Beacon Courtyard (Day)
The airship landed at Beacon, letting Sapphire, Yang, and Ruby to leave it. "I thought Russo would be joining us when we landed." Ruby said.
"When have you ever known him to do what we think he's going to do? He's probably still asleep." Sapphire said.
"I take offense to that." Russo said from behind his brother, who responded quickly with a jab to his abdomen.
"I told you to stop doing that." Sapphire said angrily.
"Never." Russo said while clutching his side. "Anyways, how does it feel to finally be here at Beacon?" he asked his siblings.
"Well, the view sure beats the one at Signal." Yang said.
"Oh my god, Yang. Look! That kid's got a collapsible staff, and she's got a fire sword!" Ruby says as she floats over to the weapons. At least until Yang pulled her back into reality.
"Easy sis, they're just weapons." Yang said, failing to calm down her sister.
"Just weapons? They're a part of us!" Ruby said.
"Quite literally in some cases." Russo said, prompting his brother hit him again. "And aren't you happy with your own weapon?" he asked.
"Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose. It's just...I like seeing new ones. It's like meeting people, but better." Ruby said.
"C'mon, it ain't THAT hard to make friends." Russo said, prompting Sapphire to slap the back of his head.
"Really? How many friends did you make back at Signal?" the boy asked.
"Uh...That is not relevant." Russo answered. The answer was zero.
"Why would I need to make friends when I have you three?" Ruby asked.
"Well...myfriendsarealreadyherebeye!" Yang said as she grabbed Russo and ran off with a group of black cut-outs, leaving Ruby to spin around, not fully in control of her actions. Thankfully, Sapphire managed to catch her before she fell on top of a crabby white-haired girl.
"What are you doing!?" the girl yelled in a shrill voice. "Do you have any idea the kind of damage you could've done!? This is Dust, mined and purified from the Schnee Quarry." Ruby just stared at her, confused and scared, which only made the girl angrier. "What, are you braindead? Fire, Water, Lightning, Energy!" The girl kept shaking the vial in Ruby's face, causing her to sniffle a bit.
Acting fast, Sapphire stepped between Ruby and the girl.
"Uh, I was talking!" the girl said, getting on the boy's last nerve.
"If I hadn't intervened, you'd be a white stain on the pavement right now. In the future, I'd suggest sealing your Dust vials properly, princess." Sapphire said as his eyes started to glow a bright blue. Ruby grabbed his arm, trying to stop him.
"She's not worth it." Ruby told her brother. Huffing a breath of freezing air, his eyes returned to normal.
"It's actually heiress." Everyone looked to the source of the new voice to see a black-haired girl wearing a black bow. "Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company."
"Finally, some recognition!" Weiss says.
"The same company known for their shady business partners and controversial work forces." the girl said, animosity clear in her tone. Weiss was unable to form a comeback and left, stomping into the distance.
"Something tells me we'll see her again." Sapphire said, still a bit peeved at what happened.
"Thanks." Ruby said to the black-haired girl...who had left two minutes ago. "Ugh. Guess we're not the only ones with a bad first day. So, what now?" Ruby asked her brother.
"Hey!"
Looking behind them, Ruby and Sapphire saw a blonde kid wearing armor running towards them.
Beacon Courtyard (Day)
"I'm telling you; motion sickness is much more common than most people let on." the new boy said as he walked with the siblings toward the auditorium.
"Not my fault if Vomit-Boy was the first thing to come to mind." Ruby said, getting a groan from her brother.
"Well, what if I called you Glacier-Face?"
"That was Sapphire's fault!" Ruby said, pointing at her brother.
"Really?" her brother deadpanned.
"Sorry."
"Well, the name's Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue. Ladies love it." Jaune said, proud of himself.
"None of that was true." Sapphire said, ruining Jaune's mood.
"So...I got this thing." Ruby said, unfurling Crescent Rose and startling Jaune.
"Is that a scythe?!" Jaune asked, slightly frightened by the size of the weapon.
"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle." Ruby said, much to Jaune's confusion.
"Goddammit. It's also a gun." Sapphire explained.
"Oh. So, what can you do?" Jaune asked the boy. He looked at his sister, who smiled and nodded rapidly.
"Fine. I'll show you." Sapphire said as he placed one foot on the grass on the side of the trail. In an instant, the grass went from green to white as it couldn't handle the sub-zero temperatures.
'Holy mother of-' Jaune was left speechless at the boy's skill with his Semblance.
"So, what do you have?" Ruby asked as she withdrew her weapon.
"Uh, I got this sword." Jaune said, embarrassed that his weapon wasn't as spectacular as Ruby's Crescent Rose or Sapphire's Cocytus.
"Looks really similar to my big brother's weapon, with a few tweaks." Ruby noticed.
"And I also have this shield." Jaune said, pulling out his shield.
"What do they do?" Ruby asked, excited.
"Ruby, I don't think they have a mechashift function. Not all weapons can do that, ya know." Sapphire explained.
"Oh, sorry then." Ruby said sheepishly.
"It's okay. So, do either of you know where the auditorium is?" Jaune asked.
"We were following you." Sapphire deadpanned.
Auditorium (Evening)
"Ruby! I saved you a spot!" Yang yelled to her sister.
Ruby and Gregory quickly met up with their sister, but soon noticed that Russo was missing. "Where's Russo?" Ruby asked.
"He said he had something to do." Yang said, shrugging.
"Of course he did." Sapphire deadpanned.
"So how was your first day?" Yang asked, hoping for good news.
"Awful. Ruby nearly got blown up by a prissy girl who should know how to handle Dust better, and we made friends with a moron." Sapphire explained, tired from all the crap he dealt with.
"You almost had a meltdown? Ruby, you should know how to keep yourself from getting angry." Yang said, not understanding her brother's meaning.
"No, I almost exploded! I'm lucky Sapphire was there to protect me." Ruby said, trying to explain the situation to Yang.
"Are you being sarcastic?" Yang asked, prompting Sapphire to slam his hand into his face.
"YOU!" Weiss screamed, scaring Ruby into jumping into Yang's arms.
Sapphire had enough of this. "Listen lady, what happened wasn't Ruby's fault. It was yours." the boy said as his eyes glowed blue. "Maybe if you actually KNEW how to use your own product, we wouldn't be in this mess!"
Ruby, Weiss, and Yang were all silent after Sapphire's outburst. He quickly composed himself after Weiss left. "Thanks." Ruby said.
"No problem."
Ballroom (Night)
Russo set up his sleeping bag next to a window so he could see the stars. "I thought I'd meet up with him today. Guess he's late."
"Or maybe you just didn't see me again." a white-haired boy said, prompting the blonde to turn around. The newcomer wore a black and green tie-dye shirt and gray pants. "It's good to see you."
"Glad to finally cross paths before the big initiation." Russo said, leaning back against a wall with a grin. "Sorry about my brother, he has trouble with people like Weiss. Don't worry, I'll set him straight."
"I wouldn't worry." the white-haired boy said, raising a hand. "My sister has a bit of trouble with new people too. I think Beacon will be good for her."
"If Sapphire doesn't end up freezing her solid." Dominic said with a grimace.
"Yeah, that wouldn't be ideal." the white-haired boy, sharing his friend's expression.
