APPEARANCE

Jayla is a tall tween girl with shoulder-length curly hair that she puts in a side parting when down, though she sometimes does her two-toned hair into different styles; Jayla has platinum blond and black coloured hair that she inherited as the firstborn heir of the House of Darkmore. Jayla has beautiful ocean blue eyes, smooth, flawless fair skin, and the House of Darkmore's insignia tattooed on her left inner wrist, which is magically imprinted upon birth.

Jayla, unfortunately, is often dressed by her mother in dresses styled in a Victorian gothic lolita-type style that she doesn't enjoy wearing. Jayla prefers simple clothes that muggles wear, taking some of her friend Hermione's spare clothes. As a first-year student at Hogwarts, she wears the school uniform nicely and neatly; she wears grey knee-high socks instead of white socks like the other girls.

PERSONALITY AND TRAITS

Jayla has an incredible brain as she has a photographic memory that allows her to recall things she's read and seen, though she struggles with remembering things she has heard. Jayla is somewhat cocky once she becomes comfortable with her surroundings, though she sometimes comes across as too cocky. Jayla uses her intellect for sly planning, having often helped her brother, Mason, with his pranks. Jayla can be highly stubborn at the best of times, having shown this when Jayla doesn't back down from any confrontation. Jayla is often seen as a calm and collected by her peers as she seems to be getting comfortable in Hogwarts, almost disguising herself.

MAGICAL ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Defence Against the Dark Arts: Jayla comes from a family that studies the Dark Arts to help those in need, though the girl only knows the basics and loves to read books on the subject, wishing one day to become the next professor.

Flying: Jayla is a gifted flyer; having learned along with her siblings since they could walk, Jayla plans to join the Quidditch team as a Chaser next year.

Zoolingualism: Jayla has the special and unique ability to talk to animals and understand what they are saying; this ability is unique to her as she inherited it from the Malfoy line and only shows in the females.

Charms: Jayla enjoys this class the most as she knows most of the basics from reading and finds the jinxes and charms she learns useful.

Potions: Due to her photographic memory, she remembers everything she's ever read, and Jayla enjoys making the potions she read about.

Transfiguration: Jayla finds the classes fascinating and plans to become an Animagus when she turns 16.

Herbology: Jayla doesn't like the dirt very much, but she does enjoy the class as she learns about all the new plants and even sneaks out some rose seeds for her garden at home.

Photographic Memory: Jayla can recall anything she has read, even from years ago; though she may be able to remember what Jayla has heard slightly, she struggles if it has been some time.

Quick Reader: Jayla can read 12,00 words per minute and spooks Ron occasionally as she reads in the Common Room.

TRIVIA

- Jayla loves reading her books in the dark, not using any light source. She likes reading books on Magical Creatures and Muggle fantasy books and doesn't like reading the end of books.

- Jayla enjoys playing Wizard and muggle games with friends, though Hermione and Harry teach Ron and Jayla how to play.

- Jayla finds the sound of rain soothing, sleeps better, and sometimes can't help but dance.

- Jayla enjoys cold weather, especially snow and Christmas.

- Playing Quidditch is Jayla's favourite sport, having learned how to play it since she could walk.

- Jayla's favourite candy is peppermint toads, though she likes to try her luck with Bertie's Bott's Every Flavour Beans.

- Jayla hates sweet-tasting foods apart from candy as she feels it's supposed to taste sweet.

- Jayla likes her teachers, though when it comes to Professor Snape, it seems to go off and on as he's mean to her friends most of the time.

- Jayla loves cats, especially her kitten, Hades.

- Jayla is obsessed with fire, but she hates it along with heat, hating hot summer weather.

- Jayla disagrees with Pure-blood purity beliefs, finding them ancient and prejudiced.

- Jayla doesn't like being on the receiving end of one of Mason's pranks, though she likes to help him sometimes as long as it's not on her.

- Jayla doesn't like Cornelius Fudge as Mother calls him a nitwit behind his back, and she finds him ridiculous.

A Quick or Furtive look or Glance, The First Appearance, as of dawn

In a quiet place in the country, a woman with black and blond hair walks through the dark corridor of her home, heading for her bedroom, when she hears floorboards squeaking behind him. The woman spins around to find her youngest son, standing in his pyjamas and with messy brown hair, much like his father. "Shouldn't you be in bed?" She questions, crouching to his height. "What's wrong?" She looks into his eyes, seeing the worry and anxiousness. "Are you nervous about tomorrow?" He nods, making her smile, trying to encourage the boy. "We all get nervous about our first day at Hogwarts, I remember mine," She leads him back to his room and tucks him into bed before sitting on the edge.

"Mum? Is big brother okay?" A petite brunette girl asks from the doorway, also in her pyjamas.

"Yes, he's fine. What are you doing up?" The mother asks her daughter, who fidgets under the woman's stare.

"I heard a noise under my bed," The girl replies, walking over, joining her brother in the bed, and tucking herself in.

"Is there a sleepover we weren't invited to?" A boy and girl ask, seeing the rest of their family, minus their father, on the bed.

"Or me?" The family looks shocked to see the busy patriarch standing behind the twins.

"Dad!" The children shout, running towards him and hugging their father.

"I was trying to ease our son about tomorrow," The mother explains, making the man smile at his kind and loving wife.

"I see. Well, I have just the remedy," The father picks up his youngest daughter, herding his children towards the bed as the mother.

"Engorgio," The woman mutters, making the bed larger, able to fit four children and two adults as they lie in bed with the parents on either side of the bed.

"Shall we begin?" The father questions, getting comfy.

"Yeah!" The kids nod and look at their father.

"Okay. Well, our story starts in the south of England, deep in the countryside…."

…stands a large, white stone and brick manor with fields of flowers surrounding the mansion, which creates a mist around the land, keeping Muggles away. Beyond the field of flowers on the outskirts of the acres of land stands a tall, stone, thick wall skirting around the ground and at the main entrance is an elegant black iron gate that keeps anything in or out. Between the fields of flowers and the stone walls looms a dark and sinister-looking dense forest that deters strangers from finding the manor in the centre, as inside the woods are many magical creatures protecting the people residing inside.

The proud and ancient Darkmore Family, a Wizarding family from America, lives in the manor. And no, you didn't read it wrong; I said, "Wizarding family" consists of Daniel Darkmore, the patriarch, who moved from America to England for his wife and to raise their family, though they still visit occasionally. The patriarch of the Darkmore Family, Daniel, is a severe man raised on strict and traditional household values. Though rigorous, they were kind and charitable, and he practises this even in his high-powered job within MACUSA.

The matriarch of the Darkmore Family, Sophia, once lived in a dark and cold home full of cruel methods and magic, making her flee to America to escape that life and meet her husband, vowing to raise her children differently. She is a kind and caring woman, regardless of her upbringing within the Malfoy Manor, where it was dark and ruthless, and she puts her family above everything, even her job at the Ministry.

The married couple has three children; their youngest is three-year-old Yazmin, a hearty, cheerful little girl with too much energy and a bubbly laugh, making her the heart of the Darkmore Family. The middle child is an eight-year-old boy named Mason, full of adventure and a little accident-prone, but he gets back up again regardless, along with pulling jokes on his sisters, making him the courage of the Darkmore Family. The oldest child, the firstborn, is Jayla, an eleven-year-old girl with a kind and caring heart like her mother with strict intelligence like her father, striving for her parents' approval as she works to become the Darkmore Heir.

On a warm summer morning, Daniel and Sophia Darkmore awake to a loud girlish scream coming from the hallway, then a boyish laugh. Knowing what happened, Sophia slowly gets up from their sizeable four-post bed. She walks out of the dark-themed room into the black wallpapered hallways full of picture frames and other items to see her only son, Mason, standing with green paint-covered hands and her youngest daughter, Yazmin, sitting on the floor crying with green handprints over her pink pyjamas. "Mason Jason Darkmore, what have you done to your baby sister?" Sophia demands, looking at her son, who stiffens at the sound of his mother's voice and turns, looking at her, avoiding eye contact.

"Mummy! He painted me!" Yazmin yells, getting up from the floor and running over, hugging the woman's leg and covering her in green paint. Daniel finally walks out of the bedroom into the hallway to see the mess his son caused.

"Mason, why did you paint Yazmin?" Daniel asks his son, looking down at the boy, seeing the guilt on his face before he lowers his head.

"I thought it would be funny." Mason answers in a small voice, knowing he is in trouble.

"You know the rules, no paint outside the playroom, and no painting your sisters." Sophia reminds her son as this had happened many times before.

"But, it was funny." He argues lightly but lowers his head again from the glares coming from his parents. In a split second, the eight-year-old makes a run for it. Unfortunately, Mason smacks into his older sister as she enters the hallway; his green hands make contact with her pyjama top, making her let out a small yelp as Mason falls flat on the floor.

"Mason, why!" Jayla exclaims, looking at her new and now ruined pyjama top. "This is brand new, mum bought this yesterday! Why did you have to ruin it!" She looks at her brother as he gets up from the floor, looking even guiltier than before as her parents and baby sister look at the exchange.

"Jayla, please help Yazmin get cleaned up and dressed. While your father will do the same with Mason, and I will make us breakfast. Also, again, Mason is banned from the playroom for two weeks." Sophia demands the family get to it; Yazmin races over to her older sister and takes her hand, pulling the older girl to the girls' bathroom as Daniel takes his son under the armpits and picks him up. The father takes him to the boy's bathroom, and Sophia walks calmly back into her room to prepare for the day.

Downstairs in the kitchen, Sophia, now dressed, uses her wand to make breakfast for her family with their loyal and friendly house elf, Flora, dressed in a purple dress. "Mistress Sophia, the dining room is all set. Is there anything else you wish to be done?" Flora asks her friend and boss, making the blond woman turns to look at the female house elf and smiles.

"That's all for now. Thank you Flora. You can relax for the morning." Sophia tells her, and the house-elf nods, leaving the kitchen as Daniel enters with water dripping down from his damp hair. "DId Mason have fun?" She teases him, going back to making the full English breakfast.

"He made more mess than anything but is now sitting in the dining room with the girls waiting," Daniel tells her, and she nods, using her wand to lift plates from the cabinet, placing the assortment of foods on each plate before they float out of the room.

In the dining room, the girls sit opposite their brother near the head on the table; Jayla helps tie Yazmin's hair back into a loose bun as they wait for their parents. "Sit still, Mason. You're already in trouble from earlier." The oldest child warns him as he messes around with his knife and fork on the antic table as the plates filled with food settle down on the white circular cloths placed in the centre of the children. Five smaller pieces of crockery settle in front of the occupied chairs, and their parents walk out of the kitchen into the room. Their father sits at the head of the table, and their mother sits next to Mason. "Thank you," The children say before the family tucks into their food, quietly eating till Flora rushes into the room with a vanilla envelope in hand, shaking as she skips over to Jayla.

"Mistress Jayla, this came for you." Flora informs her, handing her the letter, and the two-toned girl looks over the green writing that reads, Miss. J. Darkmore, The Fourth Room, Third Floor, Darkmore Manor, Bath, Somerset. It takes a while for Jayla to process the green writing before ripping the top off and taking out the letter, which consists of her Hogwarts letter. She skims over the fancy writing before looking at her family.

"I got in!" She squeals in excitement. "I'm going to Hogwarts!"

Meanwhile, further east in Surrey, Little Whinging on Privet Drive, a ten-year-old, untidy raven-haired boy stands in the living room of his home. He watches his overly large cousin Dudley Dursley in his posh-looking Smeltings school uniform, his aunt Petunia fussing over her son. At the same time, his uncle Vernon sits in his chair. "Will I have to wear that, too?" Harry asks his guardians, who look over at the skinny kid.

"What, you? Go to Smeltings?" Petunia looks at her scrawny nephew, who nods, questionable.

"Ha!" Vernon laughs, his wife joining him as they laugh at their nephew in amusement.

"Oh, don't be so stupid; you're going to the state school where you belong." She informs him, walking into the kitchen and fishing out a grey shirt from the boiler. "And this is what you're gonna be wearing the. I've finished dyeing it."

"But that's Dudley's old uniform. It'll fit me like bits of old Elephant skin," Harry argues, looking at the piece of clothing.

"It'll fit you well enough. Go get the post," Petunia orders him, and he slowly heads to the hallway. "Go!" He leaves the living room area to the hallway, finding a small pile of letters on the doormat. He picks up the mail, looking through them as he walks back to the living room, but stops seeing one with his name written in green ink, though what surprises him the most is it even has where he sleeps. Vernon and Dudley sit at the dining table, waiting for Petunia to fix breakfast. Harry walks into the kitchen where his guardians and cousin reside, handing over the other letters to his uncle and walks to his seat with his. Vernon reads the postcard, forgetting the bills on the table.

"Oh, Marge is ill! Are a funny whelk," Vernon informs his wife, and Dudley suddenly notices the skinny kid holding a letter and runs to grab it from him.

"Dad! Look! Harry's got a letter!" Dudley yells, handing over the envelope to his father.

"Hey, give it back! It's mine!" Harry snaps, trying to grab the letter back.

"Yours? Who'd be writing to you?" Vernon teases his nephew, but the family gathers to look at the address, fearing how strangers could know Harry's sleeping arrangements. He looks at the back of the letter to see the broken seal. The family look up at Harry, who gulps in fear of what could happen to him next.
