This is a retelling of the Legend of Korra with a lot of changes. The first book will be completely rewritten, while the other three books will generally follow the plot of the show, albeit with some tweaks. Enjoy!

Note: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender or anything related to it.

"Do you really think tonight will be the night?" Tatkres asked.

Tenzin shrugged. "There's only one way to find out, and there's no better night to try than the solstice."

This had been an ongoing conversation between the airbending master and the young avatar for a few weeks. Tatkres recently finished his airbending training and was now learning about the avatar's spiritual power. Tenzin believed there was not better place to learn than the Spirit World, though the two had not had any luck crossing over yet.

"You are an unusual avatar for two reasons, Tatkres." Tenzin said. "First, you discovered you were the Avatar before you turned sixteen. Second, many avatars have difficulty learning the element that most differs from their personality. You did not have that issue." It was true. Tatkres was already an excellent waterbender by the time his avatarhood was discovered. Perhaps learning it for a thousand lifetimes before gave him an edge. The other elements came soon after, and he had little trouble mastering them as well.

Tatkres sighed. "So why haven't I been able to cross over?"

"It's not easy to cross over into the Spirit World," said Tenzin. "But don't worry, I've spent years training and studying everything there is to know about the Spirit World."

"But why tonight? What's so special about the solstice?" Tatkres whined. He was already upset that he missed the Glacier Spirits Festival. It was one of the few times a year where he could leave the White Lotus Compound and spend time with his family. He loved going on the rides with Tulok or playing games with Armarok. He enjoyed watching his sister Agnik take first place in the ice sculpture contest every year. When Agnik wasn't sculpting, she was painting; when she wasn't painting, she was writing stories or poetry. It seemed like Agnik was always creating some kind of art.

"On the solstice, the boundary between the physical world and the Spirit World become blurred." Tenzin explained. "Spirits can cross over to our world, and humans have an easier time crossing over as well. And since you're the bridge between the two worlds, it should be a piece of cake for you."

Tenzin convinced Tonraq to take Tatkres to the Avatar Temple for some training, under the condition that they take some White Lotus sentries with them. He explained that there were certain areas in the world that were "hot spots" of spiritual energy, such as the Avatar Temples and the Spirit Oasis at the North Pole. Tatkres asked his father to go to the Northern Water Tribe, but Tonraq refused, saying it was too dangerous, though the Avatar suspected there was more to his reasoning.

The moon was beginning to rise as the two reached the temple, its light casting a beautiful glow on the ice. The master and the pupil made their way to the center and began meditating.

Tatkres assumed the Lotus position as Tenzin lit incense. Soon the airbending master joined him. "Now just empty your mind and focus. Breathe in and out. I'll be right behind you." Tenzin assured.

Tatkres began to feel a small jolt that echoed throughout his body. He felt a rush of wind, as if he was plunging down a drop on a roller coaster. When he opened his eyes again, he was no longer in the Avatar Temple sitting across from Tenzin. He was alone in the Spirit World.

Tenzin taught him about various locations in the Spirit World, such as a misty prison and the layer of Koh, the Face Stealer. But Tatkres doesn't remember Tenzin teaching about this place. This was a barren area with jagged mountains jutting up into a stormy sky. There were a few streams that snaked around two glowing orbs, and a gnarled tree on a pile of rocks.

Tatkres began walking towards the orb north of the tree, as if something was luring him towards it when he heard a voice. "Touch it." the voice said.

He turned around, but no one was there. "You are the Avatar," the mysterious voice said, "You can harness great power if you touch that orb."

When he placed his hand on the orb, everything around him started shaking. He felt a surge of power unlike anything else and a white glow overtook his vision. Bursts of energy erupted from the orb, but he couldn't move. A single blast of energy surged upward to the sky, knocking Tatkres off his feet and on his back.

The world was beginning to go black when he heard the voice again. "I am coming." It laughed.

When Tatkres opened his eyes again, he was back in the Avatar Temple. He made a small flame just to be sure he was back in his body.

"Tatkres? What was it like? Tenzin asked, looking at him expectantly.

A wave of uneasiness crept up on him. And that voice. It was ominous, yet strangely familiar. Tatkres decided it was best not to tell anyone what happened until he could find out who that voice belonged to.

"It was fine." Tatkres meekly responded.

Tenzin raised his eyebrows. "Well, did you see anything interesting?"

Tatkres shook his head. "No. Nothing interesting."
