Before their relationship
12/13 years old

I do not own The Mr. Men Show or any of its characters, but I do own Elizabeth and the idea for this story.

From a distance, the two Mr. Men watched as their friends walked by, going into shops to buy a gift for someone or themselves, or going into restaurants alone or with a group. The light green Mr. Man didn't miss anything. He wondered where Little Miss Scary was going with Mr. Bounce; he wondered what Mr. Bump just bought from Mr. Scatterbrain's store. Then he noticed Mr. Grumpy disappearing into a sit down restaurant and wondered if he was waiting for someone or if he was eating alone.

Maybe we should go see if he wants company, Mr. Nosy thought. He glanced down at his small friend. "Let's go eat with Mr. Grumpy," he said.

"Sure," Mr. Small agreed.

They walked across the street and entered the restaurant, spotting Mr. Grumpy sitting alone at a table. Joining him, Mr. Nosy smiled at him, while Mr. Small tipped his hat to him.

Mr. Grumpy sighed. "What do you two want?" he demanded.

"We wanted to see if you needed someone to eat with," Mr. Small said politely.

"No," Mr. Grumpy said. "Now go away."

"But—" Mr. Nosy tried to protest, but Mr. Grumpy glared at him, and he sighed. "Okay," he muttered. "Come on, Mr. Small." Turning away, he left the restaurant and waited for his friend outside.

"What now?" Mr. Small asked once he joined the light green Mr. Man.

Mr. Nosy thought for a moment, and as he hesitated he saw Mr. Rude walking by. Wondering where he was going, he ran to catch up. "Hey, Mr. Rude!" he called.

Mr. Rude stopped and looked up, his eyes narrowing when he saw the best friends hurrying to him. "What?" he asked with an attitude.

Mr. Nosy frowned. He was just curious to know what he was doing. What was with their friends today? Well Mr. Grumpy and Mr. Rude are never really nice, he reminded himself. But still he couldn't stop himself from asking," Whatcha doin today, Mr. Rude?"

"None of your business," Mr. Rude snapped, and before Mr. Nosy could say anything else, Mr. Rude turned and stomped off.

Mr. Nosy sighed. He wondered who he could talk to that wouldn't lose their patience with him. Then he spotted Mr. Happy and Little Miss Sunshine. Brightening, he ran over to them.

"Hey, Mr. Happy, Miss. Sunshine," he greeted them with a grin.

"Oh… um… hey, Mr. Nosy," said Mr. Happy, sharing a look with Little Miss Sunshine just as Mr. Small caught up to Mr. Nosy.

"What are you two doing today?" Mr. Nosy asked.

"Oh… um…" Little Miss Sunshine hesitated.

"We would love to stay and chat," Mr. Happy said in a hurry, starting to push the Little Miss down the sidewalk. "But we have a very important appointment that we can't miss."

"Sorry!" Little Miss Sunshine called as they retreated. "See you later!"

Mr. Nosy stared after them, not even trying to hide how miserable he felt. Mr. Small must have noticed because he asked," What's wrong, Nose?"

"It's just… Don't you feel like nobody has time for us anymore?" Mr. Nosy turned to his friend, frowning worriedly.

"Oh, I'm sure it's not that," Mr. Small assured him. "You know how Mr. Grumpy and Mr. Rude are. And as for Mr. Happy and Miss. Sunshine, they had somewhere to be. They didn't mean anything personal. Cheer up, Nose," he added. "Why don't we go home and have lunch?"

Mr. Nosy nodded and followed his friend back to the observatory where they lived. They fixed a quick lunch and ate at the table in silence. Mr. Nosy was still upset about their friends not having any time for them and after finishing lunch he announced that he was going to take a nap.

"Are you okay?" Mr. Small asked, looking at his friend with concern.

"Maybe I'll feel better after a nap," Mr. Nosy replied. He was aware of Mr. Small following him as he walked across the living room to their bedroom, but the small man stopped by the couch.

"I'll just watch a little TV," he said, and Mr. Nosy nodded, entering their bedroom alone. He walked over to his bed, laying down. He was just dozing off when a flash of light brought him back to consciousness. Blinking his eyes open, he turned to see their closet glowing. It shone brightly for a moment longer before going out.

Mr. Nosy just stared at it, unmoving for several seconds. Then he climbed out of bed and hurried over there. He hesitated at first, but then curiosity got the best of him. He opened the door and gasped.

Instead of seeing the back of the closet, he found himself looking into a bedroom, but it wasn't like the one he shared with his best friend. There was something strange about it that he couldn't quite understand. Suddenly he felt an unseen force pulling himself forward, but he fought against it. He didn't want to go through right away. First he had to tell his best friend.

"Mr. Small!" he called to the small man, unable to keep a mix of excitement and fear out of his voice.

He heard the sound of rapid footsteps and then Mr. Small burst into the room, skidding to a halt beside his friend. "What?" he panted.

"Look!" Mr. Nosy gestured to the closet.

Mr. Small glanced sideways casually, then whipped around, eyes wide. "What!" he exclaimed. "W-What did you do?"

"N-Nothing!" Mr. Nosy stammered. "I was just laying down and then there was this flash of light, and then this!" He gazed into the other room inside the closet again, heart racing with fear and wonder. He felt that mysterious force again and before he could stop himself, he went through. The world seemed to shift around him, then he was stumbling into the unknown.

Amazed, he looked around the room. The bed was pushed off to one side. An entertainment center stood as tall as him, and on it, all around the TV, was folders and papers. He was about to go through the mess when a voice behind him startled him.

"Best not to mess with that," Mr. Small told him. "It doesn't look steady. It might all come crashing down."

"Okay." Mr. Nosy looked around some more. He noticed a folder on the bed and went over there, opening it. Paper with writing on it was inside it, and, curious, he looked through the pages, scanning each paper carefully. It was a story about a young girl who tried fitting in with society, but it was apparent that something was wrong with her. However, the story ended so abruptly that he didn't get a chance to find out what was wrong with her.

Disappointed, he set the story down, but before he could continue to snoop, the sound of footsteps made him jump. He turned to a second door in the room which he guessed led into the rest of the house. He was on the edge of panicking when Mr. Small grabbed his hand and pulled him into the closet.

Keeping the door open just a crack, Mr. Nosy peeked out. A girl walked into the room and he watched her curiously as she started to climb onto the bed but then froze and looked down at the papers Mr. Nosy had looked through. She hesitated for a moment or two, then looked around, her eyes landing on the closet door.

"Quick, come on," Mr. Small said in a voice barely loud enough to hear as the girl started walking toward them. He pulled Mr. Nosy by the hand out of the closet and back into their own bedroom.

Once back home, Mr. Small closed the closet door and Mr. Nosy stared at it, amazed at what he just saw. Very slowly, he tore his gaze away from the door and looked down at his best friend; Mr. Small also seemed stunned at what just happened.

Finally, Mr. Nosy broke the silence. "What was that?" he asked in a quiet voice.

Mr. Small blinked a few times. "I-I'm not… sure," he stammered. Then he cleared his throat and added," But it was certainly strange."

"I want to go back!" Mr. Nosy reached for the doorknob, but Mr. Small stopped him.

"She'll still be there," the small man told him. "Let's wait a bit for her to leave. Besides," he went on," how will we get back? What exactly happened last time?"

Mr. Nosy shrugged. "I told you: I was laying down and there was a flash of light and when I went to see what had happened, that room was there." He glanced at their closet curiously, wondering if they'd ever get back.

Who was that girl? he thought. She wasn't a Little Miss I know….

For the rest of the afternoon, Mr. Nosy stayed in their bedroom in case the light appeared again, while Mr. Small paced the house anxiously. They rarely talked to each other, only to ask if the other was doing okay.

Finally, around dinner time, Mr. Nosy noticed a flash of light in the corner of his eye and he turned, excitement running through him. He hurried to the closet and opened the door. He found himself staring into the room again. "Mr. Small!" he called, and his best friend joined him.

Poking his head in the closet, Mr. Small looked around. Then he gestured to Mr. Nosy, and they entered the room. There was no sign of the girl. Throwing caution to the wind, the nosy Mr. Man walked over to the bed and looked down at the folders there. He picked them up and took out the paper, looking over the story. The girl, whoever she was, had added to it, and he read it eagerly. But again, it stopped so abruptly that it left him wanting more.

While he read the story, he noticed his best friend gazing around the room, and as he finished reading, Mr. Small suddenly gasped and turned to Mr. Nosy. "Come on," he whispered, grabbing his hand and dragging him back to the closet.

Mr. Nosy guessed the girl was coming, and he allowed his friend to pull him into the closet. He just barely managed to close the door behind him and when they were in their bedroom again, Mr. Small finally let go of him.

The small man let out a sigh. "Perhaps we shouldn't go back there," he said. "It could be dangerous, and we don't know what would happen if she caught us. Come on, let's get dinner."

Mr. Nosy glanced at the closet longingly. He didn't know why but he felt a strong pull to the other room and the girl. But he decided not to say anything to his best friend about it. He followed Mr. Small out of their house and down the sidewalk, heading to a restaurant to get something to eat. The whole time, though, his mind was on the girl and her bedroom that was in their closet. There were so many questions left unanswered and he was desperate to get the answers to them.
