Worlds Collide: Triple Trouble
Big Trouble in Shang Mu Part 5
The boys rounded the final turn of the track, their footsteps pounding against the ground as they neared the transition point. Sonic, Quill, and Spade exchanged brief glances, their competitive instincts firing on all cylinders. Ahead, Lilac, Surge, and Mystic were getting into position, ready to take over for the second leg of the race.
Their earlier conversation—about kissing, embarrassment, and everything in between—lingered in their minds, but the intensity of the competition forced them to push it aside. The moment was here, and they couldn't afford to be distracted.
As soon as Sonic, Quill, and Spade crossed the line, they passed the relay to their respective partners. Without hesitation, Lilac, Surge, and Mystic shot off, charging down the track at full speed.
Lilac led the way, her legs pumping with a mix of determination and adrenaline. Her agility and experience as a warrior made her movements fluid and swift, and she leaped over the first set of fire traps with ease. The flames roared beneath her feet, but she landed perfectly on the other side, never breaking stride.
"Come on, come on, stay focused," Lilac muttered to herself, her eyes scanning the track for the next obstacle.
Surge, right on her tail, was handling the course with her usual rebellious flair. Where Lilac leaped over the traps, Surge blasted through them, her electric powers crackling around her like a storm. As the flames erupted from the ground, Surge shot forward with a burst of speed, her electricity flaring in response to the heat. She darted through the flames, barely fazed, the corners of her mouth curling into a smirk.
"Too slow, dragon girl!" Surge called out, her voice dripping with playful arrogance as she gained on her.
Lilac glanced back, her competitive spirit sparking. "We'll see about that!"
Behind them, Mystic was navigating the course in her own way. The traps and obstacles didn't seem to faze her much—after all, she'd trained in environments far more dangerous than this. As a set of robots descended from above, she calmly reached into her deck of throwing cards and sent a flurry of sharp-edged cards flying through the air. Each card struck its target with precision, disabling the robots before they could even reach her.
"Such a tedious race," Mystic muttered, her tone bored as she effortlessly dodged the fire traps with a graceful twirl. "I was expecting more from these 'obstacles.'"
Surge, however, had no patience for the robots. As another wave of them swooped down toward her, she unleashed a powerful burst of electricity, frying them instantly. The smell of burnt circuitry filled the air as the robots dropped to the ground in heaps of metal and sparks.
"Can't even put up a fight," Surge sneered, her pace quickening as she closed the gap between herself and Lilac.
Lilac, still in the lead, knew she couldn't afford to let her guard down. The fire traps ahead were growing more frequent, and she needed to time her movements perfectly. As flames erupted just in front of her, Lilac vaulted into the air, her body spinning as she narrowly avoided the scorching heat.
But just as she landed, a group of robots appeared out of nowhere, blocking her path. They were bigger and more heavily armed than the previous ones, their metal limbs bristling with weapons.
"Seriously? Now?" Lilac gritted her teeth, readying herself for a fight. But there was no time to engage directly.
She dropped low and slid beneath the robots' swinging arms, her speed and agility keeping her just out of reach. As she rolled back onto her feet, she could hear the buzzing sound of Surge's electricity coming closer.
Surge blasted past the same robots, her electric charge flaring as she zapped them with a single strike, sending them crashing to the ground. "You should've just fried them, dragon girl!" Surge shouted, her voice filled with glee as she started to pull ahead.
Lilac smirked, her heart pounding with the thrill of competition. "Yeah, but where's the fun in that?"
The two of them were neck and neck now, both determined to outdo the other. As they rounded the final corner of the first lap, the crowd roared in excitement, watching the fierce rivalry unfold. Sonic, Quill, and Spade were shouting encouragement from the sidelines, their voices barely audible over the cheers of the audience.
As the second lap began, both Lilac and Surge pushed themselves harder, their competitive instincts driving them forward. The fire traps had become more unpredictable, and the robots more aggressive, but neither of them slowed down.
Surge grinned as she saw another batch of robots ahead, this time armed with shields. "My turn," she muttered, her eyes sparking with mischief.
She launched herself forward, her electric aura flaring as she slammed into the first robot with enough force to short-circuit its systems. The others didn't stand a chance—Surge was a blur of motion, each hit electrifying her opponents into oblivion.
Meanwhile, Lilac was facing the fire traps with renewed determination. The heat was intense, but her reflexes kept her ahead of the flames. She zigzagged across the track, dodging fire bursts and sliding under low-hanging obstacles. Her heart raced, but she wasn't about to let Surge get the better of her.
With one last leap over a particularly massive fire trap, Lilac landed just as Surge caught up to her again. The two girls were now side by side, both panting from the effort, but neither willing to give in.
"Not bad, dragon girl," Surge said between breaths, her competitive grin never faltering. "But I'm not losing this."
Lilac glanced at her, the hint of a smile tugging at her lips. "Neither am I."
The final stretch of the second lap was upon them, and the crowd's cheers reached a fever pitch as Lilac and Surge raced neck and neck toward the transition point. Neither girl willing to give an inch.
Lilac and Surge crossed the checkpoint at the exact same time, both panting from the intensity of their race. Just as they expected to continue, they were stopped by an unexpected obstacle—a solid wall blocking their path.
"What the—?" Lilac started, confusion clear on her face.
Surge growled in frustration. "Seriously, what's Zao up to now?"
Before they could puzzle it out, Mystic arrived, equally bewildered. "What is this supposed to be?" she muttered, her cool demeanor slipping as she stared at the wall. The ground beneath them suddenly began to rumble.
"Oh, great. Just great," Mystic groaned, narrowing her eyes as the shaking intensified. "I swear, I'm going to make Zao regret this."
Lilac and Surge exchanged glances and nodded in agreement. "Yeah, add me to that list," Lilac muttered.
"Same here," Surge growled.
Before they could react further, the ground gave way, and the three girls were launched into the air via a hidden catapult. Their startled yelps filled the air as they were hurled toward their partners, the world spinning around them.
On the other side of the track, Sonic, Quill, and Spade watched in horror as the girls were flung through the air toward them.
"Uh... what is happening right now?" Sonic stammered, wide-eyed as Lilac tumbled through the sky.
Quill, his eyes locked on Surge, shook his head. "Surge is going to kill Zao for this."
Spade, ever calm despite the chaos, simply sighed. "This is ridiculous."
As the girls descended rapidly, the boys moved into position. Sonic reached out and caught Lilac just before she hit the ground, pulling her into a classic princess carry with surprising ease. Quill, though a bit less graceful, managed to catch Surge, who scowled but didn't resist. Spade, with practiced calm, caught Mystic, who seemed more annoyed than startled.
With the girls safely in their arms, the final leg of the race began.
Sonic set off first, Lilac still in his arms. She was visibly mortified, her face flushed as she glanced up at him. "This... is humiliating," she muttered under her breath.
Sonic grinned. "Hey, you're lighter than I thought. This works out great!"
Lilac's blush deepened, but she remained silent as Sonic leaped over the first hurdle effortlessly.
Behind them, Quill carried Surge, doing his best to keep up. Surge's cheeks were red with embarrassment and fury. "Zao's dead after this," she growled.
Quill just nodded. "Yeah, I'm with you on that one."
Despite the awkwardness, Quill cleared the hurdles with relative ease, though Surge shot him a glare whenever he stumbled slightly.
Spade brought up the rear, carrying Mystic, who seemed more irritated than anything else. "If you drop me, Spade, you'll be sorry," she said flatly.
Spade, always calm, gave her a reassuring look. "Not planning on it."
As they continued down the track, Sonic maintained his lead, clearing the hurdles with his usual speed and agility. Lilac, while still embarrassed, couldn't help but be impressed by his ease with the obstacles. Before long, Sonic and Lilac crossed the finish line, the crowd erupting into cheers.
Quill and Surge crossed shortly after, with Quill panting slightly from the effort. Spade and Mystic finished in third, with Spade's steady pace ensuring they made it through without incident.
Sonic set Lilac down with a grin. "Told you we'd win."
Lilac, still flustered, shook her head, trying to regain her composure. "Yeah, yeah... let's just not talk about this ever again."
Just as the dust settled and the cheers of the crowd faded, Quill leaned against a post, clearly amused. "Hey, Lilac," he said with a smirk, "you do know this entire event was televised, right? Broadcast live to the whole city. Merga's definitely watching."
Lilac froze, mid-breath, her heart sinking as the realization hit her like a ton of bricks. "Wait... what?" she stammered, turning to Quill in disbelief.
"Yup," Quill replied, still enjoying her reaction. "Every awkward second of that princess carry—and everything before it. I'm sure Merga's sitting back, having a good laugh right now."
Lilac's face turned a deep shade of red, mortification washing over her. "You've got to be kidding me," she muttered, covering her face with both hands. Of all the moments to be aired live, this had to be the one Merga witnessed. The thought made her cringe.
Surge, still frustrated, smirked. "She probably thinks you and blue boy are really close now."
Lilac's blush deepened even further, and she let out a long, exasperated sigh. "Please, no..."
Quill, still amused, gave her a light pat on the shoulder. "Hey, at least you won. I'm sure Merga's... proud. In her own way."
Lilac peeked out from behind her fingers, still embarrassed. "This is officially the worst day ever," she groaned.
Back at the Resistance base, Carol couldn't stop laughing as the race played back on the screen in front of her. "Oh, this is too good," she snickered. "Lilac, being carried like a damsel in distress! Who knew?"
Milla, sitting beside her with wide eyes, leaned forward. "I've never seen Lilac like that," she said, her voice full of wonder. "She's always so strong and brave. But... I wonder what it's like, being carried like that."
Carol gave her a teasing nudge. "What, you wanna be carried by a guy too?"
Milla blushed, twirling a strand of her hair. "Well... maybe. It looked kind of... nice."
Jewel, Amy, Tangle, and Whisper were sitting nearby, all amused by the spectacle. Jewel shook her head with a smile. "I didn't expect things to turn out this way. This competition is full of surprises."
Tangle leaned back, her legs draped over the arm of her chair. "I love it! I mean, who would've thought we'd see Sonic carrying Lilac like a princess? It's like something out of a romance novel!"
Amy chuckled, though her smile was a little more subdued. She was still getting used to seeing Sonic with Lilac, but deep down, she knew it was for the best. "I wonder what the next event will be like," she mused, trying to focus on the fun instead of her feelings. "This competition is definitely... unpredictable."
Whisper, as quiet as ever, simply nodded in agreement, her eyes glinting with amusement behind her mask. "Hope they're ready for more," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper, but the others heard her and couldn't help but laugh again.
Meanwhile, in another location, the new Team Dark had gathered to discuss the events. Omega, always analytical, was the first to speak. "The orange-furred cat," he began in his mechanical voice, "Mystic. I believe she is an Eggman robot."
Rouge raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "An Eggman robot? Why do you think that?" she asked, leaning forward with interest.
Omega's red eyes blinked in calculated precision. "Her movements. They are too efficient, too calculated. Similar patterns have been observed in Eggman's creations. I estimate a 75% probability she is one of his."
Shadow, standing with his arms crossed, absorbed the information silently. His eyes narrowed. "If she is connected to Eggman, we can't ignore it. Her presence in Shang Mu could mean something bigger is at play."
Corazon, eager for action, crossed her arms as she leaned against the wall. "Should we head there, then? If she's one of Eggman's, we need to investigate before she causes trouble."
Omega's servos whirred as he nodded in agreement. "A thorough investigation is required. I suggest we leave immediately."
Shadow stood up straight, his decision made. "We go to Shang Mu. If Mystic is working with Eggman, we put an end to it before it escalates."
Rouge smirked, her eyes gleaming. "Well, this is getting interesting. Let's see what Shang Mu has in store for us."
In Shang Tu, Neera Li was watching the footage of the race replayed on a large screen, her face beet red from secondhand embarrassment. "I can't believe Lilac let herself get carried like that," she muttered, shaking her head. "This is... humiliating."
Tails, standing next to her, chuckled softly. "Honestly, I'm more impressed they convinced Sonic to go along with it. He's not usually one for... well, this kind of thing," he said, gesturing to the princess-carry part of the race.
Neera groaned, covering her face with one hand. "Lilac's never going to live this down."
The Magister, who had been silently watching the footage as well, smiled ever so slightly. "Perhaps the King has found his Queen," he mused quietly, more to himself than anyone else and only him knowing the truth about Sonic.
Neera looked up at him, her blush deepening. "Don't joke about that, Magister. This isn't a royal romance."
Tails scratched his head, trying to stifle a laugh. "Yeah, but you've gotta admit, they worked well together as a team."
Neera sighed. "That's not the point. Lilac's a warrior, not some... damsel."
The Magister gave a calm nod, though there was still a hint of amusement in his expression. "Indeed. But even warriors need a little help sometimes, Neera."
Tails smiled, his tails flicking behind him. "Well, one thing's for sure—this competition is going to be remembered for a long time."
Meanwhile, Merga and Kit sat together in a quiet room, the sound of the race still playing in the background. Both of them watched with concern as the events unfolded, but their thoughts were focused on different people. Merga's gaze was fixed on Lilac, while Kit's mind was entirely on Surge.
"They must be so embarrassed," Kit said softly, fidgeting with his gloves. "Especially Surge... I mean, being carried like that, in front of everyone..."
Merga sighed, her eyes softening. "Lilac can handle herself, but yes... it's not easy, especially for someone like Surge. She's not the type to take this lightly."
Kit hesitated for a moment, then looked up at Merga. "Do you think I should go see Surge? Make sure she's okay?"
Merga thought for a moment, then shook her head. "Maybe later. Give her some time to calm down. You know how she gets... she's probably still in full murder mode right now."
Kit nodded, though he still looked worried. "I just... I want to make sure she's alright."
Merga gave him a reassuring smile, placing a hand on his head. "You'll get your chance. But trust me, right now's not the time."
As she turned back to the screen, her thoughts drifted to Quill. I'd better check in with him soon, she mused to herself. And make sure he and Surge aren't sucking face again.
High above the tournament grounds, Eggman sat in his stealth airship, watching the events unfold on a large screen, a wide grin plastered across his face. "Well, well, this is more entertaining than I thought it would be," he chuckled. The sight of Surge being carried like a princess and the awkward dynamics between the competitors amused him greatly. Still, something nagged at him. "Surge and Mystic... they're both acting a bit off. Especially Mystic. I know her better than that."
Beside him, Sage stood with her usual calm demeanor, her eyes glowing faintly as she scanned the area. "Father, there's an energy field influencing the competitors," she reported. "It seems to heighten their emotional receptiveness, particularly toward feelings of love."
Eggman raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Really now? Find the source, Sage. If we can harvest that technology, it could prove useful for... my own purposes."
Sage frowned. "I'm sorry, Father, but I can't pinpoint the exact location. There's too much interference."
Eggman waved a hand dismissively, though his tone was oddly gentle. "It's alright, Sage. You did your best."
Turning his attention back to the tournament, Eggman chuckled. "For now, let's leave things to Clutch. As long as my pawns do their job, whatever happens next is on them."
