"You should probably wear a jacket now, it is the middle of November after all."
Hinata blushed and nodded slowly. It was dark out and the street lights were on. After the party ended and everyone had left, Naruto offered to walk her home. He said he had to be a gentleman after such and amazing kiss. So here they were, walking side by side, pinkies interlocked like in the few anime he got her to watch.
Walking with him like this was comfortable. He made her feel so comfortable. She looked up at him shyly only to duck her head down when he flashed her a smile.
"Hey, lets play 20 questions."
She smiled. "Ten...for each of us or twenty?"
He tapped his chin with his finger as he pretended to think about it. "How about ten each since we're not too far from your house."
"O-okay."
"I'll start! Okay, so what's your favorite color?"
"Lavender. Yours?"
"Orange."
Hinata giggled and tilted her head to the side. "That's an odd choice."
He scoffed and tugged on her pinkie. "Well, why does your favorite color have to be so damn specific?!" When Hinata just blushed he smiled and fired off another question. "What's your favorite food?"
"Cinnamon rolls. I know you love ramen so...u-um, how old are you?"
"You don't know? Oh, well...I'm 22."
The girls' eyes widened significantly. What?! Really? She counted in her head. That was five years older than her!
He started swinging their joined hands as he looked down at her. "What did you want to be before you moved here, you know, after you graduated?"
"A movie critic really...I... I was never really good at acting, not like Tenten says I was B-but I loved watching...So, What were your parents like?" She heard him sigh. Was it hard for him to remember his parents? "I'm sorry. I d-didn't mean to m-make you u-uncomfortable."
"No...No it's fine. It's just hard. Everyone else knew them and I forget that you never did." Naruto took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Well, my mom was loud. She loved to cook but hated doing house hold chores so she always got my dad to do it. She was strong too, she could lift my dad up with one arm. When I was little I was so sure she was superwoman. Then my dad...He was the calm one. When my mom as going on a rampage about something he would calm her down and make her think about it. They were like the best team. They completed each other. They couldn't go anywhere without each other..."
Hinata smiled sadly. "They sounded like wonderful people." She said softly.
He nodded. "Yeah, they were." He sighed once more. "So, what about your mom? What's the deal with that?"
"U-uh...Well...She kinda just...Left one day." Hinata shrugged and looked down at the sidewalk. "Hanabi and I woke up and saw our father sitting a the table staring at the wall with a piece of crumpled paper in his hand. He...just stared. At nothing...We didn't realize that mom was gone until the next day when she never came home."
"That's kinda shitty."
"Yeah...We found out that she got married to someone else a few months after their divorce was finalized. It crushed my father. I...I kind of hate her now."
The rest of the walk was silent, she felt like answering the question was a mistake. Bringing up bad memories was never a good idea when you were walking home with your crush. Didn't she learn anything from movies? The steps leading up to her families apartment came upon them fast, and Hinata sighed at the failure of a walk. When they reached her frount door, the two of them stared at each other awkwardly.
"T-thank you for walking m-me home..." She whispered.
He gave her a half smile. "It was nothing. Couldn't have you walking around by yourself." Hinata nodded and turned to open her door when he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Wait...I have...just one more question."
"S-sure. W-what is it?"
"Can I have another kiss?"
Hinata woke the next morning riding Goku's golden Nimbus. Or, that's what it felt like to her. She felt light and airy, like nothing could bring her mood down. Her mood was super powered! And to think all it took was a kiss. She smiled softly to herself as she opened her bathroom door, towel thrown over her shoulder and hair tousled messily, only to stop short to find Neji turning the facet on. In her bathroom. In her house.
"I'm guessing you people don't knock on doors here." He said, his eyebrows pinched in annoyance.
Quickly, she closed the door to the bathroom and blinked in confusion. Why was Neji in her house? She walked down the hall and into the kitchen to find Tenten...attempting to fix breakfast. Hinata eyed the burnt biscuits and runny scrambled eggs with distaste. "Um..."
Her best friend turned around suddenly, relief quickly appearing on her face. "Oh, thank god you're awake!" Tenten took her shoulders in a death like grip. "Please, save me!"
And that was how she got stuck cooking breakfast for her family and a nearly complete stranger. Wonderful.
At the breakfast table, Tenten sat VERY close to Neji. Her eyes glued to him and only him. It was actually kind of gross. Hanabi sat smirking across from them, it seemed she had concocted another devious plan to embarrass Tenten.
"Hey Neji, did amazon ever tell you about the time when we went to the amusement park and she split her pants getting off the drop ride?! Everyone knows what her favorite color is now!"
Tenten balled her fist up, fire in her eyes. "Why you little brat! Shut your mouth before I come over there!"
"You ain't gonna do nothing'!" her sister said before sicking her tongue out.
Tenten was two seconds away from jumping over the table when her father walked out his bedroom, a grim look on his face. His eyes landed on Neji for a second before he turned his attention to Hinata. "Mrs. Senju would like to speak with you after homeroom today." His eyes returned to Neji's. "I had planned on speaking with you beforehand, however I was unaware we would be having a guest over for breakfast."
Hinata watched as her father placed documents in his briefcase before snapping it shut. "D-do you have a-an interview."
Her father gave her a soft smile. "Yes, for a position at the malls financial operations department. Wish me luck."
Tenten fist pumped the air. "Good luck."
Her sister slid out her chair and grabbed her fathers hand. "Write person on your hand and swallow it if you start to get nervous! It works every time!"
Hiashi nodded and planted a kiss on her forehead before giving Hinata one last look. "I...Will speak with you tonight. I promise."
The school seemed to be abuzz with gossip when she walked through the front doors. It was like her old school. People whispering by their lockers and giggling in corners. The stairwells were crowded and no one seemed to be in much of a hurry to get to homeroom. Not even the teachers. Hinata tilted her head to the side as she watched Ms. Mitarashi, Kuranai and Kakashi chatter in hushed voices while standing in the middle of the hallway. She didn't think they were the type to gossip, but she guessed no one was really who they seemed to be. She watched them as she walked passed, biting her lip as they looked up at her—their conversation stopping completely until she was out of earshot once more. Were they talking about her?
She made her way to her homeroom, suddenly hyper aware of all the lingering gazes and poorly covered giggles. Did she do something gossip worthy? Nothing that she could think of. Unless...Someone must have seen Naruto walk her home last night! Her face heated immediately. That's so embarrassing. Maybe they thought something happened, or maybe it's because Naruto is older than her, or maybe-
"Hey, Hinata!"
The young woman looked up from her feet—which she had no idea she'd been looking at- and narrowly missed bumping into Moegi. "O-oh! I'm S-sorry!"
The girl waved her off and pulled our her iphone, sliding her finger across it a few times before shoving it in her face. "This just went around the entire school this morning. I mean, the entire school. Everyone's seen it. Even Kabuto the Janitor has!"
Hinata blinked at the pixelized photo and gasped. It was her. And Naruto. Outside her house. Kissing. Oh gods, why?!
The phone jingled so Moegi pulled it away to tap on it again. "So are you two an item now? Like a legit thing?"
Hinata blushed and shrugged. She didn't even get a chance to talk to him about...them. She liked him and he liked her but did that mean they were dating? OH! What would her father say about dating an older man!?
"I-i'm going to class..." She whispered as she pushed passed her classmate and rushed to her homeroom. She didn't think she could take anymore 'attention'.
When the day was over, Hinata was completely and utterly exhausted. Aside from falling off the obstacle course again, she had to duck and dodge her fellow school mates hell bent on 'obtaining information' on her and Naruto. Kiba and Ino even had to fight off a few. In a word, her day was absolute shit, and she wasn't one to curse. So when she was escorted to the principle's office as soon as the last bell rang, Hinata wanted nothing more than to curl into the fetal position and cry her pretty gray eyes out. She stood outside Mrs. Senju's door quietly, she didn't want to give her any indication that she was there in a futile attempt to delay the inevitable.
"You can go ahead in Hinata." Shizune said quite loudly. "She's expecting you."
Hinata sighed and opened the door slowly. Mrs. Senju motioned for her to hurry and waved her hand at a seat on the opposite side of the big wooden desk. The young woman nodded, closing the door behind her before taking the seat offered.
Mrs. Senju folded her hands on the desk, her ample breasts resting on the surface directly behind them, and sighed. The look on her face darkened and her eyebrows furrowed, she seemed stressed about something. Well, she was the principle of a school for government agents, maybe the press caught wind of the story and now she was being hounded, or maybe she had to fire some of the teachers for leaking secrets to the enemy or maybe—
"—Hinata. We, my boss and I, have an important task for you to complete."
The young woman blinked. A task? Why her? She could barely finish the obstacle course let alone take on a –oh gods—a mission! "U-u-um, i-I don't t-think that is—"
"—We need you to keep an eye on one of our previous students. He graduated second in his class, only 5 points behind Uchiha, Sasuke. We believe he may be knowledgeable, or even involved in some…confidential matters. His psychological exam at the end of his last semester concluded that should he fall into the wrong hands, he could be used against the United States Government…we believe he already has and it's up to you to obtain evidence of his possible betrayal." The blonde principle slid a manila folder to Hinata who took it gingerly.
Opening the folder slowly, she swallowed hard before looking at the photo clipped to the inside. Grey eyes and stern features stared back at her and she gasped almost silently. "N-neji? Why? H-how?" Taking a deep breath she looked away from the photo and up at the woman. "Why me?"
Mrs. Senju leaned forward in her seat. "There is something that you have that Neji cherishes. Something rare, and hereditary.…I'm sure you know what this is by now. I was informed of Sakura's…slip up."
"My…my b-blood disorder?" Hinata bit her lip and looked down at the photo. "What…what d-does that h-have to—"
"Listen to me. Neji also has the blood disorder. A blood disorder that only a handful of people in the entire world possess. A blood disorder that is hereditary, written in your genetic code. A blood disorder your sister doesn't possess…"
Hinata shook her head. "I-I don't understand, h-how—"
"—Neji Himitsu is your biological brother. Your full blooded, biological brother. Hanabi isn't. She's only your half-sister." When Hinata didn't say anything she sighed. "Hiashi is not your father Hinata. He did not contribute to your genetic code, do you understand? I need you to understand this so that we can move on. There is too much that we need to discuss and if you—"
"—So…my life is a lie?" Hinata looked to the woman, her gray eyes dull. "My father…My sister…it's a lie? Why? Why was…why did…why…" Tears welled up in the girls eyes and her lips trembled.
"I apologize. The 'why' is still confidential until you find out if Neji is a traitor or not. There is a lot riding on you Hinata, you need to understand that. Failure is not an option at this point. The only ones capable of getting close to Neji is you and your friend, however Miss. Koda has already been compromised. She's already fallen completely in love with him."
"What if…w-what if I-I choose not to."
Mrs. Senju stood up and circled around to the front of the desk, sitting on the edge and looking down at the girl, not a shred of sympathy in her eyes. "You don't have a choice."
The two of them were silent. How could this…this…woman just tell her this and then expect her to work for her? Her chest hurt and her eyes stung from the tears.
"Hinata…Your mother may be in danger. That is all I can tell you, please understand that this is not a matter of just obtaining information. This is a matter of international security. Your mother could die if we do not find out."
Her mother?! What did her mother have to do with this?! Of course…there had to be a connection or else she wouldn't have attended the same school as…as…as her brother…but….what in the world.
"I-if I find out…you'll tell me everything?" When Mrs. Senju nodded she sighed and bit her lip nervously. "What do I have to do?"
A/N: Well, we've reached the peak of the second Arc. I hope I put enough fluff at the beginning of the chapter for everyone, it seems as though I've had a lack of romance in my life and nothing to reference this off of! Thanks a lot long term relationship. Review your thoughts and predictions, I always love reading about what you think is going to happen next! Until Next time my loves!
