It was late at night in McNutt Hall, and the energy that had crackled through the evening was finally starting to die down. After the long, chaotic night at the Alpha Kappa Lambda frat party, Veronica Lodge and Kiara Carrera were exhausted, ready to put the evening behind them. Their room, a cozy little haven in the vastness of campus life, offered the quiet they both craved after dealing with the drama, especially Sarah Cameron's unpredictable behavior.
Veronica tossed her black blazer onto the back of a chair and sighed as she slid under the covers. "I honestly can't believe Sarah," she muttered, pulling her comforter up to her chin. "One minute, she's making out with John B. in front of everyone, and the next, she's trying to pick a fight with us."
Kiara, already tucked into her bed on the lower bunk, rubbed her eyes tiredly. "I know. But at this point, I've learned to expect the unexpected with her. Let's just get some sleep. We've survived today—barely."
Veronica smirked, sitting up and looking around. "Where is Sarah, anyway? Should we be worried she'll come back and pick up where she left off?"
Kiara snorted. "She's probably still at the party, or off with John B. I'm just hoping she'll crash somewhere else tonight."
Deciding they could use the break, Veronica climbed up to the top bunk—which technically belonged to Sarah, but she wasn't there to use it. Veronica didn't care, as her own bottom bunk felt cramped and confining. "If Sarah doesn't want the top bunk tonight, I'll gladly take it. It's way more spacious up here."
Kiara giggled softly. "I mean, technically, that's her spot, but hey, finders keepers, right? Besides, she's probably not sober enough to care where she sleeps tonight."
As they finally started to relax, the lights dimmed and the room grew quiet. The gentle hum of campus nightlife outside faded into the background. Sleep was finally within reach—until the sound of the door opening shattered the silence.
In the dim light from the hall, Sarah Cameron appeared at the doorway, her silhouette swaying slightly. She was clearly still in party mode, her hair tousled, eyes narrowing as she took in the sight of the two girls already in bed.
And then she saw Veronica—sleeping on her upper bunk.
"Excuse me?" Sarah's voice was sharp, cutting through the room like a knife. "What the hell are you doing on my bed, Veronica?"
Veronica stirred, blinking blearily as she sat up, squinting at Sarah. "Sarah, it's late. I'm just trying to sleep."
Sarah, her face twisted with irritation, stormed into the room, standing at the foot of the bunk. "That's my bed. You think you can just take over my space like you run the place? Newsflash, Lodge: this isn't Riverdale. Get out."
Veronica rolled her eyes, groaning as she rubbed her temples. "Oh, please, Sarah. You weren't even here when I went to bed. I figured you wouldn't mind."
"Well, I do mind," Sarah snapped, her hands on her hips. "This is my bed. So, either you get off, or I make you."
Kiara, who had been watching from her lower bunk, sighed deeply before sitting up. "Sarah, seriously? It's 2 a.m. Just let it go. Veronica's tired. You're tired. Let's not make this a thing."
Sarah, not backing down, folded her arms. "Oh, it's already a thing. I don't care how tired she is—she's not sleeping in my bed."
Veronica glanced down at Kiara, her patience wearing thin. "Kie, do you see what I'm dealing with here? This is ridiculous."
Kiara, trying to keep the peace, ran a hand through her hair. "Sarah, if you want the bed that badly, take it. But let's not do this passive-aggressive, 'I'm gonna fight you' thing. Just take the bed and go to sleep."
Sarah's eyes darted between the two of them before she finally huffed, throwing her hands up in exasperation. "Fine. Whatever. I'll take the damn bed. But don't think this is over, Veronica."
Veronica, clearly unbothered, raised her eyebrow as she climbed down from the top bunk. "Oh, trust me, I didn't think it was. You're way too dramatic to let anything go."
Kiara stifled a laugh as Veronica crawled back into her own bed on the bottom bunk. Sarah, still fuming, climbed up to the top bunk, clearly not pleased with how things had gone.
The room went quiet again, the tension hanging in the air like thick smoke. Veronica turned to Kiara, her voice barely a whisper. "This girl is unbelievable."
Kiara smiled in the dark. "Welcome to the chaos that is Sarah Cameron. Just ignore her, V. She loves the attention."
Minutes passed, and the girls finally started to drift off again, the promise of sleep just within their grasp—until a new sound filled the room.
Sarah, on the top bunk, began muttering under her breath, loud enough for Veronica and Kiara to hear. She sighed dramatically, turned over in her bed with exaggerated movements, and even let out the occasional groan of annoyance.
Veronica opened one eye, glaring up at the top bunk. "Are you serious right now?"
Kiara, too, was now fully awake, staring up at the ceiling. "Oh my god."
Sarah, clearly trying to get a rise out of them, made a loud, exasperated sound. "Ugh. Some of us are trying to sleep, you know."
Veronica sat up, throwing her blanket off. "We're trying to sleep too, Sarah! If you're going to make this a thing, at least be honest about it."
Kiara let out a soft groan, burying her face in her pillow. "This is so high school."
Sarah rolled over again, making a show of it. "You know what? This room's too small for three people. Especially when one of them thinks they're better than everyone else."
Veronica exchanged a look with Kiara, her patience now completely gone. "Wow, Sarah. Really leaning into the 'bitchy roommate' stereotype tonight, aren't you?"
Sarah didn't respond immediately, but after a moment, she made another loud, overly dramatic sigh. "You know what? You're not worth my energy, Veronica."
Kiara, fed up with the back-and-forth, sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Can we all just be mature for five seconds? Please?"
Veronica smirked, looking up at the top bunk. "I think we passed the maturity exit about ten miles ago."
Kiara stifled a laugh again. "I know, right?"
Sarah, realizing she wasn't getting the rise she wanted, let out one last dramatic huff before finally going quiet. The room settled again, and after a few minutes, the tension began to fade.
Veronica glanced over at Kiara, giving her a small smile. "I think we survived the storm."
Kiara smiled back. "Barely. But yeah."
The two girls lay back down, the tension still hanging in the air but fading with each passing minute. Despite the drama, they knew they'd made it through another round with Sarah—and in the world of dorm life, that counted as a victory.
Eventually, the room grew quiet again, and the soft sounds of sleep filled the space. Kiara and Veronica exchanged one last amused glance before drifting off, knowing that tomorrow would bring another round of college life—and, undoubtedly, more drama.
