A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 3 Chapter 18

The next morning as everyone returned to their Houses to change, clean up, and get their stuff for the day, Bailey and her pups headed down to the forest under the assumption that they were getting some exercise.

Kind of already expecting them Sirius Black is already waiting for them in his dog form.

Bailey doesn't beat around the bush.

Baring her teeth Bailey lunges at Sirius, knocking him to the ground. She growls fiercely in his face, not bothering to hide her displeasure at the troublesome spectacle he made last night. Her sons and daughters surround them, preventing Sirius from making a quick escape. Sirius doesn't resist, aware he messed up. Seeing that her message has been received, Bailey backs off so he can stand with his head down and tail between his legs in submission.

Shifting back into his human form, remaining on his knees, Sirius said "I am sorry. I shouldn't have lost my temper last night."

Charmer nips his hand.

"Ow," said Sirius, pulling his hand back. "Okay, okay, I shouldn't have been up there at all. I won't do that anymore. I promise."

This time all of them growl in rebuke.

Raising placating hands, cringing, Sirius said "I mean it this time."

Yeah, like he's going to keep that.

"Bailey!"

Bailey snaps her head back up to the Castle. Harry's calling her. Time for them to go back up.

"Bailey," called Harry. "Come here, Girl!"

"Harry," breathed Sirius.

Every single one of them could sense that hearing Harry's voice created a large amount of pain in Sirius. They could all feel it. It's close to overwhelming.

Ranger is the first to take the initiative. Walking over, he sits down beside Sirius to lean against him. Exhaling a shaky breath, Sirius presses a hand into Ranger's fur.

This turns out to be exactly what Sirius needed.

"Bailey!"

Uh oh. This one is closer.

Sirius changes back into a dog and Bailey books in the direction Harry's voice is coming from.

Harry as about a third of the way down when she caught up to him.

"There you are. Come on, Bailey. We're gonna be late," said Harry, grabbing her harness.

They made it with a couple of minutes to spare.

The fact they didn't get caught is the only good thing that happened until the first Quidditch game of the season.

Over the next few days, it was extremely difficult for Harry to take his mind off Sirius Black, and not just because of all the talking that slipped around the school.

The first thing is the replacement portrait outside of Gryffindor Tower that now stands where the Fat Lady's ripped canvas did previously.

The portrait of Sir Cadagon is downright barney. Really, his level of craziness is unfathomable. He keeps changing the password to get inside Gryffindor Tower multiple times a day. It's gotten so bad that Neville has gone so far as keeping a list so he can't get locked out.

The 2nd is constantly being tailed almost everywhere he goes, Bailey's presence aside.

Harry is not simply annoyed by it, he's a touch scornful.

Harry would prefer they'd stop skirting around and keeping stuff from him and just be upfront about everything.

Bailey must admit she agrees. She even snaps and chases Percy away when he gets far too obvious in his tailing of her boy.

Right after that Harry was summoned into Professor McGonagall's office. They assumed it was to receive a reprimand, a telling off for Bailey going after Percy. To the contrary, it was nothing of the sort.

Speaking from behind her desk in a very serious tone of voice, Professor McGonagall said "There's no point hiding it from you any longer, Potter. I know this will come as a shock to you, but Sirius Black-."

"I know he's after me," said Harry, wearily. "I heard Ron's dad telling his mom."

Clearly her throat awkwardly upon this revelation, Professor McGonagall said "I see. Well, in that case, Potter, you'll understand why I don't think it's a good idea for you to be practicing Quidditch in the evenings. Out on the field with only your team members, it's very exposed, Potter-."

Oh, come off it! She can't take Quidditch away from her boy! Bailey's not having it!

Bailey starts barking in protest at that statement.

"Potter, control Bailey," said Professor McGonagall, sternly.

"Bailey, settle," said Harry.

Bailey reluctantly complies, grumbling her displeasure.

"I'm sorry about that Professor, but I'm not down there in the pitch with just my team members. Bailey and her pups are down there whenever we practice. They'd protect me easily if anything were to happen and I'd have enough warning where I can get on my broom. Professor, please, I have to train! We have our first match on Saturday," said Harry, outraged by this development.

If Harry didn't have Quidditch as an outlet Bailey didn't know even, she could've broken out of the deflated and miserable slump he'd found himself in.

If there's one thing Professor McGonagall does have pride in it's her house's Quidditch team. Despite her age, she too is competitive during the Quidditch season and wants her team to win the Cup. The last thing she wants is to hinder that.

A compromise is eventually reached from this, and he may attend practice with Madam Hooch down in the pitch to keep an eye on everything.

In part, Bailey is partially grateful for Madam Hooch's attendance down there. With the weather steadily getting worse as the week progressed, instead of playing around, Bailey and the pups would sit with Madam Hooch in the protected shelter she made with her wand in the stands. There they'd wait until practice was over and then disperse to more protected spots.

The weather just kept putting a dampener on an already irritating week. It's as if nothing can be done to bring a brighter outlook.

And it's about to get even worse.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
