You and the brothers decided to stop for some food at "Home Cooking" a local diner in the town you were passing through. Dean was reading the newspaper, while Sam was working on the laptop, and you were reading John's journal. "All right, guys. Not a decent lead in all of Nebraska. What do you got, Sam?" Dean asked Sam as he folded the newspaper up.

"Well, I've been scanning Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota...Here." Sam mumbled as he typed away on the laptop. "A woman in Iowa fell ten thousand feet from an airplane and survived."

"Sounds more likeThat'sIncredible! than, uh,TwilightZone." Dean commented.

"Yeah." Sam murmured.

"Hey, you know, we, uh, could just keep headin' east. New York. Upstate. You could stop by and see Sarah again. Eh?" Dean suggested to Sam. "She's a cool chick, man. Smokin'." Dean whistled. "You two seemed pretty friendly. What do you say?"

"Yeah, I don't know." Sam disagreed. "Maybe someday. But in the meantime, we got a lot of work to do, guys. And you know that, Dean."

"Yeah, you're right." Dean nodded.

"What else do you have?" You asked Sam, changing the subject.

"Ah. Manning, Colorado. A local man by the name of Daniel Elkins was found mauled in his home." Sam shared with you and Dean.

"Wait, Elkins, I remember seeing that name," You muttered as you flipped through the journal.

"Doesn't ring a bell. Sounds like the police don't know what to think. At first they said it was some sort of bear attack. And now they found signs of robbery." Sam went on.

"Here. Take a look at this." You said finding the page on Elkins and showing it to Sam and Dean.

"You think it's the same Elkins?" Sam asked you.

"She's right, it's a Colorado area code." Dean pointed out.

You guys then drove up to Manning, Colorado to investigate Elkin's death. By the time you guys reached his cabin it was well past dark. Sam picked the lock while you shined the flashlight for him, and Dean kept his gun at the ready just in case. "Looks like the maid didn't come today." Dean mentioned as you looked around there were books and papers scattered everywhere.

"Hey, there's salt over here." Sam called from the front door. "Right inside the door."

"You mean, like, protection-against-demons salt, or, uh, "Oops, I spilled the popcorn" salt?" Dean half asked and half joked.

"Heh, I wish it was the latter." You mumbled as you scanned the books and papers on the table for anything useful.

"It's clearly a ring." Sam shared.

"Any chance, Elkins was a hunter?" You asked them.

"Definitely." Dean answered as he read Elkins' journal and Sam joined you and Dean in the room.

"That looks a hell of a lot like Dad's." Sam observed as he read it over Dean's shoulder.

"Yeah, except this dates back to the 'sixties." Dean pointed out. While you were looking around you glanced outside the window real quick and thought you saw a shadow standing in the trees, but when you looked a second time it was gone. So, you just blew it off. While they continued reading the journal you decided to investigate the rest of the rooms. You found a small hallway and walked down it to find a small room that looked like his office. The room was torn up like there were signs of a struggle. You felt a cold breeze and you looked up to see that the skylight in the ceiling was shattered.

"Hey, guys!" You shouted back so you could show them what you found. You carefully stepped deeper into the office trying not to step on the debris and broken stuff scattered across the room.

"Whatever attacked him, it looks like there was more than one." Sam figured as he and Dean looked up at the broken window.

"Looks like he put up a hell of a fight too." Dean mumbled as he shined his flashlight around the room.

"Yeah." You agreed as you looked around the desk. That's when you noticed a wooden box on the floor was once held a gun and some bullets in it.

"Got something?" Sam wondered as you looked over to see Dean kneeling on the ground touching the floor.

"I don't know." Dean muttered. You and Sam joined him to see what it was. "Got some scratches on the floor."

"Death throes, maybe?" Sam speculated.

"Yeah, maybe." Dean nodded as he set a piece of paper on top of the scratches and rubbed a pencil over them. "Or maybe a message. Look familiar?" Dean asked Sam as he handed Sam the piece of paper.

"Three letters, six digits. The location and combination of a post office box. It's a mail drop." Sam realized.

"It's just the way Dad does it." Dean shared.

You and the brothers drove to the post office where the box was to see what was in it. Once Dean opened it he pulled out a letter addressed to a J. W..

You three quickly returned to the car to decide your next step. "J.W. You think? John Winchester?" Sam wondered.

"I don't know." Dean mumbled as he looked at the letter.

"It would make sense, if Elkins was a hunter and his journal looked a lot like John's." You pointed out from the backseat.

"Should we open it?" Dean asked when you suddenly heard knocking on the window scaring Dean. You turned to see John standing outside of Dean's door. "Dad?" Dean asked as John got into the backseat next to you.

"Dad what are you doing here? Are you all right?" Sam asked him.

"Yeah, I'm okay." John nodded as he looked between the three of you. "I read the news about Daniel. I got here as fast as I could. I saw you three up at his place."

"So that was you I saw in the trees out there." You confirmed.

"Yeah, I'm surprised you noticed before those two. You must be improving greatly at hunting." John observed.

"Why didn't you come in, Dad?" Sam asked him.

"You know why. Because I had to make sure you weren't being followed. By anyone...or anything. Nice job of covering your tracks, by the way." John explained.

"Yeah, well, we learned from the best." Dean smiled at John.

"Wait, so you came all the way out here for this Elkins guy?" Sam questioned.

"Yeah. He was-He was a good man. He taught me a hell of a lot about hunting." John replied.

"You never mentioned him to us." Sam stated.

"We had a-We had kind of a falling out. I hadn't seen him in years. I should look at that." John said referring to the letter in Dean's hand. Dean passed him the letter and he opened it. ""If you're reading this, I'm already dead." That son of a b*tch." John muttered under his breath.

"What is it?" Dean wondered.

"He had it the whole time." John spoke as he read the rest of the letter to himself.

"Dad, what?" Sam asked.

"When you searched the place, did you-? Did you see a gun?" John asked you guys. "An antique. A Colt revolver. Did you see it?"

"Um, when we were in the office I found a wooden gun case, but the bullets and pistol were missing." You replied.

"They have it." John stated.

"You mean whatever killed Elkins?" Dean asked.

"We've got to pick up the trail." John ordered as he got out of the car.

"Wait." Sam cried. "You want us to come with you?"

"If Elkins was telling the truth, we've gotta find this gun." John explained.

"The gun? Why?" Sam questioned.

"It's important, that's why." John stated.

"Dad, we don't even know what these things are yet." Sam argued.

"They were what Daniel Elkins killed best." John shared. "Vampires."

"Vampires?" Dean asked. "I thought there was no such thing."

"You never even mentioned them, Dad." Sam pointed out.

"I thought they were extinct. I thought Elkins and-And others had wiped 'em out. I was wrong." John explained. "Most vampire lore is crap. A cross won't repel them. Sunlight won't kill them. And neither will a stake to the heart. But the bloodlust, that part's true. They need fresh human blood to survive. They were once people, so you won't know until it's a vampire until it's too late."

You guys got a motel room in Manning to stay at, until you could retrieve the gun from the vampires. it felt a little cramped though, since there were four of you now. Sam and Dean were asleep in their own beds while you were resting on the couch and John was sitting at the table listening to the police scanner. You couldn't actually fall asleep though because something was bugging you. "Unit 22. Let me confirm. Mile marker 41. Abandoned car." Do you need a workup? Copy that. Possible 207. Better get forensics out here." You heard over the police scanner. So you got up and got ready to go.

"Sam. Dean. Let's go." John spoke loudly to get the boys to awake.

"Mm?" Dean murmured as he rubbed his eyes.

"What happened?" Sam asked as he got up.

"I picked up a phone call. A couple called 911. Found a body in the street. Cops got there, everyone was missing. It's the vampires." John explained.

"Aw, how do you know?" Sam questioned.

"Just follow me, okay?" John snapped as he went out the door.

"Vampires." Dean scoffed. "Gets funnier every time I hear it."

You guys drove over to the crime scene, but John insisted he talk to the cops alone, so you and the boys stayed with the Impala. "I don't see why we couldn't have gone over with him." Sam huffed as he stuffed his hands in his pockets.

"Oh, don't tell me it's already starting." Dean grumbled as you noticed John walked back over.

"What's starting?" Sam asked.

"What do you got?" Dean asked John as he joined the group.

"I was them, all right. It looks like they're heading west. We'll double back to get around that detour." John explained.

"How can you be so sure?" Sam questioned.

"Sam." Dean stated.

"I just wanna know we're going in the right direction." Sam voiced.

"We are." John answered.

"How do you know?" Sam repeated.

"I found this." John said as he pulled something out of his pocket and gave it to Dean.

"It's a vampire fang." Dean muttered as he examined it.

"No fangs. Teeth." John corrected. "A second set descends when they attack. Any more questions? All right. Let's get out of here. We're losing daylight. Hey, Dean, why don't you touch up your car? Before you get rust. I wouldn't have given you the d*mn thing if I thought you were gonna ruin it." John commented as he walked over to his truck and got in.

You three got in the Impala and Sam followed John down some back roads. "So, "vampires nest in groups of eight to ten. The smaller packs are sent out to hunt for food. Victims are taken to the nest, where the pack keeps them alive, bleeding them for days or weeks."" You read from Elkins journal.

"I wonder if that's what happened to that 911 couple." Dean speculated.

"That's probably what Dad's thinking." Sam agreed. "Course, it'd be nice if he just told us what he thinks."

"So it is starting." Dean stated as he looked over at Sam.

"What?" Sam wondered as he looked over at Dean.

"Sam, we've been looking for Dad all year. Now we're with him for a couple of hours and there's static already?" Dean questioned.

"No." Sam scoffed. "Look, I'm happy he's okay, all right? I'm happy that we're all workin' together again."

"Good." Dean agreed.

"It's just the way he treats us like we're children." Sam admitted.

"Oh, God." Dean rolled his eyes.

"He-He barks orders at us, Dean. He expects us to follow 'em without question. He keeps us on some crap need-to-know deal." Sam ranted.

"He does what he does for a reason." Dean argued.

"What reason?" Sam asked.

"Our job. There's no time to argue. No margin for error. All right, it's just the way the old man runs things." Dean explained.

"Yeah, well, maybe that worked when we were kids. But not anymore. All right? Not after everything you, Y/N, and I have been through, Dean. I mean, are you telling me you're cool with just falling into line and letting him run the whole show?" Sam asked Dean.

"If that's what it takes." Dean stated. Sam continued to follow John for another couple of hours, until it was well after dark. "Yeah, Dad. All right, got it. Pull off the next exit." Dean told Sam as he got off the phone with John.

"Why?" You asked.

"'Cause dad thinks we've got the vampires' trail." Dean answered.

"How?" Sam asked

"I dunno. He didn't say." Dean shrugged his shoulders. Then Sam sped up really fast to get ahead of John's truck and block him from going any further. "Oh, crap. Here we go." Dean grumbled as Sam got out of the car, you and Dean joined him.

"Sam! What the hell was that?" John asked as he got out of his truck and walked over to Sam.

"We need to talk." Sam stated.

"About what?" John asked him.

"About everything. Where are we going, Dad? What's the big deal about this gun?" Sam questioned.

"Sammy, come on, we can q and a after we kill all the vampires." Dean advised as he walked over to Sam and John.

"Dean's right. We don't have time for this." John agreed.

"Last time we saw you, you said it was too dangerous to be together. Now, out of the blue, you need our help. Now, obviously something big is going down. And we wanna know what." Sam declared.

"Get back in the car." John ordered.

"No." Sam stated.

"I said get back in the d*mn car." John repeated raising his voice.

"Yeah, and I said no." Sam repeated firmly.

"All right, you made your point tough guy. Look, we're all tired. We can talk about this later. Sammy, I mean it. Come on." Dean said trying to diffuse the situation as he dragged Sam back to the Impala.

"This is why I left in the first place." Sam muttered under his breath.

"What'd you say?" John asked.

"You heard me." Sam growled as he walked back over to John.

"Yeah. You left. Your brother and me, we needed you. You walked away, Sam. You walked away!" John shouted.

"Stop it. Both of you." Dean said trying to get between Sam and John.

"You're the one who said, "Don't come back," Dad. You're the one who closed that door, not me. You were just pissed off you couldn't control me anymore!" Sam yelled as he and John grabbed each other by the scuff of their jackets.

"Listen! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it, that's enough!" Dean shouted.

"All right, everybody just shut up!" You yelled, getting everybody's attention. "Sam's right, it's time you stop treating them like they're children."

"Excuse me?" John scoffed as he looked at you.

"They are grown-a*s adults now, they need to take control of their own lives, and you can't always be there to protect them. And another thing, you claim you want to protect them but you're just pushing them away. Also, where were you when Dean was on his fricking dead-bed, huh? You should have been there for them. You know how many times they tried calling you. It wouldn't have killed you to pick up a phone once in a while let them know you're alive. They almost thought that you were dead for a second there too."

"You have no right to tell me how to treat my children!" John growled at you.

"Hey, Y/N." Dean said as he tried to keep you back, but you nudged him away and got closer to John.

"I do! You wanna know why? I'm the one who has been there for them this last year. We have saved each other more times than I can count. They are great hunters and they have saved so many lives without your help. But when they're with you they're different, Dean turns into that little boy that follows all of daddy's orders and Sam tries to speak up but no one listens to him. Someone needs to stand for them, Dean wants to be exactly like you, heck he probably worships the ground you stand on, and Sam he so much like you, but neither of you can see it." You ranted on.

"You do not know what we've been through, so don't act like you're a part of this family!" John shouted at you.

"You know what you're right, I'm not a part of this family. I have no family anymore. But I sure as hell know what you've been through 'cause I watched my whole family get slaughtered by some demon two years ago and I couldn't save them!" You cried as tears started to well up in your eyes.

"Y/N..." Sam and Dean murmured as they stared at you in shock.

"I promise I won't make that same mistake twice, I will always be there for Sam and Dean no matter what!" You proclaimed. "I'm done." You said as you got back into the Impala not wanting to discuss it anymore. God knows Sam and Dean will have some questions for you later. Sam and Dean joined you in the car again, and John got back in his truck and you made your way to the vampire nest, but you had to wait until daytime to attack them. You hadn't said a word to any of them about what happened and you avoided eye contact when you could. Now you just wanted to focus on the mission at hand. T

he four you were hiding in the trees outside the nest which was one big barn. You watched one vampire let another one into the building before closing it. "Son of a b*tch. So they're really not afraid of the sun?" Dean asked John.

"Uh, direct sunlight hurts like a nasty sunburn. The only way to kill 'em is by beheading. And yeah, they sleep during the day. Doesn't mean they won't wake up." John warned.

"So I guess walking right in's not our best option." Dean figured.

"Actually, that's the plan." John revealed. You guys returned to the car and truck a few miles into the forest to grab the stuff you need to attack. Dean open the Impala's trunk while John opened the bed of his truck to reveal a stylish, high-tech arsenal. Each other you grabbed a machete from the trunk. "So...you three really want to know about this Colt?"

"Yes, sir." Sam answered.

"It's just a story. A legend, really. Well, I thought it was. I never really believed it until I read Daniel's letter. Back in 1835, when Halley's comet was overhead, the same night those men died at the Alamo, they say Samuel Colt made a gun. A special gun. He made it for a hunter. A man like us, only on horseback. The story goes, he made thirteen bullets. This hunter used the gun a half-dozen times before he disappeared, the gun along with him. Until somehow Daniel got his hands on it. They say...They say this gun can kill anything." John explained.

"Kill anything, like supernatural anything?" Dean wondered.

"Like the demon." Sam figured.

"Yeah, the demon. Ever since I picked up its trail, I've been lookin' for a way to destroy that thing. Find the gun, we may have it." John shared.

You four went back to the nest and snuck into the barn. John went to look in the left side of the barn to find the gun, and Sam and Dean investigated the main room of the barn. Meanwhile you searched in the right side which seems to be where the vampires stored everything. You looked through the different boxes and bags for the gun, but couldn't find anything. Suddenly you heard ghastly screaming coming from the main room and a lot of shouting. You went back down the hallway and peeked around the corner to see Sam and Dean getting chased by a bunch of vampires. You turned around to find another way out, but a vampire came up behind you and grabbed you by the neck and banging your head against the wall knocking you out.

When you woke up you were tied up to a wooden pole in the main room of the barn. Well at least you weren't dead, but you were surrounded by vampires. You weren't sure who the other vampires were but you heard that the leader's name was Luther and the woman that was always with him was Kate. "Heh, I'm surprised you haven't drained me yet." You commented. You weren't too scared of these vampires after everything you've hunted.

"Oh, I'm sure we can change that." Kate cooed as she tried walking up to you. You swung your leg upwards and kicked her in the jaw with your foot causing her to fall backwards.

"Do me a favor, and keep your whore away from me." You huffed.

"You b*tch!" Kate screamed as she went to attack you.

"Easy Kate, all in due time." Luther calmed her and pulled her into his arms and gave her a wet kiss on the lips and licked the blood from her mouth.

"Ew." You groaned as you looked away from them.

"I want to drain her in front of her fellow hunters, or maybe I'll turn her and have her drain them herself." Luther cooed to Kate as he looked your way with a grin that sent shivers down your spine. "First things, first you need to go capture them, Kate. Bring one back and kill the rest." Luther told Kate as they walked out of the room.

"That won't happen, they're gonna decapitate your a*ses!" You shouted at them. The other vampires ignored you for the most part on orders from Luther, but your hands were bound so tight you couldn't break out of them.

A couple of hours passed since Kate left. Suddenly Luther came in and grabbed you by the back of your neck ripping you from your bindings. "What's going on?" You squeaked out as Luther forced you outside to his car.

"Your friends have Kate." Luther growled. "I'm going to use you as a shield against them to get Kate back."

"Ha, ha I warned you guys earlier." You laughed as he kicked you into the dirt and pulled you back up again as you were coughing.

"Get in!" He shouted as he threw you in the backseat and climbed in next to you with another vampire driving.

As you went down the back roads you finally saw headlights ahead of you. Then Luther pulled you out of the car by the back of your neck and dragged you in front of it with his other vampires nearby. You watched as John's truck pulled up a few feet in front of you and stopped. "Who are you?" He asked John.

"Name's Winchester." John answered.

"Where are the rest of your friends?" Luther asked.

"Cleaning out your nest." John replied. "Y/N, you okay?" You nodded as well as you could.

"Where's Kate?" Luther questioned as he tightened the grip of your neck.

"Come here, sweetheart." John said as he pulled Kate out of the truck by some rope and held a knife to her neck as he walked in front of his truck.

"Kate? You all right?" Luther called over to her.

"Dead man's blood." Kate panted.

"You son of a b*tch." Luther growled as he squeezed your neck even harder, making it difficult to breath.

"I want the Colt, Elkins' gun and the girl back." John demanded. "A trade."

"Is that what this is all about?" Luther asked him. "I mean, you can't shoot us all, right? Especially since I have your friend here hostage. We'll kill her and you."

"Oh, I don't need it for you. I'm saving it for somethin' else." John hinted. "Put the Colt down and we'll trade, or she goes first."

"All right." Luther agreed. "Just don't hurt her." Luther asked as he slowly walked closer to John and used his free hand to put the Colt on the ground.

"Back up." John ordered. So Luther took a few steps back. "Further." Luther took a few move steps back.

"It's a nice move. You almost made it." Luther smirked at John as he bent down to pick up the Colt. Kate swung her hands into his chin causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the hood of his truck. Suddenly arrows came flying out of the trees and pierced some of his vampires. Sam and Dean came running out and fought the vampires. As Dean grabbed his machete to attack Luther wrapped his arm around your neck. "Don't. I'll break her neck. Put the blade down." Dean put his hand up and dropped the machete on the ground. "You people. Why can't you just leave us alone? We have as much a right to live as you do."

"I don't think so." John said as Luther turned him and you around to see John fire a bullet from the Colt into his head. As he let go of you Dean pulled you into his arms and held you protectively. Everyone there stared in wonder and confusion as Luther died.

"Luther!" Kate shrieked.

"Kate, don't!" The female vampire grabbed Kate and stopped her from lunging at John. Then they angrily got in their car and drove off.

You and the brother were packing your things to leave town when John walked into your motel room. "So, boys." John began.

"Yes, sir." Sam nodded.

"You ignored a direct order back there." John stated.

"Yes, sir." Sam repeated.

"Yeah, but we saved yours and Y/N's a*ses." Dean pointed out.

"You're right." John agreed.

"I am?" Dean questioned.

"It scares the hell out of me. You two are all I've got, but I guess we are stronger as a family. And someone recently told me that I needed to treat you two like adults now. So...we go after this d*mn thing. Together. That includes you too, Y/N." John admitted.

"Yes, sir." Sam and Dean said in unison.

"Yeah." You smiled at him.
