Author's note: this is my first Danny Phantom story, I thank Cthulhu rex and emyy250 for helping me, and this chapter takes place on the same day as the previous chapter and in case you don't remember, Paulina from the future calls herself Paula in the past.
The silence in the classroom felt thick and uncomfortable. Danny Fenton, still stunned by Paulina's unexpected proposal, was searching for the right words to respond. "I don't know, Paulina... I really don't know what to tell you. I need more time to think."
With a mixture of disappointment and hope, Paulina nodded. "It's okay, Danny. I understand. I'll talk to you later."
Danny, with a look of confusion, turned away from Paulina and walked over to his friends, Sam and Tucker, who were watching him curiously. "I don't understand," Danny whispered as he approached. "Paulina... asked me to go out with her again. And me? I don't know what to answer."
Tucker, with a shocked expression, let out a laugh. "Danny, are you kidding, you've always wanted Paulina to reciprocate! Why didn't you take her back?"
Danny shrugged, feeling a knot in his stomach. "Yes, I've always wanted her. But..."
"But what?" Sam, with a frown, interrupted. "Danny, I think Paulina is just playing with you. She's trying to manipulate you into accepting her."
Danny felt even more confused. "What are you saying, Sam, why would you think that?"
Sam folded his arms. "I just don't believe her, Danny. And I don't like the other Paulina, that Paula? She's exactly the same as Paulina. I'm sure they're the same on the inside too."
Danny looked at her, feeling a slight shiver run down his back. "I don't know, Sam... Paula... she gave me the impression of being different."
As Danny thought about Sam's words and the strange feeling Paula had left him with, Paulina, with a heavy heart, walked over to where she had left Paula. She found her, once again, surrounded by a group of boys courting her. Paula, with a kind but firm smile, gently turned them away. "Thank you, boys, but I'm not looking for company at the moment."
The boys, visibly disappointed, walked away, leaving Paula alone with Paulina.
"Well, how did it go?" asked Paula, with a curious expression.
Paulina told her what happened. "I told him I wanted to go out with him again, but he said I needed more time to think. Sam still thinks I'm playing games with him."
Paula frowned, sighing. "I don't understand, Paulina. Danny's in love with you at this time, why didn't he take you back?"
"I don't know, Paula. Maybe he's afraid I'm using him. Or maybe...maybe he's afraid I'm not what he wants."
Paula thought for a moment, her eyes filled with a deep look. "I think it's time to talk to Danny. After school."
As classes progressed, Paula couldn't help but think about what had happened. Why did Danny doubt Paulina's intentions, And Paulina also thought what had happened in the future to make Paula so determined to change her past?
As the bell rang announcing the end of classes, Paula approached Danny. "Danny, can I talk to you for a moment?"
Danny, who was heading toward Sam and Tucker, stopped when he heard Paula's voice. "Sure, Paula, what's this about?"
Danny was strangely drawn to Paula's gaze. It wasn't the same look as Paulina, that look full of coquetry and arrogance. This one was deeper, more brooding.
"I was wondering why you didn't accept Paulina's invitation," Paula said, her tone of voice soft and warm.
Danny looked at her, a little confused. "How, how do you know that?"
Paula smiled slightly. "It doesn't matter. What does matter is that I can't understand why you didn't accept her. Danny, I can tell you love her very much."
Danny felt a little uncomfortable with Paula's words. "Yes, but... it's not that easy. Paulina is... she's a little intense. And Sam thinks she's just messing with me."
Paula nodded, sighing. "I understand. But Danny, do you really think Paulina is using you? Or maybe she's just being honest? And don't worry about Sam, she doesn't understand what's going on."
Danny stood thoughtfully, watching Paula's intense stare. "What makes you say that?"
Paula shrugged her shoulders, with a gesture of mystery. "It's complicated. I just know there are things you don't know yet. Things that could change everything."
Danny was intrigued, sensing he was close to discovering something important. "Paula, what don't I know?"
Paula hesitated for a moment, but in the end decided to trust Danny. "I'll tell you one thing, Danny. What has happened between you and Paulina? Is going to change the future. What you both do now, will have consequences you never would have imagined."
Danny was perplexed, feeling a shiver run down his spine. "What do you mean?"
Paula leaned closer to him, whispering in an almost imperceptible tone of voice. "In the future, your life will be different than you think. And in that life... you... you won't be happy."
Danny felt stunned, his mind filled with doubt and uncertainty. "Paula, what are you telling me?"
Paula, with a rueful gesture, turned away from Danny. "I have to meet with Paulina. We'll talk later."
Danny watched Paula leave, feeling a strange mixture of curiosity and attraction. There was something about this girl that intrigued him, something that made him question everything he thought he knew.
Meanwhile, Paula joined Paulina in the corner of the schoolyard. "Danny... he's a mess," Paula said, sighing. "I don't understand why he didn't accept me - what doesn't he see?"
Paulina, her tone of voice filled with frustration, repeated the same question Paula had asked minutes earlier. "I don't know Paula, why does he doubt my intentions, why does he think I'm using him?"
The two Paulinas, their hearts full of confusion, headed for home. They needed to talk to Eros. Something was not working.
As they entered their room, they found Eros waiting for them.
"Girls," Eros said, in a calm tone of voice, "It's normal to feel confused. By changing the past, you can change things in unexpected ways. People may react differently than you expected."
Eros was about to say more, but suddenly, there was a soft knock on the door.
"Paulina, are you there?"
Star, Paulina's best friend, peeked through the door, with a smiling face.
Paulina felt a little uncomfortable. Star knew of Paula's existence, but she hadn't told her the truth. "Come in, Star," Paulina said, feeling slightly afraid. "What's wrong?"
Star walked in, watching Paula with a questioning look. "Paulina, who is she?"
Paulina and Paula looked at each other nervously, knowing they had reached a crucial point. This was the perfect opportunity to tell Star the truth.
"Star," Paulina said, her tone of voice serious. "Paula...it's me. It's me from the future."
Star, with a shocked expression, remained silent for a moment. "I don't understand you, Paulina, what are you saying?"
Paula, with a gesture of resignation, approached Star. "Star, I'm explaining. I traveled back in time to change the past. To help Paulina and Danny. But..."
Paulina, with a sigh, completed the sentence. "But by changing the past, we changed the future. And Danny... Danny now doubts my intentions."
Star, with an incredulous look, turned to Eros. "And what are you, are you a ghost?"
Eros, with a soft smile, nodded. "That's right, I'm Eros. And I'm here to help you."
Star felt a little scared, but forced herself to remain calm. "I need proof. How can I believe that Paula is really you from the future?"
Paulina and Paula looked at each other. What proof could they give Star?
"Star," Paulina said. "You know that me and Danny were always meant to be together, right? But with the past being changed, everything has gotten complicated. And we don't know what to do."
Star, with a sympathetic look, nodded. "I see. So what do you plan to do?"
Paula, with a sad smile, said, "We don't know, Star. We need your help. We don't know how to make Danny believe us."
Star, with a look full of inspiration, approached Paula and smiled at her. "Paula, you need a makeover. You need to look different than Paulina. That way, everyone will be able to tell who's who."
Paulina nodded, with a relieved smile. "That's a great idea, Star. What do you think, Paula?"
Paula looked at herself in the mirror, observing her reflection. There was not much difference between her and Paulina. Just a slight hint of maturity in her face and body, but the rest...they were identical.
"All right, Star," Paula said. "Let's do it."
Star enthusiastically began to make changes to Paula's look. First, she changed her hairstyle. Instead of wearing her hair straight like Paulina, Star made soft waves that gave her a more sophisticated touch. Then, she changed her hair clip for a blue one, which matched her eyes.
As for her clothes, Star suggested she change her style. Instead of wearing a crop top and skinny jeans like Paulina, he recommended that she wear a purple dress, with a gold belt that accentuated her waist. He also put a gold bracelet on her wrist, which gave her an elegant and rebellious touch.
Paula, looking at herself in the mirror, was surprised by the transformation. She looked different, more confident, more independent.
"Star, you're amazing," Paula said, with a grateful smile. "Thank you for helping me."
Star smiled, with a look full of satisfaction. "You're welcome, Paula. Now everyone will know who's who."
As Paulina and Paula prepared to leave the house, Danny sat in his room, thinking about what Paula had told him. Would it be true? Could he really change the future? And what would happen if he did change it?
Danny rose from his chair, walking to the window. He looked out at the Amity Park sky, his heart filled with uncertainty.
"To be continued..."
