You and Dean were sitting at a table on a restaurant's patio enjoying some coffee while Sam was using the payphone nearby. "Your, uh, half-caf double vanilla latte is getting cold over here, Frances." Dean teased as he typed away on the laptop.

"Bite me," Sam retorted as he sat down.

"So did you find anything?" you asked taking a sip of your iced coffee.

"I had 'em check the FBI's missing-persons data bank, no John Does fitting dad's description. I even ran his plates for traffic violations." Sam answered.

"Sam, I'm telling you, I don't think dad wants to be found." Dean stated. "Check this out. It's a news item out ofPlains Courierin Ankeny, Iowa. It's only about one-hundred miles from here." Dean pushed the laptop towards Sam so he could take a look at it.

""The mutilated body was found near the car, parked on nine-mile road."" Sam recited as he read the article.

"Keep reading," Dean said he took a sip of his coffee.

""Authorities are unable to provide a realistic description of the killer. The sole eyewitness, whose name has been withheld is quoted as saying the attacker was invisible."" Sam continued.

"Could be something of interest to us." you commented as you looked over the article yourself.

"Or nothing. A freaked-out witness who didn't see anything doesn't mean it's the Invisible Man." Sam stated.

"But what if it is?" Dean questioned. "Dad would check it out." So, you guys decided to go investigate Ankeny, Iowa.

The first place you guys wanted to check was the victim's house. Dean parked on the side of the street in front of the Frat house the victim stayed at. When you got out of the Impala you noticed a couple of young college boys working on an old-fashioned car, but they stopped working to look at you three. "One more time, why are we here?" Sam asked as you and the boys walked toward the students that were working.

"Victim lived here." Dean explained as your group stopped when you reached the frat boys' car. ''Nice wheels. We're your fraternity brothers from Ohio. Oh, and she is a friend of ours." Dean explained as he pointed to you and Sam. "We're new in town. Transfers. Looking for a place to stay." The students agreed to letting Sam and Dean staying with them but not you. So, while Sam and Dean investigated the victim's house you decided to check out the eyewitness who saw him get killed.

The eyewitness's name was Lori Sorenson, you went to the dorm where she lived and used the same cover as Sam and Dean to get into the dorm. It turned out she was a freshman in college whose family lived in town, and she was the daughter of the local reverend.

Once you got the name of the church you decided to head over there, when you got there they were holding a service for the victim so you quietly sat down in the back making sure to not draw any attention to yourself. "Our hearts go out to the family of a young man who perished. And my personal prayers of thanks go out as well because I believe he died trying to protect my daughter and now, as time heals all our wounds, we should reflect on what this tragedy means to us as a church-" The reverend spoke in honor of the boy who died when the door to the church slammed shut. You turned around to see Sam and Dean walking into the room when everybody looked at them for a second. When the boys noticed you they decided to sit next to you until the reverend finished his sermon. "-as a community, and as a family. The loss of a young person is particularly tragic. A life unlived is the saddest of passings. So please, let us pray. For peace, for guidance, and for the power to protect our children." You noticed everyone else bowing their heads to pray and you joined in to honor the victim.

Once the service was over you and the brothers looked for Lori just outside the church. You waited until she had finished talking to her friend before you approached guys walked over to Lori as her friend walked away. "Are you Lori?" Sam asked as you and Dean joined him.

"Yeah," she replied as she turned around.

"My name is Sam this is my brother, Dean, and our friend Y/N." Sam said introducing you guys to her. Both you and Dean greeted her as Sam continued talking to her. "We just transferred here, uh, to the university."

"I saw you inside." she stated.

"We don't wanna bother you. We just heard about what happened." Sam continued.

"We wanted to say how sorry we were." Dean added in.

"I kinda know what you're going through. I-I saw someone get hurt once. It's something you don't forget." Sam explained trying to give Lori some comfort. He must have been referring to Jessica's death. Then the reverend walked up next to Lori.

"Dad, um, this is Sam, Dean, and Y/N. They're new students." She said introducing you guys to her father.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir. I must say, that was an inspiring sermon." Dean greeted as he shook her father's hand.

"Thank you very much. It's so nice to find young people who are open to the Lord's message." Her father said in response to Dean, while Dean chuckled and glanced at Sam for a second.

"Listen, uh, we're new in town, actually, and, um we're looking for a , uh, ahem, church group." Dean explained as he started to walk away with her father. You decided to follow Dean so Sam could have some alone time with Lori. You figured maybe he could get her to open up, since he could relate to what she was going through.

After talking to Lori and her father you guys hit up the local library for information on what happened and the town's history. "So you believe her?" Dean asked as you guys walked through the library looking for a certain section.

"I do," Sam replied as he followed Dean with his hands in his pockets.

"Yeah, I think she's hot too." Dean commented.

"No, man, there's something in her eyes. And listen to this, she heard scratching on the roof." Sam explained as Dean turned right down an aisle of books. "Found the bloody body suspended upside down over the car.

"Bloody body suspended, that sounds like-" Dean started to say as they stopped to look at each other.

"Yeah, I know. The Hook Man Legend." Sam finished.

"Hook Man? Don't tell me he has a hook for a hand, does he?" You asked.

"Yeah, it's one of the most famous urban legends. Sam, you don't think we're dealing withtheHook Man do you?" Dean asked.

"Every urban legend has a source. A place where it all began." Sam suggested.

"But what about the phantom scratches, and the tire punctures and the invisible killer?" Dean asked.

"Well, maybe the Hook Man isn't a Man at all. What if it's some kind of spirit?" You suggested. Both brothers paused and looked at you for a second as they gave it some thought. You guys decided to ask the clerk for all of the arrest records dating back to 1851. You sat down at one of the unoccupied tables in the library and waited for her to bring you the files.

"Here you go." The woman said as she set a box of files on your table. "Arrest records going back to 1851." Then she set a second box of files on the table next to the first one."

"Thanks." Dean said as he pulled the first box closer to him to open it.

"Okay, yeah." She said as she walked away Dean stole a glance at her back.

"So this is how you spent four good years of your life, huh?" Dean asked as he opened the first box of files.

"Welcome to higher education." Sam said as he rubbed his hands together and opened the second box of files. It felt like hours going through all of the files in the boxes, each of you had your own stack of folders to read through. Every once in a while one of you would stretch your legs and walk around or stand for a bit. Until finally you found something of interest.

"Hey, check this out." You said as you called the boys over to show them the file you found. "1862, a preacher named Jacob Carnes was arrested for murder. Looks like he was so angry over the red-light district in town that one night he killed thirteen prostitutes. Uh, right here: "Some of the deceased were found in their beds, sheets soaked with blood, others suspended upside down from the limbs of trees as a warning against sins of the flesh."

"Get, this. The murder weapon? Looks like the preacher lost his hand in an accident. Had it replaced with a silver hook." Dean pointed out a picture of a hook on the page in the file you were holding, suddenly you noticed how close Dean was to you leaning down close to your face to examine the file. It brought back memories of when he held you in St. Louis causing you to blush a bit, you tilted your head down so they wouldn't notice you blushing. Thankfully they were too engrossed with the file to notice your face.

"Look where all this happened." Sam said.

"Nine-mile road." Dean noticed.

"Same place where the frat boy was killed." Sam pointed out as Dean shifted his hands to his pockets and took a step back.

"Nice job, Dr. Venkman. Let's check it out." Dean said as you guys cleaned up and put the files away.

Your next stop was nine-mile road where the victim was killed, it was almost pitch black outside as Dean parked the Impala right next the sign that read "Nine-mile road" while Sam scanned the area around the car with his flashlight. Then Dean shut off the car and the three of you got out to investigate the area. Dean opened the trunk and grabbed two shotguns, one for you and one Sam. "Here you go, careful Y/N shotguns can have a bit of recoil when you shoot so brace yourself before you fire." Dean warned you, showing you how to handle the shotgun.

"Thanks I'll keep that in mind." You said as you took your gun form him.

"If it is a spirit, buckshot won't do much good." Sam commented as he took his gun.

"Yeah. Rock salt." Dean retorted as he pulled out special bullets filled with rock salt. You and Sam each grabbed some bullets from Dean and you loaded your gun.

"Huh, salt being a spirit deterrent," Sam replied as he loaded his gun and Dean slung what looked like rope his over his shoulder.

"Yeah. It won't kill him, but it'll slow him down." Dean said as he closed the trunk and started walking down the road.

"That's pretty good." Sam complimented as he followed Dean down the road. "You and dad think of this?"

"I told ya, you don't have to be a college graduate to be a genius." Dean smiled until he suddenly stopped and looked ahead. Something felt off all of a sudden Sam raised his shotgun and looked around, while you readied yours in case it was needed. "Over there. Over there" Dean whispered directing Sam where to point his shotgun. You tensed up a bit when you heard the sound of a twig snapping in the bushes in front of you three.

"Put the gun down now!" A man yelled as he rushed out of the bushes with a gun pointed at you guys, you tucked your gun towards the ground by your side so he wouldn't notice it as easily. "Now!" Once you guys realized he was a sheriff you guys put your hands up. "Put your hands behind your heads!"

"Wait! Wai- okay, okay." Dean cried out as you all dropped to the ground putting your shotguns at your feet and putting your hands behind your heads as quickly as you could.

"Now, get down on your knees. Come on, do it. On your knees." He said gruffly as he kept his gun aimed at you three. "Now get down on your bellies. Come on, do it!"

"Well, they had the guns." Dean complained as you all laid on the ground.

By the time you guys were able to be released from the sheriff's office it had already become day again. "Saved your as*es," Dean stated rather proudly as he lead the group out of the office. "Talked the sheriff down to some fines. Dude, I'm Matlock."

"But how?" Sam asked you guys walked up the sidewalk.

"Told him you were a couple of dumb-as* pledges, and that we were hazing you guys." Dean explained.

"What about the shotguns?" you asked following them.

"I said that you were hunting ghosts, and that spirits were repelled by rock salt. You know, typical Hell Week prank." Dean replied.

"And he believed you?" Sam scoffed looking at Dean in disbelief.

"Well, you guys look like a couple of dumb-as* pledges." Dean commented. As you guys reached the Impala you saw a group of cops rushing out of the station, getting into their cruisers and driving off in a rush.

You guys followed the cruisers and slowly pulled up to the scene of a crime to see what was going on. As you drove by you guys made eye contact with Lori the eyewitness of the first murder who was sitting on the back edge of an ambulance with a towel wrapped around her. Dean decided to drive around to the backside of the house so you guys could sneak in the back way and figure out what happened. He parked the Impala along the street and jumped on top of the small stone wall into the backyard, you and Sam followed him. You walked through some bushes to the front of the garage where you heard some cops talking but you couldn't hear what they were saying. Dean started walking closer to the front of the house with you behind him and Sam behind you.

"Why would the Hook Man come here?" Sam asked quietly as you all were hunched down into the side of the house. "This is a long way from Nine-mile road."

"Well, maybe he's not haunting the scene of his crime. Maybe it's about something else." Dean suggested as you guys tried to get closer you saw two girls walking out from inside the house, Dean suddenly pushed you against the side of the house holding him arm in front of you, and as he did that Sam leaned back against the house as well so you three could stay out of view. "Dude, sorority girls." Dean started smiling towards the girls. Dean was too busy admiring those girls to notice you and Sam climbing the side of the house to get to the second floor. Sam had given you a lift on his shoulders so you could climb up first. Thankfully you were only about one-hundred and forty-ish pounds and Sam was a lot stronger than he looked. "Think we'll see a naked pillow fight? Nah." Dean mumbled then he turned around to notice you already on the second floor balcony with Sam climbing up behind you. Dean decided to give Sam a boost up and you watched them from the balcony above. You stepped back so Sam could join you up there and you two watch the scene below you as cops walked girls out of the house. Dean finally joined you two and Sam was opening a window, and you three climbed inside. "D'oh, sorry," Dean said he also landed on Sam as he jumped through the window.

"Hey, be quiet." Sam growled as he barely dodged Dean. You followed them inside, and closed the window as Sam checked to see if anyone was still around.

"Me be quiet? You be quiet." Dean growled back. Thankfully you guys ended in the closet of the room that was crime scene there was yellow tape around the bed with blood soaked into the sheets, and blood carved into the wall that said "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light" with a symbol carved under it that you didn't recognize.

"Aren't you glad you didn't on the light?" Sam recited as he read what was on the wall. "That's right out of the legend."

"Yeah, that's classic Hook Man, all right. And it's definitely a spirit." Dean commented as he gestured to his nose.

"Yeah," Sam agreed.

"How to you know that?" you asked

"If you stiff the air you can smell the scent of ozone which means a spirit has been here recently." Dean explained.

"Oh," you mumbled as you stiff the air around you.

"But I've never smelled ozone this strong before." Sam stated as Dean looked out the window. "Hey, come here. Does that look familiar to you?" Sam asked Dean as he pointed to the symbol under the writing. Once you guys were done in the house you left the way you came and went back to the three of you were sitting on the hood of the Impala with Dean in the middle and you and Sam on either side of him. Sam was holding the file you found yesterday and pointed to the symbol on the silver hook. " It's the same symbol. Seems like it is the spirit of Jacob Carnes."

"All right, well, let's find the dude's grave, salt and burn the bones, and put him down." Dean said as he nodded his head and looked around aimlessly.

""After execution, Jacob Carnes was laid to rest in Old North Cemetery, in a unmarked grave." Sam read as he smacked the page.

"Super." Dean grumbled as you guys got up to get in the car.

"Okay, so we know it's Jacob Carnes, but we still don't know where he'll manifest next." Sam said as he got to his side of the car and Dean grabbed a slip off of the Impala's front windshield. "Or why."

"I'll take a wild guess about why. I think your little friend Lori has something to do with this." Dean suggested as you guys got into the car.

You guys decided the best way to find Lori or to get information about her was to attend one of the college parties. It was way past dark and there was loud rock music playing in the background and lights flashing around you. It felt and looked more like a club or bar than a college party. After getting hit on and offered drinks one too many times you decided to stick with Sam and/or Dean while you looked around. You and Sam were looking for Lori when Dean came up to you. "Man, you guys have been holding out on me. This college thing is awesome!" Dean said as he smiled and looked around at all of the pretty college girls.

"This wasn't really my experience." Sam said as he held a rolled up piece of paper in his hands.

"Oh, let me guess. Library, studying, straight A's. What a geek. All right, did you do your homework?" Dean teased as he continued to look around.

"Yeah, it was bugging me, right? So, how is the Hook Man tied up with Lori?" Sam questioned out loud as Dean pulled him along and you followed them. "So I think I came up with something." Sam said as he handed Dean the rolled up paper.

""1932, Clergyman Arrested for Murder."" Dean read off the paper as you guys walked through the house. ""1967, Seminarian Held in Hippie Rampage.""

"There's a pattern here." Sam stated as he pointed to the page. "In both cases, the suspect was a man of religion who openly preached against immorality, and then found himself wanted for killings he claimed were the work of an invisible force. Killings carries out, now get this, with a sharp instrument."

"What's the connection to Lori?" You asked as you guys stepped outside onto the porch.

"A man of religion, who openly preaches against immorality?" Sam hinted. "Except maybe this time instead of saving the whole town he's just trying to save his only daughter."

"Reverend Sorenson. You think he's summoning the spirit?" Dean asked.

"Maybe." Sam said. "Or you know how a poltergeist can haunt a person instead of a place?"

"Yeah, the spirit latches on to the reverend's repressed emotions, feeds off them. Yeah. Okay." Dean agreed as he nodded his head.

"Without the reverend ever even knowing it." Sam said.

"Either way, you should keep an eye on Lori tonight." Dean suggested.

"What about you and Y/N?" Sam asked as Dean sighed looking back in on the party.

"We're gonna go see if we can find that unmarked grave." Dean said as he walked away and you followed him.

You and Dean drove to Old North Cemetery, it was the first time you were able to ride up front in the Impala, which was a nice change of scenery. Once you two got you there you used your flashlights to try and find Carnes' grave. Each of you carried a shovel with you in case you did find it. The cemetery was almost too quiet like it had a deathly silence to it. Suddenly you both stopped when you heard rustling nearby. "Here we go." Dean mumbled to himself as he started walking away from you. You followed him to see if he had found something. He went down a slight incline and stopped at a grave that had the same symbol that was on the wall and on the hook engraved in it. You and Dean started digging the grave up it took a while even with two people. He decided to throw his jacket off onto the ground nearby to reveal a form-fitting gray t-shirt that he had on underneath. At some point you got sweaty as well and removed your Hooded Ripstop Jacket. "That's it. Next time, I get to watch the cute girl's house." Dean complained as he grunted and panted while digging his side of the grave.

"Fine, if there is ever any cute guys I get dibs on watching their house," you quipped causing him to chuckle. Finally Dean hit a wooden coffin, you stepped back so he could break it open.

"Hello, preacher." Dean said as you both tossed your shovels out of the hole. You grabbed the salt and lighter fluid for Dean and tossed some into the grave so he could light the remains and destroy Carnes. You watched as Dean lit a match and tossed it in the grave "Goodbye, preacher." The bones burned and smoke swelled up from the grave.

When you and Dean got back to town in the morning you found out that Reverend Sorenson was attacked by the Hook Man, so you and Dean rushed to the hospital to meet up with Sam and find out what happened. When you arrived on the floor the Reverend as being held on their were officers standing guard. Dean tried to get you two through the officers wouldn't let you pass. "Hold on there you two." one of the officers said stopping Dean from passing

"Oh, it's all right. I'm with him. That's my brother. That's- Hey, brother!" Dean called trying to get Sam's attention. You waited patiently behind Dean to through since it was no use for both of you to try and squeeze past the officers. Once Sam noticed you two you and Dean both smiled and waved at Sam. "Thanks." Dean and you said and the officers finally let you through. "You okay?" Dean asked Sam as you guys met up.

"Yeah," Sam replied.

"What the hell happened?" Dean asked as you guys walked down the hall.

"Hook Man," Sam answered.

"You saw him?" You asked.

"Damn, right!" Sam growled. "Why didn't you guys torch the bones?"

"What are you talking about? We did." Dean replied as you guys stopped walking. "You sure it's the spirit of Jacob Carnes?"

"Sure as hell looked like him. And that's not all. I don't think the spirit is latching on to the reverend." Sam suggested.

"Well, yeah. The guy wouldn't send the Hook Man after himself" Dean stated.

"I think it's latching on to Lori." Sam explained. "Last night, she found out that her father is having an affair with a married woman."

"So, what?" Dean wondered.

"So, she's upset about it." Sam stated. "She's upset about the immorality of it. She told she was raised to believe if you do something wrong you get punished." Sam explained.

"Okay, so she's conflicted." you said. "And the spirit of Preacher Carnes is latching on to her repressed emotions and maybe he's doing the punishing?"

"Right." The brothers agreed in unison.

"Rich comes on too strong, Taylor tries to make her into a party girl, dad has an affair." Sam continued.

"Remind me not to piss this girl off." Dean commented. "But we burned those bones. We buried them in salt. Why didn't that stop him?"

"You guys must have missed something." Sam stated.

"No. We burned everything in that coffin." Dean retorted.

"Did you get the hook?" Sam asked.

"The hook?" you and Dean ask in unison.

"It was the murder weapon, and in a way, it was a part of him." Sam concluded.

"So like the bones, the hook is a source of his power." Dean spoke.

"So if we find the hook..." you started to say.

"We stop the Hook Man." All three of you say in unison as you smile at each other.

Now you guys had to return to the library to find out what happened to the hook when Carnes was buried. You all were flipping old history books about the town when Dean spoke up. "Here's something I think." Dean mumbled as he was chewing on his pen cap. "Logbook, Iowa State Penitentiary. "Carnes, Jacob. Personal effects disposition thereof."

"Does it mention the hook?" Sam asked as he and you looked over at Dean's book.

"Yeah, maybe." Dean answered as he continued reading. ""Upon execution all earthly items shall be remanded to the prisoner's house of worship, St. Barnabus Church.""

"Isn't that where Lori's father preaches?" Sam asked looking over at Dean.

"Yeah." Dean replied looking at Sam.

"Where Lori lives?" Sam asked.

"Maybe that's why the Hook Man's haunting reverends and reverends' daughters for the past two-hundred years." You suggested as they both looked at you.

"Yeah, but if the hook were there, don't you think someone might have seen it? I mean, a- A bloodstained silver-handled hook?" Sam wondered.

"Check the church records." Dean said as he put his pen down and got up and got books containing the church's records.

""St. Barnabus, donations, 1862. Received: silver-handled hook from state penitentiary. Reforged."" Sam read as he sighed and looked up from his book. Dean was now relaxing in a lounge chair a few feet way while you and Sam shared a table. "They melted it down. Made it into something else." Since you and the boys couldn't find anymore information about the hook you decided to just go the church and try and find it for yourselves.

When Dean drove the Impala to the church night had set again. "All right, we can't take any chances." Dean spoke as you guys walked up to the church doors. "Anything silver goes into the fire."

"I agree." Sam said as you nodded your head. "So , Lori's still at the hospital. We'll have to break in."

"All right." Dean said. "Take your pick, Y/N you're with me."

"I'll take the house." Sam replied as he walked away to investigate the house.

"Hey, stay out of her underwear drawer," Dean joked as you and him walked over to the church.

Dean started a fire in a oven with salt so you two could burn anything silver you could find."I got everything that even looked silver." Sam said as he walked down the steps into the basement you were in to toss some stuff into the fire.

"Better safe than sorry." Dean said as all of you started tossing stuff into the fire. Suddenly you all froze when you heard the floorboard creaking above you. "Move, Move!" Dean said and you and Sam followed him upstairs. As he opened the basement door he readied his shotgun and pointed it out in front of him. Sitting on one of the wooden benches and Lori crying. Dean took you back downstairs to continue burning silver while Sam talked to Lori. After a few minutes of silence you and Dean started hearing screaming and a bunch of racket. Dean grabbed his gun and ran upstairs with you hot on his heels. Once you guys found Sam and Lori Dean aimed his shotgun at the ghost. "Sam! Drop!" Dean yelled as Sam moved and Dean shot the Hook Man.

"I thought we got all the silver." Sam said and he panted.

"So did I,"Dean said looking around.

"Then why is he still here?" Sam asked.

"Well, maybe we missed something." Dean suggested as you guys looked around. That's when you noticed the silver cross hanging around Lori's neck.

"That chain around Lori's neck." you pointed out making the boys look at Lori.

"Why do you want this? My- My Father gave it to me." She explained looking down at her neck.

"Where'd your dad get it?" Dean asked.

"He said it was a church heirloom. He gave it to me for school." She explained.

"Is it silver!?" Sam asked.

"Yes!" She cried. Then Sam pulled it off her as you all noticed the Hook Man carved into the hallway's wall a few feet behind you.

"Give me the chain, I'll go burn it!" You yelled and the brothers nodded at you. Sam tossed you the chain so he and Dean could protect Lori. You sprinted down the hallway as fast as you could as you heard Dean's shotgun echo, through the church and back into the basement. Then you threw the chain into the oven and watched it melt in the fire. Then you ran back upstairs to check on the others. Thankfully the Hook Man was gone and the three of them were alright.

The next day the cops arrived and you and Dean were being questioned by the sheriff. "And you two saw him too, the man with the hook?" The sheriff asked with his hands on his hips.

"Yes, we told you we all saw him. We- We fought him off, and then he ran." Dean explained to the sheriff.

"And that's all?" the sheriff questioned.

"Yeah, that's all." Dean responded nodding his head.

"Listen you, your friend, and your brother-," the sheriff started to say and he point his finger in Dean's face.

"Oh, don't worry we'll be leaving town." Dean interrupted as you two walked away from the sheriff. You two got into the car and waited for Sam to say goodbye to Lori. "That was some quick thinking Y/N, good job noticing the chain on Lori's neck."

"Thanks I've always been good as noticing little details like that, it's a trait I developed during my time in college." You explained as you smiled at each other. It felt like you and Dean have gotten closer on the last couple of hunts, nothing special but it was like he trusted you now and accepted you as part of the group. After Sam said goodbye he joined you two in the car.

"We could stay." Dean suggested. You couldn't tell if he was serious or not though. Sam didn't respond so Dean just started the Impala and drove away leaving Lori in the rear view mirror.
