Author's Notes: Here's a new little story I've started. I've always been a fan of this show. I absolutely love Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron. I was sad when it was cancelled, though I believe it happened because the voice actor for Commander Feral died. So, in a way, I also understand.

Now I know this series doesn't have a lot of fans anymore, but I still write for those of us that are around. Though I'll probably try to get my niece and nephews into it. No guaranteed updates, I just felt like continuing something I hadn't touched in almost a year in a half. If anyone does read this, I hope you enjoy it.

There will be no present romance, though there are past relationships. I don't think it counts since it's a bit of a reincarnation sort of deal? And this story doesn't believe in positional gender roles. You'll get a better explanation of that later, but it's really simple: Kings and Queens can be either male or female is what I'm pulling with this story.

Also note that I do have the next chapter of my 'Blitz's Helluva a Hazbin Vacation' begun, I just need to get into the groove for it again to finish. Please, only constructive criticism, no flames.

Disclaimer: I don't own Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron. And I don't make money off of this.

Summary: While on an archaeological dig just outside of Mega Kat City, Dr. Abby Simian and her crew discover an ancient orb that could belong to the Lost City of Katlantis. An ancient civilization thought to be a mere myth in history.

However, with this discovery comes more revelations that connect six key figures in Mega Kat City to Katlantis: Abby Simian herself. Deputy Calico Briggs. Commander Feral. Lt. Felina. And both Swat Kats.

If this wasn't strange enough already, danger blossoms in the form of the Abyssals: a darker, seedier part of Katlantis's history. These are Dark Kat, the metalikats, Past Master, and Doctor Viper.

With knowledge of three other orbs like the one Dr. Simian found scattered in locations all through the city, each possessing a key to the secrets of Katlantis, it's a race to find them. After all, the winner gets the prize, and Razor just so happens to be a part of that premium.

With a desperation to keep themselves and the city safe, they must work together and win this race at all costs, or the Abyssals could destroy the world as they know it. Will they succeed? Or is Mega Kat City and its protectors doomed to repeat the tragedy of Katlantis?

Katlantis

The once beautiful city lay in ruins below him. Dark green eyes swept over all that was left of his and his beloved's city. The once proud, tall buildings now lay destroyed and scattered throughout the green nature, now dyed red with blood and black with fires. The dead and dying scattered though out the once gorgeous city.

How had it come to this? He turned at the sound of footsteps behind him. He glanced back to see her, the commander of his forces. He hadn't seen the she-kat this destroyed since... ever. She had always had a strong mental resolve, but he knew that even she couldn't stay stable after all of this. He saw the other two of their group behind her, the advisor and inquisitor. The four of them all that remained of their family of six.

He grimaced as he took in their states, seeing how destroyed and broken they were. He knew he wasn't looking much better. He glanced at the orbs each of them possessed. He knew what they needed to do, but doing it was... confirmation that this wasn't just a nightmare. But it was the final orders his beloved had given them before it happened.

He sighed, glancing once more over everything that had once been their home. A paradise, he would have once called it. But alas, everything good had to come to an end. The four shared a look, weary and worn. But they knew what they had to do. They shared a last look between them before they all went their own separate ways. There was one last mission they had to fulfill. They owed it to his beloved and the General.

They could only hope what his beloved said about them all meeting again was true.

This wasn't over, and that was their only hope.

Chapter One:

Doctor Abby Simian, curator of the Mega Kat City Museum, let out an ecstatic and triumphant cry, getting her crew's attention. They rushed over and helped the she-kat pull up a chest. It wasn't as large as the Past Master's chest when he had first awoken... maybe a third of the size. The chest was seamless, as far as Abby could tell. It was made of a strange, stone material that was worn, but in shockingly good condition. There were strange symbols made of another unknown alloy around the edge where she could only assume the seam of the lid was supposed to be.

It wasn't until she saw the pictograph of a spiral with the crystal in the center, though, that she had made the connection. "I think this is an artifact of Katlantis!" She exclaimed, recognizing the symbol many researchers had agreed to represent Katlantis. There was a cheer from the crew. "We must get this prepped for relocation to the Museum." she said.

'Who would have thought that ruins unearthed by the earthquake last week would be Katlantis?' Abby thought to herself as her crew got back to work after insisting that she accompany the chest to the museum. To get to work immediately on the new discovery. She couldn't wait to get to work on deciphering the symbols and their meanings. Maybe she could even find a way to open it. She had a lot of work ahead of her.

Katlantis

Jake Clawson sighed as he closed shop that day. He had felt wired all week, and without any attacks, he was starting to get antsy. Thankfully, he knew Chance had felt the same way. Jake wasn't positive but he just knew that it had something to do with that blasted earthquake last week. Then there was the new dig that Doctor Simian and Callie had told them about. Without any luck on why they were wound so tight, Jake was wondering if dropping in on Abby would at least distract him from the feeling. Before he could suggest the idea to Chance, the familiar sound of Callie's alert call came through. Sharing a look, the Swat Kats rushed to the hanger, Jake answering the call.

"Hey Ms. Briggs. What's wrong?" Razor asked, tensed for the news. Was it Dark Kat? Doctor Viper? The Past Master? Some kat new?

"Sorry Razor, it's not an emergency. I did have news though." Callie's voice sounded, apologetic, and they relaxed some.

"That's good. What news Deputy?" T-Bone asked in relief.

"You know the dig site that was instated just under a week ago?" the she-kat asked.

"Yeah, the one Doctor Simian is working on, right?" Razor asked. After the last incident with Katchu-Peechu and the Past Master, the Swat Kats had been kept updated in case something happened again.

"That one. Apparently, Abby made a discovery!" Callie gushed; her excitement obvious. Razor's ears twitched in excitement and intrigue while his tail lashed with nervous energy.

"What kind of discovery?" T-Bone asked with curiosity.

"I'm on my way to find out now! You should drop by. Abby wouldn't mind. Besides, haven't you been following the dig?"

"Yeah, actually. That sounds great. We're on our way." Razor answered for him and T-Bone, knowing that both were curious. Besides, anything to take their mind off this anxiety they had been feeling.

Katlantis

Commander Ulysses Feral had been on edge all week, and his niece was not much better. Over the years, the two had formed a rather decisive and strong team, she was his best pilot after all. They did work without each other, but mostly they teamed up.

He glanced at his niece as she paced his office. Things had been like this for a week now for both of them, he was just in better control of himself with years of practice. He could only hope that it was the anxiety of the earthquake last week and the new dig that popped up afterwards. Considering what happened at the last dig, it would make sense. Somehow though, despite it being Feral's hope, he knew it was something else entirely.

"Felina." he sighed, getting the dual haired she-kat's attention. "You're going to wear a hole in the floor." he mused with a smile, trying to calm her down.

"Sorry uncle. I just..." she let out a small hiss, tail lashing in anxiety.

"I know. It's the same for me too. But there's nothing we can do. We just have to wait for news of anything happening." he told her, not liking it either. It was too quiet after the earthquake, and no one had heard from any of Mega Kat City's normal villains and troublemakers.

Plus, the Swat Kats hadn't caused him any problems either since Mayor Manx pardoned the two hotshot vigilantes after saving the city again two weeks ago. So, despite everything, they were no longer wanted. It was annoying. He was brought from his thoughts by Felina plopping down ungracefully into the chair in front of his desk.

"It's peaceful and quiet... And that's the problem, isn't it?" She asked, huffing. Feral couldn't help chuckling at her before nodding. That was when the news came across his computer. "What is it?" Felina asked, now hyper focused on him.

Feral sighed in relief at getting news and read the alert. "Huh. Looks like the dig bore fruit." he told his niece. Her eyes widened.

"So soon?" she asked, excitement in her voice.

"Yes. How about we go look into the discovery? Doctor Simian took it back to the museum to begin examining it." Feral suggested, the sentence hadn't even been finished before Felina had jumped from her seat.

"Yes." She replied. Feral chuckled in spite of himself. He knew he was never big on history, but he had come to appreciate it over the years. With literally nothing else to do, the Feral duo left Enforcers Headquarters and made their way to the museum.

'Maybe it'll be a good break from everything.' Feral thought.

Katlantis

Calico 'Callie' Briggs, Deputy Mayor of Mega Kat City excitedly rushed up the stairs and towards Abby's private lab, the one used for such examinations of old artifacts. All week, ever since that earthquake, Callie had been on edge.

She was certain something was going to happen, even though nothing had except the dig that Abby had applied for permission to begin after news of ruins being spotted had come in. Anything to learn more about Mega Kat City's history. She had been waiting for news of anything being found and was thrilled about the update.

She was curious as to what the other she-kat had found. "Doctor Simian, I've arrived." Callie called to the other as she approached. Abby gave her a smile.

"You sure got here fast, Callie." Abby laughed. Callie blushed with her own chuckle.

"I was curious and excited." Callie replied, catching a glimpse of what Abby had found. "Is that it?" It was a beautiful chest with symbols and shapes made of a shiny metal, it almost glowed.

"Yes. I think this might be connected to Katlantis." Abby said, excitement thrumming through her at the mention of the mythical city.

"Katlantis?" Callie and another voice exclaimed. Looking over, the two she-kats spotted Commander Feral and Lt. Felina entering the room.

"Katlantis." Abby nodded. "You two as well?" she asked curiously. The two of them gave a sheepish nod and she chuckled.

"I expect the Swat Kats will pop in soon as well. Told them what I heard. They sounded excited, especially Razor."

"He has been keeping an exceptionally close eye on the dig for news, I'll admit." Abby replied as she began to examine the chest, running a hand over the symbols and stone.

"Well, that last one got invaded by the Past Master, can't say I blame them. And Razor is especially interested in science and history." Felina replied. They watched as the researcher looked over the chest and began to run a few tests.

"Do we know what this material is?" Feral asked, running a finger over the semi-glowing metal embedded within the stone. It buzzed against his fur.

"Not yet, but it's durable and nothing we've seen." Abby replied with a smile. "It's almost...living with the way it reacts to touch, don't you think?" She asked the commander. She didn't reprimand him for touching it as they had confirmed it wasn't harmful. The others were curious and touched it themselves.

"It tickles." Callie giggled.

"What does?" T-Bone's voice asked, getting their attention. The Swat Kats had arrived. Feral rolled his eyes as the two hot shots entered through the window of all places. Would they ever use the door?

"The unknown metallic alloy in the stone." Felina answered. T-Bone was the first to approach and touch it while Razor joined Simian and looked over her notes so far.

"You think it's connected to Katlantis?" Razor asked in surprise and awe, going over the papers.

"I do. The symbol in the center- the spiral- has been believed by historians for a millennium as the symbol of Katlantis. How we got that idea, we're still unsure. But it is the unanimous agreement all through the records." Abby answered.

"That's pretty neat. Any ideas about the other symbols on the chest?" T-Bone asked, running a claw over them.

"Not yet." Abby said.

"It's Ancient Katlantian." Razor replied thoughtfully, glancing over at the chest. That got everyone's attention. "Well, it's what Ancient Katlantian is theorized to look like." he amended.

"I didn't realize that Ancient Katlantian had been theorized?" Abby said intrigued.

"Yeah, well the research had been destroyed before it could be publicized." Razor sighed, obviously annoyed at that admittance.

"How are you aware of that?" Felina asked in curiosity.

"I was, maybe, a little bit involved in the research. There had been a fire and not only was the research destroyed as well as the sources, but I was the only researcher on the team to escape alive."

"How did it not get bought forward?" Feral asked in thought.

"I was a lot younger, and it wasn't in Mega Kat City. Besides, in some places, research into Katlantis is heavily frowned upon." Razor shrugged. "In the rush of, well, everything that followed, I hadn't really had time to look into continuing the research." he explained, putting down the material of Abby's research and looking at the chest.

"If you'd like, Doctor Simian I can compile what I remember and hand it over to you later." he offered.

"Please!" Was her enthusiastic reply. "But why would Katlantis research be frowned upon?"

"I'll get to work on it as soon as we get back. Let's just say, some consider it a waste of intellectual time to focus so much on a myth when we could have been vested in warfare. For now, let's see what we can piece together." he muttered, stepping closer. "Hmm... Well, this is obviously the lock." he told them, indicating the spiral with a crystal in the center.

"The rest looks like... some kind of lock system." The cinnamon head tilted in curiosity. He ran a claw over the lock, following a specific line until he reached an indent. "Let's see what- Yow!" He yelped as the chest loudly shocked the poor cinnamon tom and sent him crashing into the counter behind him.

"Razor!" They all cried in alarm, T -Bone and Callie rushing to his side.

"Ugh, don't touch the indent I suppose." he muttered.

"You alright sure shot?" T-Bone asked worriedly. Razor waved him off.

"I'll be fine." he groaned standing up fully with his partner and Callie's help. The sound of something cracking got their attention. They all looked back at the chest to see a seam appear and the lid to pop up slightly.

"It seems you opened the chest." Feral observed, wary of the chest now that it hadn't been as harmless as previously thought.

"Should we open it?" Callie asked.

"I think it's okay now to touch if anyone wants to lift the lid." Razor said, still flattening the fur that had stood on end due to the shock.

"I'll do it." Abby said, stepping forward and cautiously lifting the lid. On the inside was a beautiful white orb covered in carvings seemingly connected to different modules in the chest.

"I wonder what this is." Felina mused.

Abby shrugged. "One way to find out." she said, going to touch the orb. It buzzed but didn't hurt. Then a soft green glow lit up the orb with what looked like white scrolls and books appearing on the green. Then a voice sounded from it.

They didn't understand the noises coming out though. They looked at Razor whose head was tilted. "The... 'Empiricist of Katlantis'... is recognized... Access denied." He muttered.

"What of Katlantis?"Abby asked in shock.

"It's a type of biological identifier and lock! We knew Katlantians were advanced, but this is technology that we have in development now. To think it was present back then, only to disappear! I mean, the Dark Ages are after Katlantis's estimated time. Civilization rebuilt itself over eons!" Razor cried in amazement.

"But what could have resulted in the annihilation of a civilization to the point we had to rebuild it just to get back to where they were only now?" Callie asked.

"Don't you see, history is completely off! Every monumental discovery we attribute to any certain kat during and after the Dark Ages... They've most likely been made before!" Abby cried.

"This changes history." Felina said in awe.

"Not completely." T-Bone said. "I think it just... adds some extra layers to it. I mean, they still made these discoveries during the rebuilding of complete civilizations." he pointed out.

"The kat has a point." Feral agreed.

"Can we focus more on the fact that Doctor Simian is connected to the Katlantis?" Razor asked, running a claw over the right side of the chest.

"As fascinating as it is, I don't know much about the whole thing." Abby confessed, watching the smaller tom as he seemed to be tracing something on the side of the chest. "Did you find something else?" she asked intrigued.

"Not really... just a hunch..." Razor muttered before giving a grin when there was an audible click.

"What did you just do?" Felina asked. Their answer was a holographic keyboard appearing from the side. "What are you doing?" she asked.

"Looking for the translation setting. I'm not positive how accurate my own translation will be." Razor shrugged as he began to move his claws over strange letters like what was on the chest itself.

"And you think this thing is going to have a handy 'Translate to future languages' settings?" T-Bone asked with a scoff.

"Translation to Distant Commons complete." the orb rang out.

"Yes, T-Bone. I do." Razor gave his partner a snarky grin in return.

"Luck." T-Bone retorted, shaking his head in disbelief.

"So, what now?" Callie asked.

"Well, right now I'm trying to work through the index. It translated vocally, but everything is still written in Katlantian." Razor sighed.

"Well, just so you're aware Razor, unless there's an emergency that requires the Swat Kats' attention, I'll be keeping you hostage in my lab." Abby informed the cinnamon vigilante with a teasing, but very serious, smile. The others laughed.

"Don't worry, I'll keep you guys' company. Not sure how much help I'll be though." T-Bone reassured his partner who smiled.

"One thing we could try to figure out is what happens when someone not affiliated with Katlantis touches it... Any volunteers?" Abby asked with a teasing smile at the others.

"Sure. I'm curious." Felina replied.

"Felina, don't be so reckless. Or did you miss what happened to Razor?" Feral asked with a shake of his head.

"Well, no reason to give Razor multiple shocks in succession." Felina replied with a smile before reaching out and cautiously touching the orb. It flashed a light blue with a golden sword and shield on the light blue background.

"The 'Commander of the Forces' is recognized... Access denied." the voice chirped out, leaving all of them in silence.

"Two is just coincidence or something, right?" Callie asked, unsure.

"Well, 'Commander of the Forces' is a nice title." Felina replied, the atmosphere now electric with the curiosity and intrigue.

"Maybe we should see if Commander Feral is connected. For science." T-Bone joked.

"You joke, T-Bone, but it could be...Commander if you would touch the orb." Abby looked at the tom kat with a determined and curious look on her face. Seeing their expectant faces, Feral sighed and gave in.

"Very well. For science, hot shot." Feral sent T-Bone a disapproving look that the pilot tried to appear innocent in the face of. Reluctantly, Feral also touched the orb. It flashed a deep blue, a silver symbol of a sword and crown appearing on the deep blue background.

"The 'General of the Queen' is recognized... The Queen's command required to unlock the General's access." Silence, even Razor had stopped his browsing to stare at the orb dumbfounded.

"Okay, once is happenstance. Two is coincidence. Three times is a pattern. What is going on?" T-Bone asked. None of them had an answer at the moment.

"But hey, look at that uncle. You were the 'Queen's General'. That sounded like a pretty high rank." Felina told her uncle, who sent her a slight glare.

"I wonder about the title though. Apparently, as the Queen's General, he could access the orb with the queen's command... I have to wonder what secrets this orb holds." Callie mused excitedly.

"Sounds to me like the Queen was the one who originally invented this orb." Abby muttered. "If we could find the Queen, if she even exists here in the present, she could access the orb for us."

"If he exists here in the present." Razor corrected from the keyboard.

"I thought a Queen was she-kat though." Callie questioned.

"Apparently not in Katlantis. There aren't any names, but from the parts I could translate on here, the Queen was apparently a male. The King is also male, but it's stated that the King before the last King of Atlantis was female as well as her Queen at the time." Razor read off.

"Seems the Katlantians didn't believe in gender roles." Callie mused with approval.

"One of the ways modern civilizations are still behind the ancient ones." Razor and Abby replied in unison.

"But it is curious, isn't it? Three of the six of us already have a connection to Katlantis." Callie said with excitement.

"I'm sure it's just... a very strange coincidence, Deputy. The chances of all of us having a connection- while appearing likely- is very unlikely. If we search genealogy reports, we might find all three of them are related a distance back." Razor told the deputy mayor with an apologetic smile.

She huffed. "Way to puncture a she-kat's excitement Razor." she smiled, showing she wasn't actually upset at him though.

"Either way, we still don't have a cataloged reaction from the orb for someone unconnected to Katlantis yet." Abby sighed sadly.

"I'm sure it'll shock one of us at some point, don't worry." Razor reassured the she-kat who chuckled.

Before she could reply though, there was an explosion, sending everyone to the ground as the building shook and rumbled. As the smoke cleared and every kat picked themselves up, there stood five villainous kats on the other side of the room from the large hole now decorating the side of the museum.

Author's Note: And there is the first chapter. I hope you enjoyed.
