Lewis's next stop was to his former defense attorney's apartment. How he got the address was a mystery, since after the trial she had moved elsewhere. There was no surprise when Vanessa Mayer had stepped down to represent after Lewis killed her father then tortured and raped her mother. It must have felt so distrusting to have this wolf and sheep's clothing. To think you know someone, and then have that person deceive you. She had invited this man to her home, and he took that from her. The safety and security a that it brought. More lives destroyed by one man. To say she was shocked to see him was an understatement.
"Please! Please, don't!" The red head tried to scream past the duct tape that had been wrapped around her mouth and head, her hair caught in the adhesive. Rafael unable to evade at all. He pulled at his restraints, so much that his wrists burned, unable to break free from the chair. Lewis had stuffed a dishtowel in Rafael's mouth and secured it with duct tape, stopping him from yelling. The cloth soaked up all the moisture, making his tongue and mouth desertly dry. They were directly across from each other in her Livingroom. It felt like players in ping pong game, torture passing back and forth.
Vanessa had apparently hobby of old-time wax seal stamps. This required wax to be melted with an open flame and to use an engraved solid brass design on a wooden handle to be pressed, leaving a unique design on the wax. Lewis had quite a disturbing interest in it, Using the flame on the metal. Vanessa and Rafael's skin had been littered with burned brands. Rafael had this sore snowflake design singed on his chest. Lewis's irony of a wintry picture being burned.
Vanessa's torn bloodied shirt was scattered in pieces on the floor. She wept as she lay face down on her stomach on the sofa, hogtied. Her skirt was rolled up to her waist almost like a belt. Lewis had used the fabric to pull her around as a ragdoll. Her stockings were torn with runs from Lewis's nails.
"Nessa darling aren't we having fun. Think we should make the same scars in you as your mom." Lewis looked right into her eyes. He was smoking a cigarette. With each puff he would blow the smoke in her face. She sobbed more, eyeliner streaking down here cheeks.
"and poor Tyler." Lewis laughed looking to the kitchen area by the door. The pool of blood where Vanessa's new boyfriend laid had begun to darken as it seeped into the fibers of the pale blue carpet. The man's head was caved in. Lewis had got the jump on him when he made an unexpected visit to her apartment. Vanessa cried even more, her nose running causing her to choke. Lewis knelt to meet her eye level. "Shhhhh, You have to understand. I can only have one male protagonist, and Tyler just didn't fit the bill." He flung the ash from her cigarette onto her, cause her to try and shake it off, fearing that it would ignite.
Lewis dropped the cigarette, using his boot to grind it into the carpet. He reached in his back pocket, bringing out his switchblade and holding it up to her cheek. The caused Vanessa to wail even more. "I think she is good and ready for me." He took a long breath next to her ear.
Rafael used his whole body to struggle, his voice muffled against his gagged tried to shout, tried to antagonize him, get the focus off Vanessa.
"This is going to be fun and Counselor remember, you look away and I cut her even more."
Olivia sat in the locker room on one of the benches. She had her head in her hands. It had been hours since they got back. So far forensics were still processing his apartment. Some information resulted proving what they already knew. All the DNA came back as Barba's.
After her spat with Murphy she just had to get away from the group for a few minutes. She didn't know what to do. Every lead had little to go on. They still weren't sure of the car he could be driving or where he was headed. Would he leave the city? Officer Delano stood nearby, her back leaning against at set of lockers. The clock on the wall slowly ticked each second.
"Lewis is on!" Rollins burst in through the door.
Olivia ran out of the locker room to the huddle of people in the bullpen; everyone's eyes were focused on the phone. Then they looked at her.
"Answer it." Lieutenant Murphy ordered.
"No. You gotta make him wait. You make him wait, it'll make him angry. When he gets angry, he gets sloppy." It was a true statement. Though making him angry could cause him to take it out on Barba. That thought ate at her every second that passed. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. She took the phone off hold. Knowing that Lewis had to listen to a minute of elevator music had made her almost smile.
"Lewis." She had hoped that he didn't hear her almost studder out the words.
"Speakerphone, huh? You know better than that. Take me off, now." Of course, he could tell. Fooling Lewis was nearly impossible. He was much more intelligent than people assumed.
"It's just us. Lewis, you want me. You know you do. Let him go." What did he want?
"I don't think so. Me and the good counselor are gonna discuss more into my case. Hopefully I can get off." Lewis laughed loudly at his inuendo. "Say hi counselor."
"Liv don't listen to him. He's just manipul- "She heard Barba's voice briefly before getting cut off. He was alive still. That was something.
"That's enough."
"Lewis, listen to me. Just tell me where you are and I will come meet you, whatever you want." Olivia tried to bait him with anything. Right now, she only wanted Barba. If Lewis got away, she would have to accept that. So many times, a hostage dies in the process. What was Lewis's plan? The videos, the notes and the calls, it wasn't his normal process. He was being increasingly risky. No one knew what this all would result in.
"I don't know Olivia. I kinda like having him around. Never really got to have a bros night. He got the same show that you did, and boy was it was fire. Gotta going but I'll be in touch now. Bye Bye."
"Wait Lew-." All she heard was the dial tone.
"He's gone, he hung up." Fin said.
She threw the phone down. Fuck. Double fuck! Everyone stared at her. God, could they not judge her. She fucked up. There was still a chance that they were able to trace his call. Him toying around with her was making her crazy. Oliva went to turn back to the locker room. In mid turn she realized what his last phrase meant. Olivia pieced together the small clue. He obviously had a girl.
Show
Oliva tried to think. She was forced to watch a lot of things. But one stuck in her head.
"Vanessa Mayer!" She shouted towards Fin. "That's where he is at."
"How do you know?" Liutenant Murphy questioned.
"He raped her mother and forced me to watch."
Lewis was tying up loose ends. His defense attorney stepping down might have cause him to hold a grudge but what was she supposed to do? Represent the man that destroyed her family. That was why he was so twisted. Lewis held resentment to the situations that he created.
"Okay. Let's move out. Rollins, with me to Vanessa's apartment. Amaro, Fin I want you to head to the mother's."
Olivia went over to her chair to grab her jacket, but Murphy had already known what she was up to.
"No. You stay put. There's a good chance that Lewis could be waiting for you or could be across the street, on a roof with a sniper rifle."
"Lieutenant Murphy, I'm a cop. I've been in situations like this. I can handle it." She uttered.
"I am not taking that risk. You're off the case."
"but" Olivia was shocked. Off the case. She was the case.
"Sit your ass down. That's an order. Murphy barked at her. Rollins gave her a sympathetic look before following the rest of the squad out the door. Olivia collapsed in her seat.
If she didn't feel helpless now, she sure felt it now.
A/N – Sorry for shortness but this is the best way to lead into the next chapter. For anyone who is still following this, a huge thank you. I have always wanted to make this fic of Barba getting kidnapped by Lewis. See you next time TTFN.
