Summary: Set in S1 when Angel was turned human. What if human Kat knew him in the past when they'd both been vampires? Back when he struggled to survive when gypsies gave him a cursed soul. When she ends up in LA after he was turned human, what will happen?

It was a dismal night, as a human Kat appeared in LA after escaping a prison world. After dying of old age, she'd ended up in a prison world. Now, she'd found a way out. She wondered why she'd been brought to LA, though. She'd been thinking of New Orleans when she'd escaped. And so, she put the ascendant away, before walking around to figure out why.

After a while of walking through the LA streets, she heard a familiar voice from afar. She could also hear the familiar sound of a fight. And something that sounded big and probably to a normal person, scary. Since she knew in this world that demons existed, she assumed that's what it was.

She began to follow the sounds towards a dark, abandoned area that had pipes almost everywhere. Then she saw the scene. He was getting his ass kicked by the demon. That was unusual to her, since he usually could win a fight.

She began to approach from behind, before making herself known.

"Hey! Leave him alone!"

The demon turned around and looked at her, pipe still in hand.

"Smash the jewel on its forehead. It's the only way to stop it from regenerating itself," Angel informed her, as the demon began to approach her, as Angel lay on his side in pain from getting his ass kicked by the demon.

When she heard that from Angel, she used her active Traveler magic to toss it to the ground and then grabbed the pipe it lost, before using it to stabbed into the jewel, destroying it. Then she used the pipe to stab into the demon, killing it.

She rushed over to where he still lay, which was when she realized why he wasn't on his feet yet. She realized that like her, he was human now.

She knelt by him.

"How about I get you home."

"Sounds good to me," Angel replied to her.

A little while later, with her arm around him, helping him, she entered with him into the building they worked at, before taking the elevator down to where he lived. Then, she helped him sit on his bed, before going and getting a kit to help with any physical injuries he might have gotten. She wasn't like Freya. She couldn't heal magically.

She soon returned and sat by him, tending to him. If she was anyone else, he probably would've rejected this, but she knew that he knew she wouldn't take no for an answer. At least, not in this situation.

"What the hell happened? You're a human now," she wanted to know.

"The demon you killed had regeneration powers. When I touched the goo he left behind in the sewers earlier, it turned me into a human."

"Interesting. As you can see, I'm human, too. I tried to kill my doppelganger in vengeance for ruining what I had with Elijah, only to find out that the cure was in her pocket the whole time. She grabbed it from her pocket and shoved it down my throat. That was a long time ago, though. After the cure got sucked out of me by an immortal named Silas, before Silas got taken down, I aged rapidly and died of old age. Then I ended up in a prison world. There, I learned to make my Traveler magic active to protect myself against the psycho witch Kai. I don't know how to become a vampire again, since last time I was human, I couldn't digest vampire blood. I might be stuck human for the rest of whatever lives I have left. For you, I think this is a good thing. A sign that you've been rewarded for trying to make up for your past transgressions."

"What if I don't want this reward? I was never cut out to be a human in the first place. What makes this any better?" he replied.

"It's a completely different century. Besides, now that you're human, unlike me, you can do whatever you want to," she told him. "You have plenty of options. And I'm sure you'll find a way to still take care of the bad guys even as a human. I've learned to. Even when I didn't know I could have magic."

"It just doesn't feel right being human," he admitted to her. After all, she'd been a friend to him since she'd helped him adjust to having a soul centuries ago.

"You know how I felt when I was turned into a human before I died? Ashamed to have been beaten by a baby vampire. Afraid of enemies that would love to do whatever they want with me. Alone, even. But now I'm used to being human a little bit more than when I first got turned into a human. I used to feel like I could never be a proper human, but I figured it out. You can, too. You still have any support you need from me. Just like always," she replied and reminded him. She finished with him and put the kit on his end table, before telling him, "You should lay down for a while. I've been around a Vampire Hunter too long. I know how it is when someone gets their ass kicked by something stronger than them. I've seen it too many times. If you need me, you know how to get a hold of me."

She got up and headed out of his room towards the elevator that was upstairs.

Angel did as he was told, as he watched her leave. He knew what she'd told him was right, but he still didn't like being human. In his perspective, being human meant he couldn't help anyone anymore, nor take down any big bads anymore. But if she thought he could do it, then he had to try.

When she entered the top level of the building that they worked at, she walked around, looking at everything silently. Then she went to the office she assumed to be his and sat down in the office chair. Until something else came up, she didn't have anything else to do, thankfully. But at least one of her favorite vampires would be okay. He'd eventually heal and live. In the meantime, she'd do things for him while he healed the human way, since she knew it could be a while.

In the end, Kat helped Angel learn to be human and fight as a human. They even fought alongside each other. And so, they eventually got their happy ending together.
