No-One But You (The Star Child's Eclipse)

Chapter 15: She's a Star (Part 5)

So, guess what… if you're walking from the fancy skyscraper located at 432 Park Avenue to Brooklyn, New York, you'd have to walk SOUTHWEST in order to get there.

Tony Stark and Steve Rogers were on their way home, simply strolling along, but that's not the point.

The point resides within another fun fact… because you'd have to walk NORTHEAST to get from 432 Park Avenue to a section of New York called "The Bronx."

So…. Southwest, northeast, total opposites, are you catching the drift?

Wade Wilson lived in The Bronx, but he wasn't heading in that direction yet with Ezekiel Stane.

Long story short, those two weren't "paralleling" Tony and Steve in that precise moment, but the night was still young.

Steve was the one navigating their route home, and he decided to head down a long road that led to the Manhattan Bridge…

They were walking down 3rd Avenue at this point in the story, and Tony's icy demeanor had definitely eased up. Steve Rogers "warmed" it up, actually, because the man was on a mission.

He planned to ask Tony about his history with Obadiah Stane that evening, because it was the one thing in their relationship that had never been brought to light or discussed.

The blonde could clearly see that something was off about it, and… he needed to clarify a number of things.

Steve wasn't being nosy… he just… needed to know, and he wanted to understand how Tony really felt.

Bringing up the ghost of Obadiah Stane might have sparked a war between them, but… Steve felt prepared to face a war and handle that.

The conflict with all that had to do with Steve's approach. I mean, how in the world was he going to bring it up? Well, the blonde could happily throw Stephen Strange under the bus…

That thought crossed Steve's mind on more than one occasion, because the clever sorcerer technically had it coming.

Tony Stark's eyebrow slowly arched up as he continued walking, because the look on Steve's perfect face was hilarious.

The blonde was obviously scheming something adorable, and that was… fine. Tony didn't mind Steve's behavior at all. In fact, he actually welcomed it with open arms.

In Tony's expert opinion on himself, the situation wasn't that hard to navigate or understand. So, with that notion in mind, the "feisty" brunette drew in a slow breath, and he decided to shed some light on the "Ezekiel stuff."

"No one really upset me up there. I just left the scene because I foolishly wandered into enemy territory… that's all."

Did he want Steve perfect face Rogers to get on the same page with him on that? Yeah… but that beautiful blonde had a big ol' heart of gold. Tony understood Steve's behavior toward Wade and Ezekiel, so…

"I just… Ezekiel isn't a frightened little baby lamb, Steve. He's seriously PLAYING all of you, and you're too friggen nice to actually see it."

Oh? Steve Rogers definitely didn't see Ezekiel Stane as a "baby lamb," but he did believe that the somber Jackal was doing his best. He was trying to find his place in the world… and perhaps Tony was being a bit too critical.

Steve only cleared his throat a little as the two of them kept walking. He didn't want to interrupt Tony's point at all, and he inwardly hoped his little red corvette would elaborate on the subject.

"Just, don't fall for his charm.. okay? That's all I'm saying… and as for Wade? That fucker will turn on a dime and slit your throat. If push ever really comes to shove Steve, those two are a bad combo to fuck with…"

In Tony's expert opinion, Steve was getting way too friendly and WAY too close to Wade and Ezekiel….

To correct that issue, Tony felt like gracing Steve with some actual reality and facts. He saw that good-natured blonde's honest smile up there in the nightclub.

Steve's demeanor around them was, adorable, and…

"Wait. You don't want me to fall for who's charm? Ezekiel's charm?… Who's charm are you actually referring to, Tony…"

Uhm… a thick silence kinda took over the chat, and Steve Rogers decided to stop moving forward.

The blonde asked his follow-up question with an agenda in mind, and it made his date stop dead in his tracks…

...
