Chapter 12 : A Path Uncharted The Countdown Begins

Jasper's fingers flew over the keys of his phone as he texted Peter: "On day 2 of the honeymoon, we'll start the change. Edward has scheduled his hunt in Rio; timeframe about 10 hours while Bella should be sleeping. Can you keep him away for 12 hours? We need that window."

The reply came quickly, Peter's efficiency evident in the succinct message: "We're ready. Will meet him at the dock. Let's make this count."

Jasper slipped his phone back into his pocket, casting a glance toward the beach where Bella and Edward were lounging. His gaze lingered on Bella, her body tense even as she tried to feign relaxation. The setting sun painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, a deceptive tranquility hanging over the island.

A Tense Day at the Beach

Bella emerged from the beach house in a simple bathing suit, the fabric hugging her form modestly. She laid out a towel on the lounger, her movements deliberate as she applied sunscreen. Edward hovered nearby, a perpetual shadow. "Need some help with that?" Edward's voice was eager, an attempt to bridge the growing chasm between them.

"No, thanks," Bella replied, her tone flat as she spread the lotion on her arms. She settled on the lounger with a book, her eyes scanning the pages as though the words could transport her far from her reality. Edward's presence was a constant distraction, his attempts at conversation met with monosyllabic responses. "We could hike to the waterfall," he suggested, his patience wearing thin. "I'm fine here," Bella said without looking up. "I'm enjoying my tea and my book." Edward's frustration bubbled over, and he stomped back to the beach house, leaving Bella in momentary peace. Jasper seized the opportunity, moving swiftly to Bella's side.

"Tonight's the night," he murmured, his eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of Edward's return. "When he leaves for his hunt, we'll start the change. If all goes well, you'll be out of his life by the time he gets back." Bella looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of determination and fear. "I'm ready, Jasper. I've never been more certain of anything. I want to be your mate." Jasper's expression softened, his hand brushing against her arm. "This won't be easy, Bella. The repercussions... they could be severe." She met his gaze unwaveringly. "I'm sure. I want this, and I want it with you."

A Dangerous Nightfall

As darkness enveloped the island, Edward prepared to leave for his hunt. He stood before Bella, his expression stern. "I'm going hunting. I'll be gone all night. Don't do anything reckless while I'm away." Bella's response was cool. "Take care of your needs. I'll be fine." Edward turned to Jasper, his eyes narrowing. "Keep her safe, or you'll regret it." Jasper nodded, his face a mask of compliance. "I'll watch over her." Edward's departure was swift, the boat cutting through the waves toward Rio. As soon as he was out of sight, Jasper texted Peter: "Edward has left. Begin Phase 1. Ready for forever?" Peter's reply was immediate: "Understood. I'm in position. Keep us posted." Jasper turned to Bella, his expression earnest. "Are you ready for forever?" Bella's answer was a whisper, filled with emotion. "I love you, Jasper. Any forever I have, I want with you." Jasper handed her the first potion, his hands steady. "This will make the change quicker. Drink it."

Bella swallowed the potion, grimacing at the bitter taste. Jasper gathered her into his arms, his lips finding her neck in a quick and painful bite. The venom began its work, and he carried her inside, laying her on the bed as the transformation began. He whispered softly, thinking she couldn't hear him. "I've loved you since the first moment I saw you."

A Chaotic Hunt

Edward tied the boat at the dock, his thoughts on placating Bella with a nice little gift perhaps the necklace she had been looking at. He barely had time to orient himself before Peter's arm was slung across his shoulders. "Welcome to your hunting tour, Edward," Peter said with a grin. "We've got a whole itinerary planned." Edward frowned, trying to shrug Peter off. "Get lost, Peter. I don't need your help, nor do I want it." But Peter's grip tightened, his smile widening. "Oh, but you do. Alley cats, rats, all the delicacies Rio has to offer."

Edward's protests were drowned out by Peter's enthusiasm, and soon he found himself embroiled in a series of hunts that tested his patience, knowing that getting away from Peter would be difficult if not impossible. The night was a blur of dark alleys and the chase of small, unappealing prey, Peter's relentless energy keeping him on edge and not letting him escape the disgusting hunt.

A New Beginning

Back on the island, Bella's change progressed rapidly. She woke after just six and a half hours, blinking up at Jasper with new awareness and grateful that her change had been quick instead of the customary three days. Jasper's eyes widened in surprise. "Bella, how do you feel?" She smiled weakly, her voice soft. "A little confused, but mostly okay." Jasper handed her the second potion, watching as she drank it down. He then gave her a slip of paper, the words of the mating ritual inscribed in elegant script. "Will you walk with me into the moonlight, Bella?" Together they stepped outside, the moon casting a silvery glow over the island. Jasper took her hands in his, looking down at her his voice low and solemn as he recited the words to the ritual. "From today onward, you and I will be one in heart, body, and mind. Two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that are as one."

Bella repeated the words, her voice trembling with emotion. "From today onward, you and I will be one in heart, body, and mind. Two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that are as one." As they gazed into each other's eyes, a profound bond formed between them, unbreakable and eternal. Their souls intertwined, a connection that transcended the chaos of their circumstances. The feeling of being truly whole, complete was felt by both as the stood together in the Moonlight.

The Chase and Escape

About ten hours later as planned, Edward returned to the dock in Rio, his mood sour. His frustration grew as Peter teased him for eating nasty ally cats and rats. Peters' expressions of amusement at his forced current diet. Peter continues to tease him with a wry smile. "Hope you enjoyed your hunt, Edward. Edward scowled at Peter as he boarded his boat and headed back to Isle Esme and hopefully a happier Bride. With the plan to keep Edward away a success and finished Peter made his way back to Char and Charlie to be ready for anything else that Jasper and Bella may need. Emmet and Rose were up next in project escape from the island quick!

Emmet and Rosalie arrived in a speedboat, pulling up to the island with urgent haste. Emmet's voice rang out, commanding. "Jasper! Bella! We're here! Get in, quick!" Jasper and Bella hurried down to the dock, their movements swift and purposeful. They tossed their luggage into the boat and jumped aboard as Emmet gunned the engine, the boat surging forward just as Edward arrived, his face twisted in rage. "Get back here!" Edward shouted, his voice echoing over the water. But Emmet steered the boat with expert precision, dodging Edward's pursuit and heading toward a hidden cove along the coast of Isle Esme. The chase was intense, but Emmet's knowledge of the waters gave them the edge they needed. As they slipped into the secluded cove, the adrenaline began to subside. Bella turned to Jasper, her eyes filled with gratitude. "We did it! We're free!"

Jasper nodded, his expression a mixture of relief and determination. "We're free for now. But this is just the beginning. We must be smart and stay ahead of Edward and contact Marcus about the situation." Back in Rio, Jasper promised to take Bella hunting as soon as possible4, but for now, she was content to wait, the potion working to keep her calm. They had achieved the first part of their mission, but the journey ahead was fraught with uncertainty. Together, they would navigate the challenges, their bond a beacon of hope in the face of adversity. As the sun rose over Rio, Bella and Jasper prepared for the next phase of their plan, their future intertwined and their resolve unyielding. The world beyond the island awaited, and with each step, they moved closer to securing their freedom and forging a new destiny together.
