Chapter 15: Escape From The City

City Escape

Music: Escape From the City - Sonic Adventure 2

With Modern Sonic dealing with Perfect Chaos, Classic Sonic arrived through the portal from White Space into City Escape. As he emerged, he paused, taking in the new surroundings with wide eyes and a sense of adventure. The city stretched out before him, a labyrinth of towering buildings and winding streets, all vibrant with color but strangely lifeless. The blue skies and the warmth of the day hinted at the city's former hustle and bustle.

Standing atop a steep hill, Sonic had a clear view of the sprawling city below. The scene was reminiscent of what we know as San Francisco, with its iconic steep streets and vibrant urban landscape. From his vantage point, Sonic could see a cascade of colorful buildings lined up along the hilly streets, their windows reflecting the bright sunlight. The roads were dotted with trolley cars, and he could spot a silhouette of a large bridge in the distance, reminiscent of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Below, the winding streets of the city offered a thrilling path for Sonic to navigate. The streets were filled with ramps and obstacles, providing the perfect playground for his acrobatic skills and speed. The gentle breeze carried the scent of the ocean, adding to the city's charm. Despite the lifelessness, the city retained a sense of energy, as if it was waiting for Sonic to bring it back to life.

Sonic couldn't vocalise his awe, but his expression and body language spoke volumes. His eyes sparkled with excitement, and a confident grin spread across his face. He spotted a skateboard conveniently lying at the top of the steep hill, seemingly waiting for him. With a determined nod, he hopped on and launched himself down the hill, the board's wheels screeching against the pavement.

The descent was exhilarating. Sonic leaned into the curves, expertly maneuvering around obstacles, and hitting ramps to perform aerial tricks. His experience with extreme speeds and sharp turns allowed him to handle the steep inclines and sudden drops effortlessly. The wind whipped through his quills, and the city blurred around him in a kaleidoscope of colors.

As Sonic zoomed down the hill, he skillfully used ramps to soar over parked cars and other hazards, his agile form twisting and flipping in mid-air. Each successful trick and smooth landing added to his exhilaration, a wide grin plastered across his face. This was more than just a mission—it was a thrilling adventure, and Sonic was savoring every moment of it.

Finally, Sonic reached the bottom of the hill, he discarded his skateboard, ready for the next challenge. The urban environment at the base of the hill was a bustling downtown area, now eerily quiet and devoid of its usual activity. Tall buildings loomed overhead, casting long shadows on the streets below. The vibrant colors of the city were still present, but the absence of life gave it a hauntingly empty feeling. Cars were parked haphazardly, and shop signs hung crookedly, adding to the sense of abandonment.

Before Sonic could proceed further, his path was blocked by several G.U.N Beetles. These drones, designed for security and surveillance, hovered menacingly in front of him. The G.U.N Beetles looked like grey balls with blue outlines and armor on the front. On top of them, they had a sharp blue cap with a red-striped edge. Below this cap, reaching from just behind the edge of their front armor to far behind their back, was a horizontal yellow turbine disk with a red and blue-striped frame. Their "face" was equipped with a single yellow, red, and white lens. Unlike the Mono Beetle drones, the G.U.N Beetles had a thin red gun barrel on their bottom and box-shaped magazines on their lower rear.

Sonic's eyes narrowed as he assessed the situation. The drones hovered with an unsettling precision, their lenses focusing on him as if sizing up their target. The hum of their turbines filled the air, adding a tense atmosphere to the already silent cityscape. Sonic knew these drones were no pushovers—they were designed to be formidable obstacles.

With a determined nod, Sonic readied himself. He dashed forward, his speed blurring his form as he prepared to confront the drones. The G.U.N Beetles, sensing his movement, activated their defense protocols. Thin red gun barrels aimed at him, ready to fire. Sonic zigzagged, dodging the initial volley of energy blasts. His movements were fluid and precise, a testament to his agility and experience.

Sonic's strategy was clear—he needed to take down the drones quickly to clear his path. He leaped into the air, curling into a Spin Attack and targeting the closest G.U.N Beetle. The impact was swift and devastating, the drone's armor crumpling under the force. Sonic landed gracefully and immediately targeted the next drone, moving with relentless efficiency.

The G.U.N Beetles tried to regroup, their turbine disks spinning faster in a desperate attempt to stabilize. But Sonic was already upon them, a whirlwind of speed and power. He launched himself into another Spin Attack, taking down two more drones in quick succession. Each drone's fall was marked by a small explosion, adding to the chaos of the scene.

As the last of the G.U.N Beetles fell, Sonic took a moment to catch his breath. The urban gauntlet had begun, and he knew this was just the start. He looked ahead, the path through the city stretching out before him, filled with unknown dangers and challenges. With a determined grin, Sonic dashed forward, he had a job to do.

His speed carried him swiftly through the city streets, past tall buildings and empty intersections, until he found himself entering a large, open park. The park resembled San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, with its sprawling lawns, towering trees, and meandering pathways. The sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground. In the distance, Sonic could see a large pond with a picturesque bridge arching over it, similar to Stow Lake. Benches lined the pathways, and the remnants of what seemed to be a playground and picnic areas were visible, now eerily silent.

As Sonic sped through the park, his keen eyes caught sight of new adversaries emerging from the shadows. G.U.N Hunters, humanoid robots, advanced towards him. These robots had a top-heavy upper torso with blue, white, yellow, red, and gray armor. They had a flat head with no neck, a single red eye, and a drop-shaped blue cap covering it. Their chest plating was marked with the number "02" on the left side and G.U.N's symbol on the right. Their legs were equipped with large kneecaps, and their thick forearms ended in a hand on their left arm, while a large, red and black-barreled gun was mounted on their right arm.

Beside the G.U.N Hunters, NeoShadow Heartless emerged from the ground, their black, muscular bodies and glowing yellow eyes a stark contrast to the serene park surroundings. These Heartless moved with fluid agility, their clawed hands ready to strike.

Sonic wasted no time, charging at the nearest G.U.N Hunter with a Spin Attack. He launched himself into the air, curling into a ball and slamming into the robot's chest, causing it to stagger back. Sonic landed and immediately jumped again, taking down another G.U.N Hunter with precision.

The NeoShadow Heartless attempted to surround him, but Sonic's speed allowed him to dart between them, delivering quick, powerful Spin Attacks and Drop Dashes. He spun through the Heartless, their dark forms dissipating into wisps of shadowy smoke upon defeat. One of the G.U.N Hunters aimed its gun at Sonic, firing a barrage of energy blasts. Sonic leaped into the air, dodging the shots with ease, and landed a powerful Drop Dash attack on the robot, sending it crashing to the ground.

Sonic's movements were a blur as he took down enemy after enemy, his experience and agility keeping him one step ahead of the dangers. He used his Spin Dash to break through enemy lines and his Drop Dash to maintain speed and momentum, striking foes from above with devastating force. The park, once a place of tranquility, now served as a battleground where Sonic's skills were put to the test. The combination of G.U.N Hunters and NeoShadow Heartless made for a challenging fight, but Sonic's determination never wavered.

With the last of the enemies defeated, The Blue Blur continued through the park at speed, his eyes scanning for any signs of danger. The path through the park led him toward a quieter part of the city, where the buildings were shorter and the streets narrower. This area had an old-town charm, reminiscent of the historic neighborhoods in San Francisco. As Sonic raced through, he noticed a series of posters plastered on the walls of the buildings.

Sonic slowed down momentarily to get a closer look. Among the posters were wanted signs for an old face—Fang the Hunter. With his sneaky grin and iconic hat, the jerboa stared back at the hedgehog, with Sonic's eyes widening in surprise. Next to Fang's poster were missing posters for Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Polar Bear, adding a touch of nostalgia to this lifeless city.

The tranquility of the moment was short-lived, however, as Sonic sensed more enemies approaching. Shadow Heartless emerged from the alleyways, their glowing yellow eyes and sharp claws ready to attack. Alongside them, more G.U.N Beetles hovered into view, their turrets and lenses aimed at Sonic.

With a quick nod of determination, Sonic sprang into action. He started with a Spin Dash, launching himself at the nearest group of Shadow Heartless. The Heartless scattered as Sonic spun through them, dissolving into wisps of darkness. He transitioned smoothly into a Drop Dash, landing with a powerful impact that sent a shockwave through another cluster of Heartless.

The G.U.N Beetles fired their weapons, but Sonic's reflexes were too quick. He jumped and curled into a ball, taking down a Beetle with a precise Spin Attack. As he landed, he saw another wave of Beetles approaching. Sonic grinned, his confidence unwavering. He charged up another Spin Attack, jumping into the air and curling into a ball with incredible speed. The hedgehog smashed through the Beetles like they were nothing.

Sonic's movements were a blur of blue as he darted through the narrow streets, effortlessly dodging enemy fire and striking back with precision. He used the buildings to his advantage, bouncing off walls to gain higher ground and launching surprise attacks from above. The combination of Spin Dashes and Drop Dashes made him a formidable force against the Heartless and G.U.N Beetles.

As the last of the enemies were defeated, Sonic took a moment to catch his breath. The posters of Fang, Bean, and Bark still caught his eye, but he knew he couldn't linger. The city was still lifeless, and there were more hubs to save and friends to rescue. With a final glance at the nostalgic posters, Sonic dashed forward, ready for whatever came next.

The next destination was a bustling market area, now eerily silent and devoid of life. The colorful stalls and shops were abandoned, shadows casting long and foreboding shapes in the afternoon sun. The hedgehog darted between stalls, his speed leaving a trail of dust in his wake. As he rounded a corner, he suddenly heard a low, ominous rumble behind him.

The ground trembled slightly beneath his feet as the rumble grew louder, and when he glanced over his shoulder, Sonic's eyes widened in shock. The massive G.U.N Military Truck, now enveloped in an inky aura of darkness, bore down on him. The truck's engine roared like a beast, and its headlights shone with a malevolent yellow glow.

Sonic's heart pounded in his chest as the truck gained speed, crushing everything in its path. Heartless creatures scattered and were mercilessly run over, adding to the truck's terrifying aura. Debris flew into the air, and the pavement cracked under the truck's massive tires.

"Not good!" Sonic thought, his legs pumping faster.

He zipped through narrow alleys, his agility allowing him to take sharp turns that the cumbersome truck couldn't match. Sonic leaped over abandoned cars and fences, his Spin Dash propelling him forward with bursts of speed. Despite his efforts, the truck was relentless, smashing through obstacles as if they were made of paper.

Sonic's mind raced as he searched for a way to shake his pursuer. He spotted a steep incline ahead, leading up to a series of interconnected rooftops. Without hesitation, Sonic veered towards it, his shoes barely touching the ground as he launched himself up the slope. The truck's engine howled in frustration as it struggled to follow.

On the rooftops, Sonic found a brief respite, but he knew it wouldn't last. He could see the truck below, attempting to find another route to intercept him. Sonic sprinted across the rooftops, his path a blur of speed. He leapt between buildings, using his Spin Dash to smash through obstacles and clear larger gaps.

Just as Sonic thought he had gained enough distance, the truck reappeared, having found a way to parallel his route. It crashed through a nearby building, debris flying in all directions. Sonic's eyes darted around, searching for any advantage. He spotted a series of construction cranes ahead and dashed towards them.

With precise timing, Sonic leapt onto the arm of the first crane, using it to swing himself onto the next. The truck attempted to follow, its dark aura allowing it to leap short distances, but it couldn't match Sonic's agility. Sonic continued to swing and jump between cranes, his heart pounding as the truck fell further behind.

Finally, Sonic saw his chance. He aimed for a large water tower, using a Spin Dash to propel himself at an incredible speed. He collided with the tower's support beams, sending it toppling over. The massive structure crashed down, blocking the truck's path and sending a cloud of dust into the air.

Sonic landed on the other side, breathing heavily but victorious. The truck was trapped behind the wreckage, its engine still roaring in frustration. Sonic allowed himself a brief moment of triumph before dashing off once more, knowing that his mission was far from over.

The Blue Blur darted through the narrow streets, his speed making him a blur against the backdrop of the city. He leaped over barricades and slid under low-hanging signs, his eyes constantly scanning for the next obstacle. The G.U.N. Military Truck, now enveloped in a sinister aura of darkness, bore down on him relentlessly, its massive tires crushing everything in its path.

The chase took them through a series of alleyways, where Sonic used his Spin Dash to smash through crates and debris. He vaulted over fences and bounced off walls, gaining momentary distance from the truck. But the dark energy surrounding the vehicle seemed to make it more aggressive and faster than before.

As Sonic burst into a park, the truck followed, tearing through benches and plowing through Heartless that had appeared in its way. Sonic zigzagged through the park, his agile movements allowing him to dodge the truck's attempts to run him down. He used the terrain to his advantage, jumping off tree trunks and using his Spin Dash to launch himself over obstacles.

The truck was relentless, its engine roaring like an angry beast. Sonic could feel the vibrations of its massive frame getting closer, and he knew he had to come up with a plan fast. He spotted a construction site up ahead and made a beeline for it, hoping to find something he could use to his advantage.

The construction site was a maze of scaffolding and heavy machinery. Sonic darted through the site, leaping over gaps and using his speed to navigate the precarious structures. The truck followed, smashing through equipment and sending construction materials flying.

Sonic's quick thinking led him to a large crane with a wrecking ball attached. He dashed up the crane's arm, the truck hot on his heels. With a precise Spin Dash, Sonic severed the cable holding the wrecking ball in place. The massive ball swung down, crashing into the truck with a thunderous impact.

The truck was momentarily stunned, giving Sonic the chance to make his escape. He sprinted through the construction site, dodging falling debris and using his Drop Dash to gain extra speed. The truck recovered quickly, but Sonic had gained enough distance to put his plan into action.

Sonic led the truck through a narrow passage, the walls closing in on either side. The truck's massive frame barely fit through the tight space, its engine roaring louder in frustration. At the end of the passage, Sonic's keen eyes spotted a stack of explosive barrels precariously placed near a support column.

With a final burst of speed, Sonic launched himself into the air, performing a mid-air spin that propelled him over the barrels. He landed gracefully on the other side, skidding to a halt and turning just in time to see the truck hurtling towards the barrels. The truck's yellow headlights glared menacingly, and its dark aura seemed to pulse with fury.

The truck crashed into the barrels with a deafening explosion. The force of the blast was immense, sending fiery debris high into the air. Flames erupted, and a thick plume of smoke rose, shrouding the area in darkness. The ground shook from the impact, and pieces of wreckage flew in all directions.

Shielding his eyes from the bright flash, Sonic felt the heat of the explosion wash over him. As the smoke began to clear, he could see the truck's charred remains, its dark aura dissipating into the air. The once-menacing vehicle was now a smoking, twisted heap of metal, engulfed in flames.

With the immediate threat neutralised, Sonic allowed himself a moment of satisfaction. He had outsmarted the truck and put an end to its relentless chase. His eyes scanned the area and spotted the familiar goal sign close by, standing in what looked like a plaza near the construction site. The sign was a beacon of hope, signaling the end of this harrowing phase.

Sonic dashed towards the goal sign, his legs moving with renewed energy. As he reached the sign, the hedgehog rushed through it, making it swiftly spin. Sonic's speed caused it to change from Doctor Robotnik's face to his own.

Sonic looked around the plaza, taking in the beauty of it. Despite the danger, the thrill of that last chase had been exhilarating. In a weird way, he couldn't wait to take it on again one day. Suddenly, a dark corridor appeared, and Sonic's eyes furrowed with determination as he assumed a defensive stance. He knew this meant trouble.

Out of the darkness stepped Terios, with a sinister smirk on his face.

"Impressive," Terios remarked, his tone dripping with mock admiration. "You handled that runaway truck with surprising speed."

Sonic stayed focused, his gaze never wavering from the intruder.

Terios' expression darkened.

"I'm getting tired of telling you and your other variant to back off. Leave Naminé alone!" Terios shouted, his frustration evident.

Sonic's confusion was apparent, his eyes narrowing as he tried to piece together Terios' cryptic words.

"You don't get it, do you?" Terios continued, his voice growing more protective. "Naminé is under my protection, hedgehog! I won't let them take her, like they did!"

Sonic's brow furrowed even more. The pieces of the puzzle were still unclear to him. He knew that Naminé was important, but Terios' intense protectiveness and the mention of someone taking her added a layer of mystery he couldn't yet understand.

Seeing Sonic's confusion, Terios' expression softened slightly, but his resolve remained firm.

"Naminé is crucial to me, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Your meddling only puts her in more danger," Terios said, his voice laced with urgency and frustration.

The blue hedgehog looked at Terios with empathy, understanding the weight of his words. He could sense Terios' desperation to protect Naminé, but he also knew that something was terribly wrong.

"But your adventure stops here," Terios declared. "I've brought someone to stop you."

Terios stepped aside, revealing Fang the Hunter. Classic Sonic's eyes widened in surprise. Fang stood there, a dark aura swirling around him, his eyes glowing an eerie yellow. It was clear that he was no longer the same bounty hunter Sonic once knew.

Fang's once mischievous grin was replaced with a sinister sneer, and his posture exuded a menacing presence. His iconic popgun, now enhanced with dark energy, gleamed ominously in the dim light of the corridor. His cowboy hat cast a shadow over his eyes, adding to his menacing aura.

"Well, well, if it isn't my old pal Sonic," Fang drawled, his voice dripping with malevolence. "Guess you never could keep your nose out of trouble, could ya? Terios here promised me a nice bounty for taking you down. And I always collect."

Sonic's eyes narrowed, his fists clenching in response to Fang's taunt. He knew Fang's greed and mischievous nature, but seeing him under Terios's dark influence made the situation even more dire. The hedgehog tried to convey with his body language that Fang needed to fight the darkness. His eyes pleaded with his old foe, trying to remind him of who he truly was. But Fang's sinister chuckle shook Sonic's resolve, reminding him that this battle was inevitable.

"Oh, but it is me, Sonic," Fang said coldly, his eyes gleaming with malevolent energy. "I'm just... enhanced. Now, let's see if you can keep up."

Fang aimed his dark energy-infused popgun at Sonic, a wicked grin spreading across his face. Sonic's expression hardened, his resolve steeling as he prepared for the fight ahead. The plaza around them seemed to tense in anticipation, the once-lifeless city now the backdrop for a showdown between old rivals.

Sonic shifted into a defensive stance, his eyes locked on Fang. He knew he had to be quick and strategic to counter Fang's new dark powers.

Fang The Hunter

Battle Music: Fang The Sniper - Sonic Triple Trouble

Fang moved first, firing a barrage of dark energy shots from his popgun. Sonic dashed to the side, his quick reflexes allowing him to dodge the blasts with ease. He retaliated with a Spin Dash, aiming to close the distance between them. Fang sidestepped, firing another volley, but Sonic was ready, bouncing off a nearby wall to avoid the shots.

"Not bad, Sonic," Fang taunted, reloading his popgun quickly. "But you'll need more than speed to beat me!"

Sonic launched himself at Fang with a Spin Attack, aiming for a direct hit. Fang jumped back, barely avoiding the strike, and countered with a sweeping kick. Sonic ducked, then spun into a Drop Dash, catching Fang off guard and knocking him off balance. Several potted plants and benches in the plaza were knocked over, their contents spilling onto the ground.

Recovering quickly, Fang fired another round of dark energy, the projectiles whizzing past Sonic as he darted around the plaza. Sonic's movements were a blur, his speed making it difficult for Fang to land a hit. Using his momentum, Sonic leaped into the air, curling into a ball and striking down with a powerful Spin Dash. Fang barely managed to roll away, the impact of Sonic's attack leaving a small crater where he had stood.

"You're fast, but not fast enough!" Fang sneered, aiming his popgun for a closer shot.

Breathing heavily, Fang glared at Sonic, who responded with a determined grin. Sonic charged forward again, weaving through the shadows cast by the tall buildings around them. Fang aimed his popgun, but Sonic was too fast, closing the distance in an instant.

With a quick jump, Sonic delivered a spinning kick to Fang's midsection, sending him stumbling backward. Fang retaliated with a wild swing of his popgun, but Sonic ducked under it, springing up with a Spin Attack that struck Fang squarely in the chest. The force of the hit sent Fang flying into a nearby lamppost, which bent under the impact.

"Damn you, Sonic! This isn't over!" Fang growled, trying to steady himself.

Sonic's face was a mask of determination as he leapt back, readying himself for another assault. Fang aimed his popgun one last time, but Sonic was already on the move, using his Drop Dash to close the gap. With a final, powerful Spin Dash, Sonic crashed into Fang, sending him hurtling into a wall. The impact was so strong that Fang's hat flew off his head, landing comically at his feet as he slumped down, defeated.

The battle left the plaza in disarray: shattered flower pots, broken benches, and bent lampposts were scattered around, evidence of the fierce confrontation. Sonic landed gracefully, his confident smirk returning. He wagged his finger in his classic taunt, signaling his victory. Fang, groggy and disoriented, could only watch as Sonic stood tall.

Fang, slumped against the wall, began to dissolve into darkness. Sonic watched in shock as his foe disappeared into nothingness. His expression shifted from shock to anger as he turned to face Terios, who stood nearby, visibly displeased with the outcome.

"Idiotic bounty hunter," Terios muttered, his frustration evident. He met Sonic's defiant gaze and laughed, though the anger was clear in his eyes.

Classic Sonic gestured challengingly at Terios, indicating he was ready for a fight. Terios's laugh grew louder and more mocking.

"You don't want any of this, hedgehog," Terios sneered, his voice filled with egotistical arrogance. "You're not ready to face me. Consider this your final warning: back off, or next time, you won't be so lucky."

Sonic's eyes narrowed in determination, his stance unyielding. He shook his fist at Terios, but the villain only scoffed before vanishing into the shadows, his form dissipating into the darkness.

Classic Sonic shook his head, frustration bubbling within him. He turned his attention to the now silent and empty plaza, noticing the extensive damage caused by the battle. Bent lampposts, shattered flower pots, and broken benches lay scattered, evidence of the fierce conflict.

As he took in the scene, the hedgehog's serious expression turned to one of sheepish realisation.

"Oops," he thought, his eyes reflecting a mix of regret and acceptance of the chaos he had inadvertently caused.

Suddenly, the surroundings began to glow with a bright light. Sonic knew this meant he was being pulled back to White Space. He took a deep breath, hoping his efforts had been enough to rescue Rouge.
