As Susannah rested with Toto in bed, William showed Julia the traces of the flower, he found in the soup, "how would she know what Susannah was allergic to, or how she would react?"

"I haven't the foggiest"

As they continued talking, Susannah woke up, overhearing their conversation, "I know why"

They turned towards her, "how?" They asked

"Well, remember, I brought the bouquet of flowers to her, as my way of saying a sorry?"

"Yes, well I began sneezing and I asked her what she was growing, and noticed the chrysanthemums"

"That's how she knew about your allergies?" William asked

"Yes, daddy."

"Ok. That solves one mystery, but why harm you?" Julia asked

Susannah shrugged, "I always figured because of Toto, but I think something else is going on"

"Go on" William said

"A couple of days, ago, Mr. Thompson told me about how he was planning a special trip for Mrs. Thompson. To celebrate their anniversary, but I think she has been hurting him, because every time I saw him he had many bruises and scars. But he told me, he remains married to her, because of what happened to their son, Kyle, who died 8 years ago. But the other day I came by and she informed me, he was out of town for a couple of days. But, he wasn't planning on leaving to plan the surprise for another week"

She continued telling of how Toto pulled her towards the porch, "what's strange is the fence under the porch has never been there and I smelled something bad, which she said was a dead raccoon. But the next day, I brought the flowers, I noticed 2 things, her apron, looked all dirty with strange stains and the huge garden. But, Mr. Thompson said, she wasn't much a gardener. She loved flowers but hated gardening"

William nodded, "well, I'll get uncle George to get a warrant to search the house. But can I ask for a favor?"

"What, daddy?"

"Can I take, Toto with me to see if he reacts the same way?"

"Sure"

"Thank you. Come on, boy" he said as Toto jumped off the bed and walked along with William

They got a warrant within, an hr, and brought along Watts and McNabb. As they arrived to the house, Toto pulled again, "detective, what are you and that mutt doing here?" Mrs. Thompson said as she came running out of her house

George showed her the warrant, "if have a warrant to search your house and yard."

"This is ridiculous. If this is about your daughter, she is a little liar"

William not paying attention as Toto continued to pull him, as they got to the fence under the porch, and noticed the fence was made very fast and crooked, and got a whiff of something bad.

"Detective…like I told your daughter. It's a dead raccoon"

"Madam, stay back" George said

William and Watts pulled back the fence, and Toto sneaked under the porch and began digging, and pulled a dark satchel out of the dirt, towards William.

"Good boy" William said as he held his breath from the smell.

"I swear, detective it's a raccoon. Just leave my house."

Still not paying attention to her as he opened the satchel and saw Mr. Thompson's head

"Well, we found the head, where's the rest of the body?" Watts said

Toto took off, into the garden and digged in different spots, until they found the whole body.

"That mutt, I'm going to kill him!" Mrs. Thompson screamed and ran towards Toto, as William grabbed her arm, "don't you dare. Mrs. Thompson, you're under arrest for the murder of your husband and the attempted murder of my daughter. George take her to the station house"

"Sir. Come on."

"No! I can explain!" She screamed but he didn't care to hear

It was 20 minutes later, George came back from the station, after locking up Mrs. Thompson, as the men and Toto searched the house.

"Why, go all this trouble, to harming Susannah and killing her husband?" Watts asked

William found letters, "this could explain it"

As the men reviewed the letters, Toto began barking at a chest, "what is it boy?" William asked, as he picked the lock of the chest and opened the lid, and saw the nurses outfit and stained apron, "good, boy"

A couple of hours later, after gathering all the evidence, William sat in the interrogation room, as they brought Mrs. Thompson, "it's about time detective"

"Sit down and shut up" William said

She gasp, "how dare you, talk to me that way!"

"There are many more ways, I would love to talk to you, but I would have to go to confession"

She gasped, "I guess the apple doesn't far from the tree."

He smirks and shows her all the evidence they found, "you murdered your husband, and tried to kill my daughter…I wondered, why do, until we found the answers in all these letters from a Maisie Logan's"

"The whore my husband was having an affair with…" she said in a snooty voice

"They weren't having an affair. Maisie Logan is your sister in law."

"That's absurd. His sister name is Margaret Thompson."

"We contacted Maisie and yes on her birth certificate it's Margaret Thompson. But Maisie is her nickname and she got married a few months ago. But you wouldn't know that because you never would see his side of the family. She was also concerned of why Stephen never got back to her about the plans he had for you."

"The plans?"

William grabbed a letter, "this letter, mentioned plans"

"I read them and thought he would leave me"

"He was planning a special anniversary gift for you."

"He wouldn't do such a thing. He's too much of a cheapskate to do anything special for me"

He grabs another letter, and shows her, "this letter shows, he was planning a trip to California. Since that's where you're from…right?"

"I am, but why get Maisie…Margaret or whatever, why get her involved?"

"She's a party planner in California, and helping him make this the best gift."

She sits back, "I can't believe he would do this…"

"Maisie didn't even want to help him, after what you have put him through since Kyle's death"

She glared at him, "don't you ever say his name!"

"Why? Why never talk about your son? Which I am sorry about, dying at such a young age"

"It's Stephen fault he's killed! I told him not to take Kyle to the sawmill. But of course, never listens to me, and he wasn't paying attention and my boy got…"

"He was sawed, wasn't he?"

She nodded and began crying, "from the forehead down to the stomach. I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye"

"Well we found this other letter, your husband wrote multiple times…I guess trying to explain what happened." He says and slides the letter over to her

She opens the letter and reads it, seconds later she drops it on the table, "it's my fault, he's killed"

"Sorry?"

"I told Kyle, he should wear the overalls at the mill, but Stephen said it would be risky because his left strap always got loose" as she sobbed more into her hankerchief, "it's my fault, my boy is gone, and he took the blame"

William nodded, "again very sorry."

"All this time, I thought he hated me, or we hated each other. I admit, I snapped when I saw the letters, and wanted my revenge on Kyle's death."

"So you, called up your brother, who's a butcher, to ask for his saw and knives, eh?"

She nodded, "how did you know, that?"

"Susannah, noticed your apron, and the strange stains, and she remembered your husband mentioned your brother was a butcher."

"You didn't tell him?"

"Yes, I did"

"Did he say anything?"

"Only, you ruined his best saw"

She sit back in her seat, as he continued, "so, after you killed your husband and buried him under the porch, you used his money to put together a garden to bury his body parts. When she came by and began sneezing, from the flowers. So, you came up with the plan with putting traces of the flower into the soup, nearly killing her. When I saw you on the street and informed you of my test, you wanted to make it look like Toto was the culprit. So, you got out your old nurses uniform, and brought in the bouquet of flowers into her room, while Toto was in the bed with her. Then you tried to inject her with morphine, but weren't successful and took off. Does that sound about right?"

She nodded, "but how did your daughter know it was me?"

"You told Toto to shut up, and called him a mutt. You're the only person who calls him that"

She mutters the word, "shit" and slams the table, "well, he truly is."

"I have to admit, I didn't like him when we got him. But if it wasn't for him, my daughter would be dead and you would free"

She slams her hands on the table again, and mutters, "shit" again

"You will be sentenced to hang, but you deserve so much more than that." He says with a grin as he gets up, and calls for McNabb, who takes her away
