Chapter 17: Trapped

Everest huddled in the back of the gangs van. Her paws were bound together with an iron chain and a burlap sack was over her head. The van bumped along for quite some time, Everest wasn't sure how long they drove. Finally after what seemed to e an eternity, the van stopped and the back door was opened. Everest then felt Spot's teeth sink into her scruff and pick her up.

"Ow, Hay put me down you mutt, I'm not a puppy," Everest yelled.

Now sooner did she say that then a fist found her stomach.

"Quite dog," Butch said.

Everest winced in pain then shut her mouth. The group walked for about 10 minutes. Then the sack was removed from her head and she was kicked into an iron cage. She whipped around to find the gang laughing at her.

"Oh, just you wait, my friends will find my, you evil, vile, mutts," Everest hissed.

"Whoa, you kiss your mama with that mouth," Spot teased.

"For you information mutt, yes I would if I had one, my parents were killed in a blizzard in the arctic."

"Oh, Oh no, I'm sorry for you loss, ha, ha," Spot said in a mocking tone.

"You just wait until Marshal finds me; he will tan your hide." Everest said.

"Marshal, ha, Marshal what makes you think that Marshal will come and save you," Spot said.

"Marshal loves me and I love him, I know he'll come and save me," Everest said, glaring at Spot.

"Oh I see a classic love story, ugh, just because somebody loves you, doesn't mean that they are going to be there for you when you need them," Spot said.

"You don't know the meaning of love," Everest said.

"Maybe I don't, because Marshal and I are brothers, we picked each other up when we fell down, we helped each other through the beatings and abuse, I loved Marshal, and I thought that he loved me, well ether he doesn't love me, or I just got the meaning of love wrong, because he just up and left, he left me to continue the beatings and abuse, I don't know about you but that doesn't sound like love to me," Spot said with hatred

"I'm sorry Marshal did that to you, but he has Changed, I know he'll find me," Everest said.

"I highly doubt that, have fun in your new home Evey," Spot said putting emphases on the nickname.

Everest sat down; her front paws on the cold iron bars. She looked around and as she expected, her cell wasn't a very cheerful place. It was dark, damp and cold, with 1 inch thick iron bars with a rusty old dog dish in the corner.

Everest sighed, and lay down on the cold, wet cement. Luckily for Everest she was used to being cold and alone. She spent 7 years in the arctic, 2 years with her mom and 5 years alone. Everest folded her paws and went to the only one she knew could help her, El-Shaddai-Rohi, God almighty.

"O great God on high, you alone are in control, O God you are all powerful, omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient, you know what is and is to come, O Jesus hear my plea, rescue me from the paws of evil, lead my friends to me, and bring justice to Spot and his gang, amen" Everest prayed.

Everest sighed again and closed her eyes and unknowingly fell asleep. With everything that had happened to her, she was pretty tuckered out. Everest got about an hour of rest before she was rudely awaked by spot banging on the cage door.

"Get up dog, we're taking you to the "Big Boss," Spot said.

"Oh, great, he sounds Charming, maybe he'll treat me better," Everest said sarcastically.

She was then dragged out of the cage and the sack was thrown over her head once again. Spot picked her up like a puppy again.

"Ow, hay put me down I can walk you know," Everest yelled.

Spot threw her in the back of the van. Everest winced in pain, she was about ready to fight her way out, but then she thought about if she could fight off two grown men and a dog. She decided that it probably wasn't a wise idea even though she probably could over take them she wouldn't come out looking too nice. So she decided against it and let her friends find her. Eventually the van stop and Everest heard the back door open.

"Are you going to let me walk this time, ahh, nope, the scruff again," Everest said gritting her teeth.

Spot carried Everest through an iron gate in the side of a cliff. They walked until they came to a large room. In the center of the room was a throne with a man clocked in a black cape and a top hat on it.

"Here she is boss," Butch said.

"Is that it, remember its $500 per PAW Patrol pup," The man said getting down from his throne.

"Oh we are well aware of our deal, we plan to get more tonight," Ruben said.

"Very well, throw her in here and I'll get you your reward."

Everest was shoved into a prisoner's cell and the sack was removed from her head. Everest looked up at the "Big Boss," And rolled her eyes.

"Hello Humdinger, you always were a thorn in our paws," Everest said.

"Yeah, whatever," Humdinger said handing Spot and his gang their money.

The gang walked off with greedy grins on their faces. Humdinger proceeded back to his throne and one of his cats hopped up on his lap.

"So, what now Humdinger," Everest said.

"Uh, what," Humdinger said, his gaze shifting towards Everest.

"I mean you've successfully pup-napped me so I would assume you after the rest of us," Everest said.

"Yes of coarse that's what I want, then you pups will be out of the way and I will rule the world." Humdinger said triumphantly.

"Ha, ha, ha, I'm sorry, ha, ha, I mean this is like what you 7 millionth time attempting this, what makes you think you'll win this time I mean face it, every plan you have ever come up with has failed."

"Yeah, well this one won't."

"Are you sure this won't turn out like that snowboarding Race where you and you kittens tried to cheat and you cats almost died on the cliff." Everest said with a laugh.

"This is better than the snowboarding race." Humdinger said with annoyance.

"Yeah right," Everest mocked.

A few days went by and Everest amused herself by mocking Humdingers past failures and annoying him in other ways.

"Are you okay Marshal, uh yeah I'm okay, just chilling out, hehe oh Marshal you're so funny," Everest said to herself.

"Are you talking to yourself now," Humdinger grumbled.

"How else am I suppose to entertain myself, if you have any ideas I'm all ears. Oh hay humdinger don't you just hate it when people just won't stop talking it's like they just go on and on," Everest said.

"Yes, I do hate it," Humdinger said with annoyance.

"it's like the just won't shut up, yapping and yapping, like a Chihuahua have you ever heard them they just bark and bark and bark,"

"Oh, why did they have to bring her first, this is why I stick to cats," Humdinger said.

"It just so annoying when they won't shut up, Hay do you remember that time when we fug up that buried treasure and you tried to steal it and what you stole was just pairs of long johns, and the real gold and silver coins were underneath the long johns, classic Humdinger fail," Everest mocked.

"WILL YOU JUST SHUT UP," Humdinger exploded.

Everest smiled and nodded her head, that was exactly what she was after and now she knew how to do it. Just then the door opened and she could hear Butch's voice, she slipped into the shadows and listened.

"Hello Boss," Butch said.

"Ah you back, oooo and you got another one," Humdinger said.

"Oh no," Everest whispered.

"Butch and Ruben have got the goods," Butch said.

"Ahem, hello," Spot said through gritted teeth.

"Oh and Spot too," Ruben said.

"Excellent, excellent, you may throw him in the cage and I'll get your payment." Humdinger said.

The dog was shoved into the cage and the sack was removed from his head.

"Hay dudes what did I ever do to you, just wait until my friends find my they will beat you until you are walking to prison with you tails between your legs." The dog said.

"I know that voice," Everest thought to herself.

"Ha, not if they think your dead," Spot said turning on the TV.

The headline read, Breaking news, Famous Paw Patrol honors the life and service of their beloved water rescue pup, Zuma, funereal live.

They won't be looking for a dead pup, have fun being dead and forgotten, Zuma" Spot said with an evil laugh.

Zuma looked on in horror; he collapsed on the floor and began to cry. Everest emerged from the shadows and walked up to him.

"Zuma," Everest said in disbelief.

Zuma stopped crying and whipped around.

"Everest, Dude this is where they were hiding you," Zuma said.

"How did they get you," Everest asked.

"I actually have no idea, one minute I'm in a blazing barn and the next I'm in a dark, damp cage," Zuma said.

"That sounds a little more intense then my pup-napping," Everest said.

"Dude, how are we going to get out of here?"

"We don't I've tried, we just have to wait for our friends to find us, I'm sure they are searching for us right now," Everest said.

"Nah, their looking for you right now, according to them I'm dead,"

"So if they find me they'll find you," Everest said.

"But will they still want me, face it they don't need me," Zuma said.

"What are you talking about Zum, of course they need you," Everest said with shock.

"No they don't, they don't care about me, I'm not loved like Chase or Skye," Zuma said hanging his head.

"Zuma that is a lie and you know it,"

"Is it, give me one example of a time when somebody ever said that the car about me or that they love me, and I'll take it all back." Zuma said.

Everest opened her mouth, but found no words, and she hung her head in shame.

"It's what I thought, huh, people don't even remember my name, nobody cares about me,"

"It's still not true, you friends do love you, they have just never said anything because you are always so happy and cool that they assumed that you knew that they love you," Everest said.

"Happy, do you know how hard it is to stay happy when nobody has ever said that the care about you, or that they love you. Do you know how hard it is to stay cool when you are never picked for a mission even when you skills would come in handy? Do you know how hard it is to suppress the feeling that NOBODY LOVES YOU," Zuma yelled.

Zuma's face fell into his paws. He began to cry and sob uncontrollably. Everest walked over to him and wrapped her paws around him.

"Why didn't you tell me, I could have helped you, you know, I know what it feels like to not be loved by someone close to you. I've told you that my parents died in the arctic, well that is only half true, my mom died protecting me from a really cold blizzard. I don't know what happened to my dad because he just left one day, out of the blue just left us, so I know what it's like to feel alone and unloved. But know I know how you feel, I can help heal the wound," Everest said.

"How, How I've been hurt for so long, before the paw patrol even," Zuma said.

"Your friends and I can heal the wound, but you are going to have to let us open it to see how deep it is."

Zuma began to cry and shake violently as he realized what she meant.

"Do you want me to heal you, because opening the wound could be painful," Everest said.

"No, no, not right now, I just need some time," Zuma said.

"Everything will be alright Zuma," Everest said, holding her paws open inviting Zuma in for a hug.

Zuma rushed into her open paws, he wrapped his paws around her. He was still trembling from some memory hunting his past. Everest stroked his fur for a good long while. Eventually Everest casually glanced up at the TV which was still on, and it showed the funereal for thought to be dead Zuma. Everest saw Ryder stand up to speak. She smiled and pointed Zuma to the TV. Zuma began to watch with great curiosity.

"Can't say I've ever watched my own funereal," Zuma said causing both pups to laugh.

"Zuma, he was brave and loyal to his friends and his job, despite us not giving him credit and not paying enough attention to him," Ryder said over the TV.

Everest smiled and looked over at Zuma; he had the biggest smile on his face. He couldn't hold in the tears of joy inside him.

"I wish Zuma was here right now, so I could tell him how much I love him," Ryder said.

Now Zuma's tears were flowing like the sweet spring rain.

"He said it, he actually said it, Oh Everest Ryder loves me," Zuma cried, hugging Everest yet again.

"And I guarantee that you other friends do to, don't worry, they'll find us, we just have to wait." Everest said with a smile.

Zuma's alive, Yes, nothing can kill that pup, did you all really think I would kill my favorite character, of course not, well I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, come back next week for another exiting chapter in Adventures of the PAW Patrol.
