This is my fanfic about Scorpius (Draco's kid) and my own version of his story. Most of my story is not canon, but a couple of the things are. This first part features young Scorpius, who is about to start his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I hope you enjoy it! :)
Chapter 1- The Journey Begins
Scorpius sat atop his bed, looking down at his feet, deep in thought. Twas the night before Scorpius' first year at Hogwarts, and he had just been packing his trunk. A few minutes ago there had been items scattered all over the floor, which was now all neatly packed into his trunk.
A knock rang from the doorway, and Draco Malfoy, the father of Scorpius, stepped inside.
"This place looks pretty neat," said Draco as he observed the room.
"I just finished packing," Scorpius replied.
"Are you ready for some last minute shopping?" Draco asked, a smile posted on his face.
Scorpius nodded, and they both headed down the stairs.
"You might want to grab your coat," Draco advised. "It might be chilly out."
Scorpius rushed back up the stairs, grabbed his coat, and came back down.
"We'll be back soon," Draco was telling Astoria, who was Scorpius' mother.
"Have fun shopping!" Astoria smiled. "I love you both."
"Love you, too," replied Draco.
Astoria and Draco locked lips for a second, then Draco grabbed his coat, and ushered Scorpius out the door.
"How come Mum isn't coming?" Scorpius questioned.
"She's not feeling very well," Draco said quickly.
"Not feeling well?" Scorpius repeated, a hint of worry in his tone.
"Don't you worry," Draco assured him. "She's going to be just fine."
Scorpius nodded, but he was still worried on the inside.
About half an hour later the two arrived at Diagon Alley. As usual, it was filled with the sound of chatter and excitement. Everywhere witches and wizards were discussing the latest Quidditch game, shopping for robes, or gazing at the news broomstick model. Nearby, Scorpius saw a crowd huddled around a Firebolt, one of the fastest broomstick models in the world.
"So, where should we start?" Draco asked, turning to face Scorpius. "Wands, pets," (Draco notices Scorpius staring at the broomsticks) "brooms?"
"I think let's start with wands," replied Scorpius, heading over to Ollivander's shop.
"Sounds great," said Draco. "When you're done, meet me at this bench." (Draco points to the bench that is a couple feet away from them.)
Scorpius nodded, then continued walking towards Ollivanders. The shop looked quite old, but the man sitting inside it looked even older. When Scorpius shut the door behind him, the bell on the door rang, and the man came over to Scorpius.
"Ah! Welcome young man!" greeted the man. "My name is Ollivander, and welcome to my wand shop!" (and noticing the bright blonde hair) "and you must be the son of Draco Malfoy, am I correct?"
"Y-yes sir," Scorpius stammered. How did he know?
"Well, come over here now, boy," Ollivander called.
Scorpius took a few steps forward, stopping in front of Ollivander's desk, which was filled with boxes and boxes of wands.
"Take this, boy," Ollivander ordered, gesturing towards the wand in his hand. It was thin, light brown, and pretty short. Scorpius picked it up and started turning it around, observing it from every angle.
"Well go on then," Ollivander said. "Give it a go."
Scorpius flicked his wrist and red sparks shot out, making papers fly everywhere.
"Nope," Ollivander took the wand out of Scorpius' hand, and disappeared behind the wand shelves. A minute later he returned, carrying another wand. It was thin with a dramatic curve in the middle, and was tan with spots of brown. It also had roman numerals engraved at the bottom.
Ollivander handed the wand to Scorpius, who gently took it from him. Once again, Scorpius started turning the wand to observe it.
"Go on," Ollivander gestured, and Scorpius knew what he meant. He gave it a flick once more, and a light shined from the tip, illuminating the room around him.
"Ah!" exclaimed Ollivander. "Perfect! Here take this," (Ollivander hands Scorpius a wand box) "and have a great day!"
Scorpius gently placed his new wand inside the box. He then picked up a nearby tree branch and engraved his name next to the roman numerals. Then he sat atop the bench where he would meet his father, and started observing the alley around him. His eye once again caught the Firebolt sitting inside the broom shop.
Oh, how lucky I would be to get a Firebolt, Scorpius thought, but then shook his head. They hadn't enough money.
"There's my Scorpius!" called a familiar voice. Scorpius turned his head and saw that Narcissa Malfoy, his grandmother, was making her way towards him, Draco at her heels.
"Grandma Cissy!" exclaimed Scorpius as he ran over to embrace her. They hugged for a good five seconds, then Scorpius realized that Draco was hiding something behind his back.
"I've got a surprise for you," said Draco, smiling. He showed his hands, which were holding a cage. Inside the cage, coiled up, was a King Snake. It was about 40 inches long, and it was bright orange with black and white stripes. Its big eyes blinked as Scorpius stared into them.
"Thank you," Scorpius said, taking the cage and setting it next to his wand.
"Shall we go and pick out your broom?" Draco questioned. "After all, flying is mandatory for first years, and I sure enjoyed it while I was in Hogwarts."
The three of them started walking towards Quality Quidditch Supplies. Scorpius was looking down into the cage where his King Snake lay.
"What are you going to name her?" asked Draco.
"I think I'm going to go with Nessie," Scorpius replied, sticking his finger through the cage and feeling Nessie's scaly body.
"That's a nice name," Draco said. "By the way," (Draco pulls out a piece of parchment) "you're going to need this." Draco handed the parchment to Scorpius, who read Guide to Owning a King Snake at the top.
After about five minutes of walking, they reached Quality Quidditch Supplies. It was full of different kinds of broomstick models, quaffles, snitches, bludgers, and every other Quidditch supplies you can imagine. There were also Quidditch Newspapers, and all around you could hear witches and wizards talking about Quidditch teams and games.
"Wanna have a look at the brooms?" Draco asked, but before he had even finished the sentence, Scorpius was dashing to have a close look at the Firebolt. He stopped inches in front of it, pressing his face against the glass.
"I remember having one of these," Draco said nostalgically as he looked at the Nimbus 2001. "When I was on the Quidditch team."
"You were on the team!" Scorpius exclaimed.
"I never told you?" Draco asked, and Scorpius shook his head. "Well yes, I was. In my second year I made the Slytherin team seeker. My father bought the whole Slytherin team these Nimbus 2001s. They were the best models at the time. Oh, yes, my father was very rich. Anywho, our team didn't win very much, especially against Gryffindor. They had Harry Potter as their seeker, and o' course you know about Harry Potter," (Scorpius nods) "Well, he led the Gryffindors to a lot of victory. It was frustrating, made my father disappointed in me very much. O' course, your Grandma Cissy didn't care," (Draco gestures towards Narcissa) "but that didn't stop my father from pushing me to be the best at Quidditch. I had to practice every day. My legs were aching, my whole body was sore, and I was constantly out of breath. It wasn't the greatest experience, but still, I do miss Quidditch. I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much. Maybe you can even make the team, be a seeker just like I did!" Draco put his hand on Scorpius' shoulder. "Now, go pick out your broomstick. Nothing too fancy, alright?"
Scorpius nodded and then started walking around the shop. My father, Sytherin seeker! Wow!, thought Scorpius. Maybe I could get a Nimbus 2001, like my father? A Nimbus 2000 wouldn't be bad either. Maybe I could just settle with a Comet 140…
"Did you pick it out yet?" Narcissa asked.
"Grandma?" said Scorpius, ignoring her question. "Can I ask you something?"
"Fire away."
"What happened to Grandpa? Why didn't I ever meet him?" asked Scorpius, as he remembered his grandpa being mentioned in his father's story.
Narcissa sighed. "Well, I guess you are old enough to know," (With a little hesitation before she begins) "Lucius Malfoy, my husband, your father's dad, and your grandpa was not a very nice man. He was rich and would often brag about it and show off by buying the most expensive thing he could get his hands on. And, as Draco mentioned, he would push your father to do much more than he was capable of. I don't know why I married him in the first place. Maybe I was just blinded by his looks or how rich he was, but I did not make a good decision. He probably only married me for looks as well. O' course, we got Draco, who I would never regret having, but I don't think that's what your Grandpa Lucius thought. We got divorced shortly before your father and Astoria got married, I just couldn't stand him any more. He packed up his stuff, taking all his money with him. He didn't even show up to the wedding, I doubt he cared. Anyways, Lucius was a bad man, and trust me, you do not want to meet him."
Scorpius nodded, and (after thanking her for telling him) continued to browse for a broom. He took the Comet 140, walked over to his father and said, "I'll take this one."
"Excellent," said Draco as he took the broom. "You can look around a bit more while I go to pay."
"Okay," replied Scorpius, and he went to look through some of the Quidditch Magazines. On the top of the paper, it read Chudley Cannons make a comeback! Will they win the Quidditch Season? Scorpius started reading the paragraph, and found it very interesting. He kept reading through the results of the Quidditch games. Oh, how I would love to see a Quidditch game in person…
"Scorpius!" Draco called from the other end of the store. "It's time to go! It's getting dark out!"
Scorpius set down the magazine, grabbed Nessie and his wand, and set for the door. When he stepped outside it was already sunset (lucky for him he had already gotten his books), so they headed back home. Narcissa had informed Scorpius that she would be staying at his house for a while to spend some time with Draco (and to see him before he went off to Hogwarts.)
They made it home and Narcissa hugged Astoria, then Draco told Scorpius to go to bed. "You need a good night's rest for tomorrow," he had said.
Scorpius lay awake for a while, thinking about the next day, then slowly drifted off to sleep…
