Veronica Lodge was still adjusting to life at Indiana University, and her dorm room in McNutt Hall had become a strange blend of her old glamorous life in Riverdale and the laid-back, college-town vibe of Bloomington. Her roommate, Kiara Carrera, had proven to be an unexpected ally, full of surprises. The more they hung out, the more Veronica found herself loosening up, trading her usual designer looks for a more casual campus style—though she still wasn't ready to give up her heels.
Today, the two roommates had decided to explore more of the IU campus, especially the notorious residence halls Kiara had been talking about. Veronica had heard rumors about the different buildings and the people who lived there, but nothing beats firsthand experience. They grabbed iced coffees from the campus café, and Kiara led the way, as usual, frisbee in hand.
"Okay, so," Kiara began as they strolled down the main quad, "you're gonna love this tour. Some of these dorms are legendary—both for good reasons and bad. And I know all the gossip."
Veronica raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Gossip? Now you're speaking my language. Spill the tea."
Kiara laughed. "Alright, let's start with Eigenmann Hall. It's mostly known for the party scene—like, the serious party scene. If there's a rager on campus, it's usually coming from there."
They approached the towering dorm building, where a few guys stood on the balcony, blasting music and shouting to passersby. Veronica recognized one of the guys instantly. "Wait a minute—isn't that Reggie Mantle?"
Kiara grinned. "Yep. Reggie's one of the big shots over there. Him and Charlie St. George. They practically run Eigenmann. Every weekend, they throw these massive parties, and, I mean, half the time the cops show up, but no one seems to care."
Veronica shook her head, smiling. "Of course Reggie's a party boy. He was the same in high school. And Charlie… isn't he, like, too nice to be running wild parties?"
Kiara shrugged. "He's got that 'nice guy' reputation, sure. But trust me, once you hit the party scene here, he's a different person. It's like Eigenmann changes you or something."
As they walked past the dorm, one of the guys hanging out leaned over the balcony, spotting them. "Hey! Kiara! You coming by later? Party at eight!" It was Charlie, flashing a charming grin.
Kiara waved him off, laughing. "Maybe! I've got some tour guiding to do first."
Veronica gave Charlie a quick once-over, then leaned toward Kiara. "He's cute, in that innocent way."
"Yeah, but don't let that fool you," Kiara said, sipping her iced coffee. "Next stop: Walnut Grove Center. This one's more chill, but you'll recognize someone there too."
They made their way across campus to the next dorm, a quieter, more modern building. As they approached, a group of students sat outside on the lawn, talking and studying. Kiara pointed to a guy with tousled brown hair, deep in conversation with a few friends.
"That's Clay Jensen," Kiara said casually. "He's one of my friends, lives in Walnut Grove with the more laid-back crowd."
Veronica tilted her head. "Clay Jensen? Isn't he… the serious type? Always caught up in drama back in high school?"
Kiara nodded. "Yeah, but he's mellowed out. Mostly just hangs with his group now. Keeps to himself unless you bring up something he's passionate about—then you'll never hear the end of it."
They approached the lawn, and Clay looked up, recognizing Kiara. "Hey, Kie! What's up? Who's your friend?"
Veronica gave him her signature smirk. "Veronica Lodge. Nice to meet you."
Clay smiled politely, giving her a quick once-over, then turned to Kiara. "You're showing her around campus? Well, if you're ever in the mood for something less chaotic than Eigenmann, come by here. We're having a movie night later—nothing wild, just hanging out."
Kiara shot him a thumbs-up. "Sounds good, Clay. We'll see."
As they left Walnut Grove, Veronica gave Kiara a curious look. "He's cute too. So, is he the 'movie night' guy or the 'secret drama magnet' guy?"
Kiara chuckled. "Definitely a bit of both. But Clay's solid. You'd like him, once you get past the whole serious vibe."
They continued down the path toward the historic Wells Quadrangle. Kiara's face grew more serious as they approached. "Now, Wells Quad… this one's tricky."
Veronica furrowed her brows. "Tricky? How?"
"Wells is where some of the more… complicated people live," Kiara explained as they reached the stone-clad building. "Like Emily Cooper. She's one of those people who's super popular on Instagram, always jet-setting, but she's got a reputation for drama."
Veronica nodded. "I get that. I mean, I am that."
Kiara laughed. "Yeah, but the difference is, Emily somehow always manages to stir up trouble without even trying. And then there's Cassie Howard."
Veronica perked up at the name. "Wait, Cassie? Isn't she the one who always finds herself in, like, messy situations with guys?"
"Yep," Kiara said. "She's super sweet, but, well… complicated love life, to say the least. The real kicker, though, is Bryce Walker."
Veronica's eyes widened. "Bryce? Isn't he, like, a total creep?"
Kiara nodded gravely. "Yeah, he's controversial as hell. There's always drama surrounding him. No one really knows why he's here, but apparently, he's trying to keep a low profile. Not sure that's possible."
Veronica frowned, crossing her arms. "Ugh, that guy gives me the creeps. I hope we never run into him."
Kiara nodded in agreement. "Same. We'll steer clear. Anyway, on to something more fun—let me show you Alpha Kappa Lambda. It's a fraternity full of hot guys who love to party, and I know some of the guys there."
As they walked toward the massive fraternity house, they could hear music blaring from inside. A few guys were tossing a football around on the lawn, and others were gathered around a grill, laughing and drinking.
Kiara pointed to a group of guys standing by the front steps. "That's John B. Routledge, Ezra Fitz, and Christian Hughes. They pretty much run AKL. It's the party frat, but they're also not total idiots, so it's a decent balance."
Veronica gave the trio a once-over. John B., with his messy surfer hair and carefree attitude, Ezra, with his brooding intellectual look, and Christian, with his mysterious, quiet intensity.
"Not bad," Veronica said with a grin. "So, what's the story with these guys? Any drama?"
Kiara smirked. "Oh, tons. John B. is all about adventure and partying, but he's got a complicated history with his dad. Ezra's got that whole mysterious professor vibe—rumor has it he used to date a high school student, which is super sketchy. And Christian? Well, let's just say he's got some dark secrets of his own."
As they walked past, John B. spotted Kiara and waved. "Kie! You coming by for the party tonight?"
Kiara smiled and waved back. "Maybe! We'll see."
Veronica raised an eyebrow at Kiara as they walked away. "You're really popular around here, huh?"
Kiara laughed. "What can I say? I get around. But seriously, it's all about balance. Party when you want, study when you have to, and steer clear of the real drama."
Veronica nodded thoughtfully. "I could get used to this place. It's got just the right mix of chaos and fun."
Kiara grinned. "Welcome to IU, Veronica. You're officially one of us now."
