The Next Morning:

The sunlight filtered into Dr. Nambu's office as Ken and Jun stood before him, their expressions resolute but calm. The decision had been made, and now it was time to convey it.

Dr. Nambu sat behind his desk, his gaze sharp and knowing as he looked between the two of them. "I trust you've both had time to think about my offer."

Ken nodded. "We have."

Nambu's expression remained unreadable. "And your decision?"

Jun stepped forward first, her voice steady and clear. "I've decided to stay, Dr. Nambu. I can't leave the team. This is where I belong."

Ken spoke next, his words mirroring her conviction. "We've agreed to keep things as they are. I can't let her leave, and I don't want to jeopardize the team by allowing any personal distractions. The mission comes first."

Dr. Nambu studied them both for a long moment, his fingers steepled together. Finally, he nodded, his expression softening just slightly. "I respect your decision. But I want you both to remember that the choices you make now will have consequences. You've chosen to remain on the team, and with that comes a responsibility to keep your personal lives in check."

Ken and Jun both nodded, fully aware of the weight of those words.

"Understood," Ken replied firmly.

"Good," Nambu said, standing. "Then we'll leave it at that. But know that if anything changes, my door is always open."

As they left his office, Ken and Jun walked side by side in silence, the decision they had made hanging between them. It wasn't the best solution, and they both knew it. But for now, it was the only path they could take.

In the end, Ken and Jun both knew they had made a selfish choice. They had chosen to stay close, to remain in each other's lives, even if it meant leaving things unresolved. They had chosen the safety of familiarity over the uncertainty of change. And in that choice, they found comfort.

It wasn't perfect. It wasn't easy. But it was theirs.

And that, for now, was enough.
