Author's Note: I'd just like to say there's a part that talks about suicide/suicidal thoughts in this chapter. I hope it doesn't dissuade many of you from reading this but I thought I should say something. Despite that, I hope you enjoy the next (very long awaited) chapter of Ending of a King's Reign. Thanks for staying with me and my inconsistency in updating. You're all the MVP's!

Ending of a King's Reign

Chapter 16 – Malice

The moonlight was peering into people's houses – gifting an ever so gentle light to everyone. The crispy night air brushed itself against Red's face. Red was currently on his way to pick up Green. He was worried. He didn't want Green to run into Jesse and James because he wouldn't know what to say – and he wasn't ready for Green to know what his job really was about. Red bit his lip and stopped in his tracks. His eyes darted up to the moon.

He really, really didn't want to mess things up and have Green hate him. He loved him so much – but those five years that Green was in jail caused Red to transform into someone completely different.

Red sometimes couldn't even recognize himself. Looking in the mirror was like seeing a more serious and glazed eyed Red – and Red never cared for his looks but the way his eyes lacked life when he wasn't around Green always caused a sense of emptiness in him. His mother knew it too and would always tried to get him back to his old self but nothing worked.

Red was empty. He was hurting. Red was left alone without his best friend and the man he loved dearly the day Green was sentenced to jail. Even if Green was an asshole to him, Red knew deep down Green still cared about him. Green would show his affection in unconventional ways you could say – Berating him , bullying him and harassing him when they were younger. Red would always end up crying and Green would always end up apologizing hastily and trying to calm Red down.
When they got older, they drifted apart due to Green's ego and Red's feelings. Green couldn't help but feel inferior to Red so he'd always put him down. Red, despite Green's harsh and cruel words, loved him so much it made his heart ache whenever he realized Green didn't want to be around him anymore.

And on that fateful day, where Green and Red last battled, Red was broken. He desperately wanted Green to see that he could be his equal – that they were on the same page. The same boat. Despite their personality differences, they were the only ones able to understand each other. Red just wanted his old friend back. He didn't care if he'd have to harbor his feelings forever and never act on them – he just wanted the one person that could truly understand him back.

But Green didn't want Red back. He didn't want Red to be his equal. He was jealous of Red. He wanted Red out of the picture and left alone – he felt worthless around Red and was hoping this battle would separate any last ties between. He was hoping to win and show Red that he didn't need his pity and his forlorn looks. Their friendship brought them both great memories to forever cherish – but Green didn't want to be held back by memories and friendship. He wanted to be recognized as the best trainer ever – and he knew that Red would always be the better trainer and it ate away at his soul.

But Green had practiced and he was determined to eradicate anything between them – but then, Green lost. Green dropped to his knees and his hands grasped onto the ground beneath them for support. His arms shook and his eyes stung with dust and tears. He took a breath and looked up and over to Red – his eyes were like a match. The fire and compassion he showed during the whole battle had burnt out – the life was draining from them. Green took this look as Red pittying him and mocking him – but Red felt no joy in this battle nor victory.

He knew he has pushed Green further away from him – and he couldn't have thrown the battle he knew Green would figure that out. He was left with no choice but to crush and defeat the man he loved – the only person to truly ever be there for him and understand him.

Green abruptly stood up and brushed himself off. He glowered at Red, tears starting to stream down his face. His eyes screamed with anguish and madness while Red's continued to waver with smoke. Green turned his back to Red. Red rushed over and went to grab Green's shoulder but Green quickly turned back around and punched Red right in the cheek. Red went barreling down to the ground and held his face in pain and grunted in agony. He raised his eyes to Green's – and pure malice start to permeate his bones. Green glowered at him and spoke.

"I never want to see you again, Red".

Green turned. He was slouched and stomped away. Red's eyes started to gleam and glisten with pure sadness. He had just lost the only person he ever wanted in his life. Red shook his head.

"No, I need Green. I can't live without him," Red cried out. Red started to shake and bawl hysterically. He pushed himself off the ground and ran into the woods. He tripped and rolled down an embankment and just laid there. Dirty and in tears, he just didn't care anymore. He wanted to die.

What's the point in living if you can't have the one you need the most with you?

Red looked around the woods and ended up seeing a vine. Red dusted himself off and glanced at the vine once more. It looked rather sturdy. Red felt his throat go dry. His hands were starting to sweat – could he? Could he kill himself? Red's eyes darted back and forth between the way he fell and the vine. He wanted to die but his rational side of his mind started to kick in telling him it wasn't worth dying over.

Red took a breath – and he trudged up the embankment. No matter how hurt he was he knew taking his own life would never truly stop the pain. He'd end up just causing heart ache for his mother – and he didn't want that. Red stayed silent as he continued back to Pallet town. He had lost track of time. He was at the entrance to Pallet town when he heard sirens and people clambering around Green's house. Red's eyes shot open and he sprinted over to the crowd. He shoved and pushed his way to the front of the crowd and his jaw dropped.

Green was being arrested. Green had blood all over him. Green kept still and quiet – as if he was just as broken as Red. Red started to walk towards the police car when he heard a faint and gurgled yelp. It was from a Pokemon. Specifically, and Eevee. Red's eyes darted to the noise and he dropped to his knees. Red couldn't believe his eyes. Before him laid a beaten and bloodied Eevee. Red gasped and a policeman ran over and grabbed him, pushing him back into the crowd.

"That Eevee needs medical attention! Please stay back while we handle this atrocity!" the policeman bellowed out as he shoved Red. Red took the shove and fell down – his knees were weak and couldn't hold him up anymore. A few people gasped and some even started to yell at the policeman. Others starting looking over and that's when Red heard it. Someone was yelling his name. Everything turned silent. It was all just a murmur – except for the person yelling his name. The voice stood out to him and it made his ear's melt in delight. Green was yelling his name. Red glanced over and saw Green, forcing himself against the policemen trying to shove him into the police car. Green's eyes flashed with intimidation yet they had a sense of sadness in them. Red's eyes started to tear up.

"You caused this, Red! You made me do this to them. Damn you, Red!" Green hollered out. A policeman smashed Green's head against the police car during the struggle and stunned him a bit. Green was shoved into the car and within seconds they drove off. Red was standing there. The noise and people around him all spun around him in a daze. He felt sick. He felt lonely. He felt broken.

He was fractured beyond repair and couldn't do anything to save himself.

He had caused all of this. Red stood there, bawled up his fists and turned around. He returned to his house and ran to his room. He slammed the door shut, locked the door and flopped down onto his bed. He had no will to live. He closed his eyes and thought of that sturdy vine in the woods. Perhaps he should have killed himself.

Red shook his head. He didn't like randomly thinking of the past. Specially now that it was irrelevant. Red's eyes shone with a hint of malice at the thought of losing Green again. He furrowed his brow. He wouldn't let anyone stop him from having his happy ending.

Not even if Green found out his horrid jobs he did in the past. Not even if Green found out he was the Head for the Laboratory and Science Department for Team Rocket. Not even if Green could somehow put together the millions of people's ashes Red caused would he let Green no longer love him. He'd made Green stay with him. Forever. He loved Green – and Green wasn't going anywhere.

Red cracked a wicked smile and continued onto town. He couldn't wait to see the man he loved so dearly.

End of Chapter 16

Author's Note – I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Red is not as innocent or well-minded as he seems. He's a bit lovesick! I thank you all for following, favoriting and commenting on my story! I really do appreciate it! Thanks again. Also, I'm sorry this chapter is much shorter than my previous ones. I felt this was perfect for this chapter and didn't want to drawl it out.
