T/Ws: Mentions of Homophobia
Chapter 45: Mauerfall
Gilbert got to the check point and it was already rammed, cars and people crowded the entire place, all in the hope of crossing over. However as more and more time ticked by without a sign of movement Gilbert was losing his patience.
'I am going to ask around, if the traffic moves, drive the car forward.' Gilbert said before jumping out of the car and into the crowd.
'Gilbert wait I-' Ivan yelled after him but he had already gone.
Ivan buried his face into his scarf and waited anxiously for the Prussian to come back, hoping he wasn't just going to abandon him here in the car.
The logical side of his brain was telling him Gilbert was his boyfriend and loved him, he would never hurt him like that. However the more emotional side of his brain was telling him of course Gilbert would abandon him first chance, everyone did eventually.
As the time dragged on to a half hour Ivan was going to go out to look for him when he saw a familiar figure moving through the crowd towards him.
Gilbert got back inside the driver's seat and sighed.
'They haven't opened this one yet, what others have told me two have opened so far but it's not like I am going to get the car out of here at this point.' Gilbert sighed.
'So what now?' Ivan asked.
'We wait for them to finally open this one, considering it has been hours, I am guessing it hasn't actually been passed yet and the guards at the other ones have just given up and opened them, this one will eventually do the same.' Gilbert explained.
'If you just go, will they let you back in?' Ivan asked worriedly.
'I am their country, they will have to, these poor bastards though, who knows. Might have to wait for it to be official I guess but that's on them. We will probably have to pass it urgently in the morning. So the meeting is going to be chaotic tomorrow but at least it will be over soon.' Gilbert shrugged.
'Please promise you will come back!' Ivan cried, hugging the Prussian tightly and crying into his shoulder.
'You big baby. Of course I will come back, I have a meeting tomorrow for a start and I am not just going to up and abandon your ass with no warning. All my stuff is in my apartment anyway, you know.' Gilbert sighed, putting his hand in the Russian's hair and petting it.
'You could always come along, you know. Ludwig would get over it.' Gilbert said softly.
'If I went west without permission a war could start or my Boss would hurt me badly. I can't risk it.' Ivan said, muffled by the fabric he had buried his face in.
'You could just say you don't like my brother.' Gilbert joked, of course he had kind of forgotten they were countries for a second there.
They continued to stay there stuck in one place for a couple more hours, Ivan getting more and more clingy as the hours passed by. Hugging on the Prussian and rubbing his face all over him. Gilbert was just glad that being gay was legal here unlike back in Russia. Still didn't stop the dirty looks though.
He did worry about what would happen if someone recognised them and passed it up the chain to Ivan's boss. The guy seemed chill but still, he might hurt them for it. None the less Gilbert didn't have the heart to push the Russian off him, especially when he was so paranoid and upset.
Suddenly though the cars began to move ahead of him.
'Oh shit!' Gilbert smiled as he started his car and began rolling it forward.
Gilbert watched in joy as the gate got closer and closer, meanwhile for Ivan it was like watching hell approach him. He was so afraid to lose Gilbert, what if he was lying, what if he never came back.
Soon Gilbert was just two cars away from the crossing and he had his papers ready.
'You promise you will come back?' Ivan asked again for the 100th time.
'Mein gott. Vanya, I swear, I will come back. Your my boyfriend for fuck sake, I am not going to just cross over and then abandon your ass.' Gilbert assured.
'The I best go before you cross over. I love you by the way, I love you so much.' Ivan said grabbing his hand tightly.
'I love you too you massive dummkopf, at the latest I will be home before my meeting tomorrow okay? Take care getting back and don't mess up the apartment while I am gone.' Gilbert smiled genuinely, holding the Russian's hand back just as tight.
Ivan just pulled the Prussians face to his and into a deep kiss, he didn't care what anyone thought or saw. Just in case this was the last time, he wanted to savour it. Gilbert leaned into it.
'I love you so much Gilbert.' Ivan whispered as he pulled away.
'I know, you have repeated it all night. I love you too.' Gilbert said softly.
'Goodbye.' Ivan nodded before jumping out the car.
'See you later alright!' Gilbert yelled after him before watching him vanish into the crowd.
Gilbert waited in anticipation as he got to the gate. It was already almost midnight but no doubt his brother was on the other side, waiting. Even if he only got a few hours with him today it was worth it.
He was surprised when they waved him through without even checking his documents on both gates, as he left the last one he found his car crowded by people. All of the banging on his car as they welcome him with cheers. Some dude even threw a whole pack of beer through his car window for him to have.
'Together as we should be.' Gilbert smiled in joy.
He drove slowly through the crowd, trying to find a payphone so he could call his brother. Not sure if he would even be home or maybe in this street party but hell he would find him somehow.
Ludwig was standing nearby atop a phone box looking over the crowd in hope his brother may appear. Luckily his brother's unique appearance made him easy to find in crowds.
He also knew this gate was the closest to his apartment so this is where he would go and he would be here as Ludwig knew he had been at the meetings about the border the last few days. His spy's had confirmed it.
That's when he saw a blue trabant with a white haired man in it.
'THAT HAS TO BE HIM!' Ludwig screamed as he jumped from the box and ran in the direction of the guard.
Once he got to the car he threw himself on the hood so his face was right by the glass.
'BRUDER!' He screamed in joy as he cried.
'BRUDER!' Gilbert screamed back, tears welling up in his eyes too.
'Hold on, let me get this to the side of the road so I can park it! Don't let go!' Gilbert yelled.
'I am never letting go, Bruder! I swear to gott! I am never letting go of you again!' Ludwig cried as he hung off the front of the car.
Once the car was by a curb, Gilbert jumped out and was immediately embraced by Ludwig.
'Finally, finally we are together. No fucking Russia or anyone else in our way.' Ludwig cried as he crushed the Prussian in a tight hug.
'Your so big and strong now! I am so proud! My brother is so awesome and we are finally together again!' Gilbert cried back.
'THIS IS MY AWESOME BROTHER EVERYONE!' Gilbert yelled as he pulled away.
'MY AWESOME BROTHER WHO I HAVE MISSED SO LONG! MY AWESOME BROTHER WHO HAS GOTTEN SO BIG AND STRONG SINCE WE HAVE BEEN APART! I AM SO PROUD!' Gilbert screamed as he pulled away, earning a cheer from the people nearby.
'Some dude threw some beers into my car. Want to sit in it with me and drink them?' Gilbert laughed.
'There is nothing else I want in this world brother.' Ludwig smiled widely, a rare sight.
'Your such a softy deep down West, I swear.' Gilbert grinned, pulling the other into a head lock and roughing up his hair.
'Glad to know you are still just as annoying after all this time.' Ludwig grumbled with a smile.
Gilbert and Ludwig had spent the entire night drinking and partying with the rest of their countrymen. However as 6 am came around Gilbert knew he had to go back, not only did he have a meeting that day, assuming it was still on but he had also made a promise to Ivan and he wasn't about to break it.
'I better cross back before I am late for work.' Gilbert laughed as he started the car, probably too drunk to drive but who cared.
'Wait you're going back?' Ludwig said confused.
'Assuming it hasn't been cancelled, I have a meeting in 3 hours and also my clothes and all my shit are at my apartment right now.' Gilbert explained.
'I mean, it's an open border now right?' Ludwig asked.
'At this point yeah.' Gilbert shrugged.
'So we can see each other at any point?' Ludwig continued.
'I would assume so yeah. I will come to your place tonight alright, if anything changes I will phone you and this is my number for my apartment so you can phone me.' Gilbert smiled, writing his number on some paper and handing it over.
'See you tonight then brother.' Ludwig pulled Gilbert into a hug.
'Yeah, see you tonight.' Gilbert smiled happily before pulling away and waving the German goodbye.
He was the only person going back in so it was an easy trip. This time he was stopped at the second gate for a document check but after glancing at his passport he was waved through with no hassle.
