Note: This story is driven by the concept of "Because The Writer Said So" syndrome. All events
happen because the writer said so. Characters WILL be mischaracterized constantly. Enjoy! :)
TLDR; this is an excuse for bad writing.
Prologue
It's humid this raining day in Archbury. Mason usually hated the rain because of the humidity the
next day, but it's even worse when it's raining AND hot. He sat upon the large building towering
over the city's main park in Downtown, Edenia Incorporated, a pizza box in his lap and his ski
mask just above his nose. He took a slice of the square shaped pizza, covered in sausage and
Parmesan cheese, and went to take a bite. As he bit down, he saw a flashing white light in the
corner of his red lenses. He lifted the goggles up onto his forehead, his head tilting sideways.
"What the hell?" He said to himself.
Again, he saw the light, but it did not flash away. Instead, it got bigger? This was all very
confusing for him before he realizes it's not getting bigger but rather coming towards him. In a
split second decision, he took out his Walther PPQ and aimed it at the light before, finally, the
light stopped. Right in front of him. It looked like a glowing tadpole as the light seemed to look
him up and down.
"Mason Steelhart," A woman's voice whispers. It seems to come from this little beam of light.
"Uh… hello?" Mason says in response.
Mason observed this little tadpole of light before attempting to touch it. The light scurried away,
but not too far away.
"You have been chosen." the voice spoke once again.
"Chosen? For what?"
"A purpose far greater than that of what you do now. I will show you."
With that, Mason was thrust into a hole of bright blue before landing in some sort of ethereal
realm. He could hear a soft choir sing. Specifically "Destati" from the Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded
OST, but I digress.
"Hello?" Mason asked again, more annoyed this time.
"Mason Steelhart." A male voice said.
Suddenly, blue outlines of giant men and women appear in a circle around Mason.
"The realms are in disarray. Chaos reigns and the multiverse is slowly dying." an amalgamation
of multiple men and women's voices say. "We chose you as our warrior to help usher in a new
era of peace."
Mason was stunned. These gods have brought him specifically to do a task that he only
imagined was exclusive to comic books and bad movies about world's end. He felt a feeling of
flattery that out of all nearly 9 billion people, these beings chose him. However, a few things
began to flow through his mind as he continued thinking.
"You realize I'm a product of the devil, right?" Mason unzips the top half of his boiler suit,
revealing his body and the man demonic scars that plague it. "Don't these symbols show I'm a
walking security risk? I mean, I was MADE to destroy the worlds."
"Your origin was a human, your destiny was caused by the growing chaos throughout the
realms. Steelhart, we offer you an accord." The gods said.
Mason was still bewildered by the thought of these omnipotent beings choosing him out of
literally anyone else. They could have chosen someone from the plethora of multiverses out
there to do the task. But this story isn't called, oh I don't know… "Darksied v The Universe".
"Destroy the multiverse and bring balance to the realms and in return, we can give you what you
desire most. A reversal of your fate."
This made Mason actually look up at the gods. This is too good to be true, no? They'll probably
bring his life back, but then have a nuke dropped on his neighborhood like some twisted catch
you'd get from getting a wish from a genie. However, the prospect of his mother once again
walking the Earth with him once again makes him consider this accord.
"You want me to destroy the multiverse, and 'undo the chaos' and in return you'll bring my
mother back?" Mason asked.
"That is correct. Mend the realms and undo the chaos, and we shall grant you what you desire."
Mason shrugs. He's killed before. This would be no different. Except he has no fucking clue how
exactly he's meant to destroy a whole multiverse.
"So, how exactly will I undo the chaos in the realms?" Mason asked once more, twirling his PPQ
in his hand. "You gonna give me some device capable of such a thing?"
"To destroy a multiverse, you must find its core being and lead them to where the multiverse
was created. From there, you must end them and leave the realm quickly. We will handle the
rest."
Seems easy enough. If it meant destroying 99% of all life in the multiverse to see his mom
again, alive and happy, then he'd do it in a heartbeat. On the ground where Mason stood, a
glowing blue line appeared before suddenly being thrust into the first dimension. This is where
our story begins.
Chapter 1
"1-1"
Mason flew out of the portal and onto a stretch of grassy plains. It was a nice bright green, with
bright blue skies all around. It was quite a cheery upgrade compared to the gloom, doom, Zack
Snyder color-graded palette of his own world. Likewise, it was colorful. However, he did notice a
few things that seemed a little odd. The hills, flowers, clouds, all had eyes. They seemed like
static eyes but eyes nonetheless. He approached the bush of flowers and plucked one out of
the bush to examine it. It looked like plastic, but it felt like the real thing. Either he'd been cast
into some sort of world where everything is fake and plastic, or it was something else he didn't
understand.
Mason didn't have much time to dwell on the state of the organic life of this world. He had to find
the core being and the point of which this world was created. For simplicity, the point of origin.
How is he supposed to find it? The gods didn't really inform him.
"Great. Just fucking great." Mason grumbled, throwing the flower down. "So how the hell am I
supposed to find this 'Core Being'?"
Mason began walking North, waiting to see if the gods are going to use that wisp light thing they
used to contact him or something. Or are they just expecting him to know? He walked up a hill
and saw a very pleasing view of the land below. It was a long stretch of mushrooms that lead
into a town full of green pipe structures and mushroom houses. Beyond that was a green hill
with a pink Palace on top.
"It's a start." Mason muttered, as he began to make his way down the hill and to find the core
being.
Meanwhile, in Sarasaland, Mario and friends had been invited to a gala in honor of Daisy and
Luigi's anniversary. Luigi was already there of course, so the gang consisted of Mario, Princess
Peach, and Toad as they walked to the estate of Princess Daisy,
"Plumber's Log 225." thought Mario. "Today marks the 2-year anniversary for Princess Daisy of
Sarasaland and my brother Luigi. Princess Peach has entrusted the castle to Toadsworth while
we head out to Sarasaland for the gala. I have a feeling that King Koopa may try another
attempt on either Princess, so I'm keeping a few power-ups in my hat just in case."
Sarasaland was a stark contrast to the Mushroom Kingdom. While the Mushroom Kingdom can
be described as an aesthetically pleasing mix of blues and greens, Sarasaland is more orange.
Like a sunset that has been frozen in time with the foliage of an autumn in Vermont that has
been frozen in time. Mario and co had with them gifts to give to the couple at the gala. Mario
wore a black suit with a red bow-tie, dawning his signature 'M' hat on top of that. Peach wears
her usual pink dress. I mean, if it's good enough to address her kingdom, then it's good enough
for a gala. Mario had brought Daisy a golden flower statue worth a considerable amount of
coins. Princess Peach had brought Luigi a better pair of gloves and overalls, as Mario is
constantly bringing up how easily worn out their attire gets when protecting the princesses from
the forces of King Koopa.
"I cannot believe Luigi and the princess have been together for 2 whole years! Time really flies,
don't you think?" Asked Toad in his high-pitched squeaky voice.
"That's my brother. Loyal and great with the ladies. Even in the face of evil, he doesn't back
down. So if things get bad with Daisy, I doubt my bro would just abandon the situation and
leave." Mario responds, pride in his voice.
Mario was right. In terms of pure gumption, Luigi was a bit of a coward when compared to his
older brother, but that never stopped Luigi from doing what he thought was right. So if things did
go south with Daisy, Luigi would be the one who'd try his damnedest to fix it.
As the group approached the Sarasaland castle, they noticed the amount of people from not
only the Mushroom Kingdom but other lands as well had gathered to witness this milestone for
the couple. The streets were lit up with decorative lights and multiple decorative banners. It
seems Daisy went all out for this one.
"Hey guys!" A familiar tomboyish voice yelled out from the distance. It was Daisy with Luigi by
her side, who was dressed in a similar attire to Mario except replace the red with green.
"Hiya, bro!" Luigi said in his sweet and upbeat voice. "So glad you could make it."
"Why wouldn't I? This is a special occasion for my brother. Why not come down and support
'em?" Mario replied with a smile, giving his brother a pat on the back.
"What are we doing just standing around! Let's get inside and get this party started!" Daisy said,
pulling Luigi away with her. Mario, Peach and Toad looked at each other, all letting out a chuckle
before entering the castle and enjoy the party.
Back at the Mushroom Kingdom, Mason had made the entire walk into the mushroom village.
There were these weird creatures with a height up to his waist, minus the spotted balloons at
the top of their heads. These mushroom people looked just like the flowers he plucked earlier.
Almost like a cartoon had become three-dimensional. The mushroom people stared at Mason
with fear. Some of them running inside their mushroom houses or heading into the green pipes.
I mean, Mason wasn't exactly bright and colorful. His black boiler suit, red straps forming a V on
his, chest, a mouthless ski mask with glowing red goggles, doesn't exactly strike people as the
friendly type. That and the dual Uzis on his back and the dual pistols on his thighs. He looks at
one of the pipes that seem to go up the hill and to the castle above.
"Do I just…?" as Mason says that, the tube sucks him in and shoots him out on the top, right at
the entrance of the castle. He feels the worn bricks rub at his face and it isn't a pleasant feeling.
He shakes his head and lets out a groan of both annoyance and pain.
"How the hell am I supposed to figure out who the fuck's the core being?!" Mason shouted,
slamming his fist against the path. He heard the sound of footsteps approaching, and a lot of
them. When he looked up, he saw dozens of those mushroom people begin to circle him, armed
with large axes. Mason was outnumbered.
"Who are you, and why do you approach the Princess's quarters?!" Asked one Toad with a
rough voice.
Mason was screwed. He has 2 options right now, fight on and be stuck in a cycle of dying,
coming back, dying, coming back or lie and hope they buy it. Mason clears his throat and
speaks.
"Friends. I am Vee, the ambassador of the great lord Janus. I come here in search of one known
as the One Being, a powerful character capable of undoing the chaos and war between all
kingdoms."
The commanding officer looks confused.
"We don't know of any lord Janus around these parts" The gruff sounding commander said.
"Uh… well… t-that's because lord Janus is a god. I am but his avatar to clear the world of
chaos." Mason replies, struggling to think of anything better. To be fair, he wasn't FULLY lying.
Just as Mason is about to book it, he sees it again. The wisp has appeared right in front of him
and just like last time in a flash of light blue, he is again before the circle of gods.
"Fucking finally! You can't just drop me in the middle of some random universe and expect me to
just know who I'm supposed to kill!" Mason said angrily, pointing at one of the many gods
surrounding him.
"It is regrettable, but you are to mend the realms and end the chaos. This universe's core being
is this woman." They all say, bringing up some sort of ethereal image of a brown haired
princess. "The point of origin is at this castle."
Mason takes note of the castle and the princess.
"So what, I just take her to the castle, pop a few caps in her and call it a day?" Mason asks
bluntly.
"Once freed, her soul will allow this world's core to power down and end the chaos within.
However, its survival is not guaranteed."
"Got it." Mason says, walking back to the center ready to be sent back. "One last thing, please,
for the love of all things holy, don't just abandon me again."
The gods nod and Mason is dropped back in, back to the spot where he first arrived. However,
the wisp is now present.
"Come. Follow me." it whispered. "I can take you to where you must go."
