Chapter 20: Outworld Part 1

Shao Kahn has forged a new alliance with Havik the Chaos Cleric and the entire home of Chaosrealm. Shao Kahn promises Habik that they will spread chaos across all realms. With Netherrealm and Chaosrealm now working together, things will grow even more dangerous for the heroes, now that they have two Kamidogu daggers in their hands now. They now retreat to the Netherrealm where Shao Kahn will introduce everyone to their new allies.

A green portal opens in front of the throne room in the cathedral of the Netherrealm. Shao Kahn enters through, much to his daughter's delight. Mileena walks up and bends the knee before her father. "Father. You have returned. How was your trip to the fine Chaosrealm?" Mileena asked.

"I assume that you have made more accomplishments, Shao Kahn?" Daegon asked as well.

"I have one thing." Shao Kahn holds up the Kamidogu of Chaosrealm. He stares at the dagger and smirks at his satisfaction.

"I sense that is not all you have retrieved, my league." Rain assumes correctly.

"Say hello to some new friends of ours, Daegon." Shao Kahn said. He steps aside. First, Drahmin was the first to step through and growls and stares at his supposed new allies. Mileena smirks, liking the sound of it. Rain just rolls his eyes, not looking impressed. But his eyes then widened once he sees two people thought to be dead. None other than Goro and Ermac.

"Ermac? Goro? How are you two still alive? Shang Tsung absorbed you during his betrayal and you, Goro, were banished for failure." Rain stated.

"And you breathe because I choose to restrain my strength and wrath on you, Rain. In fact, I do not see you making any moves unlike the rest of us." Shao Kahn roasts him, making Mileena and Tanya laugh at him being verbally burned.

"Besides, Shao Kahn isn't the only major ruler and leader to master magic." A voice said as a final person steps through the portal. It is none other than Havik the Chaos Cleric.

"Havik the Chaos Cleric?!" Rain stands there in shock.

"The one and only." Daegon stated. He walks up to Havik. "Looks like you got your wish. You wanted to meet Shao Kahn and challenge him. You knew he would win and claim his prize." Daegon said.

"Yes. He is the most powerful evil being I know. I heard so much about him and wanted to spread chaos like he would. Despite our differences, I knew he would win the Kochal Trial. Less powerful beings have tried. I used my full skill against him as part of his demands." Havik smirks evilly.

"What do you suppose is our next move? Surely, we must know where the other four are by now. Our enemies must know where they are right now." Reptile reminds everyone.

"Darrius and Dairou have both been captured by the Shirai Ryu. Now there is nothing stopping the King of Edenia from traveling to Orderrealm." Mavado points out.

"Orderrealm?! You mean they plan to ally with my ancient enemy?!" Havik yells in anger and snarls at the revelation.

"Calm yourself, Chaos Cleric." Shao Kahn tells him. "We have a plan that we can improvise. While Jerrod is away, this leaves the Kamidogu in Edenia on the heaviest guard. We have a spy in their midst. They won't know what will hit them." He sees Mavado and Seamus Lee coming in.

"Tessa is awaiting further orders. She is keeping an eye out on the Kamidogu and Taven. We made sure to instruct her not to kill him. He is Daegon's to finish." Seamus Lee reports. Rain looks at them out of suspicion. First Delia, then Taven. Both names sound awfully familiar to him. He still wonders why.

"That is not all." Mavado said. "Spies have reported the next Kamidogu. In Outworld." Mavado said.

"Where is it?" Daegon asked, looking at his two loyal followers. All they do is smirk.

Outworld. The realm that is considered the most powerful of the realms, as it always has been. It has gone through the leaderships of Onaga the Dragon King, Shao Kahn, Mileena, Kotal and now Kitana. With the exception of Mileena, Outworld has been at its strongest. So strong, that the realm is the one responsible for Mortal Kombat being crafted in the first place by the Elder Gods.

Outworld has been at its best under the rule of Kitana Kahn. It's even better with her husband Liu Kang at her side. And with Jade and Kotal and their respective families growing up in Outworld, the realm has become stronger. They have done their usual daily business. The children continue to train with each other, as they consider each other best friends, despite their personality differences. Shu-Shang still struggles awakening her powers, while Daisuki tends to overwork himself despite being considered the least violent of the four. He often trains with his younger sister Chang Bao. Chang Bao often tries to give Daisuki the best advice she can as Liu Kang and Kitana taught them.

"Keep pressing your attacks! Yes! Just like that!" Chang Bao yelled as she spared with Daisuki, who is using his signature gaundeo weapon. She of course is using her Odachi. Daisuki swings the blade part of his weapon at his sister, who is parrying it away before using her wind powers by swinging her Odachi in a circle and pushing him back. Daisuki slides on his feet and spins the stick part in a circle at the ground and slides it forward Chang Bao. She slices it in two and spins and pulls Daisuki in with the wind, but he dodges a hit from the hilt and he uses his own hilt and hit her in the chin and does a strong swing to the head, knocking Chang Bao down before Daisuki points his weapon at her.

"Your move." Daisuki smirks and his sister holds her hands up to surrender. He pulls her to her feet. "So. Not bad for someone who is not a demigod. But then again, Edenians are descendants."

"Yes. But then again, demigods have always proven themselves to be more powerful than an Edenian." Chang Bao smirks, showing a somewhat twisted sense of humor.

"Very funny, sister." Daisuki rolls his eyes. "But I think I'm starting to get used to mother's wind moves. I'm surprised you didn't even use your fire this time. You normally do. Or were you too afraid of burning me." Daisuki said.

"The last thing I would want is to kill my own brother by accident. After all, you know they made me promise not to do anything to you, Cyan, or Shu-Shang." Chang Bao said.

"Like the time you got angry that you were the first to lose in one of our games and you accidentally had fire flow all over your body which nearly burned us all if it weren't for our father?" Daisuki teases her. He remembers well that she can be a bit angry sometimes.

Chang Bao snickered. "Yes. And I was sent to my room for weeks whenever I threw an outburst like that. Though at least I am not the only one who has that kind of issue. Ask Shu-Shang. I mean do you have any idea how many times Kotal and Jade had to yell at her for whenever she does that, as well as throwing and breaking things." This causes both siblings to chuckle.

"You're right. But at least she is getting better at it. You and her always look good whenever you two are seen together." Daisuki said, reminding them. When they were children, they all noticed Chang Bao and Shu-Shang getting along with each other the most. In fact, they don't even fight at all. Why is that is pretty unclear to everyone, including their parents.

While Chang Bao and Daisuki talk while training, Cyan and Shu-Shang continue their own things on a daily basis. They fight with their sickles and three-sectioned staff weapons and seem to be evenly matched. Cyan swings his staff at Shu-Shang, and wrap around her sickles. Shu-Shang smirks and pulls her sickles and yanks the staff out of her brother's hands. Cyan stumbles forward, allowing her to kick his chest twice, grabs his arm and pulls him in for a punch and backhand strike across the face. Cyan kneels, taking his breath. Shu-Shang yells and runs up and was about to kick her brother in the head, but Cyan jumps backwards twice and all of a sudden, Cyan does a dash kick forward, striking Shu-Shang in the stomach, sending her backwards, defeating her.

"By the gods. Cyan. How did you do that?" Shu-Shang asked, sitting up from the sudden strong kick.

"I-I don't know. T-That never happened to me. I apologize I didn't mean to do that. I don't even know where that came from to begin with?" Cyan expresses his guilt for hurting her.

"I believe it must have come from our mother. Who else but her? Father has something different compared to her. I'm still trying to master the powers father has passed down to me. He tells me to embrace the anger. But, but. I don't understand why I fail. I'm usually the angry one most of the time." Shu-Shang sighs, having some doubts about herself.

"I think it is because you are trying to bottle up said anger. Given the times your hotheadedness has always landed you into trouble, and sometimes me, I can't say I blame you. I guess we both have something in common." Cyan said as he sat down with his sister.

"That we both have powers passed down to us? Yes. But who knows how long we have until more danger comes from the Netherrealm. Including the bastard Shao Kahn and filthy undead and the Red Dragon." Shu-Shang said in disgust of the enemies they all share.

"Luckily for us, time is on our side. And with all of us on our best guard, surely nothing will stop us." Shu-Shang said with confidence on her face and tone.

"I like our new Earthrealmer friends. The young Cages. They seem to be rather friendly and protective of their family. Same with Edenia and the clans. I cannot wait to meet them." Cyan said with Chang Bao and Daisuki walking over to them and nodding in agreement when they overheard their conversation.

Liu Kang sits and meditates inside his meditation chambers. He thinks about the next step they should take to prevent their enemies from obtaining their goal and how to stop them from unleashing Armageddon. His amulet starts glowing once more, causing the fire god to open his eyes and holds it in his hands. His eyes suddenly light up and all of a sudden, he is in some sort of light trance.

"Where….. Where am I?" Liu Kang asked with his voice echoing a bit. But then, he starts hearing a voice.

"Liu Kang." The voice said. Within a second, an image of Raiden appears right in front of him. He looks at his successor with a serious look in his eyes.

"Raiden? You're…. You're here." Liu Kang stared, couldn't believe his own eyes.

"My spirit has always lived on inside the amulet that you hold now. I am here for you just as the Elder Gods told you. You should be well aware of the danger all the realms are in." Raiden said to him.

"I am. I have seen the visions that you passed to me once I first retrieved it. That this has happened before. Shao Kahn won and you were given the message 'he must win'." Liu Kang said. He remembered the last words Raiden originally said before he died at the hands of Shao Kahn, empowered by Blaze after he killed the latter.

"Indeed. The realms will face grave danger if Shao Kahn and his allies are not stopped. If they were to succeed, history will repeat itself in a cycle. If that happens, that cycle will never end." Raiden tells him.

"I understand, my friend. I know what needs to be done. I have seen the visions, but we cannot save everyone. Cetrion has told me about Blaze. And Taven has told me everything about Daegon and his father's visions." Liu Kang replied.

"For now, Outworld's Kamidogu is in danger. It must be protected at all costs. And Taven must have a plan. Perhaps he may trust you, Lord Liu Kang." Raiden said.

"For all of our sakes, I will not fail you, Raiden." Liu Kang nods with confidence.

"I know you will not. I always had faith in you. And I always will. You help carry the hope with the friends and allies we have shared for years." Raiden smirked before Liu Kang returned to the real world. Liu Kang opens his eyes and stands up. He looks at his amulet and sees that it is no longer glowing. He looks up with a serious look on his face. Then he gets a call. It's from Taven.

"Taven? What is it?" Liu Kang asked.

"I just learned that my father has passed down his visions to me. According to them, Shao Kahn has retrieved the second one from Chaosrealm and has made allies with Havik. The Chaos Cleric.

"By the Elder Gods." Liu Kang exclaimed. "If they and your brother are to ally with each other-" Liu Kang said.

"Then Chaos will be unleashed and hell will rain over the six realms." Taven said.

"I am already aware that Outworld is the next target. I will warn everyone immediately." Liu Kang said before they cut the call.

Throughout these last few hours, Kitana has been thinking about her mother's advice regarding the Kamidogu. She remembered the day she helped Sindel conquer her inner demons by killing it. And she was also told that Sindel taught the same to Alex when he was struggling with putting up with Kronika. Kitana can't help but wonder if it's the right idea to do so. Mostly out of fear that it could be a trap for them all. That they could take Outworld's Kamidogu dagger only to be ambushed and possibly killed by their enemies. But she sighs and knows that she does not have a choice.

Chang Bao walked up to her mother out of worry. "Mother Kahn? Are you alright? You've been awfully quiet for the past hours after talking to Grandmother Sindel." Kitana turns around to face her daughter.

"I am fine, Chang Bao. I was just remembering the times me and mother had after we reunited and took back our home from Shao Kahn." Kitana tells her before pulling her into a hug. They both smile warmly as they embrace.

"I could tell there was trouble between you two before. But is it wrong to doubt someone in the family? Even when they are right? It's a bad feeling to do so." Chang Bao said.

"Sometimes it is best to agree to disagree with one another. But you must always be honest with yourself as well. That's what she told me. She has faced rational fears ever since we took Edenia back, but thank the gods she has conquered them and put the past behind her." Kitana said.

"What will we do about our Kamidogu? We cannot just keep it in one place forever. Anytime someone may come for it. I fear they could be after you, or father, or Daisuki, my brother." Chang Bao shivers and fears for her family.

"I know what you are saying, daughter. Unfortunately, you may be right. It is time we make our move before anyone else. I know your fear. I really do." Kitana said, placing a hand on Chang Bao's face. Who could blame her though?

"Father sent me here. He said he saw his master Raiden. He said that our realm is in danger and must be protected." Chang Bao said with a slight tone of fear.

Kitana widens her eyes upon what she was just told. She was afraid this was gonna happen at some point, but not this soon. Kitana's husband has mentioned hearing Raiden's voice before and has no choice but to believe it. "Very well. Gather your brother and the others. We are heading to warn the others." Kitana tells her and she nods. They start heading outside and gathering both families together. Heeding the warning from both Liu Kang and Chang Bao, they reinforced their armies and were prepared for the worst.

Jade and Kotal meet up with the others outside the Kahn Temple. "Kitana Kahn. Liu Kang. What seems to be the issue here?" Kotal asked.

"I had a vision. From Raiden. He tells me that Outworld's Kamidogu is in grave danger. Someone from the Netherrealm is bound to come after it anytime now. And I have spoken to Taven. He says that Shao Kahn now has the Kamidogu from Chaosrealm." Liu Kang said.

"And what's worse is that he has forged an alliance with Havik. Him, all of Chaosrealm, the Black Dragon and Red Dragon are all coming together. The horror they could bring if they are to awaken Armageddon on us all." Kitana fears.

"Not unless we get to it first. We must be prepared to face any threat that comes. My Osh-Tekk warriors have already been notified of the threat." Kotal said.

"So are our Edenian Warriors and Shokan and Tarkatans. We should head to where Outworld's Kamidogu is." Jade suggested.

"I must stay behind." Liu Kang tells everyone.

"But father. Who knows who could show up? It could be anyone. Let us help you. We can face them together." Daisuki tries to protest.

"I understand your concern, my son. But this is something I must do as protector of the realm and its people. I'll send word to Baraka and have him and his warriors come assist me. Your place is with the others" Liu Kang tells Daisuki before hugging him. Daisuki hugs back and smiles for a moment, but still worries for his father. Even though he's a god, that still doesn't stop him from showing fear for his safety. He reluctantly nods and sighs.

"It's alright, Daisuki. We all have our duty. You mustn't fear one's safety. Obsessing over it will only make it worse. I speak from experience." Kitana tries to comfort her son by placing her hand on his back. Daisuki looks up at her mother and sighs again, hoping that she is right.

As everyone else starts walking away, Liu Kang stops Chang Bao and grabs her wrist. "Chang Bao. Here." Liu Kang places the amulet in her hand.

"What is this?" Chang Bao asked.

"The amulet of Raiden. I always carried it ever since the day he died. His spirit lives on in it and has always guided me in case we are to face grave danger. If something happens to me, I am relying on you, Chang Bao." Liu Kang smirks.

"Are you sure about this? You may need it more." Chang Bao replied.

"I know you will not fail us. Keep your brother, your mother and your friends safe. And I mean all of them. For me." Liu Kang asks her. Chang Bao sighs and nods as she looks up at her father before giving him a hug. They warmly smile as they embrace for a few moments before Chang Bao runs off to catch up with her family. Liu Kang, knowing he is a god, knows that even he is willing to lay down his life for his family.

Sometime after the Battle to take back Edenia

The battle of Edenia has been won. Sindel and her daughter successfully took back their home from the hands of Shao Kahn, the so-called 'husband' and 'father'. He died at the hands of Sindel and all of his loyal followers who survived retreated to the Netherrealm, the only other place they could think of. Thanks to the combined efforts of Fire God Liu Kang and Fujin, they have placed magical barriers around each realm to protect them and help them prepare for whenever Shang Tsung and Quan Chi return to exact revenge.

For now, the residents of Edenia, the freed warriors, have since started rebuilding their home after it was ruined by Shao Kahn. Sheeva and her Shokan stay to help her queen and Kitana Kahn, who drops in from time to time to help out her mother alongside Jade. Along the way, Sindel and Kitana have discovered something that not even Shao Kahn noticed. The Kamidogu of Edenia. They have all read stories on their power and how it is used for both good and evil, even after the death of the Dragon King. Sindel has retained her haunted memories from the Old Era, from her realm being taken over, to her husband's death, her suicide and all the times she went through while a slave to Shao Kahn, Shinnok and Kronika. Despite Shao Kahn and Kronika being dead, and Shinnok no longer existing, she can't bear the memories.

Sindel and Kitana have once tried to use the Kamidogu's power to help keep the memories away and kill her inner demon, but failed. Nevertheless, Sindel was determined to put her past behind her, no matter the challenge. She tends to try again with Kitana. "Mother. Are you sure we should do this again? There should be another way." Kitana protests.

"I understand what you mean, Kitana. But I have suffered worse than you have. I have had haunting memories that have carried over from the Old Era. You rid yourself of your demons, but I haven't. Not yet." Sindel replied to her daughter.

"But I have forgiven you. So have Liu Kang and Raiden. Most of our allies and friends have forgiven you for your actions. It wasn't your fault. I told you this before." Kitana said, not letting up.

"But I haven't forgiven myself. If only I helped your father, we would not be talking about this. Tell me, if you were in my place, would you be feeling the same way?" Sindel asked.

Kitana looked at her mother and could tell she was serious. Given the similar pain she has gone through, being lied to her entire life, she gets what her mother means. Kitana has since been able to relate to her and Alex regarding the feeling of pain. She would do anything to avoid going through any more pain like her mother. "I see now. Given that we both share the same feeling, then there is no way of me stopping you." Kitana concedes. Sindel smiles and places her hand on her daughter's cheek.

"Then let us work together. Conquer the inner demon once and for all. Shall we?" Sindel said. Kitana nods.

Sindel was the first to step onto the Edenia Kamidogu tile, surrounded by four lit candles. Sindel sits down on it, crosses her legs, holds her hands out almost sideways. She closes her eyes and takes deep breaths. Kitana sighs, hoping her mother is right about this. Kitana does the same thing Sindel does and grabs hold of her hands. They wait with a few moments of silence. At first, nothing seems to be happening. But then, the tile starts glowing and all of a sudden, Sindel and Kitana are both floating and spinning around in a completely different place. An astral plane with everything being purple all around.

"This is it. My astral plane. Inside my own mind. Where we were once before. It's beautiful." Sindel looks around in wonder and awe. Kitana feels the same way.

"Remember what you have to do, mother. Think of the happy memories you've had. Before and after your resurrection. As many as possible." Kitana advised her. Sindel nods and turns around and closes her eyes for a moment. Kitana puts a hand on her shoulder to help comfort her as she concentrates. The astral plane starts glowing as many memories have appeared before them, much more than last time. Sindel opens her eyes and she and her daughter look around. Sindel couldn't help but look at the days where she was a child.

"These. I remember these. The times with my parents. The times we had together. You would have loved them if they were still alive." Sindel said. It looks like the times where they had dinner, and when they played together and once Sindel reached adulthood, she saw them training together and wants to be like them.

"Yes I would have. It was a shame I never knew much about my family. A revived family that is." Kitana said. Next they see how close friends she was with Jerrod upon growing up and meeting. "By the gods. Is that father?"

"Yes. We met when he accidentally almost hit me with a toy of his. I got angry and he quickly apologized. I started laughing and he joined in. He let me join him and we always had fun together. He was there for me when your grandparents died. Overtime, we had the same idea of ruling and fighting alongside each other. Overtime, we fell in love." Sindel explained. As she said that, they both see the day that Jerrod proposed to Sindel and she happily accepts and shared their first kiss with each other. Another happy memory with their wedding and months later, Sindel gave birth to their one and only daughter.

"That's me." Kitana steps up and shows a small smile and a tear.

"It was the happiest day of our lives. You were the star to our moon, Kitana. You always have been." Sindel said. Then flash forward to near the end of the Old Era where upon her resurrection, she finally reunites with her daughter Kitana and her friend Sheeva. And of course, meeting her new friend Alex, who she quickly trusts. And then the start of the New Era when she was resurrected once more and forever reunited with Kitana.

"Mother. It's time." Kitana tells her. Sindel looks at her and knew what she meant. Sindel puts on a serious face and then she and Kitana face the same direction. The astral plane then starts changing its appearance. It slowly phases into a rather familiar room….. The room where Shao Kahn killed King Jerrod. What is worse is that Shao Kahn is there. In the room with them. He turns to them and smirks at Sindel.

"Wife. How I missed you. If you surrender yourself and your daughter, I promise I will grant you immunity, as long as you do not defy me then I will not kill your only daughter. You have my word." The fake Shao Kahn tells her.

"Lies, Shao Kahn! Every single word you said are just empty words you try to put into my mouth! I am not as gullible as you think! This time, I am prepared to face you! For King Jerrod!" Sindel readies for battle.

"Yes. Come… come to die!" The fake Shao Kahn yells challenges Sindel as he charges at her. With all the strength she's gotten from her positive memories, her strength has gotten stronger. Sindel quickly jumps, knees Shao Kahn in the chest, swing kicks him across the head followed by two kicks from a cartwheel move and a backflip kick to the chin. Shao Kahn blocks some of her attacks, grabs her wrists and headbutts her hard, punches her on the left side of her face and elbows her in the back. Sindel grunts in pain, but refuses to give up. She rolls out of the way before he could stomp her into the ground and brings out her spear weapon and slashes his right leg, causing him pain. Sindel takes a deep breath and unleashes a powerful banshee scream that actually sends Shao Kahn backwards and he hits a wall, cracking and nearly breaking his back. Shao Kahn is on a knee. Sindel walks up to him, pulls off his battle mask, revealing his ugly face and holds her own hand in front of her face. Sindel screams into it as she forms an energy ball. She then grabs his head and shoves it into his mouth and holds his jaw shut and within seconds, Shao Kahn's head explodes. Blood is almost everywhere as the fake's lifeless body falls to the ground. Sindel gasps for air, from the battle she had fought. She then looks at her daughter as they return to reality.

Kitana slowly walks up to her mother and hugs her tight. "Mother. That was it. You've done it. You finally conquered your inner demons. I knew you could do it. I just knew you would be able to move on." Kitana smiles as she looks at her.

"My inner demon is dead. No more will my haunted memories taunt me in my nightmares. From this day forth, Edenia will be remembered in your father's memory and name. I am glad that you trust me, Kitana." Sindel said, cupping her daughter's face.

"Forever and always. Father would have been happy for you. He would be proud." Kitana said as she and mother embraced once more. For the first time since reuniting with her daughter, Sindel has felt happy. She will miss her husband, but will carry on with him as part of her heart. From this day forth, Sindel will always remain strong, no matter what.

Note: I decided to split this chapter into two parts since there will be many battles ahead. And it'll be bloody. Here we get some clearance on Sindel using the Kamidogu to destroy her inner demons. Something that she would later help Alex with. Now why does Liu Kang keep hearing Raiden's voice? His spirit is part of the amulet and is there to guide him in the darkest times, hoping that they could prevent Armageddon from happening again.
