It was a dismal night, as a human Kat walked through the streets of LA, not knowing where to go. Back in Mystic Falls months ago, she'd been turned into a human unwillingly. She didn't know where she belonged anymore, so she'd been going place to place, alone, hoping that she could figure out what to do. And that her enemies or any supernatural species wouldn't come after her. She wasn't sure she'd stand a chance against anything supernatural. She was nothing more than a human doppelganger, which also so happened to be descended from Travelers. She'd briefly met her vampire daughter, but she'd been killed by a hybrid bite. She felt alone now. Elijah had left her when she'd still been a vampire, so he was with his family, not knowing what had happened to her. Damon was only trustworthy to a point with her, and he hated her. She'd never told him that her breaking his heart had been her saving him from possibly being killed by Klaus, because she'd been afraid that he'd kill Damon for loving her. Everyone else in the world hated or wanted her dead. Minus a few selective people that still cared about if she lived or not.

Kat had been walking for a while through the streets, when she got pinned in an alley against a brick wall by a vampire. Not her kind of vampire, though. It was the kind of vampire that she'd known centuries ago. Angel's kind of vampire. Or, when he didn't have a soul, Angelus. Most humans would be terrified, but she wasn't exactly.

The vamped out male bent his head to bite her.

She looked to see some pieces of wood inside an open tin can. She grabbed a piece of wood. Then used all her human strength she had to push him away. Then, before he could lunge, she staked him with the piece of wood, killing him.

She dropped the piece of wood, before leaving the alley. After getting attacked by this kind of vampire, she had an idea on what to do. She'd see where Angel was currently. If she was lucky, he was in LA. This vampire she'd been able to deal with, but what if she'd had to deal with a much older vampire? She wasn't stupid. She knew she couldn't win a fight alone with an old vampire. And despite having not seen each other in centuries, she and Angel were friends. Distant, but friends. Surely, he'd help her.

After she'd looked around for a while, she found where he was. Then approached the office building, before finding the correct office. Then she opened the door, where she immediately saw a couple people. Because she'd kept some tabs on Angel in the present century, she knew who one of them was. The rich girl from Sunnydale High School, back in California. The one that had never quite fit into Buffy's line of expertise. But now, here she was.

"Cordelia?"

"Katherine," she simply stated.

"I'm here looking for Angel. Where is he?" Kat replied and wanted to know.

"He's downstairs," Cordy told her. "Can't imagine why you'd want to see him after all this time, though. Where were you a year ago?"

"I kept tabs on him somewhat from a distance, but I had things I had to do," she told her truthfully. "Before I go see Angel, who's this?"

"My name's Doyle," he introduced himself.

"Well, nice to meet you. I'll probably be seeing you two around," Kat said. Then, she walked passed, and she eventually found the way down to the basement. Then she knocked on his door.

After a moment, he opened it to see a face from his past. Mostly, his good past, though.

"Katherine?"

She gave a smile.

"It's me. Is it okay if I come in?"

He stepped out of the way.

"Of course."

She came inside.

He closed the door. Then turned around to look at her, needing to find out why a face of the past was here. He could sense that she wasn't a vampire anymore, which was a little confusing, since, as far as he knew, there was no cure for being a vampire.

"Why are you here? It's been centuries. Now, you're here, and clearly no longer a vampire. I didn't think that was possible."

"It came to all of our attentions in Mystic Falls months ago that a cure for vampirism existed. I screwed up. I lied to Elijah for once in centuries, so he left me for his family. I was angry, and I took it out on my doppelganger, Elena. Because of that, she shoved it down my throat. It turned me human, so I didn't know what to do after that. Then my daughter my father tore from my arms found me. But then a hybrid, not Klaus, bit her. She just wanted me to be happy, so I respected her wish not to ask for the cure, even though it hurt. I didn't know where to go after losing Nadia, and pretty much everyone in the world either hates me or wants me dead. After realizing that you were in this city, I figured I'd come here. We were close friends once, and I hoped we still are, even if it's been centuries. Now that I'm human, I need someone that can protect me. Someone not human. Apart from maybe Elijah, I have nowhere else to turn to. And I hear you help people as a business now. It's what you do."

"I'll protect you, and you can stay here for a little while, but eventually, you'll need to find a place to stay," he replied, being generous, but not wanting her to stay too long. They were friends, but they had also once been a fling while he'd been with Darla eons ago. He didn't want old feelings stirring.

"Fair enough," she agreed with him.

*Flashback-1700's*

Darla and Angelus were at a party in London together, having a blast, per usual. At the same party, Katherine was there, alone. She approached where they were, feeding.

"Fancy seeing you here. You've been all over. Quite popular, more so than myself. I'm Katherine Pierce. I know who both of you are. I make it my business to know things and people. I gotta say. I'm quite impressed. Might I join you? If you've got enough to spare."

Kat gave a smile at them.

"Of course, you can join us," Angelus replied, and then gave a smile. "Wouldn't you say, Darla?"

"Three is always a party. I'd say yes. She's welcome to share," Darla replied.

Kat gave a smile, glad that they'd said yes. Even if they were different vampires than she was. They all needed to feed, and they all needed some kind of companionship, even if they only allowed it for a night.

*Flashback-1900*

Kat had been seeing Angelus struggling, feeding on live rodents to survive, so she was curious as to what had happened since she'd last seen him and Darla. And so, she followed him into an alley, where he was sitting against a wall, seeming to be in pain, but didn't look to be physically injured.

"Well, this is new," she commented, as she approached. "What happened to you?"

"I killed someone the gypsies loved, so they cursed me with a soul a couple years ago. I can't live like this. Darla was right. I'm nothing now. I can't feed on humans anymore without remorse," he informed her.

She knelt in front of him.

"Let me help you, then. No vampire should live like the lowest of the lowest humans. A vampire shouldn't be looking for scraps just to survive. You need to know how to survive with a soul. Let me show you how we do that. We'll just have to adapt to the no human blood part. Or feeding straight from the vein."

"You'd do that for me?" he inquired. He'd never experienced someone to be this kind in such a long time. And he hadn't gotten to know her well enough when he'd been Angelus to know her as a friend. Just an acquaintance.

"Of course. We vampires have to look out for each other," Kat replied with a smile.

Shortly after, Angel accepted, so she helped him learn to live with a soul, and to live without feeding on humans or human blood. Instead, he learned that he liked rodent blood. So, that's what he chose to live on from then on.

*End Of Flashback*

Kat went over and sat in his chair.

"Since I haven't exactly had a place to stay for these several months, would it be okay if I use your shower? After that, I can make myself scarce if you want."

"Yes. Of course," he replied to her question. "But look. You're welcome here. You can take the bed. I'll take the couch. For as long as it takes for you to find your own place."

"If this is going to be too awkward for you, what about Cordelia's place, wherever she's living at? Or Doyle's? I could bunk with one of them," Kat offered, getting the sense of some kind of awkwardness with her being in his place.

"Cordy doesn't know this, but Doyle. He's half demon and half human. Maybe he could help you find some place," Angel informed her, as well as offered.

"Sounds like a plan, then. Because I clearly don't have any money as a human. Doyle could find me a place, and then maybe you could hire me like you did Cordelia and Doyle."

"I didn't exactly have a plan in hiring those two. Look, I was sort of off track after I left Sunnydale. I left Buffy to give her a better life, but it still hurts. Doyle came to me, and he helped me remember who I am. That I'm more than just a vampire that saves people from danger. It was Cordelia's idea to turn it into a business. Between Doyle's visions and what I do, it works," he explained to her.

"Well, however it happened, it still happened," she replied. "You'll just have to get used to it. And about Buffy. I'm sure you probably did what was best for her. Don't feel too guilty about it. Everyone deserves at least some kind of happiness. But I am sorry for the two of you. As I understand, you two had something special."

She gave a smile at that last part, and then got up from his chair. She got what she needed, and then went to get ready.

After she'd gotten ready and such, she came upstairs, where she'd originally come from, and where she saw that Doyle still was. She saw that it seemed like Cordy must've gone home for the night.

"Doyle, right? Angel says you might be able to find me a place. Don't worry. I won't say anything. But I guess you're what I'd call a hybrid. Half and half. I used to be a vampire, so nothing really surprises me anymore. As a vampire, I used my abilities to get things I needed. I don't have any money, but Angel's more or less said that he'd allow me to work here with you all. That should help me be able to at least keep a place."

"Yeah. I could do that. I know a guy," he replied to her. "You're the first vampire to ever be turned into a human, though. How'd that happen?"

"Long story. Maybe after you find me a place, I'll tell you. Hopefully, a place that's say, maybe a little fancy, but not too much. If you get what I mean."

She gave a smile.

"I think I could manage that," he told her.

"Great. I'll expect to start looking for a place tomorrow. Angel's letting me stay for tonight."

"Of course," he replied.

That night, she slept in Angel's bed, while he slept on the couch, once he'd been finished with a case that night.
