Over their blazing lightsabers, the Doctor spoke to Darth Kranna, the Dalek Witch: "I might be new with these laser swords, but I been trained in fencing, including by Nakana Takeko! So watch it!"

The crimson light of Kranna's saber danced in her insane eyes as she replied "The Doctor of War faces me in open combat! A dream come true! You didn't like to be called 'Doctor' in the War, did you? Yesss, my Daleks told me a lot about you!" Gareth and Ian hung back as the sabers wielded by the two women spun and clashed in a violent duet. Ian had never seen his mother in combat before; she mostly avoided using weapons. But the Dalek Witch had triggered something in her, and now she battled fiercely. Gareth watched too, and in spite of his fear at their predicament, he felt his heart racing with...desire? The Doctor was magnificent in the intensity of her passion.

Yet at a sudden gesture from the Dalek Witch, Vizsla's saber flew from the Doctor's hands. Hands which now went to her throat as her eyes bulged, and she gasped and gagged. Kranna was using the Force to cut off her air supply. Seeing his mother in pain, Ian screamed out "MUM!" Breaking away from Gareth, the Doctor's son launched himself at Kranna, hammering her with his fists as he shouted "STOP! LET HER GO! JUST STOP HURTING EVERYONE!" A snarl from the Sith, and Ian too now felt the contraction at his throat, growing tighter, horribly tighter, his vision dimming. Kranna just laughed in glee at the anguish felt by mother and child...

Then the laugh became a scream as a ribbon of darkness sliced first through Kranna's Dalek eyestalk, sending it clattering to the floor where its blue glow sputtered and died. She screamed louder as both her arms fell sizzling away just above the elbows. She, the Doctor, Ian and Gareth all stared, frozen, as Tarre Vizsla stood in front of Kranna, his lightsaber back in his hand, and he said "For justice..." A second later, Darth Kranna, the Dalek Witch of Mandalore, was dead. Moments afterward, four figures stood outside in the snow as thick, black smoke poured from inside the castle, rising into the sharp air. "So much evil," Vizsla murmured. "It all had to burn."

The Doctor, her eyes full of the wisdom and compassion of ages of time, approached him and said "Vizsla...I don't need this Force of yours to know that there's something you haven't told us. About Kranna. Who she was to you." Vizsla glanced at Ian and Gareth, felt their unspoken echo of the Doctor's statement.

"I told you of Mandalore and the Jedi," he sighed. "The long history of violence between us. And of Darth Kranna's family. They were my kin too. Kranna...was my aunt. And I'll have to always live with my fury at the path she chose...as well as my love for her, and remorse at her death." Then the Mandalorian turned around and began walking away, back the way they had come. The TARDIS crew joined him, abandoning the burning mansion with its stink of Dalek and Sith. "A strange looking craft you have," he remarked as they approached the TARDS, breaking the silence. "Are you all comfortable in there?"

The Doctor grinned and replied "All I'll say is, don't let the outside fool you."

"Joshua bless you, Tarre Vizsla," Gareth told him, shaking the Jedi's hand warmly.

Ian spoke. "Tarre, I want to tell you that it's been amazing to meet you. Me, Mum and Gareth...we won't forget you. I know you're troubled, but you're brave, you're strong, and you're noble. Also..." He smiled. "I can't help liking your...lightsaber? Though, with its colour, I think it should be called...darksaber."

Vizsla looked down and fingered the hilt of his weapon at his belt thoughtfully. "Darksaber. A striking name. Thank you for the suggestion, Ian. But the time has come for us to part. There is still much for me to do, both here on Mandalore and elsewhere. May the Force be with you all." The three travellers watched him stride away until he was gone from sight, before filing back inside the TARDIS, ready to continue their own adventures.
