Chapter 16 The Birthday of the Prinzessin
Fischl's POV
It has been a few days since we had returned from Liyue. And now, it was the day of my birthday.
"Mein Fräulein, wake up! There is trouble!"
When I heard this, I groggily opened my eyes, and saw Oz staring at me.
"Oz, what's going on…"
As I was speaking…I suddenly smelt something burning!
I quickly sat up before looking around. I couldn't see anything that was on fire, but I could still smell burning.
Realizing that it was coming from downstairs, I shot out of my bed and rushed downstairs. When I got there, I saw a huge smoke cloud!
The cloud soon disappeared, and a familiar face was left standing in its spot.
"Bennet", I exclaimed before rushing up to him.
"Fischl", he greeted as he turned around to face me. "Good morning! Happy…"
Before Bennet could finish, I grabbed onto his hands and began checking him over.
"Are you okay", I asked in concern. "Are you hurt?"
"I'm alright", Bennet replied. "And thankfully, I managed to put the fire out before it burned down your entire house!"
"What fire", I asked. "What happened?"
When he heard this, Bennet sighed sadly. Then, he turned back to the kitchen counter, before picking up a pan; which had turned completely black from fire damage.
"I wanted to surprise you by making you bed in breakfast", he revealed. "But I realize now how stupid of me that was."
"Bed in breakfast", I asked.
"Yep", Bennet replied, before the goofiest grin came to his face. "Happy birthday, Fischl!"
When I heard this, my heart completely melted.
He was making breakfast in bed for me? That's so romantic!
This thought brought a smile to my face. However, I noticed that Bennet no longer had one on his.
"I'm really sorry, Fischl", he apologized. "I just wanted to do something nice for you, but I ended screwing it up like I always do!"
When I heard this, I suddenly became upset.
"My beloved", I started. "In the name of the Prinzessin, I order you to seize uttering these cruel words aimed at yourself at once!"
"Mein Fräulein is asking that you stop saying such harsh words to yourself", Oz added.
"But…", Bennet started.
But before he could finish, I grabbed onto his hands; which got him to look up at me.
"Bennet, the fact that things didn't work out the way that you planned doesn't matter to me", I reassured him.
"They don't", he asked.
"They don't", I replied. "To me, it's the thought that counts."
After hearing this, Bennet smiled at me once more.
"Thanks Fischl", he said, before clearing his throat. "Anyway, since making breakfast for you didn't work out, why don't we go get breakfast together at Good Hunter instead?"
…
After we had breakfast, Bennet and I spent the day on an adventure together.
The sun was now setting, and we were making our way back to my house.
"I hope you enjoyed your birthday, Fischl", Bennet asked.
"It was far less grand than the celebrations that would be held for the anniversary of my birth in my home world", I stated. "However, if I must celebrate this occasion in a less extravagant way, then I'm glad that I got to spend the day with you, my beloved."
"Thanks, Fischl", Bennet said.
Then…he suddenly smiled mischievously.
"But you know, your birthday isn't done yet."
"What are you hinting at, dear", I asked.
"Go back to your house", Bennet instructed. "You'll find a surprise waiting for you there."
"A surprise", I asked in confusion. "What surprise."
"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you", Bennet pointed out. "Once you're done there. Meet me at Angel's Share. See you there, Fischl!"
Before I could ask him to elaborate further, Bennet suddenly turned around and left.
"How odd", Oz stated. "What do you think this surprise that the boy was talking about is, Mein Fräulein?"
"I do not know, Oz", I replied. "However, there is only one way for us to find out. "Let us return to our lodgings and see what it is that the boy has left there for me."
…
Oz and I had returned to my house.
"Now", I started as I looked around my living room. "Where shall I this 'surprise' that my beloved has left for me?"
"Look, Mein Fräulein. There is a box awaiting you on the table."
After hearing this, I turned my head to where Oz had said; and there was in fact a box there.
"Ah", I started as I walked up to it. "So this is the 'surprise' my beloved was referring to. I must say, this box is rather quite large."
"Mein Fräulein, there is a note on the box", Oz revealed.
I then looked down, and saw the note he was talking about.
"A message for the Prinzessin", I asked.
Then, I picked up the note before opening it up, and seeing very fancy handwriting on it. Then, I began reading it.
To her majesty, the Prinzessin der Verurteilung. Congratulations on the anniversary of your birth. I am sure that this gift of mine is not nearly as extravagant as the ones you received back in your home world, but I hope that it will suffice to be used when you meet your beloved at Angel Share tonight.
Happy birthday, Fischl.
Love,
Mona
When I was done reading the note, my heart swelled as I began getting emotional.
"Is something the matter, Mein Fräulein", Oz asked in concern.
I then calmed myself down before continuing to speak.
"It is nothing to be concerned about, Oz", I reassured him. "This gift and message were left by the mighty astrologer, Mona. I was simply moved by her leaving a gift for me, that's all. Speaking of the gift, let me open the box to see what is contained inside."
With this, I took the lid off of the box…and my eyes lit up in awe when I saw what my gift was.
