Chapter 33
Training Unending
Yamakhroz, Training Academy...
Weapons training...
Now into their next class, despite being slightly sore, Traysek, Record, Erik, and Yuriana were now attending a class on weapons training as well as ashes of war use, paying attention to the instructor in front of them with the rest of their classmates...
"Greetings, I'm the instructor for today, you may call me Bernahl." the instructor said, wearing silver armor and wielding a long Zweihandler, "For now, you'll be using these Longswords. The Ashe Of War in them is Stamp, the upward-cut version. You'd better keep a good focus if you want to succeed. As for the type of enhancement, it's the heavy kind since none of you is a Tarnished who can spend runes in Faith or Arcane."
The Redguard raised an eyebrow, glancing at the swords, 'So these are the longswords with the ashes...seems easy enough, especially if Lucien was able to use two of them...'
"One last thing." Bernahl called, "If you don't meet the requirements of the weapon, put the weapon down and get out."
The class fell silent upon hearing that, the four adventurers glancing at each other before the Dragonborn gave a nod...
Some of the trainees began to test themselves, with some succeeding, while others having yet to do it.
Traysek was the first to grab the longsword, followed up by Recorder, Yuri, and then finally, Erik was the last to retrieve his, heading back to the center of the room.
Once they had their swords, they grouped up together, to figure out how to use the current weapons, Recorder frowning at hers...
"So...these are like the glintstone weapons Luci had, didn't he use magic to activate his?" she asked, inspecting it.
Yuriana nodded, "Yeah, but something tells me, the focus for these are more simple than what he used..."
"Kinda wishing he was here now, he was able to do it because he focused on magic, Recorder, Inigo and I don't use it," Erik pointed.
The Dragonborn inspected his greatsword, "Hold on Erik, I don't think it was just magic focus there, he might've been focused on the weapon itself...keep in mind, these are the abilities within these weapons, Hell, Volt used one on me, a blood slash and he wasn't a magic user, hurt like hell too...but if he's able to, and with ease, we should be able to do it too..." He said, turning to them, "And there's the fact the instructor mentioned that these didn't have magic in them, that makes this even easier, focusing on magic is even harder..." a smile forming, "In that case, let me try something..." stepping away from them and getting some space.
He took a stance with the greatsword, and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, and focusing on the weapon he held, a warm feeling rushing over his hands, as a mental image of himself performing the ash, was coming to him in sudden bursts, 'So that's how you do that technique...interesting...' opening his eyes, and performed the ash of war, taking a stomp with a strange aura going over him and taking an powerful upward swing, eyes going wide, "Wow...so that's how it works..." smiling, with hyper armor over him,. turning to the others, heading back to them, "I got it down, Lucien wasn't wrong, it takes a bit of focus, but it can be used, even you two, could do it," to Erik and Recorder.
Yuriana frowned, "Really now? That easy...? Let me try," stepping away next, and focused on the weapon...once her hands warmed up, she saw a flash of herself doing it, before mimicking the action, being the next perform the ash of war, giving a stomp and gaining hyper armor before giving a powerful swing, surprised, "Yeah...no kidding it was...by the gods..." glancing at the aura on herself.
Erik and Recorder glanced at each other before the former gave a nod...
"If they can get it down, let's see if I could..." The Nord said, getting some distance...Once a good distance, he took a deep breath and got into his two-handed stance, feeling the same rush over his hands, before getting a similar flash of himself, nodding as he copied the movement, taking a stomp and gaining hyper armor, before swinging the blade upwards, grinning, "By the gods...they're not wrong, this doesn't require any magic...I could get used to this,"
Being the last, Recorder sighed, nodding, 'If even Erik could use this then...' gripping the longsword with both hands, focusing on it, frowning at the warm breeze over hands, getting a mental image of herself taking a large stomp and swinging upward, Before nodding and copying what she saw, gaining hyper armor once she stomped and did an upward slash, getting excited, "I...I did it? I did it! I almost doubted myself there, but I can see how they work now," with a satisfied grin.
After a while, every trainee was able to do it.
"Good, it seems that every one of you managed to do it." he then added, "Well, it's a Strength-based Ash Of War, unlike something else... but it still depends on the weapon. We'll take a short break before going over some spars."
The Redguard sighed, resting the sword on his shoulder as he and the others took their break at one of the corners, hanging out...
"Wonder how these sparring matches are going to go? we might face each other," Erik said, getting nods.
"True, but that is a way to see if this ability is worth it in battle or not, to be honest, I felt a bit tired after that, anyone else?" Yuri added.
Traysek nodded, "A bit yeah, takes a bit of stamina to use them, but not too hard, this should be good,"
Recorder looked around, "There's plenty of people in here, no telling whose getting pitted up with who..."
The other trainees were discussing plenty of topics until one said something.
"Heard that Dargo might get expulsed from the Kletzkrieg." a Dark Elf said.
"The others are discussing his case." another Dark Elf answered, "Things aren't looking good for him."
The Red Dragons picked that up, hearing them go on about it, furrowing their brows, with the exception of Recorder...
"My god...he wasn't kidding about being punished..." She whispered in a worried tone.
Traysek slowly nodded, "He did say this was a possibility...guess they take that seriously here..."
"Indeed, but it may be temporary, he was one of their better soldiers, no reason to get rid of that, we wouldn't," Yuriana added in.
Erik glanced around, "Well, if you start Recruiting her and he's not back, maybe you could let him in..."
"Assuming that I'll start a chapter of the Red Dragons here, and that's big MAYBE on my part..." The Dragonborn pointed.
"Alright, you louts!" Bernahl called everyone, "Time for the spars, you'd better not disappoint." he then walked to an arena, "If someone wants to begin, he can step forward and needs to choose his opponent."
Traysek glanced around, seeing who would go up first, before sighing, being the first to the stage, he then looked around and pointed, "How about you, Yuri? you're not as fragile as the other two,"
She looked surprised but nodded, "Alright then, don't be surprised if I hurt you, Dovahkiin..." smirking and going up there next.
"Put the opponent down, and you win. Push the opponent out of the ring, and you win. No magic allowed." Bernahl listed, "Understood?"
Traysek nodded along with Yuri, giving her a bow and taking his stance with the blade in both hands, narrowing his eyes but grinning.
She did the same, both of them now ready for the match, waiting for the instructor...
"Begin..." he said as he stomped the ground.
The Redguard beckoned her by pointing his sword, "Ladies first, Yuri..." with a smirk.
"Such a gentleman...such a-argh!" cutting herself off mid-way, closing the distance with a powerful swing of her longsword, clashing with his, causing a loud ring through the class.
Traysek chuckled, "I'm Not 'that' much of one!" slamming the pommel into her ribs making her back away, going for an overhead slash, making her stagger with the impact, before doing the ash of war, but not the slash.
Some trainees began to talk among themselves, discussing various topics. Meanwhile, Bernahl kept watching the fight.
The Redguard went for a lunging blow, which got parried, blocking a heavy swing from her, staggering back slightly from the impact, Hardening his stance to her oncoming rush, locking blades..." I knew I made the right choice..." breaking the clash with a shove, going for a wide swing, getting it blocked by his opponent, who parried it and countered with a hard swing of her own, catching him in the arm, making him skitter back, as she closed the distance...
He took a deep breath and performed the ash of war, reducing the damage taken from her hit, and retaliated with an upward swing, sending her flying.
Record whistled, "Well, there's no doubt there...it's definitely useful..."
"Don't fret, you and I are next..." Erik assured, "And I'm sure you want to pay me back for all the teasing..."
She turned to him, A wicked smile growing, "You know...I was about to let it go...but now, sure...I'd like that..."
As Yuriana landed outside of the arena, the instructor sighed, "Well, we do have a victor." he then turned to the others, "Who wants to go next."
Traysek sighed and shouldered the blade, walking over to her, offering her a hand, "You did pretty well, those blows rang my arms a bit,"
She had an annoyed scowl, but took his hand, sighing and standing up, "Not bad yourself, you picked a good time to use that, guess we were wrong questioning it, ow..." following him out of the ring.
Recorder was the next up, pointing her blade at Erik, "Erik, get up here...time for some payback..."
The Nord snorted with a smirk, "Okay, Record suuuure, but this is a direct match... can't use stealth..." he chuckled, stepping up to the ring next, taking a two-handed stance.
Bernahl sighed before repeating, "Put the opponent down, and you win. Push the opponent out of the ring, and you win. No magic allowed. If understood then begin."
Both combatants bowed, before getting in their fighting stances, Recorder nearly stumbling, holding her longsword...
'Talk about heavy, they weren't kidding...!' She mused, being the first to attack, giving a swing to his left.
Erik easily blocked it, and swung back, catching her on the other side, nearly knocking her to the floor, as she regained her balance, "Too easy..."
Bernahl stayed silent, observing more the movements of Recorder.
She gritted her teeth and weaved from the next downward slash, countering him by slamming the flat end of the blade into him, making him back up, before she circled around him, catching him with hard blows to the unguarded sections on Erik, making it hard for him to regain his defense.
The Nord taking the last blow from her sword, blocked the next, before activating the ash of war and hardening his defense, going for an upward slash, missing the attack, "What?!" he exclaimed, finding her at his left, the hyper armor already on her.
Recorder gave a yell, retaliating with the same upward slice Erik attempted, scoring a blow that sent him flying...
When Eric hit the ground, outside of the arena, Bernalh lifted his sword before striking the ground again.
"The victor is the young lady," he said.
Traysek and Yuri applauded with the class, the former whistling...
"Not bad Record, she countered him with his own attack," He complimented while clapping.
"He tends to forget, that just because she relies on stealth, doesn't mean she can't hit as hard as the rest of us," The wench chuckled, watching her head to him.
Record walked up to a downed Erik with a smirk, "Now...what was that about me needing stealth, big boy?" offering him a helping hand.
He scoffed, clearly upset about losing before sighing in defeat, taking her hand, "I...may have made some mistakes there," standing up, "I forgot you hit harder than a giant on skooma...good fight though, ouch..." he winced with a small smile, letting her hand go as they both made it back to the class.
"You guys fought well, Erik, you would've had that if you stunned her first," The Redguard pointed.
The Nord sighed, "I thought about doing that, but at that point, I just took the blow like you did and tried to end it there,"
"She's faster than me and you, Erik, you have to stun opponents like her, if this had been a real fight, you would've lost your head, simple as that," Yuriana sighed.
Recorder nodded, "And I do tend to aim there, just didn't because this was sparring, not an actual deathmatch..."
"Next!" Bernahl yelled as two Dark Elves got into the arena.
outdoor classroom
Class: Scout/environmental class...
Inigo was now at an outside area with the next class, mainly harpies, but there were other participants there as well in scouting gear, listening to the instructor of this lesson...
"Listen here. For the newcomers, call me Hunter." the instructor, a white-haired young woman in blue-scaled armor with white fur and gold scales on some parts, "First, I want to see how well most of you have gotten and how good the new ones are; so, you'd be analyzing this footprint and write down what you found."
On the ground, there was a footprint with strange blue sprinkles around it.
Inigo walked up to it and knelt down, taking a sniff and cringing, writing it down, 'Very strong and strange magic smell, but it doesn't smell like it's been conjured, so it's a natural one...wonder what kind of beast this is,' he mused while jotting everything down.
A Lycan knelt down before sniffing, but also licking the foot-print before writing on his paper. Next, was a Harpy who generated a bit of wind around it. And then, there was a Dark Elf who only licked it.
Inigo blinked twice at what he just witnessed, taking a deep breath, 'O-okay...I mean, I guess if licking it is a way to tell, then fine...ugh...I just wouldn't do it...' steeling himself for the next bit.
After a while, Hunter gathered all the papers and looked at them. She took a deep breath before calling, "Kuru, Albeit, Garm." the Harpy, the Dark Elf, and the Lycan took a step forward, "I must say... those reports... are perfect. Not only did you write down the species, the height, the weight, where it came from, where it could be heading, the wound that it had... I couldn't find anything to say against it. For some, it was around the average and the rest above the average."
Inigo nodded in approval, 'They got all that from those methods huh? Impressive...I'll have to ask how that works later,'
"For those who tried to play smart... this beast isn't a magical one, and it was a conjured spirit of a Saberton wounded to the left leg and coming from the north, not the west, heading to the east." Hunter pointed, "It was spread with a magical dust that plays on the scent. This is why a true scout relies on ALL his senses, not just one or two."
The blue khajiit slightly frowned, 'I see, no surprise...it's not like I've dealt with anything with that scent before...'
"Now! You'll all be scolded for underestimating this assignment with the 100 rules!" the instructor yelled as a thundering aura was around her, "One! Use your eyes to see your surroundings! Two! Hear the environment! Three! Feel the air!..."
At that, the rest of the class's jaws dropped, some even audibly groaned as Inigo nervously chuckled...
'Welp...looks like we're in for a Looooong lesson, Oh boy...' he mentally groaned, as he sat through the 100 rules...
The Archive
Class: Curse defense/reversal
Lucien was now in a darkened classroom with a few other students, the candles around them in many different colors, as the instructor of this lesson rose up from his chair...
"Well, I welcome back the old students and bid a welcome to the new ones." the instructor was an old man wearing a white-furred robe that made him look like a moth, "Now, let's begin with a question; what are the rules that curses need to follow?"
Lucien thought back to every curse he'd experienced since he's been in this world, his mind going to that of the earth trial and to the recent one, that turned his own lightning against him, each curse involving an object...he threw his hand up, "Curses...normally require some kind of conduit, correct?" he answered, hoping it was somewhat right.
"That is a component, not a strict rule." the old man stated.
After raising her hand, the Salamander Lilliana said, "A curse needs a reason, a source, a traveling way, and a targeted point, whether it's human or just land or air. Curses can be affected by different types of conditions such as the mana used, the receptacle if there is one, and how much the gods provide protection to the person if one was targeted."
"Very good." the old man responded with a nod, "What you said is true... but you forgot to mention that the type of curse can also be affected by how the ritual was done. But still, it was a good answer." he then looked at the others, "The first thing that we'll learn today is to create a curse without any receptacle."
The imperial glanced at the salamander girl, 'I remember her, she was in my last class, guess she's well versed in magic here, they taught nothing like this back at the imperial college...' turning back to the class.
"Now, each one will choose something and then put a curse on it." the instructor said as he distributed papers to each one, "As long you follow the needs, it could be done."
Lucien received his paper and went off the instructions of the curse and how to place it...
After a while, the instructor went and began to appraise the results.
"Well," he took a deep breath after seeing everyone's object, "It would seem like you all succeeded in making one. Now, choose someone to exchange objects and try to dispel the curse."
The imperial had his cursed object with a circle going around it, 'Now all I need to do, is hand it to someone...' spotting the salamander from earlier looking for someone, "Excuse me? Mind if we exchange?" he asked.
The Salamander handed him a cursed dagger while waiting to get the object he cursed.
He handed her the cursed crystal, receiving the dagger, "Thank you~ and here...not too sure If I got it down, please let me know," nervously chuckling.
As soon as she touched it, her hand began to turn into stone, "Flawed, and in need of a reason to be activated." after three seconds, her hand was cured as the crystal glowed before the glow died.
Lucien sighed, "Geez, that easy huh? Maybe I'll have an easier time with this and-" getting cut off by a voice.
"Killer..."
"Murderer..."
"Heartless..."
"We demand justice..."
"Oh... never mind, that's what it is...okay...now to break this...somehow..." Lucien struggled out, hearing the voices get louder.
"Die..."
"Die..."
"You don't deserve to live..."
The imperial focused his magic on the dagger, doing his best to shut them out...
"Pathetic..."
"You think that you deserve what you have..."
"Look at the blood in your hands..."
Not too soon after, there was blood on his hands.
He looked at his hands to find blood dripping down them, taking deep breaths to compose himself, 'It's not real...it's not real Lucien...focus...before this drives you crazy...' focusing his magic on the circle now.
"Not worthy..."
"Die..."
"Repent for this blood..."
This time strange figures began to appear.
Lucien glanced up to find the apparitions there, a mix of bandits, black dogs, monsters, and Gnolls, shaking it out, focusing back on the blade, 'It's getting worse...I have to shut them out...'
"Die..."
"Repent..."
"Die..."
"Die..."
"DIE!"
"You need help?" Lilliana asked after noticing how Lucian was.
The imperial seemed out of breath, by the time he looked at her, "Actually...yes, how did you break that curse so easily...?"
"By tracing the traveling way and then disrupting the curse from the source." the Salamander answered.
Lucien frowned upon hearing that, "Tracing the traveling way?' I...could try that..." looking at the circle, before focusing his magic on it, tracing the circle with it, closing his eyes until he felt a strong magic presence in the blade, making him shiver, 'Found it...' He then concentrated on it, and after a few seconds, the blade glowed a white glow, as the voices and apparitions disappeared, opening his eyes to a purified dagger, "Oh...so that's how you do that...gods, that's going to take some time getting used to," he chuckled, in relief.
"Wow... not even beginners need the ritual circle since they use their own power. After all, strong magical power is all that one needs." the Salamander pointed.
The imperial sighed, putting the dagger down, "It's that easy? could've fooled me, the world I came from doesn't go that deep into a study about curses, not like this... it's usually in the form of one of the magic schools, very...simplistic," shaking his head, "But thank you for the advice, um...Lilliana right?"
"Well, if you need help, I can answer your questions," she replied.
He felt himself smile, "Sure, if there's anything else, definitely, thank you," turning around to face the instructor.
"Well, it would seem that everyone did well." the old man said, "If someone has a question, I'm open to hearing it."
Lucien raised his hand, "Do you have any books on this subject? I'd like to study more of it," he asked.
"Curses don't have books." the old man responded, "A curse needs to be trifled with to be studied, books and notes aren't the way. If you stay hidden, you can't claim a victory on the battlefield."
The imperial frowned, "Oh...very well then, just thought I'd ask..." putting his hand down.
"If you find a book that talks about curses, know that it's fake." the instructor added, "Whoever knows what curses are, would know that to study them, one needs to feel them, not read about them."
Lucien nodded with a grin, "Good to know, sir, I'll keep that noted," scribbling it down, as the rest of the class continued...
Meanwhile, on the road to the cave...
Reynold was walking down the long road, packed up with food in his backpack, as it would be a long way to go...he continued down a path, unbeknownst to the two shadows following him...once he reached the crossroads, he finally stopped and wiped the sweat off his brow...
'Not sure what road I'm supposed to take here...but one of these leads me to the cave...now which one to take?' he mused, as the figures approached him.
"You're the Musel kid, right." one of them said, revealing a Holy Knight with a strange mark on his armor.
He turned around to find two of them there, frowning at their strange marks, "I am, yes...what can I do for you two?" with a raised eyebrow.
"High Inquisitor Marpesia wants to talk with you... now." the other knight answered.
Rey went wide-eyed, "T-the high inquisitor? What...what does she want with me?" in a slightly shaken tone.
"We don't know." the first knight said, "However, she ordered us to bring you to her in that inn." he then pointed to the construction behind him.
Knowing how she is from reputation alone, it gave Rey a really bad feeling that she needed anything from him, putting a suspicious frown on his face, "O-kay...didn't know there was a tavern in these parts...very well, I'll... see what she wants, after that, I have to go back to my assignment,"
"Follow us." the second knight said as both began to head toward the inn.
The young knight took a deep sigh, and followed, 'No idea why Marpesia is asking for me, but I've got a bad feeling about this...I'll have to be ready for anything...and I do mean ANYTHING...' he mentally noted.
Once inside, he was taken to a table where the High Inquisitor was sitting, her helm put next to her on the table, and drinking tea.
"Master," the first knight said as they both knelt, "We brought him."
Rey got an overall look at the woman at the table, furrowing his brow, 'So...this is the inquisitor I've heard so much about... to see her without her helmet...it's something to behold but... it doesn't make me feel less uneasy...' clearing his throat, "So, you're the high inquisitor who sent for me? well, here I am, what do you request of me?" with a bow.
"First, take a seat," she stated after looking at him.
Rey raised an eyebrow, but took a seat as she asked, "Okay...now what?"
"Now... after looking at your records, and after some events that will be discussed later, I thought that you'd be interested in becoming an Inquisitor," she responded.
At that Reynold was surprised, not expecting it, "Inquisitor" my lady...? I...I don't know what to say...but for a rookie knight? why?"
"While some people who are traitors to the Goddess are testing you, I saw your true potential." she said, "You lack armor, weapons, knowledge, and training... things that were denied by one noble in Ken who doesn't want to have strong knights on the Goddess' side. Things that I'm willing to give... if you're ready to do one thing for me."
The young knight thought about it for a second, On one hand, it does seem like they have loyalties of their own, even down to lord Ruthven, however his obligation to Swain was still something to worry about, making this a hard decision, "This...is a big honor and to be trained by you of all people, even more so...I'm not rejecting this, but I would like time to...think about it, it's a very big position you're offering me and I want to be sure, all my options have been exhausted before making that choice, I'm sure you can understand,"
"It may be your chance to clean your family name after a... disturbing discovery." Marpesia said before adding, "Your brother is accused of heresy and treachery toward the Goddess. Well, like you said it needs time to be thought over. So, when you wish to join us, you'd have to hunt and kill a traitor who's feeding information to the Dark Queen."
Reynold nodded slowly, "Thank you for giving me the time and-" pausing upon the realization, "-Wait...my brother? Troy? What the hell did he do now?" he asked with a hard frown.
"All of the high nobility, the shields, and the Goddess Reborn herself, were witnessing him using a dark form of magic, one that we don't condone... Blood Magic..." Marpesia responded, "Right now, your family name is synonymous with betrayal."
The young knight sighed, "Blood magic you say? that's...not in our family...I probably know where he got it from though, I just didn't know he had it...okay, I'll have to question him on that later...alright, who would I have to take out?"
"An old knight who faked his death after deserting the Holy Army." the High Inquisitor said, "The dark knight Lorley. However, I don't know his new name, none of us do."
"Lorley? Yeah, it doesn't ring any bells, must've deserted when I enlisted, got a picture?" Rey asked, with a raised eyebrow.
"So you've met him." Marpesia chuckled before adding, "Good, that means that you can easily find him." she then added, "I have a unique skill called True Words. It allows me to see through any lie."
Rey went wide-eyed once again, "That's...an interesting ability, wish I had it myself, yeah, I remember the name now...but if he's that "Lorley" then...finding him is going to be harder than a needle in a haystack..." he sighed, "But that's when I come back for the deal, until then, I have my own assignment to complete... If it doesn't go well, and something's telling me it'll go sideways, I'll contact you for certain,"
"Well, good luck in whatever quest you're doing." the High Inquisitor replied.
Rey stood up and bowed, "Thank you for the opportunity, high inquisitor...I'll think about the offer, good day," with a smile and left the tavern.
Marpesia simply watched him, 'Now all I need is to wait...'
Once he was let out of the tavern, his mind was in a whirlpool of thoughts, wondering what the right decision would've been, On one hand, he could clear his family name of Troy's mistakes, but on the other, he'd be dragging an old soldier who didn't want to be bothered to a sadistic inquisitor...one thing was for sure, he'd have to make his decision and hopefully...it wouldn't be one he'd regret...
He pondered this as he made his way back to the cave, praying the meeting with the last sister would go well, before having to resort to...that deal...back at the crossroads, he took the path that didn't lead to another village, heading further north...
"Easy there boy." two Dark Elves were standing near a white stag that tried to get up.
"What do you think we should do?" the other one asked.
"To be honest... I don't know... as long as our queen has yet to get the kingdoms... it may become hard to protect the wildlife" the first one answered.
Upon coming to the cave, Rey spotted them and hid, watching the two elves care over the animals, making him frown deeply, 'Dark elves taking care of the wildlife..? unheard of, even more there were some left after the hunting parties...still, the fact that this area hasn't been touched by the alliance...it's...impressive...' feeling himself smile.
"I hope that the influence of the Earthmother increases." the second one sighed, "With the help of our friends who give us what we need to know, we might gain the advantage."
The first one nodded and said, "We'll reclaim the lands that were stolen and bring glory in the name of our ancestors."
The young knight had a look of slight shock on his face, 'So they ARE with the dark queen...I should've expected that, I'm warranted to stop them, but I don't think they're doing anything evil...no reason to attack them if they're just caring for the wildlife...'
"Let's take him somewhere to heal." the first one said as the second one drew some runes in the air, creating a portal.
"This should get us to one of our greenhouses." the second one said as they both helped the stag to move through the portal.
Reynold sighed, "Good, they're gone...didn't need the unnecessary trouble...now then, to enter the cave...hoping this goes better than the last two..." entering the cave...
After a while, he found a young Dark Elf boy studying a book, and next to him was a red-haired girl reading a book.
"Teacher." the Dark Elf called, "Why is it important to know every kind of magic if I only want to master one?"
The red-haired girl sighed and said, "If you want to master one, you'd need to know its origin and source. You can't jump through the steps. Besides, these books given by the Dark Elf queen are quite good."
The Dark Elf boy only pouted.
The young knight couldn't help but smile, 'He reminds me of me when I was younger...I was just as curious...although, now...' sighing at himself, walking in further...
"Well, you do want to get revenge for your parents." the girl sighed, "I mean, your adoptive parents..."
"It's the fault of those evil knights..." the boy mumbled, "I hate them all... they only ruin our lives..."
Rey felt his heart skip a beat, doing a quick check on what he was wearing, sighing in relief, 'For once, I'm so glad I'm not in my armor...but still...for a young kid to be saying this...' he finally stopped when he reached the center, "Um...excuse me? is this a bad time...?" he asked in a low tone.
"Who're you?! A bandit?!" the girl asked as she created two fireballs in her hands, while the boy took a short sword.
He held his hands up in surrender, "Easy...I'm no bandit, I'm a knight under lord swain...I've been tasked to find you, by your grandfather, Lord Ruthven..."
"Then where's your armor?" the girl asked, "The soldier under Lord Swain wears red armor and has further abilities."
Rey nodded with a sigh, "I'm not a part of the red spears, but... I'm trying to get there, to the best of my ability..." clearing his throat, "But...where are my manners," taking a bow, "I am Reynold Von Musel, and you guys are?" he asked.
"He looks familiar..." the boy said, "And not in a good way."
The girl sighed before saying, "It doesn't matter. Why are you here anyway? Only my family and the forces of the Dark Elf queen know this place."
The young knight rubbed the back of his neck, "Well, one of your sisters, Genevieve...directed me here, after her...not so friendly threat..." chuckling nervously, "In any case, you don't have to worry about me harming you...I don't ever intend to...especially since I want to be trained by your grandfather..."
"I doubt that he's worthy to be trained by master." the boy spat.
"Now, Klek, don't be so rude." she then turned to the knight, "Why should I give you my accord? you may be an enemy of our ally, Queen Olga. And it would be foolish to allow an enemy strength."
Rey sighed deeply, knowing this was coming..."I understand that... most of us and the other kingdoms have been locked in battle with her for years...but the truth is, I don't really know her...I've only heard things from my commanders...most of them anyway..." thinking about something, "In truth, I'm no fan of the corruption any more than you...and as much as I want to do something about those rotten elements...I don't have the skills to do it...and Lord Ruthven could change that...In fact, I know he would..."
"You think that you can change something that has been for many years simply by existing?" the girl asked, "You never took action, right? Always hoping to get something without earning it. But since you're a noble, I doubt that big sis Gene will say yes. Well, where's the harm? I accept, Now go away, before that I turn you to ash... boot licker."
He frowned, but nodded, "Very well, I'll take my leave, thank you, it was a pleasure," giving a quick bow, before turning and leaving the cave.
"Finally, I can have some free time to study magic even more." the girl smiled, "I'll be the first in many years to use Phoenix Magic!"
"Teacher, you're cool." the boy, Klek, began to clap his hands.
Once he got back outside, he took the path back to Feoh, "Well, I got that approval...although, it felt more like a dismissal...at this rate...one thinks I'm weak and after that duel...it's looking true...the other is disgusted by me for her own reasons...even if I had nothing to do with it... and the last one, even though I've got her approval, hates me...lovely...at this rate, I'd be lucky if he even looks at me...Maybe I should take Marpesia's offer...but then I'd be no different than the others...' frowning at himself, 'Yeah...like that matters...even If try to present myself without the armor, people for some reason can STILL tell I'm a holy knight...even a noble, despite me not mentioning it..." Taking a deep sigh, 'At this point...what am I even doing anymore...? From everyone outside of the alliance I've met, they think I can't change them...' thinking back at something, 'I know if had the right people, like the captain and his crew, we could do that overnight...the problem is, I don't know if they lived from the assault or not...' rubbing his chin, 'Maybe I should ask around, probably the commander knows, he seems to be well enough connected...I'm sure he knows what happened there or not,'
Footsteps were heard as a Human and a Minotaur were seen walking and laughing.
"I swear, it took them five people to change a candle." the man said.
"By the god Korak! I can hardly stop laughing!" the Minotaur laughed even harder, "To think that those knights are THAT stupid!"
Reynold frowned at their conversation, but kept it moving, 'They seem happy over that joke...I'd say something, but...I don't think I need another speech about my regime...'
Later that evening...
Yamakhroz- House of Wings...
In the living room, The Red Dragons were resting up after a long day of combat and magic lessons, although the latter in the case of Lucien...Record laid back on the couch with a sigh...
"I'm beaten...those lessons at that academy were rough but easy to understand," she said, rubbing her shoulder, "If you all decide to go out tonight, I don't think I'd be able to..."
Yuriana nodded with a chuckle, "I don't think anyone's going out after all that, and we're expected there tomorrow...apparently, they have different instructors that change out..."
Traysek took a pull from his blunt, exhaling, "Yeah, I think we're supposed to be learning a more...aggressive fighting style than what we learned today, We'll be attending... But more importantly, we finally know how to trigger the ashes of war now..." with a satisfied smile, "Now it just depends on the weapon, we might not be able to trigger a few...but those are a rare few, we shouldn't have any issues there..."
"That means, any weapons we find from the dogs that have them, we can use..." Erik said with a hand to his chin, "You still have that strange axe right? we could find out what it does,"
"I have it, yes, but, I'm testing that tomorrow, for now, I'll probably go to the tavern, I did say I'd buy the first round, and obligated to keep that word..." The Redguard added, turning to the imperial, "What about you Lucien? you weren't with us today, you were at the archive, did you learn anything?"
The imperial nodded with a grin, "It's a work in progress, but I'm learning how to disable curses, like the ones we were all under, that way it doesn't happen again and if does, we'll be able to get out of it..."
"Well done, that'll definitely come in handy when we need it, Do you mind showing me sometime?" Traysek asked.
"Absolutely, we'll all need to know how to do it, if we want to survive," Lucien smiled, "And...I may...have met someone...today..." nervously rubbing the back of his neck.
"Oh?" The Captain said with raised eyebrow and smirk, "Who you've got your eye on?"
Lucien nervously chuckled while everyone else raised eyebrows, "Well...I don't know if we're a thing...but she seemed nice...and willing to help with the curse lesson...Lilliana is her name...She's a Salamander," he explained.
Inigo grinned, "Well look at you, Mister "None of your business" and here I thought you were spoken for..."
Erik waved him down, "Hey now...he was already nervous mentioning her, don't start the teasing..."
Traysek chuckled at that, "That's ironic coming from you, sir..." turning to Lucien, "But, I'm glad you met someone out there...did you guys find a way to stay in contact? or is she a classroom sweetie only~?"
"Ahahaha...you're not funny, you know that?" Lucien deadpanned, "But to answer that question, no we haven't, but that doesn't mean it won't happen..."
"My man~" The Redguard nodded, turning to Inigo, "And what about you Ini? learn something?"
"Plenty my friends..." Inigo began with, "For one, I upped my archery skills and I also learned the 100 rules of scouting...I can still hear them now...' shivering...
Traysek grinned at that, "Well then, may that knowledge serve you well, I'd say we had a good day then," turning to everyone, "Feel free to do what you want, within reason of course... I'm heading to Gem Ah'd, anyone coming?"
Yuri nodded, "Sure, I've never been, why not?" with a smile, standing up.
"Anyone else?" The Redguard asked once again.
Erik sighed, "I think I'll go by the medics, and check on how Zephyr's doing...after the day we had, I've put this off long enough,"
"Good luck Erik, but if I were you...I'd bring something and that pie isn't going to cut it, I'm sure it's gone bad now...just pick up some flowers and another pie and I think you're all set," The Redguard assured, "If they don't have that flavor, go with chocolate... trust me, women LOVE chocolate..."
"Just don't overdo it...as a woman, we really hate that...we find it super creepy, less is more," Yuri Chimed in.
The Nord gulped, but nodded, "Noted...thank you for the support guys..."
Recorder sighed, standing up, "I guess I'll check on Dargo, see how he's doing, haven't seen him since the village contract...wondering if he's okay..."
"I'll hang out here, I have much to still study on, so I can hold the fort down..." The imperial added.
Inigo chuckled, "Welp, might as well head to my favorite place..."
Traysek groaned, "The maid cafe, right? by the nine...I understand you like the women there, just don't get arrested, I'm NOT bailing you out..."
"Hehehehe~ you don't have to worry my friends, I'm a gentleman first..." The khajiit mock bowed, "I'll...be back much later tonight though..." eyes went dark for a second until the smile came back.
That didn't go unnoticed by the Redguard, but he shook it off, "Very well, everyone... enjoy your night~" standing up as the others did.
At Gem Ahd...
At the bar counter, Traysek, Yuriana, and Endra were sitting there with their tankards full, as Grace moved on to her next patron, the first round already paid for...
"So that's what happened after we left your house," The Redguard finished, setting his tankard down.
"Shibukawa and Bernahl... It's a miracle that you can still walk." Endra joked, "Especially with Shibukawa."
Yuri chuckled, "Well if you were with us in class, you would've witnessed him army crawling out of it once the lesson was over..."
"By the gods, Woman, don't tell him that..." The Redguard groaned, "But yeah, I can understand why...and we're going back tomorrow...Still, it doesn't beat the fact that we resolved things with the harpies, I have you and your wife to think for that, she looked out for a Dovah that's for sure,"
"I told you, didn't I? If you need help you can ask me." Endra said, "We, Dark Elves, are known to be loyal."
"But becoming an enemy of one means being an enemy of all," Grace added.
Traysek's eyes went wide, "Damn...it's like that with you guys? shit, I'm lucky I haven't been stabbed yet...Because there's two of you guys, who don't like me...Mayek and Maki, who I have yet to meet and may or may not be purposely avoiding,"
"So you are avoiding her..." Yuriana smirked, folding her arms.
"Well, yeah...I'd rather not start shit if I can help it..." The Redguard defended with.
"For you, the General stood up and said that you knew nothing of this world. So, we can't say that you're responsible at 100%" Endra pointed, "Your ignorance is the real culprit, not you."
Grace nodded, "And with someone like the General speaking for you, you're out of harm's way."
"But again, Maki isn't the type to give up easily." Endra sighed, "Especially because of her ability."
The Redguard nodded, "I mean, I knew that already, you've mentioned that and so did he..." raising an eyebrow, "But what ability...?"
"The more she's angry, the more dangerous she becomes," Endra replied
Yuriana nodded inquisitively, "I see...Her power sounds a lot like my berserk state or your divine form, Captain, that's...interesting..."
"Huh, so rage fuels that machine, well, dealing with someone that feeds on that kind of power isn't too difficult...at least for us, but now I know what to expect at least," Traysek said, taking another swig.
"I'm sure that you'll do fine." Endra assured, "She may be the powerhouse of the city, but you won't have that much trouble if you decide to face her."
Traysek chuckled, "Good to know, for us two, sure, but as for the rest of the crew, they might have to struggle..."
"Eh...I still wouldn't worry too much, they can handle themselves and know to get away in case they can't..." Yuri assured, waving it off, "Just hoping they're doing fine..."
Meanwhile at the Earthmother's temple...
At the temple entrance, Inigo stood at the doors, taking a deep sigh, 'Here's hoping they're open...' knocking on the door.
The door was opened by a Dark Elf Priestess wearing a semi-transparent robe over white underwear.
"Yes?" she called as she looked in his direction with white eyes, "How can the Earthmother help you?"
Inigo bowed his head, "Greetings sister, I'm here to...Repent for a few things, may I come in?"
She simply smiled as she gave him the way.
Once he was in, he was treated to an earthly-themed temple, being led to the main hall, he gave the priestess a nod, heading to the open flooring.
"Thank you, I promise not to be too long..." He assured.
"Don't worry, the Earthmother's temple is always open," she said with a smile.
He watched her leave, smiling, 'She was nice, blind too from the looks of it, but I am not one to judge...' turning back around to face the Altar, kneeling before it, his thoughts in blender, from every battle he's been in, on either side of the fence, but the one that stuck to him the most was the hunter's contract...he had done well enough suppressing from the others, closing his eyes with a bowed head...
Molten Gift District
Dargo was looking at the fruits and vegetables set in front of the merchant.
Recorder was walking around in the same market district, wondering if she should've asked for directions to his house, until she spotted him at the fruit section, smiling and approaching, 'There he is...' clearing her throat, "Hey there, Dargo, you look well~" she greeted.
Dargo turned his head and said, "Hey there... how're you doing?"
"I'm doing alright, wondering how you're doing...haven't seen since our last job together, spent most of today training," She chuckled, noticing the fruits, "You're out buying food?"
Dargo nodded and said, "We were running low on vegetables and fruits. I was thinking to see if there's any fresh fish to cook something special to my siblings." he then added, "Want to join us for dinner?"
Record thought about it, nodding, "Sure, I don't think anyone's cooking tonight anyway, I could have dinner and I still want to meet your sibs," with a smile, "So what did you plan on making?"
"Depends on what I find in the market." Dargo replied, "But it's going to be something good for their health. They need good food to grow strong."
"All that and no dessert?" she joked, smirking, "But in all seriousness, you're right, they do need healthy food, maybe I can help pick out a few things,"
Dargo nodded and said, "I'll be counting on you."
"Alright! I'll look for the fish, you can focus on the veggies and fruits," She said in a cheerful tone, going for the fish aisle.
"Dargo." a canine Kobold appeared from behind the counter, "Can you move a bit away? You're cooking everything."
After noticing that the temperature around him increased he simply apologized, paid for the damaged goods, and bought a couple of things from the Kobold merchant.
At the healer's temple...
Erik was dressed in new business attire, holding a bouquet of flowers and chocolates, prior to the advice from earlier...he looked at the temple and took a deep breath, 'You can do this Erik, I'm sure they'll let you in this time...' before knocking on the doors.
The door opened and Eric was greeted by a Dryad, "Yes?"
"Oh! uh, hello there, I'm here to see Zephyr, is she available?" He asked, surprised.
"She's well." the Dryad stated, "In fact, she left a few hours ago."
Erik's eyes went wide, "W-what? Really? you guys discharged her? That's great news!" smiling in relief, "But now...I...kinda feel silly for showing up here like this, would you know where she lives?"
"Not far." the Dryad answered, "You need to go to the Night Fire District by simply going up a few stairs north of here."
"Okay...I've never been there, but I'll figure it out, thank you," He smiled, before heading in that direction...
At the Night Fire District...
Erik had finally arrived at the district he was supposed to be after passing by a couple, now, he just had to find her house, which isn't proving simple...
'Well, that healer said she was in this district, but where?' he frowned, looking around, 'I can't go to everyone's door, maybe I'll find someone out here that knows...'
In front of a shop, there was a Kitsune woman who was sweeping the ground.
The Nord spotted her, and nodded, 'She might know, let's see...' approaching her, "Excuse me? I'm looking for Zephyr, do you know where her house is?" he asked.
"She isn't in her house, but at the graveyard at the moment." the Kitsune answered before pointing to an opening to an open area, "That's where the graveyard is."
Erik glanced over to where she pointed, "Okay that works, thank you," with a smile, before making his way there.
When he got outside, the wind began to pass by him as there was a large graveyard not too far away. Zephyr was kneeling in front of one of them, with her right hand on her heart.
'Odd...just a second ago, I was in the mountain...this place is something else...' He mentally noted, before finding her there, 'And there she is...although, should I disturb her? especially with...these?' looking at the flowers and chocolates, 'It's now or never Erik...just don't present them until you can...' slowly approaching her, hiding both gifts behind his back, "H-hey, Zephyr?" he called out in soft tone, a few clicks away.
Zephyz turned her head and looked at him, "Oh, hey, how're you doing?"
"I'm alright, it's you I'm checking on, haven't seen you since they transferred you back here..." He nervously pointed, "I'm glad you're back to full health, you had me worried there..."
"It's not the first time that I had to go through that." Zephyr pointed out, "My training to master my element got me in the worst situations."
Erik slowly nodded, "I see, sounds like mastering the wind itself is harsh...oof..." before noticing the grave he's at, "So...if you don't mind me asking, whose grave are you visiting...?"
"My parents." Zephyr answered, "They were killed and I was taken as a slave when I was little. I did have a younger sister... but I don't know her fate. All I'm hoping for... is that she's safe..."
He felt a ping in his heart from that, "Oh...By the gods, I'm so sorry for your losses...I really am, I knew you had parents, but it seems I...won't be able to meet them now...as for your sister, I'm sure we'll find her out there," Not noticing his hands were to the sides, "If...this is a bad time, I can find you later,"
"What do you need?" she asked, "Need help with something?"
Erik shook his head, "No, nothing like that, and besides I don't think we're taking contracts for a while unless something good comes up...as I said, I came to see how you were doing, and..." glancing at what he held, "Since I didn't think you'd be out so soon, I...picked up a few things..." rubbing the back of his neck.
"You're feeling bad for me?" she asked.
"Not...in a pitying way, I just thought to get you something nice and I...didn't want to overdo it, but...now it seems I have," The Nord sighed.
"W-Well, thank you," she said as she blushed a little.
He blushed a slight shade of pink, "Y-you're welcome...really," with a smile, the blush still evident while handing them to her...they stared for a minute, the dark elf's face seemingly getting redder as he is, until he cleared his throat, trying to break the tension, "I...uh should probably get going, I'm really glad I got to see you okay for myself, but now, "Glancing over his shoulder at the graves "I do like feel I'm disturbing you from praying...as someone who lost his mother, I understand that feeling...I'll see you soon, Zephyr" with a genuine smile this time.
Zephyr simply smiled as she nodded.
He turned and walked back the way he came, feeling satisfied, 'That...wasn't so bad...although things got tense there, I didn't hate it...not at all,'
Near Ansur
Owl sat at the same table with something hiding in a bag.
'He's late...' Owl looked around, 'This needs to be done before my absence is noticed!'
There was a shadow approaching from the nearby trees, turning out to be Volt, "Well, you work fast..." glancing at the moving sack, "Is that for me?" with a smirk.
"I asked Fox to leave trails to the church, as well as anything that can divert their attention from you." Owl stated, "The kid's asleep and in one piece."
The black dog leader grinned, "Excellent work, and seeing as you had no issues getting her here, even better," before paying him the sum he owed, "Here, as promised,"
"I do feel a little bad for our friend archbishop, but it's better that they think it's him rather than follow you," Owl replied.
Volt waved it off, "I wouldn't worry too much there, especially when they won't find who their looking for, the heat will die eventually on him," glancing at the sack, "For now, I got to get this one to her new bed, If I need anything again, I'll call," with a grin, picking up the bag.
"Of course..." Owl nodded, 'As long as you're useful.'
He nodded and took the bag back with him, once again heading back to where he set up his base...
To be continued...
So with that ending, Looks like Volt has plans with his daughter, but what are they? we'll come to that conclusion soon...As for the Crew, they're still grinding and will continue to until the war begins, as Rey tries (and hopelessly) to get mentorship from lord Ruthven, but time nears, and when it begins...will they be ready for the battles ahead? stay tuned for next time :)
To FeastsofValhala: Gideon makes up for the tarnished on Volt's side, but if you have an idea for one on their side, much like the audience, feel free to add them, their gear, build, and attributes and we'll see what we can do there ;)
To Cross: Eh, those are his thoughts, at least he's smart enough to keep it to himself, again though, from his past actions, he's got something coming to him, just haven't worked it out yet, but it's coming :) I'd stick around for that, and as for the crew, shit they better train, after getting set on fire by your own magic, you'd do it too lol
To OniTenshi500: Oh don't worry, Swains got plans regarding that, and in a way, she's starting to turn around a bit, there's still blinders of course, but slowly and surely, they're coming undone, it's shown later in more chapters, hopefully, it won't be too late by then, stay tuned :)
That's all for now folks, No Omakes this time but one is being thought up, But please, if you have ideas for them, do let me know and we'll see if we can make it work...take care, and may the gods watch over your battles friend :D
