Chapter 1:A party's journey
A white-haired boy walked through a castle's chambers, opening a giant door many times his size. Had skin been any paler he would have mistaken for a ghost and his blood-red irises would not have helped. This was an adventurer of great power and renown, known throughout the kingdom and today he had been summoned by the ruler.
"We have been awaiting your arrival, great adventurer."A'tch' resounded throughout the throne room. His hate for formality and his famously horrible personality were on full display, Even though he noticed the presence of a king and another level 5 adventurer already in conversation with the king —Railgun, named after the lightning earth magic she made and named.
"Stop with the bullshit and let's get on with it"."Very well then, lord accelerator." The attendant answered, already accustomed to his manners or rather lack of.
The level 5s were brought together, though they remained with a distance between them. After all, even if they could tolerate each other they were by no means friends.
"The demon king has kidnapped the one known as the keeper of knowledge. Furthermore, he was allied with the dragon king. We would like you two to form a party, retrieve her, and thin out his power."The king's tone was simple, like asking a favor from an acquaintance. He was to the point as he knew their personalities-at least enough so that he knew pleasantries would be useless.
It was obvious why they were doing this. The keeper of the grimoires was a princess on top of already being a powerful asset. Anyone who saved her might get access to the library and would be guaranteed political support. For a mission this important they would be rewarded greatly.
"Alright. I'll my party on board."." I as well".
"Ah, you misunderstand we want you two to create a party together"
"I'd rather drop dead."feelings mutual railgun."That order was shut down instantly. Surprisingly the third strongest level 5 was the first to answer.
Accelerator continued"If you wanna save some prissy princess in a castle call the hero." as he moved to leave the chambers.
"We can't contact one can. All the level 5's are being mobilized instead. You are our last defense. Rumors have it he was killed, his last location was on the border of our enemies after all."
That caught his attention. The king was arrogant in the eyes of a normal person. The only reason he didn't ask for courtesy from the level 5s was because who would ask an internationally protected weapon of mass destruction to respect them? To admit he would lose without them without hesitation left the strongest adventurer shocked-well as shocked as someone like him could be. But the thing that caught his attention was the disappearance of the hero. It was an open secret that the one protecting all the kingdoms was the hero-made adventurer and the level 5 adventurers were the backup plan for his death but that hero was too stubborn to die. The other one had probably already accepted the request.
"Alright let's make that bastard hero do his job properly."This was already tacitly approved after all. Rude he might be but a liar he wasn' would work together to make the hero work again. What could the strongest ever want to hide after all?
Interlude: The life of a certain level 0 demon lord
'Please leave. Please leave. Please leave. Please leave.'
That was what the demon king thought as he saw the tiny princess inhale the food, alongside which he could see his treasury being inhaled at the same rate. He had finally managed to get a few weeks off from being a hero alongside a demon king. It would be his first vacation in five years. He planned meticulously and made his hero persona appear to be temporarily killed even losing the chance to gain ingredients from his favorite market in the human realm.
But all of it shoved down the drain the second this girl showed up. His subordinates couldn't handle this girl and now he had to spend his entire month either at the castle or bringing her alongside him. And based on what he had seen she would destroy his funds either way.
The innocent smile on her face was a disguise for the gluttonous devil that lay beneath. He gathered up the courage or perhaps it was anger to finally ask her"Please leave"."Can I get seconds"."Don't just ignore me and go along in your little world."
"I'm not leaving, They didn't let me go outside and explore or eat as much as I wanted to back home. Something about my image as a seal or something."
...In that sad sentence, a point was made clear. She would not leave, was too important to be ripped from the humans' hands, and was going to be a headache for him on vacation. Such misfortune.
