Chapter 622 Perfect Position

"

After calling to make sure her father was alone and his date didn't spend the night, Scarlett arrived at her father's house with a hot cinnamon roll and his favorite mocha cappuccino.

"I can't believe you calling me to find out if I had an overnight guest," Decker scolded his daughter. "You should know better than that."

Scarlett took a sip of her mocha frappuccino after finishing a bite of the cherry turnover she'd gotten for herself at the bakery.

"You may be my father, but you're also a man, so I know exactly how things work."

"You are so cynical."

"You raised me to be realistic. So, how did your date go? You didn't even tell me her name."

"Her name is Annie and we both had a great time. She's making me dinner next Saturday."

"Hmmm," Scarlett said thoughtfully as she ate her turnover. Her father hadn't been on a date in a couple of years. "I'll expect to meet her if it goes past a third date. I'm a good judge of character except when it comes to men."

"So your powers only work on half the population?"

"Smart aleck. There's been a bit of a development on the Buck Jeffers front."

"I knew you had some other motive besides wanting to know about my date. The cinnamon roll and coffee are to get on my good side. What's happened?"

"I just don't want to hear you tell me "I told you so". I know I deserve it though."

"Tell me."

"Jax told me this in confidence and he said I can tell you. He called me yesterday and asked me to get some clothes for the guys because their clothes were shredded in a crash when a white pick-up plowed through the guys."

"And the real story?"

"I knew the cover story wouldn't fool you."

"You gave it away when you mentioned Buck Jeffers."

"That was careless of me. Here's the true story Lucky Bucky lost control of his bike and plowed into the MC. With the exception of Piney and Sack everyone went down either trying to avoid hitting him or each other or because he hit them."

"How's Jax?"

"He's mostly OK. He tore open his leg and arm and got stitches and he's got some bruised ribs. One of the guys Tig went flying over the guardrail and has a concussion. Happy broke his arm and Clay had surgery and we're going to visit him today. Jax is going to text me and I'm going to take them over to the hospital. I'll have to pretend I care about the man who murdered my mother."

"You handled your psycho ex, you'll handle Clay. You shouldn't have to say much, just hang back and let the guys talk. What did they do to Jeffers?"

Scarlett sucked down some of her frappuccino. There was something about the caffeine, chocolate and sugar that usually lifter her spirits, but it wasn't working this morning.

"Jax said they beat him up and Sack kicked him down the hill that Tig rolled down. No word on his injuries. I think the MC is pretty pissed at him." Father and daughter laughed.

"I'm surprised he's still alive," Decker said.

"That may be temporary. I know if I'd said something to Jax about Jeffers really being Mickey Smith he wouldn't have been allowed on the run and no one would have gotten hurt, but I didn't know Jeffers was going on the run."

"Scarlett, this is good news for us. We can use this to begin Clay's destruction. He sponsored Jeffers. He vouched for him and he was vetted."

"Tig did that. He's responsible for security and running background checks. He must have known the truth and Clay warned him off or he's just incompetent."

"You can give Jax the proof that Clay lied about Jeffers' identity. If word got out that SAMCRO let a member of the Laredo chapter into their clubhouse, there would be hell to pay. Before it was a question of how much trouble Clay would be in when this got out, now it puts him into even more trouble because not only did Clay jeopardize the club's rep, he caused this accident by allowing Jeffers to ride with the club and he endangered members' lives. Before we had enough on Clay to get stripped of his president's patch. Now the club is angry that Jeffers almost killed them. They might be more willing to kick him out of the club."

"We get him kicked out and all we need next is to figure out a way to get him locked up," Scarlett said.

"This is all going to depend on Jax and how far he's willing to push this with Clay. I don't see how he stays president. The level of betrayal and the consequences to the club if this got out—it could cause them to lose their charter."

"That sounds extreme. SAMCRO is the mother charter," Scarlett protested.

"And that's exactly why it is so serious. The Laredo chapter has been banished out of existence. If it gets out that Jeffers was welcomed into the club, there will be hell to pay with the other charters. They stripped the Laredo chapter of their charter. I think they could do that to SAMCRO especially if it got out publicly."

"Jax will have to shut this down and keep it within the MC. You're right that SAMCRO could lose their charter if this got out. Jax will have to say that he got suspicious after the accident, investigated and discovered the truth. He has to keep my part and yours a secret."

"I'm sure he won't have a problem with that and he makes himself more of a hero. Tig's going to have a problem too."

"He'll lose his position at the least," Scarlett said. "I wonder if Clay could really end up getting kicked out."

"It's our best chance for it."

"As VP, the guys look to Jax for leadership. A lot will depend on what he wants, how persuasive he can be and how stirred up he can get the club to turn on Clay. At a minimum, he can't make it through this and stay president. With luck, he'll get stripped of his patch."

"I told you this was a good thing."

"I should never have doubted you. To minimize the blow back on me, I'm going to tell Jax that you were the one who discovered Jeffers' identity. I'm going to say we lived in Laredo when a lot of the trial was happening, he looked familiar but you couldn't place him and then after the accident, you did some checking and discovered the truth."

"Are you going to tell him about your mother?"

"Not yet. I'll mention living in Laredo and knowing about the chapter sex trafficking kids. Let's see how this shakes out with Clay before I make any further confessions."

"Fair enough, but you will have to tell him sooner than later."

Scarlett's phone alerted her that she had a text. She quickly read the text.

"That was Jax. I've got to go."

"Give it a couple of days and I'll give you the file on Jeffers to give to Jax."

"I'll tell him before the next church so he can bring it to the club. I'm worried that Jax might talk to Clay first and then Clay might go after Jax. He won't take it easy having his position threatened."

"And that's the advantage of him being injured. There's not much he can do."

"No, but he could get Tig to do his dirty work for him or he could pay someone. I'm sure he knows people."

"Don't worry about that. Wait and discuss that with Jax."

"Well, at least right now I'm on the good side of the guys. I arranged dinner last night and gave out awards for their injuries and this morning I arranged breakfast. Arranging is so much easier than cooking."

Scarlett left still unable to shake a feeling of fear. She was worried about facing Clay but she was more worried about what Clay would do if Jax told him about what he knew about Buck Jeffers before he took it to the table.
