Mega Metagross on the defensive.
"Metagross, we need to regain control. Use *Bullet Punch*!" Steven responded.
Mega Metagross's claws moved with lightning speed, lashing out at Lucario with *Bullet Punch*. The move was almost as fast as Lucario's *Extreme Speed, and the two Pokémon exchanged a rapid series of blows, each one landing with the sound of metal clashing against energy.
Despite the back-and-forth, it was clear that both Pokémon were beginning to tire from the sheer intensity of the battle. Issei and Steven knew that it was time to bring this to a head.
"Lucario, let's finish this with everything we've got! Use *Close Combat*!" Issei commanded.
Lucario roared, charging at Mega Metagross with all its might. It unleashed a barrage of punches and kicks, each one infused with its fighting spirit. The sheer power behind the move threatened to overwhelm even Mega Metagross's defenses.
Steven's eyes narrowed. "Metagross, hold nothing back! Use *Giga Impact*!"
Mega Metagross gathered all its remaining strength, its entire body glowing with intense energy as it prepared to unleash a devastating *Giga Impact*. It met Lucario's *Close Combat* head-on, the two moves clashing in a final, explosive confrontation.
The arena was filled with light as the two attacks collided, the force of their power shaking the very ground beneath them. For a moment, it was impossible to tell which Pokémon would come out on top.
Then, as the dust settled, the two Pokémon stood facing each other, breathing heavily. The crowd held its breath, waiting for the outcome.
As the dust settled on the battlefield, the crowd watched in tense silence, waiting for the outcome of the intense clash between Issei's Lucario and Steven's Metagross. The two Mega-Evolved Pokémon had given everything they had, but it was clear that they were both on the verge of collapse.
Mega Lucario stood panting, its aura sensors dimming as it struggled to stay upright. Meanwhile, Mega Metagross, still glowing with the residual energy of its *Giga Impact, began to falter. With a heavy, resounding thud, Metagross fell to the ground, its Mega Evolution fading away as it lay motionless, utterly spent.
Lucario, though battered and exhausted, remained standing—barely. It took one shaky step forward, its eyes locked onto Steven, before finally dropping to one knee and then collapsing as well. The energy of its Mega Evolution faded, and it reverted to its original form, completely drained.
The referee stepped forward, assessing the situation. "Metagross is unable to battle! Lucario is unable to battle! However, Steven has no remaining Pokémon, meaning the victory goes to Issei!"
The crowd erupted into cheers, celebrating the conclusion of the intense battle. Issei let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, a smile of relief and pride spreading across his face. He walked forward and gently returned Lucario to its Poké Ball, whispering words of gratitude for its incredible effort.
Steven did the same with Metagross, a smile of admiration on his face. "You fought incredibly well, Issei. Your strategies, your bond with your Pokémon—it's all very impressive."
Issei walked up to Steven, extending his hand. "Thank you, Steven. Coming from you, that means a lot. Your Pokémon are amazing, and I learned so much from this battle."
Steven shook Issei's hand firmly. "The pleasure was mine. It's always an honor to battle a trainer who truly understands their Pokémon." He paused, then added with a grin, "But don't think I'll go easy on you if we ever battle again."
Issei chuckled. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
As the two trainers stood in the center of the battlefield, the crowd continued to cheer, acknowledging not just Issei's victory but the incredible display of skill and sportsmanship from both sides. It had been a battle for the ages, one that would be remembered by everyone who witnessed it.
Issei was so happy since he was able to reach his dream.
He was becoming the Champion of his region.
"And since you wished to become a champion of your region, we have some good options for you to choose from," Steven said as the ceremony began with Issei being given the title and rank of Champion and was honored by all of the champions to be given the chance to rule his region.
Issei was happy that he was able to make his dream a reality until the ceremony ended with Issei celebrating with his faction, the Dragon Guardians.
"To our glorious leader and now a champion!" Aurelius cheered as the group cheered for their master to be able to make his dream come true until Ursula stopped them.
"Now, now. Issei actually chose his region, and it's actually an amazing region that's been waiting for someone to find it. Issei was actually fortunate since it only reappeared after centuries due to the combined chaos that occurred within Unova, Kalos, and Sinnoh." Ursula said before Issei further explained the region.
"Indeed. It was after Cynthia actually told me about the unknown region and asked me to join her. I did, and to my surprise, we saw that it was a region in the sea that was protected by some strange barrier. However, as we approached it, something felt like it was talking to me, asking me to enter the barrier." Issei said as he looked back to the day he and Cynthia went to the unknown and forgotten region.
Flashback.
The scene transitioned to a misty, mysterious sea with Cynthia and Issei approaching a shimmering barrier that encircles a hidden region. The barrier glows with an otherworldly light, and as they draw near, a deep, resonant voice seems to echo from within, creating an atmosphere of intrigue.
"Something felt like it was calling to me," Issei's voice narrates, "asking me to enter the barrier. It was as if the region itself was reaching out, sensing that someone with the right spirit and strength had finally arrived."
Inside the barrier, the scene shifts to a grand, ancient temple within the heart of Celestia City. The temple is bathed in a warm, golden light, with celestial symbols and magical runes glowing softly on the walls.
Issei then stood Arceus in her human form—a wise and graceful figure radiating a calming, authoritative presence.
"Welcome, Issei Hyoudou," Arceus says gently. "It is an honor to meet you again finally. I have been watching your journey with great interest since you've done so much for the people of said regions."
The Goddess of Pokemon said while Issei blushed since he felt like he would be disrespectful by just calling her beautiful. For such words didn't fit such a divine beauty before his very eyes.
"I'm happy to see you again, Arceus, but why keep your human firm when you are in front of me?"
Arceus smiles softly. "Well, although I am often perceived in my divine form, there are times when I take on a human guise to connect more deeply with the world. My intent in creating Aetheris was to blend the essence of Pokémon with the magic of the cosmos."
The vision transitions to a vibrant and bustling Aetheris of ancient times—a land where humans and Pokémon lived in harmony. Magical structures floated gracefully, and the islands thrived with life.
Arceus's voice-over continues, "In times long past, Aetheris was a beacon of magic and unity. The Celestial Rift is the cosmic event that was created by the greediness of humans and their lack of understanding of the consequences of messing with forces beyond their comprehension. It was a tragic event, disrupting the balance and forcing humanity to leave, leaving only the Pokémon to protect the region."
The vision darkens to show the aftermath of the Celestial Rift—silent, abandoned cities, with only Pokémon remaining as guardians until many years became centuries and manu Pokémon passing away, leaving only a small group of Pokemon with the Legendary Pokemon.
"The Pokémon have maintained the islands and the magical barriers, waiting for a new Champion. The legendary Pokémon who once safeguarded Aetheris have passed away, leaving only their spirits behind."
Ghostly forms of the legendary Pokémon drift through the islands, their presence filled with a mix of tranquility and longing.
Arceus's voice resonates deeply, "Their spirits still thrive and wish for the day when a human, worthy of the title of Champion and understands magic, will be able to restore balance and bring humanity back to Aetheris. Only then can the islands float above the sea and earth once more."
Returning to the present, Issei looks around at his companions with a sense of renewed determination.
"I will restore Aetheris," Issei declared firmly. "I'll honor the legacy of the Pokémon and the humans who once lived here. I'll ensure this region can once again thrive, floating high above the sea and earth."
End Flashback
The room fills with renewed excitement and support from the Dragon Guardians, their cheers now a blend of celebration and anticipation for the journey ahead.
"And this shall be the region that I will make into my own, but I will only have a year to repair the island and help it thrive once more, which is why I ask you all to help me rebuild the region and restore the region to its former glory," Issei said since he could force them. Still, it would make him no better than the other evil organizations he shut down.
Aurelius stepped forward, her expression one of unwavering loyalty. "Issei, you've always led us with honor and strength. We believe in you and the vision you have for Aetheris. We will stand by your side and help restore this region to its former splendor."
Ursula nodded in agreement. "Indeed. Aetheris has been waiting for this moment, and your dedication to its revival is inspiring. We will support you in every way we can."
The other Dragon Guardians murmured their approval, their faces alight with enthusiasm and resolve.
Issei smiled, grateful for their support. "Thank you, everyone. Your commitment means more to me than you know. Together, we'll breathe new life into Aetheris and ensure that it once again shines as a beacon of harmony and magic."
The celebration resumed with a renewed sense of purpose. As the Dragon Guardians rallied behind their leader, plans began to take shape for the monumental task ahead. The journey to restore Aetheris was beginning, but with the strength and unity of the Dragon Guardians, there was no doubt that the region would soon be on its way to rebirth.
And scene!
Now that the Battle of Champions has concluded, it is time to see Ash thrive in Hoenn since he'll have gotten farther thanks to Sabrina's help with Domino, as well as Issei's training and swapping out his Pokemon while catching a new team of six in Hoenn.
