Disclaimer: I don't own Lord of the Rings I'm just borrowing the characters for my own fun.
My name is Lola. I'm 17 years old and a senior in High school.
Today was like every other day. I went to school for the last day.
The tension was high as everyone was itching for summer to begin.
I walked into English class to see my teacher Mr. Manning setting out books on each of the desks.
I sat down in my assigned seat and looked at the book. It was "Lord of the Rings" The trilogy all in one.
I looked up at my teacher and spoke. "What's this for?" I asked. Mr. Manning smiled.
"It's a parting gift for all my students.
I think every student should read this. It's gonna be lifechanging." He said.
Little did I know that it would be for me.
I smiled and placed the book into my backpack.
Soon, class started and everyone was barley paying attention.
When the bell rang everyone cheered in happiness. It was officially summer. I headed to my locker and started to clean it out.
My best friend Byron came and leaned against the lockers. "What are we gonna do to celebrate?" he asked.
I smiled. "Well, we could do a movie night at my house." I said. Byron smiled.
"We always do movie nights, lets do something wild." He said.
I smile.
"You are an adrenaline junkie. You always want something wild." I said.
Byron smiled. "I'm glad you know me so well." He replied.
I laughed in response. I finished cleaning out my locker and Byron and I walked out of the school.
We got into my car, that my parents had bought me, and drove to my house.
I placed the backpack down at the door and called to my family.
"Hey, I'm here." I said. My mom came out of her office and rushed to hug me. "Congrats on being adults." She said.
Byron smiled. "Yea it's all fun and games now." He said.
I smiled. "We're gonna go hang in my room and talk about wild plans for the summer." I said.
Mom shook her head and turned to Byron. "You two always get into trouble together." She said.
I smiled. "That's cause were best friends." I said while putting an arm around Byran's neck.
Mom nodded and headed back to her office. She was a counselor. Most of her patients didn't come to the house but did appointments virtual.
It was an easy stay-at-home job for mom.
Dad was working late at the factory again. The family shared a car and mom was home so she would drop dad off and pick him up from work.
Today however, it was almost time for her to pick up dad.
Byron and I headed upstairs and sat on my bed to talk.
I started to unpack my backpack from school and the Lord of the Rings book fell out.
I picked it up and an idea turned in my head light a lightbulb. "Hey, Let's read this book together." I said.
Byron smiled. "That's boring not wild." He said. I sighed.
"It will be fun. Let's read at least one chapter." I said.
Byron nodded.
"Ok, but if I fall asleep you have to promise to wake me up." He said.
I smiled and started reading. About halfway through the chapter my mom yelled up the stares to let us know she was going to pick up my dad.
I yelled back ok and continued to read out loud. We finished the chapter and Byron spoke.
"YOU HAVE TO READ MORE, THIS IS AMAZING!" he yelled.
I chuckled and started to read some more.
Before we knew it we were in the sixth chapter and there was a knock on the door downstairs.
That was weird considering that mom and dad usually just walked in, since it was there house.
I walked down the front door and answered the door. It was two police cars.
"How can I help you?" I asked.
The police officer turned to me. "Are you Lola Chille?" he asked.
I nodded. "Yes." I said. The police officers looked at each other an then turned back to me.
"I'm sorry to tell you this, but your parents were in a car accident. They didn't survive." He said.
I felt the tears come to my eyes and the breath out of my lungs.
Byron caught me as I fell back in shock. "SHHHH" said Byron. "They're gone!" I yelled.
Byron nodded. "I know, I'm here for you." He said.
I continued to cry till there were no more tears. The police officers had come in and were waiting for me to come to my senses.
"I'm sorry to tell you this, but because you are a minor, and have no extended family you are going to be put into the foster system." He said.
Byron gasped and turned to me. "You can stay with me and my family. I'm sure they won't mind." He said.
The officer sighed. "I'm afraid you have to come with us." He said.
I turned to Byron. "Come with me." I said in between sniffles. Byron nodded.
"Of course." He said.
The police spoke.
"You can grab a backpack of things and then we will take you to the station."
I nodded and headed upstairs with Byron.
I packed my clothes and some shoes as well as my hairbrush.
I turned around the room to see if there was anything else to bring.
I saw the Lord of the Rings book on my bed and grabbed it.
I had wanted to see what would happen so I brought it with me.
I placed it in my backpack and soon we were off.
Byron held my hand as we entered the police station.
A woman officer walked up to us. "Are you Lola Chilli?" she asked. I nodded.
"OK, well, we have a room where you can rest until a foster home will be available to you." She said.
I nodded and turned to Byron. "You coming?" I asked.
Byron nodded. We walked into the room to see that it was lighted good and that there were two beds we sat on one bed and Byron held me tight. I sighed.
"I wish that my life was different." I said.
Byron nodded. "I know you do." He said. "I'm sorry this happened." He said.
"There is no use in trying to figure out what you did wrong, cause I know you wish you could save them." He said.
I nodded. Byron knew me so well. "Why don't we read some more of the book to distract you." He said.
I nodded and pulled the book out of my bag and we started reading.
We got to chapter 15, but not before we fell asleep.
It had been hours of sleeping and we both were well rested when we woke up.
I looked around to see that we were not in the bed, but on the ground with grass, next to a stream.
I shook Byron. "Wake up! I'm going crazy." I said Byron woke up and sat up.
He then looked around. "Where are we?" I asked.
Byron sighed. "Did we inhale some police coke or something? We have to be tripping." He said.
I nodded and stood up, letting the blanket fall to the ground.
I looked down to see that I was in a dress that looked like it came out of a Medieval movie.
I looked at Byron as he stood up and he was in a tunic and tights.
I sighed and looked around. We were in a meadow of some sort and next to a stream.
Normally, I would be thrilled to see this kind of place and to find peace in nature, but this time I was freaking out.
I looked to Byron and spoke. "Where are we? Why are we dressed like this?" I asked.
Byron sighed. "Your guess is as good as mine." He said.
I looked across the field to see a pathway.
"We should walk on the path and see where it leads." I said.
Byron nodded and we walked through the field. Towards a small town.
We saw a wagon coming our way and an old man driving it.
He stopped next to us and spoke. "Well, Well, Well. What have we hear?" he asked.
I sighed. "I'm Lola and this is Byron." I said.
"Where are we?" I asked.
The man smiled.
"I am Gandalf." He said.
"You two are not from this time or even this world." He said.
I sighed. "How do you know that?" I asked.
Gandalf smiled. "Because I'm a wizard and have been expecting you." He said.
"I saw it." He said. "What are we going to do? I have to get home." I said.
Gandalf sighed. "What do you have to go back to?" he asked.
I sighed and thought a moment. Gandalf was right.
I didn't have anything left to go to, but Byron did and I had to get him back to his loving family. I turned to Byron.
"I have to send you back." I said. Byron stuttered. "No, we are in this together. I won't leave you, I promised." He said.
I sighed and turned to Gandalf. "Can you send him back?" I asked.
Gandalf sighed. "Alas, my dear, I cannot. I don't have the power to do that. But I will tell you this." He said.
Byron and I listened hard. "You cannot go back. Once you come into this world you are part of it forever." He said.
I started to cry and turned to Byron.
"I'm sorry this is all my fault." I said.
Byron looked at me funny and spoke. "How is getting sucked into the magical world your fault?" he asked.
I sighed.
I had been so used to saying sorry that I didn't even realize what I had said.
Byron stroked my hair.
"It's going to be ok. We will find our place here." He said.
I nodded. "Ok." Was all I said. Gandalf took this time to speak.
"Hop abord to my trusty wagon and you can come with me to visit an old friend." He said.
We nodded and climbed up to sit next to Gandalf. "There are some great things coming your way." He said.
I sighed.
I didn't understand what Gandalf meant but soon I would find out.
