Chapter 3: Tropical Resort - Act 2
Captain Marvel hovered in mid-air, the vibrant neon lights of Tropical Resort gleaming on her like a distant galaxy. The amusement park stretched out in all directions, with spiraling rails, floating platforms, and glowing palm trees swaying gently in the artificial breeze. Her cosmic awareness tingled, and with a smirk, she clenched her fists, her hands glowing with energy.
"Alright, Eggman. Let's see what you've got."
With a surge of speed, Captain Marvel shot forward, a streak of golden light trailing behind her as she began her run—well, fly—through Tropical Resort.

The Captain's flight was effortless, her body slicing through the air with precision as she weaved between the spiraling rails and floating platforms. The neon glow of the resort lit up the pathways below, creating a mesmerising display of color and motion. But Captain Marvel's focus was elsewhere—her cosmic awareness had picked up a cluster of Heartless ahead, hiding in the shadows of the towering palm trees and waiting to strike.
Without breaking her momentum, she unleashed a series of powerful energy blasts from her hands, each one hitting its mark with pinpoint accuracy. The Neoshadows disintegrated on impact, their forms dissolving into wisps of darkness as they failed to catch her.
As she flew higher, more Neoshadows leapt from the floating platforms, their claws reaching out to claw her down. But they were far too slow. With a grin, Captain Marvel spun in mid-air, delivering a powerful kick that sent several Heartless flying off into pretty much orbit.
Eggman's voice crackled over the park's PA system, echoing through the neon-lit pathways below.
"Please be aware that the woman in red and blue is not authorised to fly through this zone! This is a non-flying area!"
"Yeah, good luck enforcing that," Captain Marvel muttered under her breath, easily blasting a Neoshadow that had leaped toward her.
The dark creature disintegrated in a puff of smoke, its attempt laughable against Captain Marvel's cosmic powers.
With a slight flare of energy, she descended back to the ground, her boots landing with a heavy thud. The neon-lit walkway stretched ahead of her, the vibrant hues of Tropical Resort in stark contrast to the dark shapes materialising before her. Just as she prepared to move forward, a group of Big Body Heartless emerged from the shadows, their massive forms blocking her path.
Captain Marvel sized them up, raising an eyebrow. The Big Body Heartless lumbered toward her, their oversized bellies gleaming as they tried to use their bulk to intimidate. But The Captain wasn't intimidated.
"So... that's your game? Big bellies, huh?" She cracked her knuckles, energy crackling at her fingertips. "Let's see how tough you really are."
The first Big Body Heartless lumbered closer, its large belly acting as a shield, clearly expecting its size to protect it. With a confident smirk, Captain Marvel shot forward, her fist glowing with raw energy. She didn't slow down as she slammed her fist directly into the Heartless' gut.
BOOM!
Her punch tore straight through the creature's belly with ease, and the Big Body Heartless exploded into a cloud of darkness, completely obliterated. Captain Marvel landed gracefully on her feet, brushing off her gloves like it was no big deal.
"Thought so," she said casually.
Two more Big Body Heartless moved in, this time coming from both sides, trying to catch her in a pincer movement. Captain Marvel narrowed her eyes.
"Alright, let's make this quick."
In an instant, she shot upward, hovering just above the creatures' reach. They looked up in confusion, their slow movements too sluggish to track her. With a burst of speed, Captain Marvel rocketed between them, delivering a crushing blow to the first Heartless' belly, sending it exploding into darkness. Without missing a beat, she spun in mid-air and fired an energy blast at the second one, vaporizing it before it could even react.
"You Heartless really need to hit the gym," Captain Marvel quipped.
With the Heartless dispatched, Captain Marvel continued forward, her pace steady and confident. The park might've been filled with bright colors and cheery music, but it was clear that something far darker was at play.
In the distance, she spotted a towering ferris wheel spinning slowly, its bright lights flickering against the night sky like a beacon. A deep rumble echoed from its direction, followed by the faint sound of clattering machinery. That had to be the source of the commotion. Carol's eyes narrowed in on the distant attraction.
"Guess the fun's over that way," she muttered to herself.
With a flash of energy, she shot into the air, a golden streak blazing across the sky as she soared toward the ferris wheel.
As Captain Marvel zipped through the air, more Neoshadows materialised from the shadows below, leaping up toward her with claws extended, hoping to drag her down. She smirked, barely breaking her momentum.
"Am I really supposed to be impressed by this?" she quipped, raising a glowing hand.
With a simple gesture, Captain Marvel fired off a series of energy blasts, each shot perfectly aimed at the incoming Heartless. They dissolved into puffs of darkness before they could get anywhere near her. She dodged and weaved through the air with effortless grace, soaring over rails and platforms as she made her way closer to the ferris wheel.
Eggman's voice blared over the PA system again, clearly irritated now.
"Attention, guests! I must remind you that unsanctioned flying in the park is strictly prohibited! Especially if you're the woman in red and blue. This is your final warning!"
Captain Marvel rolled her eyes, dodging a cluster of floating platforms.
"Final warning? Sure, Eggman," she muttered sarcastically, "I'll totally take that under advisement."
As she neared the ferris wheel, her keen eyes spotted something unusual. Suspended mid-air just ahead of her was a floating capsule—inside, several of the glowing alien creatures were trapped, their tiny forms glowing brightly against the metallic casing. They writhed and twisted, clearly desperate to escape.
"More of those creatures," Captain Marvel noted.
Without a second thought, she shot toward the capsule, energy crackling around her fists.
She landed beside it on a hovering platform, her hands glowing as she ripped the capsule open with ease. The creatures, now free, floated around her in circles, chattering excitedly in their incomprehensible language. One of them hovered close to her face, babbling and gesturing wildly with enthusiasm.
Captain Marvel blinked, trying to make sense of the gibberish.
"I don't know what you just said... but you're welcome, I guess."
She gave a small, amused smirk as the creatures continued their excited ramblings, before they zipped away, disappearing into the distance.
"Good luck, little guys," she said softly, watching them fly off before turning her attention back to the ferris wheel.
Without wasting any more time, she shot off once again, flying toward the towering structure. The lights of the ferris wheel flickered ominously, and she knew this wasn't just an amusement park ride—it was another piece of Eggman's twisted plan.
"Alright, let's see what you've hidden over here, Eggman," Captain Marvel muttered, her eyes locking onto the towering ferris wheel just ahead.
After flying over some obstacles, Captain Marvel descended into a wide, open plaza area—a place that should have felt like a cheerful, bustling part of the amusement park, but instead, it felt off. The plaza was eerily quiet, save for the distant hum of the ferris wheel and the faint flicker of malfunctioning lights overhead.
Captain Marvel floated in place for a moment, taking in the scene. Brightly lit game booths lined the area, filled with prizes that would have been enticing to any regular guest. There were glowing fountains, shooting jets of neon-colored water into the air, and even some life-size Eggman statues posing proudly. The cheerful design was clearly meant to distract from something more sinister.
"Well, this is cute," Captain Marvel muttered, a smirk tugging at her lips. "Almost makes you forget the whole 'evil amusement park' thing."
But her moment of amusement was short-lived. The Neoshadows and Big Body Heartless began to materialise from the shadows, their glowing yellow eyes locking onto her with sinister intent. The plaza quickly filled with Heartless, surrounding her from all sides.
"You guys just don't know when to quit, huh?" Captain Marvel remarked.
Her hands began to glow with energy, crackling with power as the Heartless started to close in.
Before she could make her move, Eggman's voice blared over the PA system once again, dripping with artificial cheerfulness.
"A friendly reminder to all guests: Please treat our Heartless security team with the utmost respect! They are here to ensure your safety... or at least, they were before they were vaporised. Thank you."
Captain Marvel let out a laugh, shaking her head.
"Respect? For these guys? You gotta be kidding me."
In one swift motion, Captain Marvel shot forward, blazing through the plaza like a streak of light. The Neoshadows barely had time to react before her fists slammed into them, disintegrating their dark forms into clouds of nothingness. With every punch, another Heartless vanished into the ether. She rocketed toward a Big Body Heartless, which attempted to block her path with its oversized belly. But Captain Marvel wasn't impressed.
"Sorry, not today!" she quipped, charging her fist and punching straight through the Heartless' belly. The creature exploded into a cloud of darkness, just like the others.
Eggman's voice rang out again, this time more annoyed.
"Please note, assaulting park security will result in severe consequences! And by severe, I mean mild—probably a stern talking-to!"
Captain Marvel just laughed, zipping through the final wave of Heartless with ease.
"Guess I'll take my chances," she said as she blasted the last Neoshadow out of existence.
As the plaza cleared of enemies, the Captain's eyes landed on a walkway up ahead. Her gaze followed the trail until it reached a strange, hovering Gold Ring, spinning slowly in the air like a giant, glowing portal.
"What the heck is that?" Captain Marvel muttered, squinting at the bizarre ring. "A giant hula hoop?"
Shaking her head in disbelief, she shot forward again, zooming across the walkway as if it were a runway. More Neoshadows appeared along the path, but they were little more than an afterthought to her now. Captain Marvel smashed through them without breaking a sweat, her fists glowing with cosmic energy as she tore through the final wave of enemies.
The giant Goal Ring loomed closer, hovering just ahead of her. Captain Marvel slowed her speed, hovering in front of it and examining the ring with a mix of curiosity and confusion. The glow was almost hypnotic, spinning lazily as if waiting for her to pass through.
"Do I... go through it?" she wondered aloud, floating there, slightly puzzled.
Before she could decide, Eggman's voice came over the loudspeakers once more, dripping with sarcastic glee.
"Oh, how embarrassing! It's a ring, genius. You fly through it! Not rocket science, but then again..."
"You done? Because I've got other places to be!" Captain Marvel said unimpressed.
With that, she powered up, her body glowing bright with energy, and in a flash, she shot forward, smashing through the Goal Ring with a burst of speed. As she passed through, a strange but oddly satisfying sensation washed over her, like she'd just crossed the finish line of a race.
Captain Marvel slowed to a stop, glancing back at the now-spinning ring. She raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a smirk.
"That was... odd. But satisfying," she mused.
With the mission complete, she floated in the air for a moment, feeling the strange sense of completion before shrugging it off. There was still plenty of work to be done, and Eggman wasn't going to stop himself.
"Alright, time to find Eggman!" Captain Marvel muttered as she landed gracefully on the ground, her boots making a soft thud against the neon-lit plaza.
RANK: S
Captain Marvel looked up at the Ferris Wheel, now looming closer than ever. The creaking of its massive structure was mixed with the cheerful park music, but Carol could sense something off about it.
"Looks like I'm getting closer," she affirmed confidently.
Just then, a blur of blue dashed into view, skidding to a stop next to her. Sonic, with his trademark cocky grin, appeared with Tails following behind, still clutching his Miles Electric, and the alien creature, Yacker, floating by his side. Sonic's green eyes darted around for a second, taking in the now-cleared area where Heartless once roamed.
"Not bad," Sonic remarked, arms crossed, though his tone was blunt. "Guess you're not just flying around for show.
Tails, wide-eyed and clearly fascinated, looked up at Captain Marvel with admiration, though his curiosity got the better of him.
"Wow, your powers are amazing!" he exclaimed. "I mean, those energy blasts were off the chart—how do you do all that?"
Carol glanced at Tails, her lips curling into a small smirk as she replied.
"So, I'm taking you're the brains of the group, huh?" she said teasingly, trying to get under Sonic's skin.
"Whoa, whoa, hold up! Smart one?" Sonic remarked, taken back by the teasing comment. "I mean, yeah, Tails is a genius, but—"
Tails interrupted, too eager to care about Sonic's wounded ego.
"I must ask, how did you get those powers?" the fox questioned. "Were you born with them? Or...?"
Carol's smirk faded slightly as she crossed her arms, considering the best way to explain her origin without getting lost in the details.
"It's a long story, but to keep it simple. There was an explosion—a Psyche-Magnitron explosion. I was caught in the blast, and the radiation combined with my Kree-human DNA, transferred over from the original Captain Marvel. That's how my powers awakened."
Sonic and Tails exchanged glances, blinking in confusion.
"Wait... what?" Sonic scratched his head. "A Psyche-Magni-what now?"
Tails was already wide-eyed with curiosity as he probed further.
"There was another Captain Marvel? And what's a Kree? Is that a world or—?"
"Hold up," Sonic interrupted. "Did you say Kree? What even is that?"
Even Yacker seemed eager to ask something, floating next to Tails and babbling in his usual gibberish, though his excitement was clear.
Carol held up her hands, looking a little exasperated.
"Alright, I get it, I opened up Pandora's box here," she remarked. "But how about this? I'll answer all your questions... after we stop Eggman. Deal?"
Sonic and Tails exchanged a quick look before nodding in unison.
"Deal," Sonic said, flashing a grin.
"Absolutely," Tails agreed, his curiosity still burning, but understanding they had bigger things to handle right now.
Captain Marvel nodded in return, her tone softening slightly.
"You know, I didn't catch your names earlier..." she admitted.
Sonic gave a half-smile and thumbed at himself.
"Name's Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog. Fastest thing alive."
Tails stepped forward with a polite smile.
"And I'm Miles Prower. But everyone calls me Tails."
Captain Marvel glanced between them, her usual tough exterior loosening slightly.
"Well, it's good to meet you both. As you already know, I'm Captain Marvel. And to answer the next question I know you're gonna ask—no, it's not my real name. My real name's Carol Danvers."
Sonic tilted his head, blinking as he replied.
"Wait, Carol? That's a lot... less... cosmic than I was expecting," he said playfully.
Carol chuckled, "Yeah, I get that a lot," she admitted.
"Nice to meet you, Carol!" Tails remarked thoughtfully. "And, you know, your powers are seriously awesome!"
Sonic shrugged, "Yeah, I guess you're not bad, Captain Carol."
"Captain Carol, huh? Don't get used to it, hedgehog," Carol replied with a sly smirk.
The banter was light, but there was a thawing of the tension between them. They were warming up to each other, and Carol could sense that while they were different, Sonic and Tails had heart—and they were as dedicated to stopping Eggman as she was.
Tails then turned toward the Ferris Wheel, now towering just ahead of them.
"This Ferris Wheel has to be connected to whatever Eggman's up to," Tails said, tapping at his Miles Electric. "I think you and Sonic should go check it out. I'll stay here and keep working on the translator for our new friend."
He gestured to Yacker, who floated by his side, still babbling in his strange language.
"You and me, huh? Think you can keep up, Captain?" Sonic teased, looking up to Carol.
Carol glanced down at Sonic and gave a small smirk.
"Keep up?" she questioned. "Don't slow me down, Sonic."
Sonic crossed his arms, not backing down from the challenge.
"I'll try not to leave you in the dust," he exclaimed.
Tails, sensing the competitive energy building between them, smiled sheepishly.
"Uh, guys? Maybe teamwork?" he mused.
Carol gave Sonic a side-eye, "Fine. But if you get tired, just let me know, and I'll carry you."
"Ha!" Sonic laughed. "Don't worry about me. Just try to keep up."
With that, the two heroes turned toward the Ferris Wheel, both ready to dive into whatever Eggman had set up for them. As they prepared to take off, Yacker floated closer to Carol, babbling excitedly.
Carol looked at the tiny creature, offering a small smile.
"I still don't know what you're saying, but don't worry—we'll get to the bottom of this."
"I'll have that translator ready soon. Good luck, guys!" Tails exclaimed.
"We got this!" Sonic said confidently, giving Tails a thumbs up.
Carol and Sonic shared one last glance, a mix of rivalry and budding camaraderie in the air.
"Let's do this, hedgehog" Carol said, her energy flaring as she took to the sky.
"Race you, Captain!" Sonic remarked.
With a rush of energy and excitement, the two heroes dashed toward the Ferris Wheel, ready to face whatever challenge awaited them next.
Another chapter done.
Carol's origin story comes from Marvel v Capcom lore. Later in the story, she will diver deeper into her past. But the same time, so will Sonic and Tails. Linking to their previous adventures against the Heartless.
The idea for each world is 3/4 acts. This will help breakdown the chapters and making them less wordy. Trying to aim for quality over quantity.
Also, I chose Tropical Resort Act 3's music over Act 2, as I thought it fitted Carol's scene better.
Onto Act 3!
