A/N: Don't own Gilmore Girls. I had fun writing this one. It is short, but continues to show how Logan and Rory are improving their communication - sharing information. In Ch. 25, Honor had come to visit the Gilmores for Tea so she could see Logan. She does leave before Luke and Lorelai show up. I didn't tell you the conversation she had with Logan because it wasn't important to the Rory - Logan story. Sorry to leave you wondering. I actually often felt the series did that to us, too, just cut away to follow the story of the main character and left the secondary ones hanging.
Rory found Logan after catching the bouquet. "Guess I'm next in line."
"Sounds good to me," wrapping his arms around her and kissing her passionately.
Logan saw Colin talking to the band, and Moon River started to play. Pulling Rory to him, they dance to the music. As the song ends, Rory looks at Logan, "Hi."
"Hi," he smiles back, waiting to see what she says next.
"What you doing?"
"Writing"
"Good"
"You know that should have gone the other way," Logan says.
"But Paul is the writer."
"True."
"Speaking of writing, what did your father want?"
"You know how to ruin a moment." Logan walks Rory back to their table, where the wedding cake is waiting for them.
"So?"
"He asked about when we were going to get married. He told me how much he appreciated you working with HPG papers to get the stories done on Obama."
"What does he want?" Rory questioned.
"I think he really wants me back at HPG."
"Yeah, I think so too. Has me worried."
"Rory, if I go back," Rory went to interrupt him, but he held up a forkful of cake, and she opened her mouth to let him feed her. "IF I go back," emphasizing the If for her, "it will have so many conditions attached, and it will be legally binding. I am not going to live his life."
Rory nodded, "I know. I also know that my traveling has been tough for us, and well, I just. I don't want more pressure on you than already exists."
"I appreciate that, Ace. Trust me, we will discuss any next moves. I think I will be leaving Palo Alto next January, though."
Rory cocked her head, "And why is that?"
"My guess is that you will be offered a job either in DC or Chicago."
"Chicago?"
"Oprah."
"Oh, I am not going to work for her, just doing the book, which is going well. I have to spend another week out there. We have made great progress. She writes the memories or dictates them, and then I weave them together. Alice Walker is also going to contribute to the writing process."
"Alice Walker? You have very different writing styles."
"Yeah, it is great; she has a rawness to her writing. It is so powerful. But Oprah is concerned that Alice's voice would overpower hers, so my job is to maintain the voice that Oprah is writing in after Alice creates the raw energy. The collaboration is amazing. It also makes me think about which direction to take my writing career."
"Writing career? That is different from being a journalist." Logan notes.
"I love journalism, but as I said before, being on the road, living out of hotels, not as glamorous as I thought. I love the research, compiling, drafting and editing. I was happiest as the editor at the Yale Daily News and now working on this book. I might be more interested in going someplace to do in-depth research but not interviewing random people and trying to track down leads. More the history type of research instead of the detective."
Logan leans over and kisses her, "Whatever you decide, you will do an amazing job. Just glad you have the freedom to decide."
"I also am trying to decide how I will structure the foundation. Ideas come to me, so many ideas."
"Ace, hey."
"hmm."
"Don't worry about my Dad right now. We know he wants me back, and the longer he has to wait, the more power that gives us. As far as your foundation goes, you decide. If you want to add a special cause for a year or two, then you decide. I think your idea of funding small-town papers is a great idea. Better than my Dad buying them."
"Actually, your Dad buying them is better than hedge funds. Will my small grants make a difference or just delay the inevitable? Logan, I am terrified for the integrity of journalism."
"Right now, make the grants, give the small guys a chance. If you need to adjust course, you will have the opportunity to do so. Keep reporting and telling valuable stories. I will keep linking to your stories, and we can help get the word out about the grants. That is the advantage of social media. Now that we have solved the journalism problems, what did my Mom want?"
Rory laughed, "Oh, you will love this one." And she proceeded to tell Logan about meeting Odette, the daughter of the Le Monde. "At least she is intelligent, way better than Fallén. She made such a big deal about how we would enjoy each other so much because we both work."
"I should meet this Odette, maybe she would make a good backup plan in case we don't work out."
"Sure, and hmm, maybe I will make a pack with Finn that if you end up with Odette, I'll marry him."
"Never mind. I don't need to meet Odette. And Finn, he is your backup plan? Seriously, Rory, you could do so much better."
