May is in the back of a moving truck, because she had taken her mother up on her threat of "get your packing in order or so help me you are riding in the back of the moving truck.

The boxes are secure with bungee cords, and luckily she can sleep anywhere. The back of a moving truck is hardly the loudest place she has taken a floor nap.

When she gets out of the truck, her mom is trying so hard to pretend all is normal. May goes along with it.

Nothing is normal. She misses Home, and this tiny town is a poor substitute. She wishes Norman had gotten a gym job in their home region, so she could at least walk back sometimes. Even Kanto would have been better to walk home from.

But Nooo. Instead she's starting her Pokémon journey in a place she knows nothing about. Thanks Norman.

Not.

She didn't want to move to stupid Littleroot town. But Mom insists.

So here she is.

But mom is getting the silent treatment. So she says nothing.

Silence at least keeps things polite. Mom does not want to hear what she Really has to say, and May Really does not want to hear her mom yell.

So shutting up and going along with it really is the better option.

She inspects the house, then takes the hint to go meet the neighbors.

She doesn't have to talk to the neighbors. She just has to nod.

It does not endear her to Brendan when he automatically assumed she would be a boy.

He must have realized that, as he then changed topics, and tried to ignore her.

She decides to see if that guy watching the tall grass has fallen asleep or something.

She has to get out of this town.

That's when she hears a call for help.

She runs after it, and a Pokémon Professor is running around in the grass.

He insists she take a Pokémon from the abandoned briefcase and rescue him .

May looks down at her choices of Pokémon and finds her first reason to smile all day.
