Chapter Five:
Preparing for The Heist
Inkling pop music blared from the radio as Makerboy went over the diagram that he'd put together. He spent a couple minutes gathering research on the Vilron-Phrisk vault, then he took down notes, and proceeded to draw up the diagram for how he was going to get in, get the Crystal, and get out of there without any trouble.
Of course, any attempt to sneak in underground or on the ground would be ruined due to the security there. It was easier to get in from above, sneak inside from the rooftop, and make his way down to the vault. However, there were still security systems to disable. And Makerboy knew he was not going to do this alone.
On his list of what to do for the heist, he had plans to get people to help him. Some were shady, some were kind. On the shady side of things, Makerboy was taking a risk, and it was going to be hard to say "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." But, hopefully, they would understand his plight.
"...Just gotta be careful going through the vent, can't make a noise..." Makerboy muttered to himself, "Then we gotta take care of the guards near the vault. Hope Swag and Chris ain't there, I'd be happy to try and get them on my side."
He went over his heist plan again, then he looked over the list of people to recruit once more. His first person to approach would be Bob. Bob loved doing shady $#! , so why not get him involved?
Makerboy put away the diagram for his heist plan, then the Inkling shut off the radio and put it way. And then, he picked up a coin with a Warp Pipe symbol on it, and flipped it in the air.
A Warp Pipe made its appearance, then Makerboy morphed into his squid form and jumped in, letting the pipe take him right to the Mushroom Kingdom, to where he needed to go. And to his luck, Makerboy found Bob Bobowski right as he was exiting a casino. The ex-rapper hadn't changed that much, and Makerboy was more than happy to see his... face.
The green-haired Inkling walked right up to Bob, and tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey, Bob. How's it goin'?" Makerboy asked.
"MaKeRbOy10?!" Bob exclaimed, "LoNg TiMe No SeE, bRo. WhAt ArE yOu Up To RiGhT nOw?"
"I wanna get my girlfriend this amazing charm, but its super expensive and I don't have enough money, but the best way to get enough money is to sell something. There's this space gemstone tucked away in a vault and I plan to get it, you wanna help a dude with a heist?"
"OMG, OMG, OMG!" Bob's face lit up, "YoU'rE aCtUaLlY dOiNg a VaUlT rAiD? HeLl YeAh, cOuNt Me In."
"Great, now I gotta get someone else on my list." Makerboy checked off 'Bob Bobowski' on his heist partners list, "And I didn't think I'd have to get him involved, considering that he doesn't like illegal activity."
Bob's eyes widened. "GaSp!" He exclaimed, "DoN't TeLl Me YoU'rE gOnNa..."
Yup, Makerboy was going to recruit Mr. Hal Monitor, the SMG4 equivalent to RoboCop. Hal Monitor had history as a security guard, and he was a hero to a degree. Hopefully, he'd understand Makerboy's plight clearly enough to make an exception of just one heist. He was a robot after all, but he was capable of happiness."
Makerboy and Bob headed downtown and found Hal Monitor by a lamp post, just minding his own business as he watched the street. Bob nodded to Makerboy, then the Inkling morphed into his squid form and rolled on up to the computer-headed robot.
"Yo, Hal Monitor." Makerboy waved.
Hal Monitor turned around and his face flashed his happy expression that he often showed. "Makerboy10, how may I help you today?" The robotic cop asked.
"Long story short, there's a charm I wanna buy that'll break a curse on my girlfriend, but I don't have enough money..." Makerboy explained, "However, there is a way to make enough money, by selling the Kaira Star Crystal. The problem is, its in a vault..."
"Sounds serious." Hal commented.
Makerboy breathed slowly. "Yeah, and I know you don't like activity you consider illegal..." He finally said, "But I would like your assistance in breaking into the Vilron-Phrisk Vault so I can get it, even though you're not the type to break into a place."
Hal Monitor observed Makerboy for a second, and then...
"I will help." He said.
Makerboy was surprised, even filled with relief. "Really? You're not gonna stop me and arrest me?" He quipped.
"You're trying to cure your girlfriend of a curse, aren't you?" Hal Monitor smiled, "Curses are..." He flashed his nightmare fuel-invoking angry face for a second, "...ver L! And that vault isn't a friendly environment, especially given the man in charge, who was the one who put your star crystal in the vault."
The robot cop pulled out a phone and showed Makerboy a picture. The green Inkling gasped, seeing the image of a tall Inkling in a black suit, holding a cane. He'd seen that image a few times on the news, he knew who this Inkling was.
"Wilson Fisk is running the vault?!" Makerboy exclaimed.
"Yeah, can't you believe Spider-Man's nemesis The Kingpin is an Inkling now?" Hal Monitor remarked, "And word has it that he plans to sell off that crystal of yours to a mafia in a few days. I've never done heist-spy action before, but this is the perfect opportunity to humiliate that crook. High-five, Makerboy."
Makerboy high-fived Hal Monitor with a grin, feeling relief that the robot was on his side. "HeCk YeAh!" Bob exclaimed as he joined the two, "HaL MoNiToR hAs JoInEd ThE pArTy. LoOkS lIkE yOu CaN cHeCk HiS nAmE oFf YoUr ReCrUiTmEnT lIsT, BrO."
"Well, I didn't know you hired Bob." Hal Monitor smiled with surprise.
"Speaking of recruiting..." Makerboy chuckled, "I was thinking about recruiting a certain pudgy Italian, given that he would happily jump at the chance..." He did a mock Italian accent, "...to do something very illegal."
"LoL, ThAt ImPrEsSiOn WaS qUiTe FuNnY!" Bob laughed.
"It was, and this may be the only 'illegal activity' I will allow to slide." Hal Monitor nodded, he pat Makerboy on the shoulder, "Now lets go recruit a Paisano."
