Chapter 43-Turtles Vs Hun The Deadly
The older turtle brothers entered through the metal door and found themselves in a tunnel. They walked through it until they came across a campsite, which they noticed had a few infected guards standing by a campfire.
They were able to take them all out with a combination of stealth and explosive arrows before moving on and having a look around in the campsite tents. They then entered a larger tent and saw an old newspaper clipping from the New York Times on the table.
As the turtles read through the article, they immediately recognised the story as the dock bombing incident from 2 years ago. The reporter who wrote the article described how many of the Purple Dragons on that night were killed, and that it was discovered that the police officers involved were paid by an unknown source to cover the incident up and make it out like it was an accident when it was the police themselves who caused it.
However, when the turtles saw the publish date, which was 2 days after the incident happened, they realised that they had never known or been told of this article's existence in the newspapers or on the TV News, meaning that someone didn't want to expose the real story and threatened the reporter to stay silent.
"Looks like someone was trying to expose the truth on what really happened, but was caught and threatened from doing so…" Donnie pointed out.
"Those sick cops…They're suppose ta be keepin' da city safe and preventin' crimes from happenin', not cause 'em and make it out like it was nothin' just ta get paid more money fer it…!" Raph growled angrily.
"Don't let the cops' actions get you angry, Raph; we'll make sure that this article gets republished to the public and expose the truth, but we can't lose our focus now…Our main priority is rescuing Mikey and bringing him back home…" Leo reminded Raph firmly whilst storing the article safely in his belt pouch.
Raph nodded in understanding before he looked to one side and saw a tape recorder next to a computer. He approached the device, pressed the play button, and listened in with his brothers when they heard a familiar man's voice coming through the speaker.
"You've done well to make it this far, freaks. I've prepared a battlefield, just for us fighters…It's the perfect place to put an end to what happened two years ago…I'll be waiting…"
After the recording had finished, the older turtle brothers looked at each other with serious expressions on their faces, all knowing what the message meant.
"Sounds like Hun is waiting for us up ahead…There's no going back now, my brothers…" Leo warned.
"We're not intending on turning away from this, Leo; Mikey is still with those monsters, and Hun is in our way…" Donnie reminded, his face showing fierce determination to defeat Hun and save his only little brother.
"Who says we're turning away? I'm with you, Donnie…" Leo told him firmly.
"Then, let's get on with it…It's time fer him ta pay fer what he's done ta both Mikey andLuis…!" Raph growled, punching a fist in his hand.
Leo and Donnie firmly nodded in agreement before they prepared their weapons and made their way out of the tent to start making their way towards Hun's 'battlefield'.
As they walked, they noticed that they were surrounded by old and broken down ruins of old buildings.
"Wow…These structures must be over hundreds of years old, maybe even thousands…!" Donnie exclaimed in fascination and awe.
"Now's not the best time to be doing any archaeological stuff, Donnie, we need to keep an eye out for Hun…" Leo reminded his smart brother firmly.
Donnie became slightly disappointed, but he knew his oldest brother was right. The trio approached a ledge and jumped down before they continued walking.
"You kept me waiting, freaks…!" Hun's stern voice was heard before he appeared on the upper wall on the right side.
"…" The turtle trio said nothing and just slowly carried on walking away from him.
"Oh, you're worried about your little brother, is that it?" Hun questioned snidely before he spoke again.
"Hmm, that's just like you. He has always been the one to expose your softer and weaker sides, especially whenever he's in trouble or he becomes the trouble…Heh, heh, heh, heh…"
"Shut up! You don't know anythin' about Mikey or any of us!" Raph snapped furiously with Leo and Donnie holding him back as he tried to charge towards him.
"Whatever…but if you think I'm gonna let you all outta here alive, you're even more stupid than I thought…" Hun told the trio before he started walking at the same time as them when they started walking away again.
"You can't save him…You can't save anyone, cos you're freaks that everyone hates!" He then mocked harshly.
"Give it up, Hun!" Leo snapped as he and his brothers stopped walking and faced him again.
"Being a lackey for these maniacs won't bring your lost members back….!" Donnie told him.
"And what da shell for? Revenge on da police or da government? Ya really think dat they would want dat!?" Raph questioned heatedly.
"Revenge? You think that I'm doing all this for revenge?" Hun answered with a question.
"Well, isn't that what this is all about?" Leo asked.
"Not exactly…You see, after that incident, a revelation came to me. The most important thing in this world is pure, unadulterated power! The Los Illuminados gang had given me that…" Hun told the turtles.
"Ya know ya were always a huge pain in our shells, Hun…" Raph insulted.
"But a least you had some kind of code, some honour, for a gang leader! And look at you now; working for a cult that's planning to destroy humanity itself…!" Leo added in a serious tone.
"Enough talk…Draw your weapons and take your best shot, freaks!" Hun told the turtles before he jumped backwards and started shooting at them.
The turtle brothers immediately ran for cover behind some broken pillars before staying low whilst preparing their weapons.
"Better run, freaks!" Hun shouted.
"Not like we have a choice…" Leo sighed.
"Careful, he's using a red light pointer to aim and hunt for his targets!" Donnie warned as he observed Hun's movements.
BANG!
The turtles jumped when they heard a gunshot fire and hit their pillar.
"Now!" Leo hissed before he and his brothers dashed towards more broken pillars ahead of them.
"Where are you going? You're not running away, are you…?" Hun taunted.
"As if…!" Raph answered loudly as he, Leo, and Donnie ran up the stairs of a broken up building and reached the next level up.
Suddenly, Hun jumped onto the same floor as them and took out his army knife.
"Guess I'll make the first move…!" He growled as he charged towards Leo with his knife in hand.
Leo parried against the knife with his katanas until Hun pulled out another army knife and tried to strike him on his other side, but Leo immediately saw it and stopped him by blocking the human male's arm with his own. He then blocked the first knife in the same way until they were locked arm-to-arm.
Despite being bigger in size, Hun was pushed away by Leo after breaking free before being kicked away. Raph then took a few shots at him, the bullets of which had struck him in his shoulder and left side, and Donnie slid in front of the human male and did an uppercut from underneath him, sending him flying slightly and making him dizzy.
"Now's our chance! Tackle him!" Leo shouted before he and his brothers charged towards Hun.
"Grr…" Hun growled as he came around from his dizzy spell before he threw a flash grenade in front of the turtles.
The turtle brothers covered their eyes until the light faded, but when they opened their eyes again, they noticed that Hun had disappeared.
"Where'd he go!?" Raph questioned as he looked around vigorously.
"You better hustle, freaks! Who knows what's become of your little brother…!" They heard Hun taunt them from a distance.
"He must've moved deeper into the ruins, by the sound of it…We should hurry and catch up with him…" Donnie guessed.
"Dat's it! I'm goin' after him!" Raph growled.
After noticing a door that could only be opened by a wheel next to them, Raph immediately turned it at a fast pace and opened the door. He then made a dash towards the now-opened door with Leo and Donnie following him from behind.
As they moved further into the ruins, Raph hadn't noticed that there were red laser sensors shining in the middle of the entry ways, but Donnie did and immediately grabbed him just before he could come into contact with them.
"Raph, stop! He's turned this place into one big trap. We can't fight him like this…!" Donnie warned him as he pointed at the red light beams.
"Donnie's right; we will need to tread carefully and keep our guards up if we wanna get out of this place and defeat Hun…" Leo agreed wisely.
Just then, Hun jumped down and landed behind Leo.
"Look out!" Donnie cried.
But it was too late; by the time Leo turned around to face him, the human male tripped him and hovered over him whilst attempting to stab him.
"Leo!" "Get off him!" Raph and Donnie shouted as they charged towards Hun and tried their best to get him off of a struggling Leo.
After giving Hun a hard kick in the gut, Leo had managed to get free as soon as the large male human had released him. Hun growled before he threw another flash grenade.
BANG!
The turtle brothers immediately covered their eyes as the grenade went off. When they reopened their eyes, Hun was nowhere to be seen.
"Don't stop moving, freaks!" Hun shouted in the shadows.
"Come on…" Leo commanded quietly before he, Raph, and Donnie continued through the underground ruins to look for a way out.
Finally, the trio found an opening above them and managed to get out. It was then that they had spotted Hun standing on a higher level of the ruins ahead of them.
"Are you ready to die, freaks!?" Hun questioned before he aimed his gun at them.
The turtles took cover, narrowly missing the shot, before Hun disappeared again using a flash grenade.
Shortly after opening their eyes again, the turtle brothers cautiously walked down the corridor before discovering not only more laser traps ahead of them, but there were also auto-turrets on the ceiling further ahead. They took cover whilst using their guns to take out the sensor bombs and shoot down the auto-turrets before moving on.
"I love a good hunt!" Hun cried out excitedly before blasting a rocket missile at the turtles again.
"It's you dat we're huntin' down, Hun, not da other way around…!" Raph shouted before he and his brothers ran after Hun.
"You're all still alive, huh? You got lucky!" Hun's voice echoed around the staircase.
"It's not luck, it's years of ninja training that's keeping us alive…!" Leo corrected as he and his younger brothers continued running up the stairs.
When they had finally reached the top, their eyes widened at what was in front of them; there were small walls spread out on a long path up ahead, and Hun was standing on top of a wall with an open doorway below him.
"I admit – you've all done well to stay alive this long!" They heard Hun say before he suddenly started firing another rocket at the turtle brothers, all of whom immediately ducked for cover behind the nearest wall.
"We'd all be dead if we kept listenin' ta numbskulls like you!" Raph told him heatedly from behind the wall.
"The Grim Reaper comes for cowards and careless alike. Which are you three?" Hun questioned eerily.
"We don't know, Hun! Guess we'll ask him when we see him…which will never happen!" Leo answered as he and his brothers ran from one wall to another whilst keeping an eye out for more firearm attacks from Hun.
Raph wanted to counter-attack Hun with his own gun, but Leo and Donnie stopped him and explained to him that the human male was too high up and at an advantage over them, and that it would only cause the red-banded turtle to waste his ammo. Releasing a reluctant grunt, Raph put his weapon away for now and followed Leo's lead as he dashed from one wall to another to avoid being hit by the rockets until they had finally reached the entrance up ahead.
"Looks like you've passed…Here are your medals!" Hun said before three grenades were thrown near the turtle brothers' position.
"Grenades!" Donnie cried out in horror before he and his older brothers dove for cover.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The grenades exploded, causing a huge cloud of smoke to appear. The turtle brothers waited for a whole minute before they could come out of their hiding spot.
"Why dat cowardly, cheatin'-"
"Calm down, Raph, we all knew that he was gonna do that…" Donnie jumped in front of Raph to keep him from going on a rampage.
"Right…Now, come on; Hun might be up ahead…" Leo said firmly.
The younger turtle brothers didn't need to be told twice. They followed Leo as he started running up the stairs through the entrance. When they all had reached the other side, they saw Hun on top of another structure ahead of them.
"This is it, freaks!" Hun announced excitedly before he aimed his gun at the turtles.
The trio immediately took cover behind the pillars nearby and readied their weapons. Once Hun had stopped firing, the turtle brothers started firing at him with their own weapons, causing Hun to fall off the edge.
"Are you really doing this, Hun!? It's not too late to stop and walk away!" Leo said in a confronting tone as he and his brothers charged towards him.
"Me and you freaks are on two different sides of the same coin! That means we will never see eye-to-eye, especially since we've been enemies from day one many years ago…!" Hun told him whilst deflecting and dodging the turtles' attacks before attempting to land some knife attacks of his own.
"Just because you're our enemy, doesn't mean you deserve to be as low as them and die a horrible fate!" Donnie told him with a small hint of sadness in his voice whilst blocking the incoming attacks.
"It doesn't matter anymore…You and I have chosen different paths. All that's left is to finish this the old-fashioned way!" Hun dismissed before he readied his fists.
"Fine by us, Hun…!" Raph replied as he grabbed his sais.
"Let's finish this, Hun…" Leo said as he unsheathed his swords and readied them again.
"We won't let you continue with this heinous crime anymore…!" Donnie told the large male human bravely whilst readying his handgun.
"Shut your mouths! You and your pathetic brothers wouldn't wanna die with your mouths open!" Hun snapped.
Suddenly, Hun threw a flash grenade once again to distract the turtles before jumping up on the edge of a partly crumbled wall.
"Are we done here, Hun?" Leo questioned, now getting fed up with this fight with his brothers feeling the same way.
"Oh, we're nowhere near done, freaks…Ngh!" Hun started talking in an eery tone when he grunted as his left arm began to hurt and movement was occurring underneath the skin.
Suddenly, his left arm started to undergo a grotesque transformation; long blade-like structures protruded out of his forearm, completely covering it, before his fingers produced long and sharp claws that resembled a dragon's.
"What da shell…!?" Raph questioned with wide eyes.
"Oh, no…What has he done…!?" Donnie exclaimed in horror.
"Rrrroooooaaaarrr!" Hun let out a roar before he jumped and slammed his mutated arm to the ground, causing the structure to collapse under the turtles' feet.
The turtle brothers tried to run to safety, but the bricks under their feet had already fallen, causing them to descend to the lower floor. They landed with a thud, but they managed to slowly get themselves up whilst coughing the dust out of their lungs.
"It's time…for Round 2!" They heard Hun's voice echo in the darkness.
"Quick, turn your lights on!" Leo commanded before he and his brothers switched on their flashlights.
"Witness the power!" Hun's voice echoed loudly again.
"Ok, he's definitely lost his mind…!" Raph said angrily as he and his brothers cautiously continued on and turned around a corner.
"Here I come!" Hun then cried out when he suddenly appeared before he moved in for the killer attack.
Seeing the attack first, Leo blocked the incoming claw attack with his katanas before he watched as Hun jumped up and disappeared into the darkness. With no other choice but to keep going, the turtle brothers cautiously moved forward whilst moving through tight spaces to get to the other side of the man-made maze.
"So, that's yer true power? Oh, I'd ask 'em fer a refund, pal…!" Raph mocked.
"You're gonna regret opening that smart mouth of yours, freak…!" Hun replied in annoyance from a distance.
"Stay close together, guys; this place is like a maze, and Hun is trying to bury us in here…" Leo commanded.
They walked through the dark labyrinth for another 2 minutes before Donnie spotted a way out.
"There! I see an exit!" Donnie cried out as he pointed to a square-shaped exit up ahead of him and his brothers.
But just as the turtle brothers were about to make a move towards the exit…
"You're not getting away!"
They heard Hun shout before being tackled to the ground hard by the half-mutated man, who then jumped away and disappeared into the darkness again.
"I can't wait to see you all squirm in pain!" Hun's voice echoed as the turtles stood back up and ran out of the dark maze.
They hurried up a ladder as they approached a tower-like structure, and when they saw a drawbridge leading towards the next location where mikey might be, they ran over to it. However, just as they started running, the drawbridge was suddenly raised up.
"No! The drawbridge!" Donnie cried out in despair.
"Shell…What now?" Leo questioned in frustration.
Just then, Hun appeared from behind them. This time, his right arm had also transformed in the same way as his left arm.
"We're not done with this battle, freaks…It's now time for Round 3!" Hun told the turtles in an animalistic manner before he zoomed towards them.
The turtle brothers dodged out of the way just as Hun slammed his right clawed hand onto the wooden planks they were standing on, and then they fell and landed in the middle of the tower.
"Nah, dis is da final round, Hun…cos we're endin' dis here and now!" Raph countered as he looked at the mutated man in fury.
"Right!" Leo and Donnie cheered in determination, standing by him on each side.
"Ooh, such confidence and anger…Bring it, freaks!" Hun complimented with a sneer.
With a readied stance, Hun jumped off the upper walkway and attempted to land a hard hit on the turtle brothers below, but the trio saw it coming and managed to dodge out of the way just as he landed hard on the ground.
"It's time to settle this, Hun…" Leo said in a low tone before he started shooting at the mutated man with his machinegun, whilst Raph and Donnie took out their own firearms and started firing bullets at him as well.
Despite being shot at multiple times, however, Hun stood back up straight and turned towards the turtles brothers before he readied his dragon-like claws, charged towards them, and began slashing at them. The turtle brothers immediately dodged and started blocking his attacks with their bladed/wooden weapons.
"I'm not surprised you've made it this far!" Hun said as he continued slashing at the turtle brothers.
"That's because the combination of our determination and bond as brothers was what helped us to do so!" Leo replied firmly whilst blocking Hun's slash attacks.
During the fight, Raph jumped out of Hun's line of attack and moved behind him to fire two shotgun rounds. Hun roared and angrily faced Raph before he charged towards him and threw a punch. Raph narrowly evaded the attack and stabbed him twice in the gut and shoulder, causing the mutated man to roar in pain and back away.
Seeing Hun distracted, Leo and Donnie pounced onto his body and stabbed him with their own bladed weapons, with Raph joining them by using his sais to stab the mutated man again. However, Hun still did not go down, and he suddenly spun his body around to shake the turtle brothers off of him, causing the trio to be sent flying and land roughly on the ground.
"Pathetic! How long are you gonna keep fighting in those weak bodies of yours?" Hun sneered.
"Until the mission to save our brother is finished!" Leo answered confidently as he and his brothers stood back up.
Hun tutted before he charged towards the turtle brothers again. Leo and Raph were able to jump out of the way, but Donnie wasn't quick enough; Hun firmly grabbed him by his head and slowly started squeezing, causing the purple-banded turtle to cry out in pain. Luckily, Donnie had his knife still in his belt, so he quickly grabbed it and stabbed Hun in the shoulder, making the mutated man roar in agony and drop the purple-banded turtle immediately and allowing him to get away from him.
"Give up, freaks! My strength is without equal!" Hun demanded before he jumped and tried to slam a clawed fist on Leo, but the blue-banded turtle managed to dodge out of his line of sight, so the large male mutant punched the ground instead.
However, the shockwave from the attack had caused the turtle brothers to be sent flying, and Leo nearly fell off the platform completely if he hadn't have grabbed onto the edge.
"Strength is everything. The weak can protect nothing!" He then said with an evil smirk as he approached the struggling Leo and tried to make him drop by stomping on his shoulders.
With his spare hand, Leo reached for one of his katana swords and stabbed Hun in the leg, making him grunt in pain and back away to give Leo the chance to get back onto the platform.
"You're wrong, Hun! There is more to protecting others than just strength alone!" Leo countered wisely.
"Right, and with the way you're going, there won't be anyone left to protect! Surely, you know that deep down!" Donnie pointed out.
Hun just ignored him, and he instead charged towards them with his large claws. The turtle brothers quickly dodged him and readied their firearms again.
"C'mon, even you can't deny this power! Imagine the strength you'd have!" Hun persuaded snidely.
"And turn into an ugly monster like you!? Ya must be outta yer mind!" Raph refused before he shot Hun in the chest with his shotgun.
Donnie fired an explosive arrow at Hun, which immediately exploded and stunned him. Leo then used his machinegun to fire multiple rounds until Hun roared in pain and collapsed in the middle of the platform.
After taking a moment to catch their breaths, the turtle brothers slowly walked towards Hun, who showed no signs of standing back up. It was then that they knew that Hun's condition was severe; not only was he too far in his mutation to be cured, but he was also bleeding out and struggling to breathe due to his fatal wounds.
"G-Go ahead…Do…what you have to do…" Hun breathed raggedly.
Leo, Raph, and Donnie all looked at each other with unsure expressions on their faces. During their ninja training, they were raised by their sensei and father to never take a life in a battle, so having to face the possibility of breaking that important rule was hard for them to accept.
"There's no…Gasp…turning back for me now…F-Finish me…" Hun then told them with a gasp, now finding it harder to breathe.
Knowing that was no other way to help Hun, Leo slowly unsheathed one of his katana swords and hovered the tip over the mutated man's chest. Raph and Donnie then placed their hands around the handle with Leo's hand, not wanting their oldest brother to do this alone.
Then, after a moment of hesitation, the trio dealt the fatal blow and stabbed Hun deeply in his chest.
"Aaaaaaarrrrgghh!" Hun roared in pain as he felt the long blade go through his chest.
Leo, Raph, and Donnie had their eyes closed the entire process. A moment later, they slowly took the sword out of Hun's chest.
"Y-You win…T-Turtles…" Hun managed to say weakly before he closed his eyes and drew his last breath. The fight had finally ended.
The turtle brothers looked at Hun with expressions of both anguish and sorrow before they heard and saw the drawbridge being lowered. They then began walking their way over to it, but before they crossed it fully, the trio turned around to look at Hun one last time.
"We hope that you finally find peace, Hun…" Leo said solemnly before he continued walking away to the other side just as the drawbridge was being raised back up.
Shortly after the drawbridge was raised completely, the turtle brothers continued on with their mission to save their little brother.
/
5 minutes later…
As the turtle brothers continued their walk towards the sanctuary, the atmosphere around them was now heavy and had an air of sadness. In Leo's heart and mind, the ninja code that they had followed for many years had now been tainted after their final battle with Hun.
"Are you alright, Leo?" Donnie asked in concern when he saw how down he looked.
"Yeah, Don…I'm just thinking about what I should tell Master Splinter about what we just did…" Leo answered worriedly.
"Don't tell me yer feelin' bad fer Hun…! We did him a favour by puttin' him out of his misery…!" Raph groaned.
"I know that, Raph, but the number one rule in our ninja code is to never take away a life in battle…! We've never broken that rule until now…!" Leo reminded firmly.
"Yeah, I get dat, but Hun chose dis path and never looked back…He allowed his anger and resentment ta take over and become one of those monsters…!" Raph countered before he asked him a serious question.
"Would ya have killed me if I ever ended up like dat?"
"I-I…No! That will never happen to you, Raph, because you're better at controlling your anger and resisting the urge for such vile power…!" Leo strongly refused.
"That's true, but I think what Raph is trying to say, Leo, is that Hun chose to walk down a dark path that lead to what he had become back there, and he paid the price with his life as a result of that. Raph, however, is different; he knows what his anger could do if left untamed and would rather die than become a violent monster, but he would never choose to allow temptation in letting the darkness of his anger to take over his heart and mind. In other words, he is emotionally stronger than Hun, no matter how angry he gets…" Donnie specified firmly but softly.
"…Yeah, dat's…da philosophical way of sayin' it…Yeah…" Raph said in awe whilst feeling a bit awkward at the same time.
Leo looked at Donnie in astonishment for a moment before his firm face softened as he released a deep sigh. He had finally understood what his brothers were trying to tell him.
"You're right…both of you are…and I'm sorry for worrying you all…" Leo said sincerely.
"It's fine, Fearless…! Like ya said; takin' a life in battle is not how we were raised, so it's gonna be hard fer us ta move on from dat…" Raph replied in understanding.
"However, I'm sure that Master Splinter will understand the circumstances as to why we had to do it; he would never punish us harshly for ending Hun's suffering, especially since his type of mutation was incurable…" Donnie added in a reassuring tone.
"I hope so…" Leo replied in a concerned tone.
"Anyway, we don't have time ta stand around and ponder on what just happened a moment ago; we need ta go and save Mikey from dat freak Saddler…!" Raph reminded firmly.
"Yeah, you're right…Let's get moving…" Leo replied in agreement before he and his brothers continued on, all hoping to find and rescue Mikey before it was too late.
