The Spartan of the Planet of the apes

Disclaimer: I do not in anyway shape or form own Halo or the Planet of the apes franchise. This is a non-profit fanwork written solely for the purpose of entertainment. This is in no way canon in any shape or form:

Responses to questions or statements:

-TK0421: Definitely, everyone is getting worried now. Six in particular which is a given because of his history.

-Caesar is wary for sure. Even more so when he finally gets to see him in action.

-Thank you for your thoughts. If I do decide to add Rosenda-A344 she'll most likely be in Fort Lewis or somewhere in Europe to explain her absence. Hope you enjoy this chapter.

-Jason Chandler: Thank you very much. Hope you liked this chapter.

-I'd be very interested in your Halo x Call of Duty story idea. If you ever do decide to write it, I'll be sure to check it out.

-rollynolly: Yeah, that's what I have in mind if I do decide to add her. That or maybe have her helping out in Fort Lewis.

: If I do decide to put her in the story, that's where she'll start to explain why she isn't with Six and Dot in

-stargate and anime for me: Thank you very much! Caesar definitely has a lot of questions given his prior experience of humanity, especially since he hasn't seen anything like Six outside of movies he watched alongside his human family.

-That is a good idea. I'll be sure to consider it.

-NewGuest123: Thank you for your thoughts. If I do decide to add her, I'll probably have her be somewhere in Europe or at Fort Lewis helping out what's left of the U.S Army. Hope you found this chapter to be satisfactory.

Now, with that out of the way, onto the story!

Chapter 7

"The Spartan's here!" = Hand signals

"/ Target's down. I say again, target is down. /" = Radio chatter

(Location: San Francisco, California)

A day had passed ever since the expedition into the Muir woods. Since, then the people have begun asking questions on the progress of their power issue.

While most people were content to let Dreyfus, Six and the rest of the colony leadership deal with the problem, there were a few people that were making inquiries such as how soon they would be able to get full power restored. Thankfully, it was only a handful of people asking which left time to consider alternate solutions to their problem.

Especially after what the group had found up there.

Dreyfus, with the help of Lex and Malcolm, placated those concerns and so far people just accepted the issue and left well enough alone. Which gave them time to figure out what to do with every option being considered.

Lex was currently working on a circuit breaker that helped to direct power through the tower. Working at the request of Dreyfus to see if they could use one of the fusion cells aboard the Prowler to power the colony. So far, it was still proving to be not an ideal option, as there were still too many variables to consider, they didn't have the manpower to make all the configurations that were needed, and they just didn't have the time needed.

Still, they had to try. If only to give a solution that didn't involve risking human lives to go back up there.

"Lex…" Dot asked her closest friend hesitantly. Interruption the near forty minutes of silence of which he was working silently.

"Yeah," He asked as he kept his focus glued on his task. Already dreading for he knew what she was going to ask him.

"It's about what happened yesterday…" she continued bashfully, but not backing down.

"I told you already, Dot. I'm fine." He said with a bit more forcefully than he intended.

"Please, don't lie to me, Six." The artificial intelligence pushed on. "I've never seen your vitals and brain waves go up like that before, not even during your final stand on Reach. Your heart rate was on par with someone having a panic attack. It hasn't even gone down by much since yesterday. It's still bother you, I can tell."

There were several seconds of awkward silence as the tension in the room became so thick it was suffocating.

"Lex… Please," the AI pleaded as she tried again to get him to reveal what happened with him yesterday, with her voice laced with concern and worry. "Just…talk to me about. Maybe it'll make you feel better." She offered.

The hyper-lethal of the Spartan-IIIs let out a quiet sigh after several minutes of tension filled and anxiety inducing silence. "It's not exactly a cheerful story."

"Doesn't matter," she insisted. "If it'll help you feel better. I'm all ears."

The super-soldier let out a heavy sigh as he closed the panel and sat down with his back against the wall. Thankfully, the two of them were alone so that they could talk freely. But more importantly, it was so that no one could see the seven-foot tall, armored, super-soldier talking about the most traumatic moment of his life.

At this moment, he wasn't an awe-inspiring warrior that many people saw him as. But instead, a deeply tired and broken man with decades of psychological trauma, hardship, and misery that he still hasn't fully digested. A man that was so beat down by everything that was thrown at him in life and looked seconds again from just collapsing from sheer exhaustion.

"It was back during the invasion of Jericho VIII." He began softly and tiredly. His right hand beginning to shake once more with him making no move to stop it. With his left hand reaching into a small pouch attached to his armor as he took out an old analog watch. Judging by its appearance it was made sometime in the late twenty-sixth century back in their home universe, though it was still in relatively good shape. It also did not appear to be functional as the arms did not move.

"It belonged to my dad." Lex revealed softly as he gaze upon the watch with a look of longing. "He gave to me on my sixth birthday…"

He paused for nearly a minute as he kept his gaze focused on the watch in hand. As if working up the courage to talk about something that was really traumatic for him.

As it turned out, it was.

"It was also the day the Covenant found us…"

(Flashback)

(Many years ago)

(Location: Jericho VIII)

"RUNNN!" Someone yelled as the entrance to the bunker blew open and a horde of Brutes came pouring into the shelter

A six-year old Lex held on to his father, Jacob, as tight as he could as he carried him down a nearby hallway away from where the Covenant squad had breached the underground bunker. His wife and older daughter following close behind him with similar looks of fear and terror as they booked it down a nearby corridor.

The door at the end of the hallway was burst down as several Brutes poured in, firing their Bruteshots at any human in site. His father quickly changed direction as he ran down a nearby hallway and found his way in a staircase. Taking two steps at a time he ran deeper into the bowels of the bunker along with about a dozen others until they finally reached the bottom level.

After several tense seconds of looking for a place to hide, they finally settled on a storage room that a few other dozen people had already taken shelter in. The terrified woman standing by the automatic door controls waiting until Lex, his father, and the last group of people had made it through as she locked the door and several others began using a blowtorch to weld the room shut.

A futile act of desperation, as there were species amongst the Covenant that were capable of bringing it down. And that was if they didn't have plasma grenades on hand to breach the door. Which they most likely did.

"It's okay, Lex. It's okay," His father said. Desperately trying to keep his son calm as he struggled to control his rapidly beating heart. With Lex suddenly realizing through tearful and scared eyes that his mother and older sister, Sarah and Jessica, were no longer right behind them as they were barely a minute ago.

"W-Where's mom and S-Sarah?" Lex asked fearfully as tears freely poured down his face.

"T-They're fine, son. They're fine.» His father quickly replied panted. Looking all over the room for an exit.

He made his way back to the room to a small, isolated corner that was hidden by several supply containers as he put his son down. Catching their breath.

Unfortunately, before anything else could be said, a loud banging sound at the far end of the room.

Right where they had just come from and where the entrance was.

An explosion could then be heard as screams and gunshots started echoing throughout the room.

Lex's father didn't waste time as he began working on a nearby vent cover. Swearing under his breath as he managed to pry it off. The sound of Brutes hollering coming closer with each passing moment.

"Lex, get in." He whispered as Lex began rushing before stopped right at the threshold as he realized something.

It was not big enough for his father too.

"Dad…" He cried as he turned to face his caregiver. Whom had now kneeled down and placed both hands on his shoulders

"I know, Lex." Jacob gently reassured. "But you have to."

"B-But…" Lex protested weakly. Not wanting to just hide while his father stayed out here to face the Covenant. Desperately thinking of some way for the both of them to make it out of this in one piece.

Unfortunately, that was not to be.

"Lex, please." Jacob pulled him in for a hug as the too of them held each other for as long and as tightly as they could for a couple of seconds before Jacob forced them apart as the screams and sounds of carnage only got closer.

"I love you, Lex. Never forget that." He said as tears began forming in his eyes as he began gently ushering Lex through the vent.

The six-year old boy followed his father's wishes as he reluctantly crawled into the vent. As much as he didn't want to leave his dad and would even preferred to die alongside there with him. He couldn't go against his father's wishes like that. As much as he wished to stay with his dad until the very end, he ultimately knew it was a futile gesture and that they best thing to do not just for him, but for the rest of his family was to survive.

As soon as he was inside, his dad placed the vent back on. With Lex seeing several containers moving in front of it which plunged him into total darkness. His only sense now being his hearing.

He could hear the sound of footsteps running off before the sound of a loud crash, akin to something heavy falling, filled the air followed by more gunshots.

Lex held in all his tears and desires to cry, as he dared not make a sound. No more shots could be heard firing as the only sounds that could not be heard were the ones originating from the Brutes, whom were now celebrating before the sounds of feasting could be heard.

Even for a child like Lex, he knew full well what was happening a few feet away from him. He had heard stories about what certain Covenant species like the Jackals, Grunts, and especially the Brutes did with the corpses of fallen humans right after they have been slain.

They had eaten them. Even the ones that were still alive. He had heard rumors about how on worlds recently taken by the Covenant, they would gather up all the human survivors they could find at gunpoint, take them aboard a Covenant ship or even just a recently demolished spot in rubble in the destroyed city they were in, and unleashed all the previously aforementioned species onto them. Tearing in the humans akin to how a pack of wolves could attack and eat a group of cornered deer.

As Lex laid there and listened to the Brutes feeding on the ones that they had just killed in cold blood, he futilely prayed that his dad and the rest of the family were alright despite already knowing otherwise, just not wanting to admit it to himself.

All while holding the present they had given to him several hours before. Back when he was enjoying his birthday.

From before all this horror began.

(Present day)

(Location: San Francisco, California)

"-I got picked up later by a Coast Guard unit sent in for search and rescue…after nearly a week of wandering the city alone…hiding from Covenant birds and ground patrols…" Lex trailed off as he finished recapping the most traumatic and painful moment of his entire life. "And that was the last time I saw them. Of my dad…"

Dot was extremely grateful she didn't have a physical body or projecting her holographic form. For if she did, he would have seen her bowling her eyes out for him. Wanting nothing more than to give the man that she had grown close to over the past several years a hug as she felt her entire being crushed by a never-ending wave of sadness While she didn't dare interrupt Lex's story with unnecessary words as it wouldn't have been helpful, she also wasn't quite sure she could hide the pain she was feeling if she did speak.

She couldn't let him see her like this. Not when he needed her the most in all the time that she had known him.

While she did know the general idea of what happened to the Spartan-IIIs assigned to NOBLE team, she was given permission since it was believed that it would allow better cohesion between her and the rest of the team, she wasn't exactly given the specifics on just what exactly happened to their families.

Hearing the man she cared most for than anything else explain just want exactly happened to him during the invasion of his home planet captured her entire being in a vice of sorrow of such proportions that she felt it suffocating her.

"When I saw that ape back there, it was like I was right back in that bunker." He continued with his voice started choking up. "Me hiding while my parents died right in front of me. Too scared to move. Too scared to help. Too scared to do anything. I could hear the saw howling and laughing as they tore them limb from limb. All while I…While I…" he couldn't finish his sentence as the wave of memories came flooding back with more power than a Covenant glassing. His hand shaking even more intensely than before as he stared off emptily at the final gift from his parents.

"Lex…" Dot said as gently as she could as she projected herself in full size in front of him. Kneeling as she tried to get her to look at him to no avail. Thanks to no small part in her not having a body. "It wasn't your fault."

He didn't seem to hear her as he continued speaking.

"Sometimes I still dream that I'm right there, back in that vent." He admitted as he stared at his father's watch. "Sometimes I feel like I died back there that day. A part of me actually wishes that I did."

"Lex, they died making sure that you live. They wouldn't want this. If you had died there, the package would never have made it to the Pillar of Autumn." The AI did her best to reassure him while giving him the warmest smile she could muster as she as if her heart was being crushed from the inside.

"Would it have mattered?" Lex scoffed as he lightly laughed with no real humor behind it. "We don't even know if it worked, Dot. If it was all worth it in the end. For all we know, the human race may already be extinct back home."

"Even if we couldn't save our humanity, we sure as hell are going to save this one. You said that, remember?" Dot said as she tried to rouse him. "Right?"

He didn't respond as he continued staring at the last memento he had left of his parents. A maelstrom of emotions and memories going through his head as he stared emptily at it with a hollow and dead look in his eyes.

Before his AI companion could say anything else, suddenly a loud air raid siren filled the air. With Six immediately springing into action as he instantly went into full combat mode, placing the watch back in his pocket and got up from where he was slump against the wall.

Grabbing his M4A1 SOPMOD Block II which was leaning by the door frame, Lex rushed out of the room as fast as his armored legs could carry him. Grabbing a full magazine from one of his pouches and inserting it into the rifle before thumbing the bolt release and placing a 40mm HEDP grenade into the M203 grenade launcher as he didn't have the weapon locked and loaded Nearly running into and startling many people as he rushed to the colony's entrance along with dozens of the colony's militia who were sporting their own weapons with many of them fumbling as they tried to insert their own magazines in their firearms as they moved into position, showing their lack of experience and practice compared to Lex who managed to finish it smoothly in just a little over six seconds. Though, there were a few others that managed to load their weapons much more smoothly than the rest, not as fast as the Spartan-III but enough to highlight those whom had more experience than others. Though you'll be hard pressed to find someone who didn't use a weapon or any kind of firearm nowadays, these ones looked like they had training from before the pandemic.

Rushing up the stairs leading to the top of the entrance. He eyes widened in shock along with many others as they were greeted to aa sight that none of them were expecting that day.

Standing a few meters away from the colony stood a sea of simians that stretched as far as the eye could see. Some of whom were carrying large spears as weapons and others riding on top of horses. The latter bringing up a gasp of shock from Dreyfus as he arrived quickly after and resting his hands on the steel bar in font of him.

The super-soldier could hear Malcolm coming up to stand besides both him and Dreyfus, who looked upon the ape horde in a mixture of confusion and anxiety, before he turned his head to face Malcolm.

He then said aloud exactly what all three of them were thinking.

"That's a hell of a lot more than eighty!"

Malcolm didn't response as both men turned back to the hundreds of apes that have gathered just outside on their doorstep

That's it for now. Hope you all found this chapter to be satisfactory and thank you all again for taking the time to check this story out. Meant to post this chapter earlier, but the wi-fi to my house went out for a bit which sucks.

This is my first time writing about a Spartan, or just a character in general, having an emotional moment and a traumatic flashback so I hope I did it good.

So, after thinking about it I'm most likely going to have this story just have Six and Dot in it. As I believe that adding another Spartan into the mix will make the humans too overpowered. Though, again I'm still thinking on it so this isn't concrete. Just more of what I'm leaning towards. If I ever finally do my second Planet of the Apes x Halo story idea set in the Kingdom time period, I'm more likely going to add her in alongside Six and Dot as humans are much more on the backfoot in that time frame.

So, that's it. Not really much else to say here. Take care, guys, and remember… stay frosty, gents.
