Shalltear watched the house in front of her with an unimpressed gaze. It was small and looked crooked, due to the shadow of the tree, not because it was crooked at all.
When Gon told her that his aunt took great care of him, she considered her to be a rich woman who had enough money to spare over him. But the reality was far from it. The house in front of her seemed smaller than her expectations. Not too small for Gon, his aunt and his grandma to live together. The nearby houses were not that great as well.
She watched the spiky haired boy taking out a mildly surprised brown-haired woman from the house. When the woman stared at her visage, she looked clearly stunned there.
Before following Gon on this Exam, he pointed how her looks were so exotic that most people would just stare at her. Her crimson eyes and her deathly pale skin were way too eye-catching. Not that Shalltear cared much about them.
This body was crafted by her creator, Lord Peroroncino. She was proud of her looks and did not want to them. But the reason why Gon requested her to hide them was because she hardly looked a human.
In this world, there existed a race of monsters called Magical Beasts. These beasts had innate supernatural properties that marked them unique and dangerous for the human society. Some these beasts were under the constant eyes of the Hunters, in order to maintain the barrier between those who could harm them. Though she had no idea why they needed protection, she would figure it out in future.
However, Shalltear scoffed at that. As she knew that the humans were always like this. As she was still in an unknown world and this human, Gon, seemed an intelligent person to her. So, it was obvious that he had some understandings on how human society would react at her.
Fortunately, her creator had bestowed her with an artifact like he had known that this day would surely come. It was called [Halloween Makeup Kit, which had various makeup items and stuffs for disguising oneself. Though this item had certain limitations as well.
She only used the makeup box to change her skin colour and tone. Her crimson eyes were coloured into azure blue. It was the least amount of change she could put upon herself.
She stepped forward and presented herself to this Aunt Mito.
"Greetings. It is nice to meet you, Miss Mito."
Shalltear had no idea how to greet a human woman. But if she wanted to make better relations with this important person, who might become her chance to participate into this Hunter Exam, then it was hardly a difficult task.
The woman kept staring at her until Gon poked her hand.
"Huh? What?...!" She came out of daze.
"Aunt Mito, you were staring at her way too long. She is greeting you, but you aren't answering." Gon explained.
"Oh, sorry. You are Shalltear, aren't you?!" She asked to confirm.
"Yes. It is my name."
"Woah. You have found a pretty friend, Gon." Mito mumbled while watching the graceful looks and the enchanting beauty Shalltear was.
While Shalltear was confused for being called a friend a mortal being, she wasn't in a bad mood at all. The so called Aunt Mito introduced about herself and welcomed her inside the house.
Being a vampire, she should be incapable of entering other's home, but she was one step above the rest. She was a True Ancestor, a special type of vampire with higher resistances and immunities that other average vampires had in common. Though she still felt disturbed for entering other people's house with any welcome. For that, she was thankful for Mito to welcome her inside.
The house was small, but not cramped. It had natural ventilations and there were strange devices in the house that made her curious. She would ask about them later.
Taking a seat, she sat elegantly. Mito sat in front of her, most likely for the conversation.
For Shalltear, it felt odd to sit inside a mortals house. However, she did not find it uncomfortable nor she saw anything wrong here.
According to Gon, one must fil the form of Hunter Exam before participation. Shalltear was alien here and ignorant on this subject. It would be better if someone do that for her. Mind control was an option, but there were limits of what it could do. She would better save that card for later.
"Gon told me everything." Mito's words pulled her back to reality. She looked serious and a bit angry.
"While I don't know what brought this over you, I can't provide too much help. Only a bit, the rest will be yours." Mito replied as she continued.
"You want to become a Hunter and find your father, right?"
Shalltear nodded. "Exactly. But that's not all. I lack resources and knowledge as well. I am not aware of my surroundings and wish to find some clues of my father by myself."
Mito smiled, but a pained look was right there hidden under her soft smile.
"You are very brave. I will buy the form for you. But I need a solid proof that you won't cheat on my mercy. Can you provide it?"
This was... a tough question.
Shalltear, being a Floor Guardian, had no clue about these things. She had never been in this type of scenario. Until an idea formed in her head.
She fluidly took out a red Ruby out of nowhere. It was a simple gem with no special qualities. Just a piece of beautiful stone.
"This Ruby belongs to my father. He gave it to me on my birthday. Till I pay you back, you can have it." The vampire replied cleverly.
To be honest, she could just mind control her and take it back. But the jewel had no with for her. She just had in her inventory since the first floor was under construction. The Supreme Beings never took it and just let her own it. She did not know though.
"E-Excuse me?! You are giving me such a valuable thing?" Mito stammered as she watched the tomato sized Ruby with widened eyes. The size of the Ruby alone made it worth millions if not more.
"Yeah. You want a proof of my honesty, right? Here it is."
"I said that, but..."
Mito got silenced as she felt ashamed for considering her a pretty looking thief. In her mind, she believed that Shalltear was really missing her father so much so that she could not see the worth of this Ruby. Heck, she could easily but as many Hunter Exam forms as she wanted.
This proved that Shalltear was unaware of monetary values of the world and being an innocent, she had no clue of what she was giving away.
Mito could not help, but felt tears in her eyes.
"You really love your father, huh? I can see that. I will help you as much as I can."
Shallter, on the other hand, just blinked at the sudden shift of emotions, but she shrugged it off and thanked her anyway, "uh thanks...?"
