Veronica Lodge blinked against the soft light filtering through the blinds, groaning as her alarm went off. She reached over to her phone, silencing the incessant beeping. Across the room, Kiara Carrera, her roommate and newfound best friend, was already awake, sitting cross-legged on her bed, scrolling through her phone.

"Morning, V," Kiara said with a smirk, tossing her phone onto her bed. "Ready for the first day of classes?"

Veronica let out a small grunt, burying her face into her pillow. "I was born ready," she mumbled, her voice muffled. "But not this early."

Kiara laughed, hopping off her bed and grabbing a pair of sneakers from the floor. "Come on, you need to get your businesswoman game face on. We can't be late to our first day. You've got the Kelley School of Business, and I've got marine biology to save the planet or whatever."

Veronica peeked out from her pillow, sighing dramatically. "Right. Business school. Power moves. I've got this."

With a final groan of protest, Veronica sat up and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. She stood up and headed to her closet, rummaging through her clothes for something that said both "I'm smarter than you" and "Don't mess with me." After some careful consideration, she settled on a chic black blazer, dark jeans, and sleek heels. She always believed first impressions were everything, especially in business.

Kiara, on the other hand, went for her usual casual but stylish look—ripped jeans, a graphic tee with a marine life print, and her trusty Vans. She was laid-back and effortlessly cool, a complete contrast to Veronica's polished vibe, yet somehow, they balanced each other perfectly.

Veronica glanced at Kiara as they both grabbed their bags. "How are you not nervous? It's our first day."

Kiara shrugged, adjusting the strap of her backpack. "I'm more excited than nervous. I mean, marine biology—this is what I've always wanted to study. Plus, it's just classes. No big deal."

Veronica raised an eyebrow. "You're too chill for your own good. But, I'll admit, I'm ready to take over the business world."

Kiara grinned. "That's the spirit. Let's go crush our first day."

The two girls headed out of McNutt Hall, the campus already buzzing with students rushing to their first classes. The autumn air was cool and crisp, energizing them as they made their way toward their respective buildings.

"Catch you later, Kie," Veronica called as they reached the intersection where they would part ways. "Good luck with the fish."

Kiara laughed. "Thanks. And don't let those business kids intimidate you. You've got this, V."

Veronica strode confidently toward the Kelley School of Business, the imposing building reflecting her own ambition. The moment she stepped inside, she felt a rush of excitement and nerves. She quickly found her classroom, scanning the room for an open seat.

As she made her way down the aisle, her heel caught on something—someone, to be precise. She stumbled, barely catching herself before she face-planted into the nearest desk. Annoyed, she turned to see who the culprit was.

"Reggie Mantle?" Veronica groaned, rolling her eyes as she spotted the familiar face from Riverdale, sitting with his feet stretched out across the aisle, grinning like an idiot.

Reggie looked up, completely unfazed. "Lodge. Fancy seeing you here."

Veronica narrowed her eyes. "Were you just waiting to trip me, or was that an accident?"

Reggie leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. "Wouldn't you like to know? So, you're studying business, huh? Trying to rule the world, as usual?"

Veronica smirked, recovering her composure. "Someone has to. And clearly, it's not going to be you if you keep acting like a child."

Reggie laughed, shrugging. "Hey, I'm here, aren't I? Can't knock the hustle."

Veronica shot him one last look before finding a seat on the other side of the room, determined to avoid further distractions. Reggie Mantle was the last thing she needed to worry about on her first day. As the professor walked in and started the lecture, Veronica zoned in, ready to absorb every word and make her mark in this competitive world.

Meanwhile, over in the Marine Biology department, Kiara was walking into her first lecture, feeling a sense of excitement bubbling inside her. She found a seat in the front row, as she always liked to be close to the action. She had barely settled into her seat when she noticed someone getting up from across the room and moving toward her.

A girl with striking blonde hair and an air of confidence that rivaled Veronica's strutted across the room, her heels clicking loudly on the floor. She dropped into the seat next to Kiara without hesitation, her eyes scanning her for a moment before she finally spoke.

"Madison Montgomery," she said, extending her hand with a perfectly manicured smile. "And you are?"

Kiara blinked, caught off guard by the sudden introduction. "Uh, Kiara. Kiara Carrera."

Madison's smile widened slightly, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Carrera, huh? Cute name. So, marine biology? Are you one of those save-the-whales types?"

Kiara chuckled, shaking her head. "I mean, yeah. I'm here to study marine life and conservation. It's kind of my thing."

Madison tilted her head, giving Kiara a long look before nodding. "Well, at least you've got passion. That's something." She leaned back in her chair, casually crossing her legs. "I'm only here because my parents wanted me to have a backup plan. Personally, I'm more into, you know, fame and power. But saving the ocean or whatever—good for you."

Kiara smiled, unsure whether Madison was complimenting her or mocking her, but decided to go with it. "Thanks, I think. So, what's your major?"

"Fashion and design," Madison said without missing a beat. "Though if I'm being honest, I don't really need school. I've got connections. But hey, I like to keep things interesting."

Before Kiara could respond, the professor entered the room, and Madison's attention shifted away. Kiara glanced over at her new classmate, still unsure what to make of her. Madison was clearly confident, maybe a bit too much so, but there was something intriguing about her.

Back at Kelley, the first lecture was wrapping up, and Veronica was gathering her things when she felt a presence beside her. She turned to see Reggie standing there, leaning casually against the desk.

"You didn't fail on your first day. I'm impressed," Reggie said, grinning.

Veronica shot him a look. "Did you come over here just to be annoying, or is there a point to this?"

Reggie shrugged. "Hey, we go way back. Just checking in. I know you, Lodge. You're already scheming something, aren't you?"

Veronica smiled, the wheels in her head turning. "Maybe I am. Maybe I'm just here to learn. But you, Reggie—why are you here? Are you really trying to make something of yourself?"

Reggie's expression shifted slightly, becoming more serious for a brief moment. "Maybe I am, too. It's a fresh start. Who knows?"

Veronica studied him for a second, surprised by the sincerity in his voice. But before she could ask anything further, he was already flashing that familiar cocky grin.

"See you around, Lodge," Reggie said, winking before turning and heading out the door.

Veronica watched him leave, shaking her head. Reggie Mantle never changed—but maybe there was more to him than met the eye. Either way, she had bigger things to focus on.

Later that afternoon, Kiara and Veronica met back up outside their dorm. Kiara looked energized, while Veronica seemed lost in thought.

"How was business class?" Kiara asked, a smirk playing on her lips. "Crush any spirits yet?"

Veronica rolled her eyes. "Reggie Mantle's in my class."

Kiara laughed. "Of course he is. How's that going?"

"About as well as you'd expect," Veronica replied. "He's still the same annoying Reggie, but… I don't know. He seemed different, like maybe he's actually taking this seriously."

"People can surprise you," Kiara said, smiling. "And speaking of surprises, I met someone interesting in my class today. Madison Montgomery. She's… intense."

Veronica raised an eyebrow. "Madison Montgomery? Sounds like trouble."

Kiara nodded. "Yeah, she's got that whole 'I'm better than you' vibe, but she's kind of fascinating. I think I'll survive, though."

Veronica smiled, linking arms with Kiara as they headed back to McNutt. "Well, here's to surviving our first day of classes. Only a few hundred more to go."

Kiara laughed. "We've got this. Marine biology, business, and all the drama that comes with it."

As they walked back to their dorm, the campus buzzing with activity around them, both girls knew that this was just the beginning. Their college adventure was only starting, and with characters like Reggie and Madison in the mix, there was no telling what kind of drama was on the horizon.
