Jason did his best to make Marissa feel comfortable in his home. After they arrived, he took her to his simple but cozy room. He offered her his bed, knowing she needed the comfort more than he did.
"I'll grab a pillow and sleep on the couch." He said, moving his soft, fluffy pillow to the living room.
"Are you sure?" Marissa asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Absolutely. You need the rest," he reassured her with a gentle smile before closing the door softly behind him.
The night was quiet, but the silence was heavy with grief. Jason tossed and turned on the couch, unable to shake what had happened that day. After a few hours, he awoke to the sound of muffled sobs. His heart ached for Marissa, knowing he couldn't leave her alone in her pain.
Quietly, he got up and tiptoed to his bedroom. The sight of her curled up in his bed, tears streaming down her face, broke his heart. Without thinking, he gently slipped in beside her, wrapping his arms around her.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm here," he murmured.
Marissa turned towards him, her eyes glistening in the dim light. She needed the comfort more than she realized. Jason's presence was calming, and the steady beat of his heart soothed her like a lullaby.
"I'm so sorry, Marissa," he whispered. "You don't have to go through this alone. I'm right here."
As Marissa lay in Jason's arms, the comfort of his presence enveloped her like a warm blanket. The weight of her loss was still heavy on her heart, but there was something about the way Jason held her so tenderly and protectively that drew her in.
She looked up and found his gaze lingering on her. There was a flicker of understanding in his eyes, a shared pain that connected them. Without thinking, she leaned in and pressed her lips softly against his.
The kiss was gentle at first. Jason responded, his hand moving to cup her cheek, deepening the connection as he kissed her back. It felt raw and honest, a momentary escape from the grief surrounding them.
Marissa pulled away slightly, her breath hitching as she searched Jason's eyes for a reaction.
"I shouldn't have done that," she whispered.
Jason's expression was gentle but serious. "No, it's okay," he assured her, his thumb brushing against her cheek. "We're both hurting, and it's natural to seek comfort in one another."
She felt a rush of relief at his words.
"What if this complicates things?" she asked.
"Maybe it will," he replied, "but we need each other right now. Let's not think about anything else. Just be here, in this moment."
Marissa nodded, feeling the tension in her chest ease just a little. She knew she would have to face her consequences one day, but for tonight, she wanted someone to hold her as she grieved Benny's death.
