Getting a Pokémon is a rite of passage. A sign of responsibility of a child. And for some people, an indication of a child's future.

After all, your first Pokémon is the one you watch most. You study its body language to better understand how you can work with it. A child who grows up with a water Pokémon is not easily going to understand the language of a bird or grass Pokémon.

Some humans have an easier time diversifying their types, but most people have a hard enough time working with different Natured Pokémon of the same species, let alone someone who lives in a completely different way from their first Pokémon.

And there are variations among Pokémon. Some evolve differently depending on their gender. And there's reasons to evolve that he doesn't know the whys of. His friends Tyrouge's had evolved differently, and he has no idea why they did that.

His father had given him an Eevee, and he's not sure how his Pokémon will evolve.

But Whales Rowan is excited to find out.
