Title: The Comeback
Pairing: Goku/Chi-Chi
Summary: Chi-Chi decides to meet Goku after he comes back from Yardrat.
.
When he came back, I was determined not to take him back. It sounded absurd how someone would simply want to stay on a planet millions of miles away just for the sake of fighting someone strong. Even if it was who he was, things have changed. It wasn't only about him anymore, he had a family now. But then I looked at our son's eyes, which were exactly like his, and saw how pleading they were. I had no other choice than to talk to him.
I had to admit he still took my breath away, after all these years. I couldn't help but think he looked more handsome than ever, but maybe it was because I hadn't seen him for over a year. Pull yourself together, Chi-Chi, you can't let that soften you. You need to be stronger than it.
"Hi."
"Hi." I tried my very best not to let his usual cheerful tone break me down with a simple greeting. Focus, Chi-Chi.
"Thank you for agreeing to meet me here."
"Well, I couldn't really say no to Gohan's request." I said as coldly as I could, refusing to make eye contact with him. Even so, I could see him flinching from the corner of my eyes.
"Ouch, I suppose I deserve that."
"Damn right, you do!" I snapped and finally looked him in the eyes. The eyes that I loved so much. "You spent a whole year Kami knows where to fight! Not even once you thought of me or Gohan!"
"I'm sorry." He lowered his head and said in a low tone, but still loud enough for me to hear.
"You're sorry? You're sorry?" I repeated loudly. "Sorry won't bring this year back, Goku. Gohan spent months waiting for you to come back. He'd look through the window at the smallest sound he heard outside, only to be disappointed in the end. My heart broke every single time."
"I… I…" He paused, to word his thoughts correctly. "I'm here now."
"For how long? How long until you decide to spend months, or even years, away from us again?"
"I don't know. I don't know what else to say."
"Oh you don't know?" I raised my eyebrows at him, astonished. "This is great."
"I thought you'd be at least a little understanding."
"Understanding? Really?" My voice got louder and louder. "It's hard to do that right now, when you're… you're…"
"When I'm what?"
Somewhere during my speech I got lost on how he looked. It was like the reasons why I was angry at him didn't matter anymore. Before I knew it, I was standing in front of him, with my arms wrapped around his neck.
"I'm what, Chi-Chi?" He repeated, his hands shyly resting on my hips.
"I don't know what happened." I shook my head and removed my hands from around his body, walking away from him. "I shouldn't have done that."
"But you did." Goku held my forearm gently and I looked at him. "Say you don't love me anymore and I'll leave."
"What?" I almost gasped with surprise. Sure, I was angry at him, but still wasn't expecting him to say such words. I opened my mouth a few times to answer, but nothing came out. I simply couldn't speak those words.
"You still do."
"I do not." I said defensively after I regained control over my senses.
"Yes, you do. You can lie to yourself all you want, but I can see it."
"Whatever, Goku." I firmly removed his grip on my arm and walked away from him. "It was clearly a mistake to come here to see you."
"You know, no one understood why I married you in the first place."
"Why are you even bringing this up right now?" I gave him a death glare. Just what was he thinking when he brought this subject again. "I'm fairly aware you thought marriage had something to do with food. You don't have to throw that in my face all the time."
"That's not what… I just think that, when you love someone, you don't just stop. Ever."
"What do you know about love anyway?" I snapped. "All you care about is getting strong and fighting."
"That's such a wrong vision of me. It may have been like that in the beginning, but I do love you and Gohan. I didn't think it would affect you so much."
"But it did. We missed you like crazy."
"I missed you too. Look, I know I'm not the best at showing my emotions, but I truly mean it when I say you two mean a lot to me."
I felt my shoulders relax and a small smile came to my lips. So maybe I was too hard on my judgment. "I think the same. When you love someone, you don't just stop. Ever. Even when people roll their eyes or call you crazy… even then."
"Especially then." He finished my thoughts with one of his usual wide smiles.
And suddenly all the reasons I had to be angry at him simply vanished. I walked to him again and wrapped my arms around his neck, completely aware of it this time. He placed his hand on my waist, and I realized happily he wasn't shy about it this time around.
"It's really annoying that you have such a beautiful smile."
"Funny, you usually say you like it."
"And I do." I confirmed, stroking his hair softly.
"I'm sorry I upset you, it was the last thing I wanted. You know that, don't you?"
"I know. But I think we've talked enough already. How about we seal the deal?"
"Seal the deal?" He looked at me, confused, but it quickly sank in. "Oh, you mean kissing. Yes, we should definitely seal the deal."
I didn't even give time to take the initiative himself, I was already pressing my lips against his as soon as he finished talking. Needless to say, his arms tightened around me and he pulled me closer to his body as our kiss grew deeper. We pulled away from each other after several minutes and let our foreheads touch. I couldn't hide my smile, nor I wanted to.
"You have a beautiful smile too, by the way?"
"Okay, what are your intentions?" I said in a very light tone, making it very clear I was just teasing him.
"Oh, I have too many intentions, believe me." He smiled back to me and pulled away. "But that is bound to last all night, so we might want to go home."
"Straight to the point. Just like how I remember." I put a lock of my hair behind my ear. "Alright, let's go home then."
"Great. I learned this technique that allows me to get to places in seconds. I want to test it."
"Goku."
"Don't worry, Chi-Chi. I spent a year learning it. It's safe, I promise. Here we go." He pressed two fingers against his forehead and we instant transmissioned to our house.
