I only own the OCs that'll appear in the story.
Zane stared in shock at the scenario before him, not that anyone could discern shock from his face. 'How could this happen?' Zane thought. He had been controlling this duel with his usual calm and poise. He had taken Camula's life points down to 800 while he still had all of his points. He had thought he had this won. Especially since he wanted to end this as fast as he could.
Then, Camula activated a Spell card called Illusion Gate. She had played it to do two things. First, his Cyber Laser Dragon and Cyber Barrier Dragon were destroyed. And second, Camula was allowed to summon any monster Zane had used during their admittedly brief duel. The catch of this secondary effect was that a soul had to be used and, if she lost, the soul would be offered to the gate and the Sacred Beast. She chose to resurrect his Cyber End Dragon and link Syrus' soul to it and the gate, using his little brother as a shield which was what Zane feared ever since the vampire showed herself. If Zane defeated Camula, Syrus' soul would be lost, but if he didn't use his face down trap, Camula would win and he would lose his soul instead. Zane analyzed the situation and knew what he had to do.
"Do it." Syrus said softly, but was heard by everyone. "My soul is a small price to pay...to stop Camula."
"No." Zane said. "That's a price no one is paying..except for me." A little louder, he spoke. "I stand down." In short, he would do nothing to protect himself. He would allow himself to lose to save his brother.
Camula smiled hugely at his decision. "Cyber End Dragon, end this duel." She declared. His monster attacked and he went to one knee as his life points hit zero. He put a hand on his knee and the other on the floor. He heard the gasps of his friends and Syrus crying, "No!" as Camual's double disappear and he feltl to the ground.
"Darling, I've decided that you won't be a doll." Camula said as both Zane and Syrus lifted their heads to look at her. While Zane stared at her blandly, Syrus easily figured out what she meant, and he wasn't going to let that happen. He stood up and jumped on to Camula, keeping her from doing anything. His friends and brother stair at him in shock as Camula tried to get free. But Syrus was determined to keep that from happening.
"Zane! Get out of here! Camula wants to turn you into a vampire!" He said to his older brother.
Everyone else had shocked looks on their faces as Camula finally got Syrus off of her and pinned him down. "How right you are! And you will pay for interfering! I'll make it where you and your brother would never help each other again." She said as she pulled out a syringe filled with a red liquid with a label that said LB 217: Modified and stuck it into his arm. Camula continued to break free as she injected the liquid.
Syrus started to scream and withered in pain as he felt something happening to his body. He could barely hear his brother call out his name, or see Bastion and Chazz drag him away. The pain then became too much for Syrus and he passed out.
Zane ran towards where the room behind where Camula had stood. He knew that was where Syrus was as Camula had said so. But was he still under the effects of whatever that liquid Camula injected in him was or had Camula's defeat cured him? Zane entered the room and saw his little brother on the floor, still passed out. But he was covered in blue-silver fur, with tuffs on his cheeks, and darker blue-silver wolf ears with a matching tail that reached the heels of his feet. His mouth was slightly parted, showing sharp fangs inside. 'She turned him into a werewolf! And he's still a werewolf.' He thought sadly. Even as he put a hand on a shoulder and shook it. "Syrus. Sy, wake up. Come one, the duel's over. Wake up!"
Syrus' eyes snapped open, a dark metallic silver instead of the gray color they were before, and sat up as if he woke up from a nightmare. He painted as he looked around and then relaxed at seeing his older brother. "Camula lost?" He asked. He then saw his fur covered hand and stared at it in shock.
"Yeah, but we had hoped that by defeating her, you'd be human again." Zane said, guilt in his eyes. Syrus was like this because he was prevent Camula from turning Zane into a vampire.
Syrus stood up, reaching up and felt his wolf ears against his clawed fingers, he also looked behind him to see his wolf tail. Syrus hugged himself, wishing he was human again, especially when he accidentally dug his claws into his skin.
It was then that the castle began to crumble, causing everyone to flee the castle-like island and watch the structure vanish. The group stayed there for a time before they gradually left until only Zane and Syrus were left. "Sy," Zane said when Syrus sat down against a tree. "you're still my brother, despite what you are." He then sat down beside his little brother.
"I know, big bro." Syrus said as he gripped his head. Zane realized that something else was bothering his brother. He then pulled his little brother into a hug. Syrus returned the hug and silently cried into his older brother's shoulder. Zane rubbed comforting circles on Syrus' back. And slowly, Syrus started to feel better.
"Syrus."
The newly turned werewolf looked at Zane as they broke off the hug, his face full of worry, and Zane rarely showed his emotions. "Sy, what's wrong? You know you can tell me anything."
Syrus didn't speak for a bit before he decided to explain. "Zane, there's something wrong with me." He said as he gripped his head again, his eyes scrunched shut and his ears pressed against his hair. Tears started to appear in his eyes and he began to whimper. His tail instinctively wrapped around him.
Zane became more worried for his little brother. "What do you mean?" He asked as he placed a hand on his brother's shoulder. "These wolf-like thoughts keep appearing in my head! I want to howl, run, and curl up in a ball when I go to bed tonight. And I want to hunt for defenseless animals and eat them once I kill them!" Syrus said as he stood up and walked away from Zane.
"Zane, what if I can't stop these thoughts from controlling me? What if I end up hurting someone?" Syrus then broke into tears.
"Sy."
Sympathy appeared in Zane's eyes as he walked up to his younger brother. "You don't have to worry. You're too kind to hurt anyone in the way werewolves in horror stories. And there are some of those werewolf instincts you can act on. Like the ones to howl, run, and curl up into a ball as you sleep." Zane explained to Syrus, causing the younger Trusedale sibling to look at him.
"Really?" Syrus asked, giving his older brother a wolf-like head tilt.
Zane nodded his head. "Yes. As long as you act on harmless werewolf instincts, and those instincts only, you'll be fine." He said. Syrus smiled as he hugged Zane. "Thanks, big bro." He said as Zane returned the hug. The werewolf's tail wagged happily.
The two separated and returned to their respective dorms. When Syrus entered his room, he saw that both Jaden and Chumley were asleep. He got changed and climbed into bed. Curling up into a ball once he was under the covers, his chin resting on top of his hands.
