Disclaimer: I do not own The Mr. Men Show or its characters, but I do own several characters in this story and the idea for this story.
Mr. Nosy stared at the human, mind whirling with so many questions. Who was Mike exactly? Was he the person Jerry mentioned connecting the toy to him? If he created the personalities, it must be him!
Excitement shot through him, but before he could ask any questions, Mike turned and walked away. He ran to catch up to him, slowing down and walking beside him.
Mr. Nosy had more questions than he could ever ask in his lifetime, but there was one question that stuck out most in his head.
"So why is Tyler after Scarlet?" the light green Mr. Man asked, but before Mike could answer, he thought of more questions he was dying to know. "And why does Tyler want to destroy our town? And how were you able to put Ronn and the others in Scarlet's mind?"
There were more questions he wanted to ask, but before he could get another word out, the voice of his best friend made him look over his shoulder. "Maybe you shouldn't ask him so many questions, Nose," the small man told him.
Mr. Nosy suddenly felt guilty for bugging Mike. He turned back to the human and murmured an apology.
"That's alright." Mike smiled at him. "All will be revealed when the time is right."
Frustration prickled Mr. Nosy's head, but he tried not to show it when he nodded to what Mike said. He didn't say anything else as he stopped and waited for Mr. Small so he could walk beside him; the small man glanced at his friend as if he felt sorry for Mr. Nosy, but before he had a chance to get a word out, an annoyed voice spoke behind them.
"Where are we going?" Ronn asked, and Mr. Nosy turned to see him crossing his arms and glaring at the others.
Mike stopped walking and turned around, looking at the boy personality behind the two Mr. Men. "Is there a reason you are out?" he asked in a voice that suggested he had to deal with Ronn's sharp tongue all the time and he was tired of it.
"I'm here to protect Scarlet, remember?" Ronn shot back. He paused, hatred in his eyes. "Unlike you."
Gently pushing the Mr. Men aside, Mike walked over to Ronn. "Why are you acting like this?" he asked. "You know I want to protect Scarlet just as much as the rest of you."
For several long moments Mr. Nosy just stared at them, wanting to hear Ronn's response, but he felt something grab onto his arm and start pulling him away. He looked down to see Mr. Small held his hand as he dragged his best friend away from the humans.
"What are you doing?" Mr. Nosy asked, disappointed that his friend pulled him away when he was getting into the conversation. He looked up to see Mike shaking his head as if Ronn had just said something that disappointed him, but Mr. Nosy had been too distracted by his friend to have heard Ronn's reply.
Letting go of his friend, Mr. Small looked up at him, shifting his feet. "For once I think we should stay out of other people's business. Maybe we should just let Mike and the others help Scarlet. They seem to know what to do," he added in a soft voice as he lowered his eyes.
Mr. Nosy just stared at his buddy, not believing what he just said. It seemed like Mr. Small was willing to go up against Tyler until Mike showed up. Why is he backing down now? Mr. Nosy wondered. "But don't you want to save Scarlet?" he asked Mr. Small with wide eyes.
"Of course I do," the small Mr. Man replied to his friend quickly. "But we never had to deal with something like this," he went on after a moment of silence. "What if we mess up and all our friends get hurt?" There was deep concern on his face as he stared up at Mr. Nosy.
He's right, Mr. Nosy thought. I don't want anything bad to happen to anyone. He opened his mouth to agree, but before he could, a voice yelled loudly," We needed your help and you abandoned us!"
Mr. Nosy turned to see Ronn still glaring at Mike, who looked surprised and uncomfortable. He looked like he was about to say something, but Ronn quickly said," I don't want to hear your excuses! You always say you want to protect Scarlet and the rest of us, but right when we needed you the most, you vanished!" His voice caught in his throat and he looked away.
Mike hesitated, seeming unsure how to reply. Then he sighed and hung his head. "You're right," he said quietly, and Ronn snapped around to stare at the human with shocked eyes. Mike shifted standing positions, sliding the shoulder bag to his other side. He shook his head. "I let you and Scarlet and the others down, and I'm sorry. I should have been here when Tyler attacked, and I wasn't."
Ronn was frozen in place, and Mr. Nosy wondered what he was thinking. What will he say? Will he forgive him? Please forgive him! The light green Mr. Man had no idea what happened, but Mike looked genuinely sorry, and if he was Ronn, he'd forgive him.
But Ronn was taking a very long time to say anything. Finally, he wiped his face clean of the tears that had fallen out of his eyes and replaced his sadness with anger. "I can't forgive you until Scarlet is safe," he growled. "She's only in danger because you failed to protect her. I failed to protect her," he added, having to choke those words out.
Mike took a step toward him, but Ronn pulled back and went around him. Mike turned and watched him go. Then he turned to the Mr. Men and said," You can't leave us now. We need your help."
Mr. Small looked unconvinced. "Why?" he asked. "You know what is happening and how to deal with it. We can go into hiding like everyone else and–"
"And let someone else save your town?" Mike finished, shaking his head. "I thought you were braver than that. I thought you would do anything to protect your friends."
Mr. Nosy and Mr. Small exchanged a look. "Nobody has ever threatened to destroy our town before," Mr. Small pointed out, and Mr. Nosy murmured an agreement. "Nobody has ever threatened any of us before like this," added the small man. They shared a terrified look.
"Look, I understand your fear," Mike told them calmly, and Mr. Nosy saw the sympathy in his eyes. "It's scary to think any day could be your last, but that's just how life is. You can't sit around and let fear stop you from saving yourselves or your friends. Trust me; I know you can do this. Just believe in yourselves."
For a long moment, neither Mr. Men spoke. They glanced at each other, and Mr. Nosy saw the determination shining in Mr. Small's eyes. He gave a nod to Mr. Nosy, who returned the gesture, and they both turned back to Mike.
"We'll do anything to protect our friends and beloved town," Mr. Small told him, and Mr. Nosy agreed, but he silently hoped that losing their lives or getting seriously hurt wouldn't happen.
Mike smiled. "Great," the brown-haired human said as he began to follow Ronn. He caught up to him and made him stop.
Ronn glared at him.
"I'm going to fix this, Ronn," he promised.
As the Mr. Men came up, Mr. Nosy saw Ronn gave the older human a disbelieving look, but he could have sworn he saw a tiny bit of hope in his eyes.
"But first, I need to check on Scarlet," Mike went on. "Can I speak with her?"
Ronn nodded, and Mike stepped closer, waving his hand in front of his face. To Mr. Nosy's complete shock, it started glowing. The red-haired human's eyes rolled to the back of his head as the body started falling backwards. Mike caught them before they hit the ground. Then the human laid in Mike's arms with a blank look on their face.
Mike stared down at them. "That's odd," he muttered as he waved his hand over their face again, but still nothing happened.
"What's wrong?" Mr. Nosy leaned closer to look at the human in Mike's arms. He was aware of his best friend looking worried beside him.
Mike didn't answer at first. He just laid his glowing hand on the human's forehead. Then he gasped," Scarlet's not in there!"
